Favorite of May was the last book I read in May 😊 #readingbracket2023 @chasjjlee
I don‘t even know how to write a review that will do this absolutely brilliant book justice. Just a million wows and all of the stars.
So, somehow I managed to read EIGHT (well, almost) books on my May #bookspin list. I should‘ve done the #bookspinbingo board! Anyway, here‘s June‘s list!
@TheAromaofBooks
Read through chapter 16 and don‘t want to stop! Very much enjoying this one and so glad I decided to join #camplitsy 😊😊💚💚
A really amazing debut. Stories like this need to be told - about the many black and brown women who disappear and are never found, about society‘s morbid fascination with violent reality shows (lest we forget Jerry Springer 🤯), about crimes against women and the shame placed upon them for speaking their truth. I loved this book. Edited to add: this is laugh out loud funny at times!
I‘ve come across a lot of words lately that I‘d never heard of 😊 Here‘s another one where the definition isn‘t what I expected. #weirdwords
I agree with other reviewers that the beginning of this book didn‘t grab me at first, but THEN it all starts to come together and there are so many connections and emotions and WHEW. Not a book I‘ll soon forget.
I feel seen. And OLD 😂😳😩😅🤓👵
Well. That was a bit bonkers but hooked me from the start! Solid thriller but super disturbing at times. I find a good thriller is just what I need between the heavier reads.
#Weirdwords day! Came across this one in my current book. I can‘t figure out if calling someone “louche” is a good or bad thing though 😂 Probably not the best compliment 🤓
I enjoyed this very much. It‘s bleak at times, and if you believe in climate change (as I do, and don‘t particularly understand why anyone wouldn‘t 🤦♀️), you‘ll recognize that the events of this book could potentially happen if things don‘t change. It‘s scary, but also a beautiful story about resilience, survival, and how we go on after suffering such tremendous loss. Highly recommend!
I started this years ago, but it went the way of most nonfiction books I try to read in print (I lose interest). Decided to do the audio instead - who wouldn‘t love Cheryl Strayed reading to them? I admit the steady stream of relationship issues was a bit much 🤦♀️
But I came for the advice, and Cheryl delivered. Watch the series on Hulu btw, it‘s fab!
I just….. don‘t know how I felt about this. The “mystery” fell a bit flat for me, and I semi guessed what happened way before it was revealed. I liked her writing, but so much of the book involved these detailed, flowery descriptions of places (Saint X, NYC) and it seemed like the characters got a bit lost sometimes. I liked it, but with reservations 🤷♀️ #booked2023 #sunshinenoir @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae
I met a dog with a moue just this morning 😂 #weirdwords
This was a heavy read, but worth it. I know Octavia Butler wrote mainly sci-fi, but this to me felt like historical fiction (but with time travel). Painful to read at times, so accurate that it made my heart hurt. Written in 1979 but some eerie parallels to our current society and world. #booked2023 #afrofuturism #tbrtarot #pictureonspine
This might be one of the loveliest books I‘ve ever read. It‘s one I‘ll revisit 💚 The 11 year old liked it as well 😊
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
“Kind,” said the boy. ❤️❤️❤️
Well, every one of you who told me this was good and that I‘d love it? You were spot on and absolutely right! What a beautiful story ❤️ A curmudgeonly main character is always my jam, and I truly (mostly) loved all of the other characters. The ending was 😢😢😢 #titlesandtunes #islandvibes #bookspin (April), #doublespin (May)
May the 4th be with you, friends! This is the way 💚
Well, I loved this and it lived up to all of my expectations! Kickass women? Check. Older women kicking ass? Check check. Just awesome. As a sticker on a letter @TheBookHippie sent me recently said - “The Future is Female.” 👊🏻
This isn‘t really a weird word, but it is a LOVE-ly one 🥰 Cariad is the Welsh word for love, but can also mean sweetheart, dear, and lover. I‘ve come across it twice in the past week - in the book Bloodmarked and the TV show Call the Midwife. ❤️❤️❤️ #weirdwords
I don‘t think this has ever happened before 🙌🏻 A.J. was my #bookspin for April and now it‘s my #doublespin for May 😂 Plus, it‘s my #titlesandtunes book! I think the universe is telling me to read it pronto 👏🏻 Woot! @TheAromaofBooks @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen
Sorry I‘m late, friends! Monday 🤦♀️ And then I‘d somehow organized the tarot cards away and couldn‘t find them 😂 So without further ado, here is the card for May! Good luck! #tbrtarot #may
I‘ve been meaning to read this one for a couple of months, so it‘s perfect timing for #TitlesandTunes #May #IslandVibe 🏝️ 📕 🎶 And I absolutely adore this song, I sing along every time I hear it ❤️💚
Bloodmarked wins for April, but Hester is advancing! #readingbracket2023 @chasjjlee thanks again for the bracket! 💚
This second book in the Legendborn Cycle was even better than the first (and the first was excellent). I absolutely cannot WAIT for the third! #bookhangover #booked2023 #partofatrilogy #tbrtarot #onewordtitle
2nd #bookhaul from ThriftBooks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #booksareforbuying #andreading #ineedaseparatebankaccount 😂😂
You GUYS 😍😍😍 These are the most adorable tiny birds I‘ve ever seen! Here‘s an article about them:

This blew me away, but I wouldn‘t say that‘s a positive thing. Parallels to current society, what it means to be a “good mother,” the glaring differences between how the mothers and fathers were treated - all very unsettling, and a reminder that women are so often still considered “less than.” Sometimes downright scary to read, but I‘d still recommend it!
