“Is it such an awful thing to want retribution against people who have wronged you?”
This book was a little boring at first. But once it got going wow was it crazy and full of the typical twists and turns that Freida McFadden is known for.
I was mildly entertained with this book then 2/3 in a fun twist happens. Now I was invested because I had to find out if there was going to be another twist. I‘m glad I kept reading 🤣😜
Im so mindfucked over this book! The twist and turns are crazy and I didn‘t expect it! This poor guy Blake is just being tormented by his own fiancé
Blake Porter is riding high, until he's not. Fired abruptly from his job as a VP of marketing and unable to make the mortgage payments on the new brownstone he shares with his fiancée, he's desperate to make ends meet.
Enter Whitney. Beautiful, charming, down-to-earth, and looking for a room to rent. She's exactly what Blake's looking for. Or is she?Because something isn't quite right.
My tenant also eats more than her share of food. And she doesn't pay a dime or do any chores! Honestly, so inconsiderate. But also, I love her endlessly.
This was good, but not great. (The Boyfriend and Never Lie are still my favorites)
I did enjoy reading it. Because it was a great story full of horrifying moments. 🍎

7-27-25: My 50th finished book of 2025! For the majority of this book we are learning everything from the perspective of Blake. High powered executive, engaged to beautiful Krista, living in a brownstone on the Upper West Side. His life is perfect, until it isn‘t. As things start to fall apart, Blake and Krista decide to bring a tenant into their home to make some extra money. Little by little, Blake‘s entire world will collapse. Is it the tenant?
Typical Freida McFadden! I equate her books to your favorite drink…with a twist of course 🙂

