Second book I forgot to include on August 2025, which means that I read 15 books instead of 13.

I have mix feelings with this story. Sometimes I found Zelu so immature and annoying. But then, when you understand her background and all the challenges she had to surpass in her life even with her family resistant to accept the use of technology to give Zulu independence, I change my perspective. Zelu‘s novel is like an alter ego. L⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) I think I was growing with Zelu while I was reading this novel. But this novel is about other topics important to understand prejudices, social pressure among others. I‘m glad I read this novel because unlike many readers, I haven‘t enjoy Akata Witch, I still need to read the last book. But I liked and enjoyed this one.

😱I forgot 2 books read on August 2025 bk1

Another author thay I bought a couple of her books when BookOutlet shipped to PR. without knowing that they are Christian fiction. I haven‘t found much religious content which is not my thing. This story is about to reveal what happened in a murder. The church was involved but the story focus in the investigation. Some conservative beliefs are discussed but I integrated as part of the story⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) What I like of this author style is that her story are so atmospheric creating that mysterious gothic scene. Usually stories are slow pace. 3.5/3.7⭐️ 1w

December 2025 Book #4 last book read this month last book read in 2025📚🙌

This was an interesting book. A body was found with supposedly a Christmas‘ list. But that was a victim‘s list. The plot is discovering who is this killer, working in the profile and follow clues. Tom, the detective, also has his secrets. There is an alternate story where a narrator is telling how was they Christmas. There are two twists in the story, ⬇️

Gissy (Cont) The first twist I didn‘t see coming. The second one, well you can guess at some point. What I was a little disappointed was in the killer‘s motive to commit the crimes. But in general I like this story and characters. 3.8⭐️

December 2025 Book #3

Madeline is a survivor of a crime attempt but she can‘t remember anything. Someone is paying for that crime and now, years later request a review in his case. This famous writer find Madeline after she moved, and is offering her to reveal what real happened. A friend of Madeline disagree with this offer. Then the plot is how Madeline remembers what happened and an expected (obvious) romance rise. ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) I found it slow and boring. The killer? It doesn‘t make sense to me why he did it, in some way because under the influence of drugs, anything is possible. But still🙄

My first novel by this author. I will read something else to see if I like it🤷🏽‍♀️3⭐️

Not as good as the first one. As we saw in the first book, it has all these gossip interaction through emails or texts creating a confusing situation. Humorous tone like the first one. For a novella, wI think it was good because the is a plot development and a good closure. Are we going to see a sequel? 🤔

December 2025 Book #1

I have different editions and I am only in book 3🤦🏽‍♀️Those of you ,who have read my reaction to this series, know that I see a little strange that relationship between Eve Dallas and Roarke, I think he, in some way, try to control Eve, and she, is in someway, is vulnerable, which means for me, that there is a control there,. Anyway, thats my perception as a reader. Most people love Roarke. But I enjoy this book. ⬇️

Gissy (Cont) It seems Dallas is going to take a big step in her relationship with Roarke but then occurred this brutal murder and she prioritized her job. The story has funny scenes and dramatic ones like those with Eve and her traumatic past experience😢Even when it was interesting , I noticed some procedures unrealistic, not accurate due to conflict of interest in her participation. Did I say unrealistic? 🤔Are we seeing something like⬇ (edited) 1w
Gissy (Cont.) that, now, in some “poltical world”?🤔Never mind, back to the story. Based on some legal aspects related with my past work, it could be expected not see that involvement due to conflict of interest, there…it sounds better. Well, it has a good ending because you want to know what is going to happen in that relationship…tan..tan..tan..tan…3.5/3.8⭐️ 1w

November 2025 #Book #6 last book read that mont

That cozy cover but it didn‘t work for me. I found this story so boring🤷🏽‍♀️Romances are not my favorite genre but I can enjoy them, like if they are part of a good story or when they happen in other genres. I‘m seeing lately that those supposedly “spicy” novels don‘t work well for me. Novel has more pages describing this forced, bad constructed” scenes that I just get bored in the middle⬇️

Gissy (Cont) of the “action”😳😂😂😂But the reason is that I feel that some authors just force those scenes, don‘t have content to continue with a good plot/drama/action. If there is a good plot or character driven story, then those scenes would be delightful. Even if the tone of the novel is humorous. Didn‘t happen in this one, at least I didn‘t perceive it 🥱2⭐️ 1w

