Best way I can describe my current reading experience 😊

Paginetta Nice! What app is it? 🙂 3mo
Hooked_on_books I can‘t tell if that‘s a good or bad thing! 😂 3mo
Librariana @Paginetta - The screenshot is from Goodreads 😊 It's an app where you can make lists of books you have read, are reading, or plan to read. You can also track your progress with page numbers and share notes as you read. I then pasted that photograph to a collage on the PicCollage app. Hope this helps! 3mo

Librariana @Hooked_on_books - I don't know either, Holly! Lol! 🤣 I'm having flashbacks of very vague memories of watching The Royal Tenenbaums or The Grand Budapest Hotel... and I feel like that is what's happening as I'm reading this... like someone is narrating a movie to me. 3mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - This book has been on my TBR for SO long and when I saw you would be reading it, I was like "I should give that a try, too!" I thought of bailing somewhere in the beginning because I wasn't sure I'd like the style/format, but it's grown on me a touch. I'm not... deeply invested, just very curious. 3mo
Hooked_on_books I feel like this book had a lot of potential, but for me it was just too disjointed and didn‘t work in the end. If I hadn‘t read it as part of a buddy read, I would have bailed early. 3mo
Paginetta @Librariana Thanks, I know goodreads but which I use little, just to keep the list of books read in a year, but I didn't know about Pincollage. I really like the final effect! You have been helpful! Thanks again! 🙂 3mo

Hoping to make more significant progress with the tagged book before moving on to Dear Edward or possibly The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World.

Whenever I listen to Non-fiction titles, I try to find Fiction counterparts whose subject is complimentary and can be read in tandem with or immediately after completing an audiobook.

Does anyone else do this?

DivineDiana That‘s a great idea! 4mo
ravenlee Not for audiobooks, but I homeschool my fourth-grade daughter, and I try to find novels that align with our history studies because it helps keep the facts alive and fresh. It gets her move invested in what we‘re studying. 4mo

Finished Maia Kobabe's memoir and I'm grateful for eir willingness and vulnerability in sharing so many aspects of eir life and eir gender journey. A deeply personal account with many questions and reflections on identity and sexuality.

A little late in the day with my #bookreport, but I wanted to squeeze in a bit more reading in a day filled with house chores and a fair amount of TV viewing.

We are living it... breathing life back into it... letting it dance outside ourselves... I love the idea of this!

🎶 Second verse, same as the first 🎶

This week's forecast is the same as last week's (two audiobooks, four print books) with the hope that I might be able to start the graphic novels on the right once I finish Gender Queer.

Also hoping to make a little bit more progress on the book of poetry as that deserves to be savored and pondered, not rushed.

Still working on all my titles from last week's forecast. I seem to be listening to my audiobooks whenever I can squeeze in little morsels of time and the same goes for my print reading.

The other three print books not listed (Call Us What We Carry, Gender Queer, and The History of Love) are in various stages of completion, but I'm pleased with my overall progress.

Librariana @Cinfhen - Cindy!! 😊😊😊 My sincere apologies for not replying sooner! Thank you so much for your sweet, thoughtful post 🥰💜 I've been trying hard to get back into a better reading rhythm. I feel like after my little car accident back in October, I fell into a slump and got very preoccupied with car repairs and life in general. Things are certainly better and I hope they're lovely for you as well! 4mo
Cinfhen Oh no! I had no idea you were involved in a car accident 😢I‘m glad you‘re well - reading slumps are understandable…just take care 😘😘 4mo
Librariana @Cinfhen - Oh, no worries, Cindy... I know I'm not a very active member of the Litsy community, so I can understand my post about it was quite a while back, but I do hope to improve on my participation here with time. I was the 2nd car hit as a result of another accident, but I wasn't at fault and am A-OK! 😊 Thank you for your concern! 4mo

I'm trying to find my way back to reading. To being excited about and completely absorbed by a book, but so much continues to happen in the world and it seems to be all consuming... emotionally draining. I'm trying to still be a part of the world, but it hurts. I'm trying to find comfort and solace in books... maybe even a little distraction from the atrocities and the doom scrolling while still being aware. I'm trying to find a balance.

