Overall, I think I liked it but I had a lot of issues. Maybe because we didn‘t get Matt‘s point of view, but I didn‘t like him. He was a bit of a jerk and was using Kate a lot! She was constantly baking for his business for free coffee and no profits, doesn‘t seem to add up. And he had so much attitude towards her dating and getting hit on by men while he‘s dating and how an organized event is so dangerous, like relax. 👇🏻

Laughterhp I don‘t think he redeemed himself at the end. He barely had an apology. Just like sorry for being a jerk but I was jealous and in love with you. Puuulease! Maybe I would have felt different if we switched point of views. My favorite aspect of this book was all the activities they did. They all seemed like so much fun!! I want to do them all. 1d

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!!! I definitely agree that this book would have benefitted from Matt's POV. Although I do feel like at one point he mentioned something about paying her for baked goods... I can't remember for sure. 17h
Laughterhp @TheAromaofBooks Yeah, maybe he did and I don‘t remember. I just remember her saying she bakes for him for lifetime free coffee. 16h
StayCurious I've found I really need both characters POV to fully enjoy a book 15h
keys_on_fire Interesting thoughts! I‘m still reading it, and although i can see why it might help to know what Matt‘s thinking, I feel that would frustrate me more. When I as the reader know what each person is thinking and they still struggle to get together, I find myself yelling out loud at them! 🤣🤣 7h

Finished this one earlier today. It wasn‘t as much of a holiday read as I thought it was going to be. Though they did celebrate thanksgiving and had Christmas decorations. A lot of the relationship happened off screen. We don‘t meet the couple until 6 months of them spending time together. And there was so much pining. So annoying. Good thing it was short

Finished this one on audio yesterday. I was surprised with how much I liked this historical mystery. It‘s set after WWII. Lane moves to Canada after the war to get away from the memories. She was a operative for the British government.

She moves and then she finds a murdered man in the creek. She of course is suspected and has to work to clear her name.

I like the set up of the romance and the mystery itself. The audio was good too!

Overall, I liked this book. I got exhausted by the bombardment of pop culture references, which I already discussed in another post. It was weird to read a book with a witch main character that basically ignored Halloween. They focused more on thanksgiving oddly. Evie is a hex breaker and aspiring comic book artist. Mateo is a cursed werewolf who can‘t shift. I really loved Evie‘s family, so I do plan to continue this series. It‘s fun!

There is just a bit too much pop culture references and Star Wars talk in this book for me. I get that characters can be obsessed with Marvel and Star Wars, but it‘s getting to be too much.

She even mentions getting this delivered from Amazon.. maybe I haven‘t read enough contemporary books/romance to know if this is normal.

marleed I thrift a pile a books and too many references to pop culture in a book outdates a book quickly. Case in point, Lauren Weisberger summer ‘21 (tagged) book was the first time I read a book of hers the summer of its publishing - and I liked it. Typically I‘m a ‘meh‘ on her books because they are so dated by the time I get to them. (edited) 3w

This was the only actual book I brought with me on my vacation (which I‘m very proud of myself for)! I read 130 pages on the plane ride home and finished it last night. I wasn‘t sure where the story was going or how it was going to end. The dual timelines were a bit confusing because they were only a year off. So I did have to flip back and forth a bit to confirm. DGRachel I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this! My actual books read for this challenge and #readingasia2021 looks almost nothing like what I actually read. 1mo

Hey Litsy friends! I‘m going to Charlotte, NC soon and would love some recommendations! Bookish and not!

We are going to a football game on the Sunday and staying until Tuesday. But would love to have some suggestions!

I currently can‘t drink, so would prefer not to get breweries or wineries, etc.

