Vengeance in Death | Nora Roberts, J. D. Robb

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: A man from Roarke‘s distant Irish past is brutally murdered in what looks like a revenge killing, and Eve is tagged personally to work the case. Privately, Roarke and Somerset allude to dangerous secrets from their past that may have lead to this man‘s death and Roarke warns that he may need to tell Eve everything. I‘m guessing this has to do with the vengeance Roarke sought in return for Somerset‘s daughter‘s death.⬇️

StayCurious Soon, Eve is contacted by the killer again and given the challenge to find his next victim before it‘s too late. This time it‘s someone Roarke was indeed close to, a man who was once a friend. And Eve doesn‘t know how to handle his grief and anger. Then, Eve places Somerset of all people at the scene of the first crime. And she has to bring him in for questioning. This of course places her and the butler even more at odds⬇️ 4d
StayCurious and Roarke torn in the middle. This killer is playing with them all, and he‘s not finished yet. 4d

Librarybelle I was surprised by how graphically violent this one is. I wanted to shake Summerset with his evasiveness and the impasse he and Eve seem to have had become a problem. I understand why he does not trust her, but it would have been nice for them to coexist at least cordially by now. 4d
StayCurious @Librarybelle yes the murder was rough - but I think the book is trying to escalate the series a bit. And it‘s about time for Eve and Summerset to come to a head. 4d
Librarybelle @StayCurious I can definitely see an escalation. It serves too as another separation between Roberts the romance and suspense romance writer and Robb the futuristic mystery writer. And yes, they were well due to come to a head. 4d
LitStephanie I have been off Litsy for months but love this series. Can I join, pretty please? 4d
LitStephanie @Librarybelle they are SO different. I can't stand Nora Roberts books but love the Robb series. 4d
StayCurious @LitStephanie absolutely! We check in once a week and read 5 chapters per week. We‘re on book 6! 4d

Our June read for #LittensLoveRomance has been chosen! Though it was a close vote. This book doesn‘t have chapters really, it‘s separated into sections. Some of them are longish so try to plan ahead (I need to remind myself of that!) We‘ll be starting mid June to allow time to find the book. Let me know if you want to be tagged in my daily posts!

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.35-37: Meh. I mean, they finally get their HEA but because I didn‘t really like them as characters I‘m finding it hard to care? Maybe that‘s a bit harsh. I just found myself constantly irritated during this book. But it certainly made for some fun discussions and I enjoyed reading it with you all! ⬇️

StayCurious Do I think I‘ll continue the series? Probably not because, as much as I‘m a bit interested in some of the other stories, there are so many other books out there there is no time for a series I might not be fully invested in. 2w
TheSpineView I have to agree with you. I just never cared what happened. This is a reread for me. I gave it 4 stars but thought it was 3.5, now I am thinking I should have rounded down instead of up. I don't think I'll read the others in the series either. 2w
See All 9 Comments
Kshakal 100% agree with you!! 2w
CrowCAH Thanks for leading us @StayCurious ! I won‘t be continuing the series. But like everyone it was kinda on the okay side for me. The first half with Mason‘s death was very emotional. But when it focused on the family dynamic and Josey and Liam it lost the immediacy, felt like the reader was just a viewer and not invested. They did get their HEA, so it‘s a romance. 2w
OriginalCyn620 Agree 💯, but thanks for being our fearless leader! Even if our book isn‘t a winner, it‘s always fun to see your memes and discussing with the group! 😂 2w
LiseWorks I agree with you Renee, there are a lot more series I m invested in. I still like Liam and felt sorry that he had parents like that. It would have been great to see his dad's reaction about Noah. 2w
dabbe #fanofthepan! 🤩🤩🤩 2w
julieclair @CrowCAH “just a viewer and not invested” is the perfect way to put it. 👍 @StayCurious your daily memes and our discussions still made this “meh” book lots of fun! 😃 2w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.33-34: I feel like Sam would have made a bigger scene while being fired. It was over too quickly! A fit would‘ve been thrown. But I guess that‘s a good thing. No mo‘ drama. I mean, Nick‘s gone, Sam‘s gone, Josie‘s practically living with Liam…which was so quick but I guess they have waited ten years. Noah isn‘t too broken up about Nick. So alls well that ends well. Oh, there are still 3 chapters? Sigh-We‘ll finish tomorrow.

