I LOVED this. Shorter chapters, so many stories, a lot of characters to keep track of, but it worked well for me and I just love how the author connected it all. Can‘t wait to discuss! #literarycrew #pantone2023 #vanillacream #fieryred @Clwojick @Librarybelle
Following Adinaβs lead and posting a weird word with an animal theme today! I mean, who doesnβt love a capybara π Also, do yourself a favor and look up βweird animal namesβ - itβs hilarious π About capybaras: https://animals.sandiegozoo.org/animals/capybara #weirdwords
Not my favorite of hers but still great and kept me guessing! Thanks to whoever put this on SG for the #booked2023 prompt! Just happened to have it on my shelf π #wronglyincarcerated @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae
I loved this! Will absolutely be a 2023 favorite. I despised The Scarlet Letter and MUCH prefer this π#booked2023 #moderntakeonaclassic

Meh, this was okay. I finished it only because I wanted to see what happened, but goodness it dragged! I wouldn‘t really call it a thriller, as the βthrillsβ didn‘t even happen until maybe the last fourth of the book. #doublespin for March though π€·ββοΈπ
How is this her debut novel?? Her writing is poetic, powerful, incredible. Not an easy book to read, but a worthwhile one. She takes horrible situations and injects light into them somehow. You think you can‘t possibly keep reading for the heartbreak, but you do, because the light is still there β₯οΈ @AmyG @TrishB this one rocked me!
I have to admit, I wasn‘t sure what to expect, but this was excellent. I cried more than once, had some jaw-dropping moments (particularly when he talks about the way his family has treated him, it‘s baffling). I applaud his bravery and strength, and I‘m so glad he found happiness, after so many years of despair. Oh, and the epilogue almost did me in π’π #teamharry
So when you say βShhhhβ¦.. I‘m reading,β you‘re using a sibilant word. Also like a snake hissssssing π I‘ve come across this word a handful of times recently so, figured I‘d use it for today‘s #weirdword!

I wish she‘d found a way to stay in the world π The Bell Jar is a book I‘ve read at least four times - it resonated with me for so many reasons, in so many ways. #independentwomen @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen
Dame Cicely Saunders was a nurse, social worker, and physician. Most importantly, she was the founder of the modern hospice movement. As a former hospice nurse, I‘m so grateful to her for her vision and for making it a reality. It was about pain control, yes, but also focused on the whole person - all of the facets that make up who we are. Hospice isn‘t a death sentence; instead, it‘s about quality of life. #independentwomen
You know when you hear about folks who leave their high stakes jobs and start a bakery, or climb Mount Everest, etc.? That‘s what this is likeβ¦.. except the main character is an orc, and supporting characters are a succubus, a hob, a rattkin (who bakes!), plus elves, fey, gnomes (oh my π). I didn‘t know if I‘d like it - turns out I LOVED IT. #booked2023 #gaslampfantasy
Y‘all, I apologize. I have a gross cold and just plumb forgot to post the March #TBRtarot card! Here it is ππ My book is The Once and Future Witches (picked from the bookshelf closest to me which means I can FINALLY read it!). Have fun!!
Here‘s my late post for #weirdwordswednesday! I‘ve usually heard or read this word describing something negative (you know, a βharbingerβ of doom, etc), but it is also used in a positive way (see sentence in definition).