Kenyazero I‘m glad you‘re looking for balance right now. That‘s important to work toward and I hope you settle into feeling a little more balance soon ❤️ 4mo
Hooked_on_books Balance is so important. It‘s easy to get mired in the awful things in the world. But there have always been awful things. And there have also always been wonderful things. Sometimes turning away from the awful things you have no control over and focusing on the wonderful things for a while instead can be really healthy. I hope you find your way, Ana. 4mo

Dearest @Hooked_on_books
Thank you for thinking of yours truly when it came time for #Top21of21 (hope I got the hashbrown right!) I'm flattered ☺ 💜

Mine has not been an illustrious reading year (more strange than solid!) and I know that lately I've been distracted by anxiety stemming from my car accident back in October AND... Animal Crossing. But I digress!

Without further ado, here for your entertainment are my Top... 16! Lol!

Aims42 Great books!! I have ‘Pride and Premeditation‘ on my nightstand to read next, I‘ve heard good things 😁 (edited) 6mo
CoffeeNBooks The House in the Cerulean Sea and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue were my absolute favorites of this year! @Aims42- I really, really liked Pride and Premeditation! 6mo
Hooked_on_books Oh no, I‘m so sorry to hear about the wreck! That‘s terrible. I hope you are either all mended up or in a better place now than then. And this is a great list! There are some books on here that I really enjoyed. Thanks for sharing your picks! 🥰 6mo
See All 13 Comments
Chelsea.Poole Lovely list! I want to read the newest collection of poems from Gorman and Laundry Love — I had forgotten about that one 🧺 6mo
Librariana @Aims42 - Oh, Amy, I do hope you enjoy it! And I have a feeling you might if you're a fan of YA, modern takes/retellings of classics, cozy mysteries, and Pride & Prejudice (I'm a big fan of *specifically* modern retellings of P&P 😁) I thought it was well-written and charming 😊 Can't wait to hear what you think of it! 6mo
Librariana @CoffeeNBooks - Harper, I am *totally* with you! Confession tho... and I do feel awful about this... but I'm only 3/4 ers of the way with "Invisible Life" ??? I know... I know. But based on how I've felt about it while reading it, I just know it'll be a fave! "House in the Cerulean Sea" was just lovely and cozy and magical and ? 6mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - (1 of 2) I'm in a slightly better place now, Holly, although my anxiety behind the wheel has still heightened significantly. I don't know what your experiences were like while you were in the PNW, but Spokane gets a fair bit of snow and right now, the roads have been like ice rinks - slippy and slidey! And as grateful as I am for the rental, everyone just knows how their car handles those type of road conditions better, y'know? 6mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - (2 of 2) I'm glad my list of picks had a few titles you enjoyed 😊 I'm just embarrassed that of the 50 or so titles I've read this year, I couldn't come up with a slightly longer list! Definitely motivates me about my reading selections (and dedication!) moving forward 😁😊💜 6mo
Librariana @Chelsea.Poole - Chelsea, 1) love that basket emoji that I am just now discovering thanks to you! 🧺 So cute! And 2) I have to confess that I just recently picked up Amanda Gorman's collection of poetry and have only read a few of its poems, but I just love her and think she's brilliant and so I had to include her on this list. It's my plan this weekend and in the days to come to continue enjoying her book 💜📚 Hope you do, too! 6mo
Aims42 @Librariana @CoffeeNBooks YAY 🥳 I‘m hoping to get to it next week, I‘m off from work 🙌🏻 6mo
MaleficentBookDragon Severance is in my list too. 6mo
Hooked_on_books You have no need to be embarrassed! I think 16 titles is a great top picks list. I read far more than any human probably should, so it‘s easier to come up with 21, since I have more to work with. But we should all read what we want in whatever quantity we want and that‘s that! 6mo
Hooked_on_books For me in the PNW, I lived in places with little snow and ice, but I learned to drive in Colorado, which of course has it every year. I hear you about road conditions—I would definitely want to be in a known vehicle. And your anxiety is completely understandable. I‘d be surprised if you weren‘t anxious! I feel badly for you for the tough winter. Hopefully you have some calmer weather that‘s a little easier on your psyche. 6mo

On Monday morning, I was on my way to work... but the Universe had other plans.