TheSpineView I agree on the drama with Sam. The lack of has my wondering if this is a different character. 2w
LiseWorks I couldn't figure out why she showed up half naked. Way to make yourself be what did she call Josie? A Wh..e.? It was rather done quickly. 2w
CrowCAH I agree Sam gave up rather easily. I‘m not heartbroken over Nick being gone. He removed himself from a situation in which he never should have been in. Noah is taking everything pretty chill. Almost seems like he‘s younger than 10, because I would think a ten year old would be more vocal and questioning than he is. 2w
julieclair That whole Sam scene was just bizarre. 2w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.31-32: well at least they listened to each other and talked things out. And now they‘re cozy cozy again lol. Well why not - I mean now that Nick is out of the way (I say with a bit of sarcasm). Now they‘ll have to deal with Sam before she does something stupid - wait, who‘s at the door?

LiseWorks Yeah, it's Sam at the door. She's going to cause trouble pretending she's the girlfriend. What is she up to? Why did Josie cover her mouth. Did she bring Nick back? Is she pretending she's pregnant with Liams baby? 2w
CrowCAH Yeah at least the adults are talking some stuff out. Sam is up to no good showing up at the door. 2w
TheSpineView Seems there is always a trouble maker in the crowd. 2w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.29-30: well, Liam should‘ve for sure handled things with Sam in a better way. Not that she‘s not completely overstepping here but he could‘ve talked to her about what was going on and what his plans were. Yikes. At least Liam‘s mom seems genuinely interested in Noah. We‘ll see about his father.

CrowCAH I don‘t like Sam she‘s very pushy. I agree Liam‘s mom seems really interested in Noah and getting back into Liam‘s life. 3w
TheSpineView Not a fan of Sam. Actually, I don't get a lot of the actions of these characters. 3w

LiseWorks Liam should have set boundaries with Sam. She is something else. I can see why Liam left with his parents being the way they were. 3w
OriginalCyn620 Sam is a piece of work! She‘s coming on way too strong, desperate really. But I agree, Liam should‘ve set boundaries. He apparently just doesn‘t like to communicate with anyone. 🤦🏻‍♀️ (edited) 3w

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.16-20: Eve gets new leads that take her to Isis‘ lover Chaz and away from Selena Cross. His father was a killer. Better be careful Eve: the sins of the father do not make the man - you should know that better than anyone. But Eve goes after him hard. Soon all evidence is leading her to him, including a deranged killer (someone from Chaz‘ own sect) who names him as her accomplice. ⬇️

StayCurious Eve struggles with going after him - even Peabody calls her out on it and the two fight. Luckily they make up quickly even though Peabody still can‘t see that Chaz could be responsible. Soon though, Eve starts to doubt the evidence. It‘s too neat and tidy and discounts the loving relationship that Isis and Chaz share.
3w
StayCurious While Eve is staking out Isis‘ shop, she is captured by Selena and her cult. They have plans for her, but luckily are stopped just in time. Surprising no one, they were behind everything.

This book was definitely a spooky one and would have been perfect to read around Halloween. I like the relationships between Eve and her core group. In this book they were sorely tested but they survived and are stronger for it.

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.27-28: ugh. Just when I think I‘m starting to like one of the characters in this book they do something that pisses me off. Like Nick. He was mature and apologized to Liam but then continued to act like an ass. And the whole Africa thing? Without talking to Josie? Please. And I think Liam buying a house on his parents‘ street might be a mistake. They want nothing to do with him or Noah.

