My son & I picked it up today, & fell into the rabbit wholeheartedly into the rabbit hole of contemporary composer Eric Whitacre. We listened to his rendition of Lux Aurumque,or Light and Gold, based on a poem by the poet Edward Esce.Whitacre said of this poem: [whose] “genuine, elegant simplicity…[means] “A simple approach was essential to the success of the work, and I waited patiently for the tight harmonies to shimmer and glow.”His chorus shines.

BookishMarginalia Oooooooo - stacked! now

Excited about this list from my #AuldLangSpine match @Sharpeipup Thanks do much for hosting this another year @monalyisha

monalyisha Whenever I see Patricia Highsmith‘s name, I always think of the snail smuggling story. 3d
monalyisha From Book Riot: “She was, after all, a genius, a bona fide eccentric. She loved animals, particularly snails, which she kept by the hundred as pets and took to parties clinging to a leaf of lettuce in her handbag. Writer and critic Terry Castle describes how she once “smuggled her cherished pet snails through French customs by hiding six or eight of them under each bosom”. 3d

While this uplifting, gem of a novel is about the effect of books on people, mostly it is about the friendship that blossoms between Carl, an elderly book walker book walker a Schascha, a precocious 10-year-old girl. Together, they walk the streets at night to deliver books curated by Carl to shut-ins.Themes include the magic of reading, the power books to unite people & form friendships, & the power of books to create community.#10BeforetheEnd

A day home.Snow/freezing rain expected.I was surprised! I have to laugh when I think of all of you in states with heavy snowfall, because today we expect 3-4 inches.Snow supposed to start falling at 10:00. We have no walkers in our district due to lack of sidewalks. Thus, it becomes a busing issue & at times the bus company‘s call. No complaints here; I woke at the same time I always do.It‘s been quiet, contemplative.☕️📚🙏🏻

Bookwormjillk I love your mug! Enjoy the day.

We were hoping for a 2 hour delay here, but all we got was rain. But it's ok- first day after Thanksgiving break I think they were secretly happy to go back.
4d
kspenmoll @Bookwormjillk I plan to enjoy this gift of a day! 4d
Amiable I‘m working from home today. It‘s not heavy snow that bothers me —as a native New Englander, I can drive in that. It‘s the icy rain/sleet mix that keeps my butt in the house. Nope. Not going to get on I-95 if there‘s a chance of slick roads. People already drive like idiots on that highway in good weather. 😖 4d

During early Puritan America until the end of the 18th century, “ bundling”, a custom in which couples were “ bundled” separately in cloths & permitted to spend nights together in bed, parental approval was common. Emmy approves of tonight‘s read. #TheLitsyIrregulars #TLI #PasticheBR

Just finished Ken Burn‘s American Revolution documentary- as with all his work, it was magnificent.

dabbe I can't wait to stream these! And hello, dearest Emmy! 🖤🐾🤎 2w

kspenmoll @Cuilin She does not like when I read as she gets little attention. Often she bats at my book, hoping to get rid of it I am sure! 😸 2w
kspenmoll @dabbe Emmy is happy you said hi! She is not happy with all the attention Poe is getting- she has started swatting him.🙀 2w

kspenmoll @dabbe Some of the graves date back to 1840s when Tariffville was established. There was a factory explosion in 1870s- many graves from that event.Disease, civil war- some graves say what they died of. (edited) 2w
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll I‘d be reading every single one. 2w

Pickpick

A vivid, lyrical memoir of the author‘s nomadic, early family life in post war England. They have lived with the Roma,in abandoned huts by hops fields,in working class city neighborhoods. But her true love is the open country with its natural bounty. Her memoir is an immersion into the natural world, revealing her deep visceral connection to it.The title is taken from her father‘s motto when life gets tough:”This time next year will be laughing.”

we do not care that I was up in the wee hours last night and ordered tons of “cute” bookmarks & stickers which I don‘t need & now have to return. We do not care that we have to set mouse traps all over the laundry room where there is a new mouse population explosion-only Emmy gets them now but she has few teeth so she is not successful that often. We have an old house with red stone foundation-easy access.

TheBookHippie 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 I feel you!!!! 2w