A large SUV and truck had gotten into a collision as I was driving past and my poor little carrito 🚗 was the collateral damage. When the 1st vehicle hit the 2nd, the 2nd was pushed on to traffic, slamming into the rear of my car. All I saw was a flash of black and then *impact*!

(Cont'd ⬇️)

Librariana (1 of 2) It's an odd feeling when the world seems to slow down and you just know something awful is about to happen. Not how I planned to start my day...

I'm physically somewhat alright, but shaken (I'm sure plenty of folks feel that way after an accident. Hyper-focused driving and all!) My body is letting me know in small ways that not everything is peachy, so a visit to the doctor for a check up is already scheduled and on the horizon.

Librariana Oh, absolutely @TheSpineView! I'm very glad it wasn't worse and grateful my seat belt did its job! The car took the brunt of the impact and although unfortunate, I'm glad my timing wasn't worse or I could've ended up T-boned! 😳 So yes! Important to put things in perspective. 8mo
Librariana @Soubhiville - Thank you so much, Soubhi! I'm very glad to be ok, too, and hopeful the doctor's visit will provide some answers/resolution/comfort? My back has definitely been complaining! 😜 8mo
Librariana I'm right there with ya, @quietjenn! And I'm equally glad that this accident wasn't worse... that it didn't turn into a multiple vehicle pileup... that I didn't hit anyone else, etc. I'm glad I keep my distance from other cars, for sure! And glad there was a safe spot for me to pull over, etc. 8mo
Librariana Me too, @DrexEdit! To be able to walk away from an accident is a blessing in and of itself! 8mo

Who would've ever thought that I would thoroughly enjoy listening to an audiobook about laundry!? Yet here we are and I've managed to learn quite a bit from the "Laundry Evangelist". This one will definitely have to become a print acquisition for future reference since it is jam packed full of very handy stain removal tips (and plenty of Southern charm!)

(Cont'd in comments ⬇️)

Librariana "Spook" by Mary Roach is a relatively recent listen and I don't know if I'll enjoy it quite as much as "Stiff", but I'm still willing to give it a try.

"Alone Together" (pg. 178 of 258) is an anthology I've been taking my time with given the subject matter and "La Maestría del Amor" is the Spanish edition of "The Mastery of Love" by Don Miguel Ruiz which I've just started.

In my defense, it was my birthday back on the 14th... and I was gifted bookstore gift cards... so I kinda HAD to use them...

And 2nd of all, one of the books purchased is one I've read before, by a favorite author, and one I did not own a copy of.

So it doesn't technically affect my book-buying budget.

So there!

⭐⭐⭐

CW: sexual assault

Weaving an FBI investigation into a meth-dealing ring within a tribal community alongside tragic deaths and a shocking murder, Firekeeper's Daughter follows eighteen-year-old Daunis' story and her involvement as a confidential informant. It is an exploration of bridging cultures, embracing identity, and honoring Ojibwe traditions and language.

(Cont'd ⬇️ in comments)

Librariana Although the story was quite atmospheric and intriguing, to me it also felt like the main character, at times, read as too juvenile. Overall, although a solid #ownvoices debut, I felt like it was unnecessarily lengthy (496 pgs.) and went in too many directions with not enough time spent fleshing out more critical details. #unpopularopinion 11mo

Ok, so I know what y'all are thinking... because I can like totally tap into your brilliant, beautiful minds and just KNOW these things!

You're thinking "Ana... it's almost midnight. What are you doing barely putting together a #BookSpin list!? And also... that's not 20 titles!"

But bear with me, dear Littens!

My goals are:
• finish reading the gosh darn books I'm #currentlyreading
• bring down current reads to maybe 3??

