Maybe it was my mood lately but this one didn't hit as well as I expected. Two young teens spend the summer exploring the small town where they vacation and encounter adult situations and problems. A lot of angst and grief. I liked the art style and how it was done in all one color.

peanutnine 1. I live in Shelby, a small city in western NC
2. I love seeing all the Christmas lights! 🎄
3. I really like the word search game and filling out book bingos
4. Romance for sure, but also sci-fi/fantasy
3d
TheAromaofBooks 1. I'm in a small town in southeastern Ohio, heart of the slushbelt as we like to say 😂
2. Family times and food!!
3. I am a bingo addict.
4. Anything with a happy ending - I trend towards romance, but love fantasy, scifi, thrillers, and mysteries as well. I also enjoy nonfiction about practical subjects, like gardening and food.
Excited to be playing WinterGames with you all!!!

Andrew65 @peanutnine Is NC, North Carolina? 3d
Andrew65 1 l live in Yorkshire, in northern England, although born in London.
2. Time to chill, relax & get lost in books! Also all the lights / colour and festive feel.
3. Word search & team feel, along with choosing books for bingos/ readathons.
4. Mystery and suspense, especially crime. Also enjoy historical fiction, some fantasy, and what would badly be termed chick lit (without the sex). At Christmas like to get lost in Christmas stories & romance.
3d
Deblovestoread 1. I live in the Willamette Valley Oregon. I‘m not too far from the ocean, the desert or the city. 2. I love decorating the tree and house, the music & movies. 3. Word search, bingo and all the games. 4. Historical Fic, mysteries, fantasy and a little Christmas romance. 👋🏼 team! 🎄 (edited) 3d
peanutnine @Andrew65 yes North Carolina! I definitely love all the Christmas stories this time of year 😄 3d
5280reader

1. I live in Erie, Colorado about 30 min. north of Denver.
2. I love baking Christmas cookies and enjoying my daughter home from college. I collect ornaments so decorating the tree is high up there too!
3. Probably the bingo. I feel like I‘m 75 in a small town smoky bingo hall dabbing 25 bingo cards in front of me.
4. Love a good rom com with smart writing and a great meet cute. Bonus if it‘s an audiobook with an English accented narrator.
3d
peanutnine @Deblovestoread I've always wanted to visit Oregon, it seems like a beautiful place! Christmas music is the best, I'm so excited that it is an acceptable time to listen to it again 😅 3d

peanutnine @5280reader your bingo analogy 🤣 love it! So true. I love decorating Christmas cookies even though I can't eat them (allergies) 3d
candc320 1. I live in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida. 2. I absolutely love watching all the holiday movies (other than Hallmark….romance isn‘t really my thing) and going around at night looking at all the Christmas lights! 3. I‘m excited for all the Bingos! 4. My favorite genres are Horror, Thriller/Mystery, and Historical Fiction. 3d

Interesting & frustrating how the world is designed for men. The author explains how the male default bias affects women by not giving them effective products/services & can also cause harm. Everything from city planning to product design suffers from a lack of data pertaining to women. The gender data gap will take years to overcome, if decision makers even choose to address the problem. And the best way to start is by including women in planning

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage That‘s so discouraging 😣 3d
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I just recently saw a story about this issue in AI, specifically using a lot of white men in training it, making the outcomes biased. 🫣 3d
peanutnine @Riveted_Reader_Melissa yup, this book was written a few years ago but it still had a section on the issues in algorithms and technology because of gender biased data. I can imagine it's even worse now with the new AI mess 3d

I really love this series, it's so low angst and the characters are great. This one is Keller's story, who is fighting his attraction to his son's best friend. But when his son is moving across the country and Will doesn't have a place to stay, he can only offer to help. Not knowing that Will has had a crush on him for years.

peanutnine @TheAromaofBooks you should be able to add files to the google drive if you'd like to share it there @Patchshank yay! You're welcome 🤗 1w
Patchshank I forgot to ask if the rules are the same as previous years. Mostly do short stories still the same amount of points as books and does reading for reading challenges still double your points? Or whatever it was. I don't remember now. 1w
peanutnine @Patchshank short stories count for book points. You get 10 points for each hour read during each readathon, which you can stack multiple 1w
Patchshank Maybe the point stacking is what I'm trying to think of. I knew there was something extra with the reading challenges. I didn't do this last year so my memory is a bit fuzzy. Thank you! 1w
peanutnine @Patchshank you're welcome 🤗 1w
mcipher My first year and I have to say I‘m a little overwhelmed! I may not be racking up points because of that 😅 6d
peanutnine @mcipher don't stress too much! The point is to get in the holiday spirit, interact on Litsy a bit, and mostly just have fun! Focus on reading and pick maybe one or two extra activities that you'd like to try but only do what makes you happy! The points aren't as important as enjoying yourself ☺️ 6d