During phone calls and house searching she discover that her husband has many secrets. Now she sees someone approaching the house, hiding outside. What happened in her husband‘s life? What are these secrets? ⬇️

Gissy (Cont) Is Sadie in danger? Well, a thriller with some good twist but executed in a “okay” way🙄Sadie made bad choices, and her reaction to danger situations are odd? I don‘t know but it has hopeful ending. I just think it was ok, meh🤷🏽‍♀️2.8/3⭐️ 1w

Well, it took me 2 years to read this one. As I say, I will read the book, eventually. I can‘t help it, I‘m a slow, mood reader who get distracted by other books🥹🤷🏽‍♀️😔
Wow, I really like this novel with all those unlikable characters and dysfunctional family dynamics. If you hate so much those characters, well I think then that author made her job. Of course, it has a great premise and plot based on real event⬇️

Gissy (Cont) It is a sad story😢I just thought those situations are still happening. Persons that take financial advantage from persons with disabilities. Of course in that time, the law was more conservative and in favor of male spouses. I read some information related with the real case which inspired the author to write this novel. So sad💔A novel that describes pretty well those antisocial/psychopath personality traits. 4.5⭐️ 1w

I made an incorrect comment when I was reviewing The hacienda😳I already corrected it. I mentioned that there was an attempt of a forbidden romance, but is in this novel where that incident happens🤦🏽‍♀️Both novels have the same gothic atmosphere and tone. I liked this one too. This author was added my favorite author list. The story has a slow pace and it takes a couple of pages until I was immersed in the story⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) I also like her books covers😍Again, I read the physical book with audiobooks and really liked it, so much drama😂The “horror” part, it was okay. I found more interesting the drama🙄and she is so good describing a good gothic atmosphere. 4⭐️ 1w

There is a movie adaptation of this book, it is not bad but I highly recommend to read the book first. This is a slow pace character driven story. The book August character, is so different of the the movie one, the actor is good but not same. In the book you will understand better that great twist at the end😱Maybe there was a sensation that the story was dragged out after the half part but then…the twist⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) starts to reveal the truth behind the murders…tan..tan..tan..tan…But the movie is so good in presenting that dark, mysterious, gothic atmosphere. I enjoyed it as you can see…I love character driven novels…😍4/4.5⭐️and I like that edition cover, giving a vintage look, stained with blood😳 1w

At her arrival, something is familiar to Julia. Mrs Sinclair is confusing her with another woman. Then, strange things happens and Julia feels that she is trapped in that house, in some way she feels knows the house and some objects seem familiar⬇️

Gissy (Cont) but how if she has never been in that house. A great secret is revealed and the novel wrntvdow. It was unrealistic for me that secret and the seance little bit dramatic. But what liked of this novel an author‘s writing style is how she create that ambience. It is like you are walking slowly, and you feel you are seeing through the eyes of the character. I will continue reading some other novels I own by this author. (edited) 1w

Story is about two sisters that separated during the war. But then they will reunite. They changed so much during that period they were apart, but the war circumstances will help them to⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) Part of the story will described characters life in the Warsaw ghetto💔😢It has hard, emotional parts. Eighty years after, I still ask myself, why? Author hope that novels like this one “will reinforce our resolve to do better by our human beings.” 4/4.5⭐️

August 2025 Book #11

Not necessarily my favorite by this author but I still liked it. This author has a magnificent way to write about family dynamics with difficult past, vulnerable environment, risky choices with fatal consequences. At the same time, even in controversial circumstances, you want to understand his characters, like Roman and his terrible choices☹️Do we need just to let people face their mistakes? Even if they are family? ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) Is it better to just let them take responsibility of their acts? Roman minimizes that terrible world of drugs and the consequences were so sad. 😢I read the physical book with the audiobook and this narrator is just amazing. He is the same narrator in the novels I have read by this author. You feel the drama, the ambience, you are just part of the novel. So good, Adam L. White. Texreader Excellent review. I agree. I liked this book but not as much as some of his others. I think I only have one more book by him I haven‘t read. 1w

August 2025 Book #10 love that cover. I found an old secondhand copy not in the best condition but it is hardcover with the original cover 😍

I liked this story but didn‘t love it. I need to confess that not always speculative novels work for me🤷🏽‍♀️I was expecting something else. I didn‘t feel connected with the story because it didn‘t make sense to me why all these voodoo situation which means that I did f love the ending. 3.5/3.7⭐️

Gissy I think the problem here was my taste in this type of genre and not the novel per se. I definitely will read The Reformatory because in general, I liked author‘s writing style. It‘s was me, not the novel😂This copy stays in my home. Too pretty and maybe sometimes I could re-read it

August 2025 Book #9

A cozy mystery about Gabrielle a survivor of a crime attempt had difficulties to continue with her routine work and social life. She decides then to move to this small town were she finds a job in a library. Then things start to happen.
You can be frustrated sometimes with this character and the story per se was okay. But there was some parts I liked but. It goes from meh to kay☺️3⭐️

Gissy I still will like to try the second book on this series but I don‘t know if it will be about this character or if they are independent mysteries developed during summer season.