(Cont'd ⬇️)

Librariana 1 of 2: I've been reading Addie LaRue for way too long now and I get it... I don't want the story to be over and I'm scared that I'm gonna be a miserable, sobbing mess at the end of it, but you know what? July's gotta be it! Also... samesies for Dame Traveler. Gotta finish looking at all the pretty pictures. 12mo
Librariana 2 of 2: Plan is these 6 are totally on the list in alpha order numerically. Then I'm allowing myself 4 more titles to have a complete list of 10 for July. But seriously... the rest is all gonna be freebies and I'm gonna try to hold myself to a 3 book maximum on current reads. No more of this 6 book nonsense! 12mo

Hooked_on_books I find if I get too many books going at once, and “too many” can vary as to what that actually means, it feels a little out of control, so I feel you! Temperature reached 111⁰ today (although my husband's truck claimed it was 129⁰.)

We've had rolling blackouts to cope with the demand for electricity and although our neighborhood has experienced multiple outages, we've been very fortunate they've been brief.

So we're trying to do our part, keeping the house cool with the curtains drawn, minimal lighting, and a little oscillating room fan. Makes for cozy reading!

Hooked_on_books Yuck to that weather! It is amazing, though, how much window treatments can help minimize the heat influx. 12mo

Librariana @Hooked_on_books - we're feeling pretty yucky about the weather too, Holly 😫😔 It's concerning and with the blackouts, it's trickier to keep cool other than to jump in our cars, enjoy that AC, and go elsewhere in the city. AkashaVampie Beautiful!!! I love it. I wish I could have something like that. Sadly I don't have enough books to fill all that up. I'm an ebooks chick 12mo
Librariana @AkashaVampie - Hey, no shame in your game! 😊 I tried being an ebook kinda reader, but it just wasn't my jam. I know it's definitely a very smart option and lets you own SO many books, but I'm more of a physical/tactile book owner... that and I am known at one of our local indie bookstores! Lol! 😁 Thank you for the kind compliment! 🥰 I love my little shelves and can't wait to share what they'll look like once the IKEA ones are installed! 12mo

In the excitement over new shelving units, I failed to share a BEFORE picture of our home library space.

You'll have to pardon the slight mess in the corner, but this room continues to be a bit of a work in progress.

Eventually we'd like to build more custom storage in the closet, but for now, one thing at a time. Extending the shelves to the ceiling is the first order of business.

#homelibrary

Librarybelle Your shelves are amazing! ❤️❤️❤️ 12mo
Librariana @Librarybelle - Thank you so much! 😊🥰💜 The second picture I uploaded shows a better view of the shelves, the majority of which hold my books ☺ It's a little embarrassing, I suppose... especially because all of my husband's fit in one bookcase (pictured here in the left corner), but he married me knowing I was a book gal. He's more of an audiobook reader 😁😊 12mo

The furniture is coming! The furniture is coming!! 🥳🥰Happy anniversary to us! 😁😊🥳

Gotta wait a little over a month for these, but very excited about what our home library will look like with these new pieces.

Hubby plans to add crown molding and make them look like built-ins; I plan to help with the assembly and fill them with books and LEGO collections. Yay!! 🥳

#ikeaftw #homelibrary

marleed Congrats! I love my Billy shelves! 12mo
Librariana Oh good! Thank you, @marleed 😊 I'm glad to hear the positive feedback about the bookcases as this is our very first IKEA purchase. 12mo
ImperfectCJ Congrats! Our Billys are awesome. They even last through multiple moves. I just need to find space for more of them now. 12mo