Kshakal I have rolled my eyes so many times at these characters!! 3w
LiseWorks I think Nick just wanted Liam's girl since high school. The letter from Nick when Josie was still with Liam in high school really showed his character. And the Africa thing, how controlling is that? 3w
See All 7 Comments
CrowCAH Gosh the Africa Doctors Without Borders was just a d%*k move. Like did he seriously think Josey was going to be okay with uprooting her life and Noah‘s?! Like how much did Nick think she loved him. Not enough to follow him to another continent! 3w
julieclair Well, the whole Africa thing will make it easy for Josie to dump Nick. 3w
TheSpineView I think there is not much Nick will not do to keep Josie. I predict that the harder he pushes the easier it will be for Josie to walk away. 3w
OriginalCyn620 All Nick did with that maneuver was dig his own grave! 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.25-26: well a confrontation btw Liam and Nick was bound to happen. Liam handled it well actually. And Nick was decent to go and apologize. But man, I really dislike Josie. I mean in general, but especially when she gets all cozy with Nick and then has the gall to accuse Katelyn of looking too cozy with Liam. I mean dear lord! I guess we can say these characters are “real” and “flawed”. Geez, they certainly are.

LiseWorks Oh, I wasn't happy with her either. She needs to make a decision, not string both along. 3w
OriginalCyn620 Josie was way over the line about Katelyn and Liam! I agree, Renee, I didn‘t like Josie at all. There was a point where I wanted to scream at Josie to just make a choice-either Liam, Nick, or neither of them! Her back and forth was tiring. 3w
See All 6 Comments
CrowCAH I‘m not sure why Josey even thought Liam would go for Katelyn. Like hasn‘t he made it clear Jojo is the only one for him?! 3w
Roary47 Agreed. @LiseWorks @OriginalCyn620 @CrowCAH Even though Nick was horrible here he‘s already feeling second best. I feel bad for how Josie is treating him. Then Katelyn shut her down real quick. I get that Josie was hurt as a teen, but dang girl if you have baggage from another relationship don‘t get into another one. 3w
julieclair Poor Katelyn. The fact that Josie would even suspect her of this is awful. 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.23-24: ugh. There‘s a feeling in the pit of my stomach. Will Liam and Josie cross the line? I don‘t like cheating and I don‘t like books with cheating. I never look too far into the books we read as a group because I don‘t want too many spoilers. I read alongside you all. And sometimes I pay for that🙄 I hope they stick to the sidelines - at least until she figures out what she‘s doing with Nick.

LiseWorks I'm pretty sure Liam told her it was up to her. Although he sure pushed the limits with her. I think she needs to tell Nick what she wants. I don't like cheaters either. 3w
Roary47 I also don‘t like cheaters. They definitely are dancing on a line. 3w
CrowCAH She sure needs to be honest with herself and who she wants. (As a person who has finished the book, they don‘t cross a line. Everyone breathe easy.) 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.21-22: yikes. Yikes to Liam‘s parents and yikes to Sam. Yeesh - Liam‘s got some toxic people in his life. Also, Josie going to LA on her own without Noah as a buffer is asking for trouble. At least break up with Nick first!

LiseWorks I had a feeling that it was his parents that had him leave, Grandma Betty was mentioned before. And oh boy with Josie going to LA 3w
CrowCAH Gosh keeping secrets is never good. She wanted to go to see Liam. She should just call it off with Nick. 3w
Roary47 This is bad ideas all around. I ended up finishing today so I could see how it panned out. 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch. 19-20: I wonder if they should‘ve told Noah with Nick there. I mean isn‘t he the third parent and shouldn‘t he get a say? I‘m not sure. It‘s an iffy situation all around. I do know that Liam kissing Josie and telling Noah he loves her is going to confuse everyone. And Josie wanting to roll her eyes when Nick says “our son” really says it all. I don‘t think she really loves Nick. I think he‘s been a placeholder.

Kshakal There is no way she truly loves Nick… I see major messiness in our future! 3w
OriginalCyn620 Yep, a sticky situation for sure! I think Josie loved Nick (not in the same way she did Liam) but as soon as Liam came back, she knew somewhere deep down that it was over with Nick. But also, Nick was being a douchecanoe! And really, so was Liam. 3w
See All 7 Comments
LiseWorks There is a lot of jealousy from Nick. It seems that Mason didn't like Nick in high school. It was a touching scene when they told Noah that Liam was his dad. Deep down, she loves Liam still, and she has to accept and let Nick go. There are some little hints that Nick does things that irritated Jose before Liam was on the scene. And sometimes women stay with the man because it's easier. I believe this is the case with Josie here. 3w
CrowCAH I agree with @OriginalCyn620 she never really like liked Nick, second best. And @LiseWorks said it well! 3w
Roary47 You don‘t love him. Let him go! 3w
julieclair I think it was fine for Nick not to be there when they told Noah. But the kissing in front of Noah… not wise. 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.17-18: k, I don‘t like Nick but I‘m also not a fan of Liam being so blatantly flirtatious with Josie. That will just confuse her more than she already is, and will certainly confuse Noah. I‘m glad they‘re going to tell Noah - I do think it‘s the right thing to do. But I think Liam needs to take a step back from Josie - she‘s not free to do what she wants. I mean she‘s engaged to someone else and that should mean something.