June 29, 2025 With a snap of a finger, I am DONE. Too fast if I am going to be honest. I would give this 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Decided to not spoil the ending because if you like to read Freida McFadden, then I'll let you read this one yourself. Thank me later!
June 29, 2025 Uh oh. Krista (old name was Whitney Cross in high school), is going to get revenge after finding out that Blake has been lying about loving her. Blake has been cheating on her all this time with Stacie, his boss's assistant. Krista is going to teach both of them a lesson; when i say BOTH i mean Blake and the girl who stole her identity, Amanda Lenhart. Amanda use to be a biologist but is now working as a waitress at the restaurant.
June 29, 2025 continued... Blake was in a desperate mood to get down to business and try to get rid of Whitney. First he visited her house in Telmont and a sixty year old woman opened the door. This was her mom. She sat down from him and started talking about how Whitney use to torment her boyfriend bc he cheated on her. Then, she pushed him off the roof and made it look like a suicide. Does this have smth to do with why she is targeting Blake?
June 29, 2025 Part II. Chapter 45 page 244. Almost to the end. What is happening now? Well, Blake has been feeling like he got manipulated and framed by Whitney for the things that she did. Blake wanted to find out more about Whitney Cross by going to Telmont, New Jersey to figure out where she grew up and where she use to live. So he called the high school and asked for her high school transcript. Next he traveled in rental car to the house...
June 28, 2025 Reached Chapter 36, page 201. The police have come to his place and ask him about his neighbor. His neighbor was said to have been murderer with an object: a clock that was on the mantel. Who killed him? Could it have bee Whitney OR Krista?? I feel like Whitney acts oblivious to things and only specify when she wants to.
June 28, 2025 continued... What next? What is she capable of? Does she hate Blake? According to the lunch she had with Krista, she doesnt hate Blake. So is Blake so sleep deprived and psychopathic that he is imagining everything and making scenarios up? Well let us find out 😉
June 28, 2025 I am on Chapter 25, page 136. So far, Whitney Cross has done some damage to the engaged couple who live in brownstone: Krista and Blake. One of the first things that Blake blames her for is putting limonene into the laundry, which is causing him to itch BAD. Another thing that she did was place some apples on the top shelf where they can't even be reached and let fruit flies multiply causing a mess. Now she has killed Goldy.
June 28, 2025 continued... Whitney, from Blake's perespective looked attractive and sexy. However, right after Blake and Krista agreed to have her move in, Blake felt like he made a mistake. A voice in the back of his mind was saying otherwise. Like was this a bad idea?! Time will tell. THIS PART is foreshadowing that something bad will happen: either to Krista or Whitney.
June 28, 2025 continued... Blake advertoses the extra room that they have available and a woman named Elizabeth and Whitney are both interested in checking out the place. Elizabeth, aka Quillizabeth, looks around but points out to Krista that Blake is going to kill her. Really? Is she out of her mind? Or does she know smth that Krista doesnt know? She didnt seem interested bc the room was too small. The other person was Whitney, a 30 year old girl
June 28, 2025 Blake Porter and his fianceé Krista live in a brownstone. Blake Porter worked as a Vice President in Marketing at this big business. Krista works at a laundry mat. But Wayne, his boss fired him for sharing information from the company. Now that Blake is fired from his job, he is unemployed and needs a new job. They dont have a lot of money and they could become potentially homeless if Blake doesnt do smth soon.
June 28, 2025 Probably (likely) late to buying this book but better later than never!!! Im have been a fan of her books since I bought my first one by her. I can't wait to read this one. For the first time, she wrote in the author's note: freidamcfadden.com. "This is a resource that can be used by readers who need to protect their mental health as well as for adults whose kids are reading my books." I guess that was a nice touch ?
Today is hot and very humid outside with a little rain mixed in and I am sitting inside a very chilly hospital waiting for my boyfriend to come out of surgery. Finished the book I was reading and am now starting this one. #17of2025
Blake Porter, recently unemployed and living with his fiancée Krista, rents out a room to a seemingly perfect tenant, Whitney—but is she really perfect. Blake‘s life begins to unravel amid strange noises, gaslighting, and growing paranoia. Unfortunately he has an enemy and I for one did not see this one coming! There are some laugh out loud moments and of course but I couldn‘t put this down- needing to know what the heck was going on!
Blake is kind of a dink. He loses his job for selling secrets and has a wandering eye. He and his fiancée Krista need to take on a tenant so they don‘t lose their brownstone with Blake out of work. Things go south as soon as Whitney moves in and chaos ensues. The narration was really solid and easy to listen to. The pacing was as fast as it always is with McFadden. The twist was just meh.
Last week I read two books by Freida McFadden: The Tenant and The Crash. The Tenant was a decent thriller but quite predictable. Blake had it all—a VP title, a fiancée, and a new home—until he lost his job. To pay the bills, they rent out a room, and that‘s when the suspense begins. The plot had potential, but it didn‘t really surprise me. A good read
overall, just not one of her best.🎧
This was the most I've enjoyed a McFadden novel. I keep reading her books, hoping to understand why so many people like them. Honestly, the endorsement from Riley Sager didn't hurt in getting me to give this one a try.
The Tenant was an enjoyable read. I didn't like the main character, so it was enjoyable reading about his misfortunes. There were a few good twists in there, too. Overall, it's a pretty good read.
another awesome plot twist ending #audiophile #readinggoal #readinglife
I‘ve learned with Freida McFadden‘s books that you just need to put all sense of reality and likelihood aside and just enjoy the crazy ride 😂. This one is particularly crazy with a host of unlikable characters behaving badly and making each other‘s lives miserable (or murderous). There were a few twists I didn‘t see coming so I‘m counting this one as a win! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another 2 star book from this author for me. This gave me Housemaid vibes. I guessed the ending pretty quick, and absolutely no one was likable in this book. The main character would gawk at women, then in the next breath say how great of a guy he was and such a good catch. Gimme a break 🙄. I understand he wasn't supposed to be likable, but it got annoying fast. It is a fast read, but the twists and characters are lacking. 2/5
5 Stars • The Tenant by Freida McFadden is a tense psychological thriller about Blake Porter, a marketing VP, who finds his life unraveling after being fired for allegedly selling company secrets. Desperate, he agrees to take in a tenant, Whitney Cross, to help with mortgage payments. However, strange occurrences start to plague Blake, and he suspects Whitney is sabotaging his life and relationship with his fiancée, Krista.
4.25⭐
•A couple takes on a roommate—what could go wrong? It turns out, plenty could go wrong, especially when Freida is in charge of the storytelling. This turned out to be quite fun, even though it wasn‘t always believable…like could all of “that” really be pulled off?
•Will Damron & Christine Lakin were wonderful, especially considering I don‘t usually like the narrators that she has for her books.
Unlike other McFadden books I‘ve read, this had a slower pace. It delved deeply into MC‘s character development, which kept me engaged throughout the story. While I anticipated the twists, they didn‘t unfold as quickly as I had expected, but the wait was worth it. The twists were well-crafted and made for a fantastic read.

⭐️⭐️
McFadden is so inconsistent. I‘ve very much enjoyed a few of her books, but this felt like a (bad) very famous thriller rip off. Just like The Crash reeked of a (bad) Misery rip off. Take a breath, take some time, and write something thoughtful. And for the love, say “brownstone” one more time. Lord. I‘m done with her books for a while.
This was really good! I didn't see the twist coming. As usual, every single character was unlikable, but it was gripping from the start.
I sped through Freida‘s new audiobook in a couple of days. This one kept me guessing as to which directions the twists were going to take and I was not disappointed. Her books are great to get sucked into. Perfect escapism. 4.5⭐️

I knew a twist was coming but still didn‘t guess it! This one started out a little silly but in true Freida fashion, it all comes together at the end and makes total, twisty sense😳
I‘m so glad to see that Freida is back after that crash of The Crash.. I flew through this one and loved it! A twisty, humorous, easy read like the Freida I know and love.