vivastory Very exciting! 12mo
marleed I also purchased an extra shelf for each column of shelving - less white space, but more books! 12mo
Soubhiville Yay shelves! I look forward to your photos! I also have the same shelves and love them. 💙 (edited) 12mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Happy Anniversary ❤️ 12mo
Librariana @ImperfectCJ - It's good to know they'll be sturdy! The ones we currently own have been with us through 2 moves and they're still hanging in there... but they're mismatched and the weight of the books is making the shelves bow, so it'll be nice to have more space to distribute that 😁😊 12mo
Librariana @vivastory - Agreed, Scott! 😊 Seeing your post was a great motivation. We've been talking about getting new shelves for YEARS and Jeremy had considered building them himself, but we think this will be much easier. 12mo
Librariana @marleed - I didn't see that was an option! How cool! 😁😊 We just purchased the extension to go above so that they could reach the ceiling, but they'll definitely have more shelves than our current setup. 12mo
Librariana @Soubhiville - Thanks, Soubhi! 😁😊💜 I went ahead and posted 2 new pictures that show what the room looks like presently, mess included! 12mo
Librariana @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks - Thank you so much! 😁😊🥰 It was lucky 13! But I'm a fan of even numbers, so I like to think more of it as working on our 14th year 😉 12mo

#Notbookrelated in the slightest! But y'all...
I have a new #readingbuddy and she's just the softest, bestest thing ever! 🥰

She arrived yesterday afternoon right before we picked up my in-laws at the airport and they got to see my inner child light up when I opened the package that contained her.

She is a gift from my sister 😊 And this Auntie gifted her niece one just like it. Except she's a toddler and uses hers like a beanbag!

Hubby and I have been busy the last couple of weeks working on our front yard 😊

It's been a slightly tiresome yet very rewarding experience!

Above are the plans I drew out to have a record of what we planted and although these won't be in all their glorious, fully grown beauty by the time my in-laws come for their visit in a couple of days, the scabiosa is already blooming!

#gardening #pnw

Bklover I love your plans! Very professional looking. You‘ll have to show us the final product! 13mo
vivastory This is fantastic, Ana! 🌻🌼🌺 13mo

"That all that is wonderful in this world is frighteningly temporary and so when abundance of any kind comes, we must celebrate it..." - Andre Dubus III

From the tagged anthology, a collection of essays, poems, and interviews written by a wide array of authors who, through the sale of this book, will be donating their share to The Book Industry Charitable Foundation.

A very appropriate quote for a very special 2nd dose day ?

#fauciouchie

vivastory Congrats on the second dose, Ana! 👏👏🎉 14mo
Hooked_on_books Fauci ouchie? That‘s awesome. 😂 14mo
Librariana @vivastory - Thank you so much, Scott! 😁😊 My husband advised I stay home in case I started experiencing more intense symptoms/side effects and I'm glad I did. Right now I'm battling a headache, a *very* sore arm, and some lethargy, but I was trying to be a trooper about it and just deal... That ship has sailed and I'm gonna reach for some meds! Very grateful to've gotten my second dose no matter what! 14mo

Librariana @vivastory - Also wanted to add... how are you doing? Hope you're holding up as best as you can 💜 Hope your family is as well! 14mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - isn't it the best, Holly!? I heard someone say it some time back and I was like "that's brilliant!" When I got to my appointment yesterday, the airman at the counter asked if I was here for a vaccination and I very excitedly told her "Yes! I'm here for my 2nd Fauci ouchie!" and she chuckled so totally worth it! (They're all usually very serious.) 14mo
vivastory I'm doing okay. Thanks for asking! I have days that are better than others & will find myself suddenly emotional after seeing or hearing something that might trigger a memory. Still processing everything.. 14mo
Librariana @vivastory - That's to be understood 💜 Grief is a part of loss and not something that just gets swept under the rug or is easily dismissed... it has to be felt and processed. I hope you'll continue to be gentle with yourself and that it'll get a little bit easier with time. Virtual hugs to you! 13mo

Going through my phone's pictures, I came across this particular one from the tagged title ?

This picture book is part of a preschool book bag I added to our library's catalog on the subject of CAMPING ?

I think the only reason I took a snap was because I would be very curious to read the books Raj's dad picked out. Makes me wish they were real!

A book on "How to Organize Your Life"? Sign me up!
"Planning: Secrets Revealed"? Yes, please!

