Oh my gosh, I don‘t know if I can put into words how much I loved this book! I seem to have a witchy theme going recently and was so pleased to see the parallels between this and Hester.
β€œA witch is merely a woman who needs more than she has.” πŸ¦β€β¬› πŸ¦‰ πŸ¦… #pantone2023 #tenderpeach #TBRtarot #March @Clwojick

CBee @LeeRHarry it was just SO good and I didn‘t want it to end! 3h
Cupcake12 I loved this too. 2h
CBee @Cupcake12 have you read Hester? It‘s fantastic and has a lot of the same β€œhistory” as this one. 2h

The Word is Murder | Anthony Horowitz

#tbrtarot @CBee One word title?? ?? One "word" in the title? ??? No? Oh OK.

(This is the picture I took to complain about this book not being in the condition advertised. On what planet is this "Like New"? The pages are yellow, the spine is cracked and the cover is peeling. I don't usually quibble about this sort of thing, but I feel they are taking the mickey a little here.)

TrishB I would complain too! I‘ve been lucky so far with my like new purchases! 10h
Bookwormjillk What the heck? It‘s ripped! 9h
AshleyHoss820 I think you were totally right to make them aware of this! I bought a book that was listed as β€œacceptable”from ThriftBooks. It was covered in mold or something crusty, and smelled like it had been in someone‘s basement for a long time. Sometimes, you gotta say, β€œnah…” ☺️ (edited) 9h

julesG I would complain too. That's far from "Like New" 9h
CBee Ha! That works if you want it to work. The rules aren‘t strict 😊 And that is not β€œlike new” omg 😳 9h
RaeLovesToRead @TrishB @Bookwormjillk @AshleyHoss820 @julesG @CBee You should see the copy of The Bluest Eye that they sent me... supposedly "good" condition, but it's been written all over! It's obviously someone's school copy complete with annotations ? Not impressed. 9h
AshleyHoss820 @RaeLovesToRead Ugh! I‘ve bought β€œacceptable” books, knowing that might happen. I‘m not picky about writing/highlighting in the books. Sometimes it‘s fun to see someone else‘s notes. (English major πŸ˜‚) but that is not β€œgood” condition! 😫😫 8h
CBee @RaeLovesToRead not cool! This is ThriftBooks? I wasn‘t impressed with my last couple purchases so haven‘t bought anything for a bit. 7h
RaeLovesToRead @AshleyHoss820 My favourite note so far: "depression, foreboding, imagery of sofa" ? I think whoever picked this particular parcel just grabbed any old shite. The other parcel was fine! 7h
RaeLovesToRead @CBee No, it wasn't, it was World of Books. I'm hoping they will sort it for me. Only one parcel of books was badly described. I accept that the margins between Good and Very Good can be subjective, but this is not "Like New"! This is "well thumbed"! And it's not got the cover I ordered either. I suspect a newby packed them. 7h
CBee @RaeLovesToRead I hope so! They better! 7h
AshleyHoss820 @RaeLovesToRead β€œimagery of sofa” sent me! 🀣🀣🀣 I love it! I bought Sir Gawain & the Green Knight used for my Arthurian Legends class. The girl before me wrote, β€œShe wants the D” in the margins. πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€ 6h
RaeLovesToRead @AshleyHoss820 OMG 🀣🀣🀣 6h
Clare-Dragonfly @AshleyHoss820 That is the best marginal note I‘ve ever heard πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ 4h
AshleyHoss820 @Clare-Dragonfly It stopped me dead and I was chortling in class! My professor got a kick out of it and was β€œya know what, fair.” 🀣🀣🀣 3h

Hope to get to both of these in April. I have planned to read Honor every month since January but it keeps getting bumped. #AuldLangSpine I tried to listen to Trespasses on audio and it didn‘t work for me so hoping print will be better. #WomensPrize

A Finder's Magic | Philippa Pearce

Pickpick

This is a little gem of a book. Magical and strange. It leaves a lot to the imagination and I think children need that; to not have everything explained to them, and to be left with lingering questions and a sense of enchantment & wonder. The illustrations are beautiful and the biographical note tells us that Pearce and the illustrator Helen Craig shared two grandsons, and that the main character is an anagram of the names of the grandsons πŸ’š

batsy Hooray #TBRTarot for once again making me dust off what's been on my shelf for some time and discovering that it's something definitely worth reading! @CBee 4d

I‘m using this as my #TBRTarot for February- A book with a yellow cover. I did actually read it back then and am only posting now. πŸ˜…

This is also LONG overdue for the #JaneandtheExcellentReadAlong ! 😳 I quite enjoyed it. Surely the obsequious Mr. Cooper is meant to have inspired Mr. Collins in P&P! πŸ˜† Answers to prompts are in the comments.

CBee Awesome! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ» 1w
Ruthiella 1. Stand out moment- Cassandra braining some one with a chamber pot. 2. Fav character - I really liked the well dressed but sharp Sir James Villiers, the magistrate. 3. N/A 4. Sir Harold‘s feelings for Lady Harriot surprised and disconcerted me. 5. I learned about still rooms and their very existence! 6. If I 100% knew a tart with brains 🀒 would give me courage, I‘d eat it. 7. I‘d pick Mr. Cooper‘s off-key hymns over Mrs. Austen complaints. (edited) 1w
Ruthiella 8. I‘d prefer a picnic in the gardens of Chatsworth over a dinner in my honor. 1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig I love Cassandra with a Chamberpot! We can picnic together in the gardens. 2d

I have not been great at posting this month, but I have been reading! This was the second book I read in March. This was also fulfills my β€œbook with a yellow cover” prompt for February‘s #TBRTarot. #MarchMadness #Netgalley Review in comments πŸ‘‡

MatchlessMarie After reading A Brush With Love which was a so-so read for me, I didn‘t have a lot of expectations for the sequel. I was interested to see how the author would approach adhd. I definitely enjoyed this book more and was impressed with the detail that Lizzie‘s adhd is explored compounded with her dysfunctional family dynamics. πŸ‘‡ (edited) 2w
MatchlessMarie Would have been 4/5 for me but the entire launch party/workplace nametag conflict towards the end of the book irritated me so much I dropped a star. It felt forced and like the author was trying to make it an inevitable outcome because of Lizzie‘s adhd which I felt was out of Lizzie‘s character adhd or not. It was just a ridiculous detour to ramp up the conflict and could have executed better or ditched altogether. πŸ‘‡ 2w
MatchlessMarie I disagree with those who say that Rake was trying to demonize his ex for having an abortion without telling him. That is a gigantic leap. Read it again he says he respected her decision and Lizzie had already made the choice to proceed with her pregnancy before she even told Rake. He wasn‘t pressuring her one way or another, he only wanted to be present every step of the way. πŸ‘‡

MatchlessMarie Whether it was realistic that he would upend his life and relocate across the globe to be near to the mother of his child was irrelevant to me and did not diminish my enjoyment of the story. This is fiction, after all. Overall I thought it was a solid story with some excellent education on adhd and I enjoyed the author‘s humor. Will probably read the next in the series.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