OriginalCyn620 I don‘t like Nick but I‘m not really liking Liam either. I feel like I‘m supposed to, but I don‘t! And it is disrespectful for him to flirt with Josie since he knows she‘s spoken for. I think he‘s doing it because he didn‘t like the way he broke things off with Josie and also just because he doesn‘t like Nick. It‘s like he‘s pissy because Josie moved on! 3w
CrowCAH Liam is coming on strong. But Josie is kinda not sticking up for herself either. She‘s going where the wind blows and not setting up boundaries with Liam. Or being faithful to Nick. Liam has always been in the back of her mind. 3w
LiseWorks To me, Josie is setting herself up with Liam. Yes, they should tell Noah, but why the bike ride? If she loves Nick, then don't flirt with any guy. She is asking for trouble. 3w
julieclair She doesn‘t really love Nick. I think she just settled for him. I‘m not a Nick fan, but I do think he‘s being treated unfairly here. 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.15-16: quite a bit to unpack in these chapters. First, if Josie wants to stay back from Liam, listening to his entire music catalogue probably wasn‘t the best decision. Second, I know we don‘t like Nick, but Josie is still being unfair to him. And I think she has been for a while but she didn‘t want to be alone so she keeps him around.⬇️

StayCurious At least she finally acknowledged that Liam should get the right to see Noah if that‘s what he wants. Boy, will that go down well with Nick. 4w
LiseWorks I'm on team Liam. I don't know why he did it. But it seems like he said he tried to talk to her and she made it sound like It's OK, you can talk to coach and he'll take you back. He walked away. I really don't blame him. And he didn't know about Noah. 4w
See All 7 Comments
CrowCAH Gosh yes a bad decision to download and listen to all the albums. She stayed so strong for 10 years and now she broke down and listened. 4w
Roary47 I‘m just glad that Josie is letting Noah know his dad. There is still something in me that wants to hear Liam out. He made a mistake leaving Josie. He admits that. 4w
OriginalCyn620 Again, no communication! Liam started the conversation “that night” but he didn‘t get far at all. And yes, Josie cut in with the comment about the coach, but Liam immediately walking away was him being cowardly. How was Josie supposed to know what he was feeling. She may have her faults but she‘s not a mind reader! 3w
julieclair I am warming a bit to Liam. He sincerely seems to regret the way he handled things 10 years ago. And I think Josie downloaded all his songs because she‘s deep down wanting to be with him again, but she hasn‘t admitted it to herself yet. 3w

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Ch.11-15: it seems like members in Selena Cross‘ cult are dropping like flies. Eve has the wicked witch in her cross hairs but things are complicated when Feeney discovers she‘s hiding things from him. Boy their fight was painful to read and I‘m glad they made up quickly. ⬇️

StayCurious Eve also gets a tip from Nadine that Isis‘ lover Chaz has some pretty serious daddy issues - in that his father is a crazed murderer. So maybe, Eve thinks, Selena isn‘t the guilty party after all. 4w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.13-14: Okay. Fresh day. Fresh outlook. I will read these chapters without getting annoyed at these characters….ugh. Never mind. Liam left because he felt like he couldn‘t follow his dreams? How were Josie and his friends holding him back? Because they had certain expectations for him? I think a lot would have helped if he‘d just talked to them about what he was feeling. ⬇️