August 2025 Book #8

I enjoyed this novel since it has a couple of twists with family drama. Mrs. MacFarland, a survivor of London Blitz event never talk about her past, but this time she requested to be interviewed by Kendra, a graduated student. Why Mrs MacFarland decided to talk now? In this two time line story we will know about Isabel experiences during the war and all about her family . 3.8/4⭐️

August 2025 Book #7

Beautiful cover. Author‘s note indicates that this novel was inspired of what happened during the Spanish Flu and what we lived during the pandemic time with COVID. This is the story of immigrant Pía who at her 13 years old start to search for her family since she lost contact with them while she was at the hospital. How Pía was separated from her family and how she survived due to her immigrat status was hard. ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) It came to my mind how difficult was that period of time. Another novel that can be classified as heartwarming story with hope. However, as in some recents novels related with recent pandemic situation, I feel that story is “forced” “too constructed?? I don‘t know how to describe it but I don‘t see a free flow of plot development🤷🏽‍♀️I hope you can understand what I‘m trying to express in Spanish and translating it to English😳😂3.7⭐️ 1w

TheAromaofBooks Sometimes it feels like an author has a “message“ to convey and write the story to make it happen. I think those types of stories can feel contrived even if the message itself is a good one. 1w
Gissy @TheAromaofBooks Agree, you explained it so well what I struggled and wanted to express with my Spanglish 😂Maybe author was asked to write something related with Covid 😳 1w

August 2025 Book #6

I didn‘t connect with this novel story because it was like some kind of forced, conveniently constructed to just have something related with September 11 events. That‘s how I felt as a reader. However, during reading time, I absolutely transpited my thoughts of what happened that day and it was devastated to me. Just like I feel when I read novels about the WWI, WWII or any other tragic event. Still don‘t understand why ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) it occurred…because some people disagree in topic/issues related with politics, power, religion, culture etc,? so many innocent people paid for that💔😢

This is a heartbreaking novel, but in my case, I couldn‘t connect with how the plot was developed, but the theme was a powerful.

August 2025 Book #5

Danielle inherited a house and when she visited, she realized that a ghost lives in her house. This ghost asks Danielle‘s help to find out how he died. It is a simple story that reminded me The Ghost and Mrs Muir and the tv show Ghost Whisperer. Since I liked those two stories maybe that‘s why I enjoyed this book, a soft pick that I needed. Let‘s see what happens in book 2. 3⭐️

August 2025 Book #4

This story is inspired in events that occurred in Willowbrook and which were exposed by Geraldo Rivera about deplorable conditions students with disabilities and residents were living and the abuse they received. The novel is about Sage and her twin sister who had disabilities and she thought was dead but she was not. Then Sage is confused by her twin sister and is through her that we will see what happen insudecWilkiwbrook⬇️

Gissy The author‘s note give information and references about Willowbrook and the class action lawsuit parents and guardians filed after the situation was exposed. When I read the novel, it sounded too exaggerated and almost unrealistic but after author‘s note, I think real events could be worst. The author clarified which areas were fictionalized. Even with this explanation, you will like to know what happened to Sage and her sister. 3.8⭐️ 2w

Gissy @BkClubCare Yes! I will try to see that documentary by Geraldo Rivera. They definitely closed the late in the 80‘ but according to the author there is a report in 2020 about how the abuse continue in some small institutions 💔 2w

August 2025 Books #3

A cozy mystery set in the 1930‘s where Clara inherited her uncle detective agency. I like Clara Vale character, well educated woman, likes fashion but down to earth. She has a dramatic mother who she ignores sometimes. The novel presents some issues women faced during that time which can be annoying today but we are still working in that equity. The story is funny, fast paced and the mystery is interesting. ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) There are other interesting characters.

I read the first 2 books in the series first in order to read third one in the series which was part of #CBBC This series must be read in order. I will continue with this series. The fifth book will be release this month.