This was a well written story by this author duo. My rating is simply a reflection of my experience reading it. One of the main characters has some major mental health work to do after being in a toxic relationship (with emotional abuse and gaslighting) for years. That just hit a bit too close to home for me and it was a struggle to get through some heavy parts. But I finished for the HEA

This was a fun, dark fairytale reimagining. Princess Floralinda is trapped at the top of a forty flight tower, waiting for a prince to rescue her. But no prince has made it past the dragon on Flight One. It's up to Floralinda to venture down the tower and overcome the monsters on each flight on her own. The humor of the story was very cheeky and I loved the inventive battle techniques

This author has officially become an autobuy for me. This book was so fun & sexy! Chandler has a one night stand that's the worst sex of her life, only to find out the guy she slept with is her newest client as a ghostwriter. When Finn finds out the truth of that night and is horrified, she agrees to give him lessons to improve. The communication around sex & relationships was so good & refreshing. Also great mental health rep with anxiety and OCD

Finished the last of this fantastic trilogy. This one has a completely different premise from the first two but features previous characters. I was so happy to finally get a story for Galen! The banter between him and Piper was so great. Honestly this one was way more character-driven than the last two but I really enjoyed it.

October Fiction #ReadingBracket2023 update
This witchy book stole the show for the month! But I can't choose between it and A Restless Truth just yet so putting a hold on that decision until later...

Here's my updated nonfiction #ReadingBracket2023 after October. The two books I finished didn't particularly wow me so September's pick is the easy winner for the quarter

Here's my final #Scarathlon point total. The word search game was my friend 👻
This is such a fun event, I had a blast reading some spooky books and managed to crush my goal of 31 books by finishing 33 and some short stories.
Thanks @Bookwormjillk for being our lovely #TeamBOOkLovers leader!

This was a cute witchy romcom with ghosts and a haunted house and a small snowy island town. I liked how Riley was able to find her people and come into her power. Her relationship with Edison was sweet but took a backseat to the plot of the house and it's residents, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed the mystery of it all, I'll definitely continue the series.

Ugh I almost bailed on this one a couple times. I am all for a silly romance but this one felt too cringe. The characters' fixation on how hot the other was and how much they wanted to bang each other was over the top ridiculous. And I thought the magic system was confusing and wasn't explained very well. Overall disappointing, the cover is so cute 😕

Okay add me to the long list of people who rave about this book. It was SO SWEET. It is the definition of cozy. I loved the girls, I loved the magic, I loved the romance. The conflict was there, but just low stakes enough to not ping my anxiety.
Just read this, if you haven't already. I'm so glad I own this book, I can see it becoming an annual reread.
Also I want some of Mika's tea ☕✨

Welcome to Nola. It's a city a lot like New Orleans, except filled with magic, music, and wonders. But as magical songs start to disappear, the city is in danger. It's up to Perilous Graves and his friends to rescue the songs before it's too late.
This was such a lovely adventure. It reminded me of the Phantom Tollbooth mixed with the Starless Sea. Definitely one to reread and get more out of each time.

The Fell of Dark | Caleb Roehrig

This was a fun but dark vampire apocalyptic type book. Auggie is used to living in a town full of vampires. He's not used to them constantly approaching him, claiming that he's some prophesied vessel for the rise of a dark being. Now he's got multiple cults after him trying to get him on their side while he's just trying to pass algebra. And hows he supposed to keep his head when the cute vampires keep flirting with him?
Twas a hilarious adventure

When his brother Aidan goes missing for days and reappears in the attic telling a strange story about where he's been, Lucas doesn't know what to believe. The truth doesn't seem possible, but nothing else makes sense either.
This was an introspective story about family and faith.

This was a short, atmospheric novella about a lonely man who lives on the edge of the woods befriending the monster who lives within. They find connection through gardening and Ellis finds the courage to enter the pumpkin produce competition in the village despite his nasty neighbor's vehemence against it.

Happy Halloween from our taco cats 🌮😹
Three out of four let us amuse ourselves with the costume (grumpy Oakley was having none of it) but only Cam seemed totally unbothered and content.