Thanks in advance!

mrsmarch I just flew in and out of Charlotte right before Halloween, but I was on my way in and out of SW Virginia! I‘m sorry I don‘t have any great local recs for you. :( 1mo
wanderinglynn The Botanical Gardens are pretty. Although I don‘t know about this time of year. And there‘s Carowinds - https://www.carowinds.com 1mo
Laughterhp @wanderinglynn I did see Carowinds but I‘m way too big of a baby and don‘t like roller coasters! 1mo

Erinreadsthebooks NoDa is a neat, artsy part of town. 1mo
BookNAround I live in Charlotte. 😁 Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, the Whitewater Center (might be too cold to do anything there), Levine Museum of the New South or the Mint Museum (the latter also does/did book related tours), the architecture in the Fourth Ward, a boat tour on Lake Norman, NASCAR Hall of Fame, visit a bookstore with me (kidding!). 1mo
Aims42 I second @BookNAround on the boat tour of Lake Norman and visiting the NASCAR hall of fame 🙌🏻 I visited 4 years ago and those two adventures stick out most in my mind for fun 😁 Ooo and I don‘t know where you live, but if you don‘t have Bo‘Jangles, you need to visit one 🤤 You‘ll have a blast for the football game, the stadium is so cool being right downtown 1mo
peanutnine I live in the Charlotte area too! Definitely second @wanderinglynn and @BookNAround on the botanical gardens. The whitewater center might have started their ice skating, which is cool, but I'm not sure on exact dates. And depending on when you are getting into town, you could check out the Renfaire! It's in Huntersville on Sat/Sun 1mo
Laughterhp @BookNAround @peanutnine @Aims42 I love all these recommendations! Just realized we won‘t be able to do a ton because we get in Saturday at 6pm, then have the game Sunday at 1. And nothing seems to be open on Mondays 😖! The botanical garden looks so awesome! 1mo
Laughterhp @BookNAround have you been to the paper skyscraper or I‘ve read it in books bookstores? The skyscraper is like 1/2 mile away from where we are staying. 1mo
BookNAround I adore Paperskyscraper. To be fair, it has some books but it‘s really a gift store with unusual stuff. Park Road Books or Main Street Books in Davidson are the two biggest independent bookstores in Charlotte. I don‘t know I‘ve Read It in Books. Is that the pop-up bookstore? If so, it‘s pretty new. 1mo
Laughterhp @BookNAround I have no idea! I just googled book stores in Charlotte lol and then looked to see what was closest. Good to know about paper skyscraper! 1mo

Bailedbailed

Only read 35 pages of this book but I was already pretty bored. I then looked up on goodreads to remind myself what the book was about and then saw @wanderinglynn ‘s review and decided to bail.

I‘m not sure how this book got on my radar, but I‘m glad I just borrowed it from the library.

It‘s too bad because I really like the title and cover.

Blh87 I bailed on this one, too. It was ludicrous and boring. 1mo
wanderinglynn Glad my review saved you some pain. 😉 1mo

I‘m so glad I finally got to read this one! It was a weird one on audio because all of the different names. I also feel like I‘m probably missing like a map or family tree or something. I will definitely continue this series!

This was a refreshing romance. It‘s been a while since I‘ve read just a straight historical romance. This was fun and fluffy. It was also a clean romance, which I don‘t always love. Marianne was a bit too shy and modest for my taste but because it was a clean romance and I didn‘t have an issue with it. I also really liked Philip. I also thought the ending was a bit odd.

TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed this one but also thought the ending got a little out of control haha 1mo

Apparently I forgot to post my November #BookSpin list 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

The end of October was clearly a mess. The tagged book is my #BookSpin

Death on the Nile is my #DoubleSpin

ozma.of.oz Oh I really enjoyed Death on the Nile! I hope you do too! 1mo

My final points for #Scarathlon2021 #TeamHendrix

3,646 points for week 4

Total overall points 14,180

I‘ve read more books in October than I ever have in a month! Some really good ones and others not so good.

I had so much fun and now need to take a long bookish break.

Linsy Nice! 1mo
StayCurious Great job! Glad you got a lot of reading done! 1mo