802Librarian I‘d read “Managing Expectations” for sure 😆 14mo

My May #BookSpinBingo board is already underway with my first finished read for the month - "Citizen: An American Lyric" by Claudia Rankine, a poignant collection of thought-provoking essays and poems on microaggressions, racial identity, and belonging.

It's nice to see my number of current reads dwindling and becoming more manageable... but I still wish I could simultaneously read 8 books at a time!

@Hooked_on_books @TheAromaofBooks

Hooked_on_books Good looking bingo board! 14mo
TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! 14mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - Thanks, Holly 😊 I need to get my act together a little bit better and go back to following in your fabulous footsteps with a live bingo board 😁 Thank you for tagging me in those posts, by the way! Always look forward to seeing yours for each month. 14mo
Librariana @TheAromaofBooks - 😊 Thank you for all you do in organizing this for us, Sarah! 14mo
Hooked_on_books I‘ll confess. I do the live board because I‘ve tried to make these graphics and they just look awful! I don‘t know how others (like you) make them look so good! So I found a creative way to be analog despite my failing. 😂 (edited) 14mo

Hooked_on_books Ha ha, I just posted mine late yesterday! I just can‘t post it any sooner, since I don‘t know what I‘ll finish before the next number draw until shortly before. So, really, we‘re both just expedient. 😬 14mo
Librariana @Hooked_on_books - Holly, I am right there with ya! I'm always hoping I'll squeeze in one more book before the beginning of the new month is upon us and guess what!? I did!! ? Finished "Pride and Premeditation" (which I mentioned on your post!) and also, after one of your excellent reviews, I updated my image - lol! 14mo

One of the Good Ones | Maika Moulite
post image
Pickpick

CW: police brutality, violence, racism, homophobia, bigotry, death and grief.

Co-written by sisters Maika and Maritza Moulite, the tagged title is a very unique work of fiction often described as a blend of "The Hate U Give" and the movie "Get Out".

With this in mind, it does come with content warnings as I do not wish for any reader to approach this without that knowledge, especially members of the Black community.

Continued in comments ⬇️

Librariana (1 of 2) "One of the Good Ones" flashes back and forth between past and present through multiple POVs to share a family's history and to tell us Kezi's story, a young social activist and YouTuber.

It follows Kezi's sisters and friends as they embark on a road trip to honor her memory, stopping at various locations that would've been documented in the heirloom copy of the Green Book they are using as a guide.

Librariana (2 of 2) As someone not born in the United States, there are aspects of its history that I'm unfamiliar with and am still learning about as an adult. Choosing to read "Opening the Road" by Keila V. Dawson, a juvenile Non-fiction book, in tandem with "One of the Good Ones", gave my reading experience a brand new perspective. 1y

An interesting article in this week's Publishers Weekly.

Mentions the tagged title in the introductory paragraph - "Bookishness: Loving Books in a Digital Age."

Since this is a professional periodical I have to pass along to colleagues, I like to be conscientious of how much time I spend with it.

Enter the copy machine to my rescue! Will be diving into it this weekend and highlighting to my heart's content ????

Friends... I don't know how to play #BookSpinBingo right ?‍♀️

Lol! ????

You would think one would AIM to score a BINGO... but I'm such a mood reader, that I'm kind of all over the place!

Not only that, but I was awful and used up my free spaces first! ?‍♀️

My 'plan' is to reel in my wild focus with some "up next" options to at least TRY to score a BINGO ?

But first, I should probably finish my current reads, huh? ?

peanutnine I am the same! Always all over the board and reading too many books at once 🤣 1y

That's a wrap on the #AwesomeApril #Readathon, Littens ???

All things considered, I think I did pretty well on my goals!

I completed 3 books, although 1 of them was not a current read: "Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me"

I started reading "Sheets", but did not finish it.

I made some decent progress on "THITCS" and started a brand new book - "Pride and Premeditation" - that wasn't even in the original lineup ?‍♀️

My other goals are to:

• Finish 3 of my 4 current reads ???
• Reread "Sheets" to continue with "Delicates"
• Start "Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me", my #BookSpin selection for April