Slightly slow to start, but then it veered off into a completely unexpected direction and just, whoa. I immediately downloaded the second one. Phew! #booked2023 #titlestartswithvorw
My review of this book says it all - this is a story of redemption. Amadeo especially redeemed himself throughout the story. Fantastic book!! #themedthursday @dabbe
Newbie camper here!! Here are my six picks (this was hard 😂)! Looking forward to “camp” 💚💚 #CampLitsy23 #CampLitsy @BarbaraBB @Megabooks @squirrelbrain
Came across this in my last read and immediately looked it up! I didn‘t expect it to mean this - I was thinking something gross 😂
#weirdwords
I decided to read this today as my #inmemoriam pick for #booked2023. Beverly Cleary was one of my favorites as a kid, but I‘d never read the Ralph books! Loved the letter at the beginning written by Kate DiCamillo. Beverly Cleary was such a gem 💚💚
I don‘t know how Anthony Marra does it. Technically, these are short stories, and of course at first there isn‘t a connection, but THEN….. every story becomes interconnected, and it‘s just magical. It took me longer to read this as it‘s a book to savor. Gorgeous writing. #booked2023 #shortstorycollection
Thank you Litsy and all of the friends I‘ve made here 💚 Here‘s to another five years 😘 #Litsyversary
In no particular order, here we go!
1. The Bell Jar
2. Fresh Water for Flowers
3. Migrations
4. Saga (the compendium - because of course and also it could be a good weapon, that book is HEAVY 😂)
5. A Tale for the Time Being
6. All of the Gamache series by Louise Penny (that might not count but I‘m taking leeway)
7. The Storyteller (Dave Grohl)
8. Betty (for when you REALLY want to wallow)
9. The Passengers (great thriller)
Cont‘d….
They‘re Greek gods. NOBODY is trustworthy 😂😳🤨🫢 @dabbe #themedthursday
Not necessarily weird, but this BOTHERS me to no end 😂😂😂 #grammarnerd #spellingnerd #weirdwords
I‘M NOT CRYING, YOU‘RE CRYING 😭😭😭 This book just cracked open my cynical heart, Lord help us 😂😂😂 @AmyG okay yep, I loved it 🤯😂
Husband dumps wife, and unbeknownst to said wife, is making a clone (using her research) behind her back. Wife discovers clone, she and husband divorce. What could go wrong? 😳😳😳😂😂😂 #themedthursday @dabbe
Want to play? @vivastory @TheBookHippie @Meshell1313 @Bklover @Cazxxx @Librariana @peanutnine
Super cool word (despite sounding a bit like some sort of bacteria or fungi 😂), and the images in the pictured book are BEE-YOU-TI-FUL 😍😍😍
#weirdwords
One thousand percent LOVED this so much. It‘s YA but didn‘t feel YA - real life, tough issues that the characters had to deal with. And I just adore a found family story. The ending had me teary. Just a fantastic read 💚💚💚 #booked2023 #quietya #pantone2023 #persimmon
I‘m going to try harder to get at least my spin books read this month 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻#moodreader #bigtime @TheAromaofBooks
Almost forgot! This counts for the prompt #nonbinaryortrans for #booked2023. Here‘s a cool book club kit that gives historical context and where a lot of the names in the book came from 😊

Oh my gosh, I don‘t know if I can put into words how much I loved this book! I seem to have a witchy theme going recently and was so pleased to see the parallels between this and Hester.
“A witch is merely a woman who needs more than she has.” 🐦⬛ 🦉 🦅 #pantone2023 #tenderpeach #TBRtarot #March @Clwojick
