So we tried a LOT of new things for #FoodAndLit #Colombia

It was a little stressful to cook since we had never deep fried before! 🤣 But we cooked plantain (patacones), fried a whole fish, and made rice with coconut milk and cola (a little burnt but still tasty). Timings were tricky!

So here is the finished product, the coastal platter “Bandeja Costena”

Catsandbooks Wow! Impressive! 2d
Texreader I‘m so impressed! I won‘t order a whole fish at a restaurant so I can guarantee I‘ll never cook one. Wow!! How was it? 2d

Bookworm54 @Texreader it was really tasty! I just had to not look at the head… 😂 2d

3✨Set in Columbia featuring the timeline of Pablo Escobar, the drug lord. Our POVs are a little girl who watches the news, but doesn‘t fully understand. Our second is a teenager that gets catch in the crossfire. I was not born/too young when all of this was originally happening, but I remember hearing about it. I cannot imagine how scary this would have been to live through. I felt for the characters as they tried to live normal lives. #FoodandLit

Roary47 First book down in #20in4 🙌😊💛 3d

#FOODANDLIT COLOMBIA

I‘ve found people either love or loathe the writing of this author. I‘ve always enjoyed his writing something about it just draws me in.

BiblioLitten I LOVE his writing. My first foray into magical realism 3d
TheBookHippie @BiblioLitten It is a genre I typically do not read but his writing is just so lovely. 3d

Even though, this is a somber book about the violence of Colombia, I LOLed at "as confused as Adam on Mother's Day." I'm so blessed to live near so many great restaurants. Tropical Grill in Spruce Pine served me with grilled chorizo sausage and fried bread. So incredibly good. #FoodandLit @Texreader @Catsandbooks

A hostage-taking in a German hotel leads back to #Colombia in the 80ties.

Even though it was the 9th part of a series, I had no trouble getting into the story. Buchholz is more interested in character development, than writing an action packed story. I liked the style how she describes her characters, even though sometimes the story could've been a little faster.

I‘d been uncertain about trying books by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but now that I‘ve started I‘m apparently going to work my way right through his books on the #1001books list. I‘m starting my third one this year for this month‘s #Colombia book for #FoodAndLit.

This morning we put some hay in the barn and this afternoon we‘ll be baling more. I‘m listening to the #audiobook while working on odd jobs in between. #BooksOnTheFarm

BarbaraBB I loved this one! 1w
Suet624 That‘s tough work! And a lovely barn. 💕 1w
Graywacke I love Márquez. Cool picture. I‘m enjoying the sequence of pictures you post on your farm. 1w

janeycanuck I need to try this one again - I made it maybe 15 pages in before I gave up but Love in the Time of Cholera was completely enchanting for me. 7d
Daisey @BarbaraBB @janeycanuck I‘ve only just started, but so far I‘m enjoying the story of a family better than I did Love in the Time of Cholera. 7d
Daisey @Suet624 @Graywacke Thanks! I love changing up my posts in the summer to include farm photos. 7d
Graywacke @janeycanuck @Daisey they‘re very different books, this and LitToC. 7d
mabell Love it! 7d
BarbaraBB This one is my favorite, I loved it way more than Cholera but I was very young when I read both. 6d
Daisey @mabell Thanks! I‘m really enjoying sharing farm photos this summer and listening to my book whenever I have a few moments. 4d

Our family finally got around to opening gifts for my birthday (last Friday) and husband‘s Father‘s Day. My mom @Doll8455 sewed all the table toppers (isn‘t she brilliant?), the fam got me the books and Dickens puzzle, my in-laws in England gave me the necklace, and I gave myself the bee puzzle. It was a gorgeous birthday and I couldn‘t wait to share it with you all! PS I just realized I can read the books for #Japan #foodandlit!

LiteraryinLawrence Aww, so glad you enjoyed your special day! 1w
Texreader @LiteraryinLawrence Thank you! It‘s so awesome that the family knows me well enough to get me books and puzzles! 1w
