This is from Watching the Perseids by Jeff Myers. This book of poems chronicles his father‘s treatment for & death due to cancer, as well as his own responses to the aftermath of his father‘s dying & death. It is authentic, raw, heartbreakingly beautiful.
This book was not in our database.
If you take a photo of this post & enlarge you can read the poem.

A little tea, some penuche walnut fudge, a book& my kitties makes for a lovely hour. 💕💕💕

AlaMich What does penuche taste like? I always just go for the standard chocolate. 2d
kspenmoll @AlaMich It‘s made with butter & brown sugar, milk, vanilla. It tastes like all those ingredients mixed together- a light brown sugar. I tried it with walnuts added because I can‘t eat chocolate. I love it! 1d

Finished TMITBS. I thoroughly enjoyed this!Anne Beddingfeld, the protagonist is intelligent, curious, self aware, independent,& seeking adventure & travel. After she witnesses a terrified man fall onto train tracks, she observes the doctor who came to his aid going thru his pockets, then hurrying away. She notices a paper by with a few numbers on it. What does it mean? What terrified the man? Convoluted plot where all is not what it seems. #ChristieCapers

This #8 in the DCI Banks series is a stunner.
A man is charged with the murder of a wealthy, prominent politician‘s daughter.Prior to his trial, the accused spends months in jail, which he narrates in minute detail.I don‘t want to give anything away, but suffice to say there is a clever multi layered plot,& an in-depth character study. The surprising ending left me cynically wondering if her murder will be avenged or court justice will prevail.

The dinner,The Quaker Dinner is 93 years old- a place of nostalgia for me,as it was a destination of choice when my sibs & I were skipping Mass & it rained. The local reservoir‘s was for sunny days.😏

#NationalPoetryMonth #April #day18 #water #AprilPoetryChallenge
These poems were translated by Jane Kenyon with Vera Sandomirsky Dunham in 1985. They are included in her book, Collected Poems, which is how I was introduced to this Russian poet.

https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/anna-akhmatova

BooksandCoffee4Me Ah, someone else who knows and appreciates Akhmatova‘s poetry! Last year when I was teaching adult Ed English language learners, one of my students from Russia read one of Akhmatova‘s poems with me for the class, I reading in English and he reading stanzas then in Russian. 2w

‘“A cadaveric spasm had caused Rothwell to grab and hold onto a handful of dust at the moment of death, and Banks thought of the T.S.Elliott quotation, “I will show you fear and a handful of dust,”which he had come across as the title of an Evelyn Waugh novel.”‘
A wild, ingenious plot, with unforeseen consequences for many of the characters.Bank‘ nemesis “Dirty Dick reappears to the consternation of Banks. At Banks request, big, bumbling, but astute ⬇️

kspenmoll ⬆️ Sgt.Hatchley also reappears & uses his many contacts to sus out a clue left behind at the murder site, some shotgun cleaning papers with an unusual, mild porn sheet. This adds some humor. As in some of previous novels in the series, there are multiple mentions by Banks of music & literature that sent me down a rabbit hole- adding some music to my library. Enjoying a Sam Adams Cold Snap as I write this review. Do you see Poe‘s ears poking up? (edited) 2w