Once again, A Tale for the Time Being wins β₯οΈβ₯οΈ #readingbracket2023 @chasjjlee
Could not stop reading this one once I started. How could anyone, much less a 12 year old boy, wade through such tragedy and immense grief?
βWhat happened is baked into your bones, Edward. It lives under your skin. It‘s not going away. It‘s part of you and will be part of you for every moment until you die. What you‘ve been working on, since the first time I met you, is learning to live with that.β Beautiful book β₯οΈ
Not a 100% perfect match, but it‘ll do π #pantone2023 #beetrootpurple @Clwojick
This was EXCELLENT!! It‘s about five women who are brought together by an unfortunate situation (don‘t want to spoil anything), but it‘s really about how men in power (the patriarchy) abuse their positions and end up free and clear, while the women wronged end up smeared and disgraced. The author actually had a similar experience running for student council in high school - part of why she wrote this. Can‘t rec enough ππ»ππ»ππ»
Since it‘s Mardi Gras time, and since some Mardi Gras parties could be consideredβ¦..hmm, raucous? I saw on a website that this word is another way to describe βunrestrained merrymakingβ π So, another word from Greek (Dionysus) and Roman (Bacchus) mythology (my fave, obvi). And a very cool word at that! #weirdwords
I think the review from @Soubhiville said it best for me - I had this unsettling feeling almost the entire time I was reading this. It‘s good, for sure, but creepy, and thought provoking (which can lead to some scary thoughts!). Ultimately I enjoyed it, but justβ¦.holy s*** π³π³π³ @Cinfhen would this work for #aboutreproductiverights? I‘ll leave my reasoning in a spoiler comment π

#Roll100 for March! I read one rolled book for February and I think that‘s what I‘ll aim for each month π @PuddleJumper
Welp, this was kind of bonkers but I ended up loving it π Seemed a bit βtrope-yβ at first, and okay, maybe the locked room mystery is a bit overdoneβ¦. but for a debut novel, it worked. This fits #booked2023 #newin2023 AND #pantone2023 #andeantoucan πππ
I enjoyed this, but it did take a bit to get into it π€·ββοΈ Super thought-provoking with some parallels to the current atmosphere we‘re living in - but ultimately, a book about hope and how it can prevail despite unforeseen circumstances. This was my #TBRtarot for February (book with a yellow cover), and it fits #pantone2023 #oystermushroom π @Clwojick
1. Fredrik Backman, Louise Erdrich, Simone St. James, and really a lot who‘ve passed on - Maya Angelou, Sylvia Plath, Mary Oliver β₯οΈ
2. Just finished True Biz and am now reading The Measure for #TBRtarot
2. Strings, discrimination, multiple POVs, thought-provoking

Happy National Hippo Day! π¦ π¦π¦ @TheBookHippie
I enjoyed this! I will say that I wish the ending weren‘t so abrupt - not that all endings have to be tidy, but I definitely wanted more resolution? Big props to the author for teaching me loads about deaf culture - so much I didn‘t know. Now to find a #pantone2023 match π€
βBeing motherless was different than being fatherless. It was primal, the archetype for human suffering, like losing the North Star.β
This just put into words how it feels - to lose both parents is awful, but there is just something slightly harder about being motherless. Like you‘ve lost your anchor π
I‘ve always loved this word. For my Greek mythology geeks, remember Charybdis? She was a maelstrom and along with Scylla the sea monster, sent many a sailor and ship to the deadly depths π
@Soubhiville you like this word too, I‘m guessing ππ #weirdwords

This was like a long episode of Law and Order: SVU (a show that I love). A great thriller with a twist I didn‘t see coming, plus a (sadly) much needed spotlight placed on sexual assault victims and how they are treated (often with the alleged perpetrator not getting justice) by the public, by the justice system. It‘s a total disgrace. Got a decent #pantone2023 match, I think (#blueperennial), plus this is a #roll100 pick!

I just loved this. I appreciated the way it wasn‘t all wrapped up in a happy bow by the end of the book - anyone dealing with this kind of trauma and abuse isn‘t going to suddenly be βokay.β Just another reminder that everyone and everything is a work in progress and it‘s the journey that matters (not the destination) β₯οΈ #booked2023 #propernounintitle
I admit the beginning was confusing, but once I got a bit further in, I was hooked! My favorite parts are the letters from Red to Blue and vice versa - the enemies to lovers trope in a whole different and unique way. I strive to have someone write to me the way they write to each other (swoon). My only small complaint - I would‘ve liked a little more backstory on how the war started, more origin story. The beautiful writing is just π₯