StayCurious And Josie getting so mad at Noah for talking to Liam - yeah, that‘s only going to make him more angry when he discovers the truth. I‘m not feeling romantic heartsey vibes from this book but I‘m still interested in how things will play out. Should I be? 4w
Kshakal I am glad these chapters are short because if they weren‘t I might not be able to do it! So annoyed at them! 4w
See All 10 Comments
StayCurious @Kshakal I was thinking the same thing 😆 4w
CrowCAH Yeah his reasoning for leaving is not good enough for me. 4w
LiseWorks I'm waiting for something to happen. I got the feeling that his leaving was because of his parents. Something happened there because he doesn't even want to go see them. And I am so upset with Josie. Why did she get so mad at her son? 4w
StayCurious @LiseWorks I think he just felt pressure from his parents. I don‘t think they supported his new path at all and he probably resents them for it. 4w
Roary47 Ugh. This was not the chapters I was looking for. 💀 4w
OriginalCyn620 I got behind this weekend so I‘m catching up, but there‘s zero communication going on in this book. Can we chalk it up to them being young? Mayne to a point, but it also seems like plain common sense. 3w
julieclair I keep hoping that something really traumatic happened to make Liam leave the way he did, because right now I‘m not liking him much. And I‘m furious with Josie for yelling at Noah. 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.11-12: Still don‘t care for Liam. Until I‘m told otherwise, it seems like he was tired of his charmed life & decided a change was needed. I hate that the people in his life became burdens & were expendable. Even if his parents forced his hand there was a better way to break free. But - Josie can‘t keep Liam and Noah apart unless she gets a handle on what they both want. It‘s not just about her-It needs to be most about Noah

LiseWorks I always feel sorry for the man when they find out they have a kid they didn't know about. I still say there really had to be a good reason for Liam to want to disappear like that. 4w
OriginalCyn620 I do think Josie needs to have a conversation with Noah. It would be so much worse if he finds out the truth from someone else! It doesn‘t seem like that possibility has occurred to her. 4w
See All 6 Comments
CrowCAH I‘m kind of surprised she actually hadn‘t told Noah about her dad. What has she said about Liam this whole time? 4w
Roary47 @LiseWorks I agree there has to be a good reason. I hope… I see them both at fault for this. Plus they still love each other. Noah needs to be in the front of their minds when they make decisions. @OriginalCyn620 I agree that she needs to tell Noah before he finds out. 4w
julieclair Finally had a chance to start this book, and I‘m enjoying reading all the comments. I think Josie needs to tell Noah asap, and also needs to have a serious talk with Liam about allowing him to be in Noah‘s life and her fears that he‘ll disappear and devastate Noah. 3w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.9-10: nuh-no Liam. You don‘t get to act broken hearted. You decided to leave. You made the choice to go. Granted you didn‘t know about Noah but you did know about Josie. So don‘t play the martyr. And Josie: you can‘t NOT tell Noah. He deserves to know who his dad is. Both these characters are irksome.

Kshakal I think I like this book so far but the characters are annoying me at this point! 4w
StayCurious @Kshakal yes! Like I want to see them grow but it needs to start happening 🔜 4w

LiseWorks I read a book for Christmas that was just like this from Nora Roberts lol, I'm getting annoyed that they can't communicate 4w
TheSpineView Liam is acting like a spoiled child. He got his cake with ice too, I might add, and he is complaining he didn't pie! F'in A!!! He made his bed now he has to lay in it 4w
CrowCAH Especially since HE changed his phone number, HE could have reached out to her. I get where she‘s coming from wanting to keep the status quo by not telling Noah, but he‘s at an age where he can figure things out or make his own decisions about Liam‘s character. 4w
Roary47 While the characters are annoying me. I‘m enjoying the ride so far. Still curious why he left. I don‘t think he would have left the only people he cares about. He doesn‘t seem to like the fame at all. He‘s an ogre with layers. 4w
OriginalCyn620 I agree with you all! I too want to know what happened that made Liam leave. And not just leave, but also why he cut everyone out of his life. That‘s the part that‘s bugging me. I‘m guessing his dad had to do with the leaving part, and it better be pretty bad, because then maybe we can justify his behavior! 4w

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.7-8: Hm, I‘m seeing some red flags with Nick for sure. I don‘t like the way he manhandled Josie. Was that the first time or is it a regular occurrence? Do we think Liam was lying when he said he wouldn‘t care if Josie had moved on but seeing that it‘s with Nick pissed him off? I think he would have cared either way. Things are going to get very complicated.

OriginalCyn620 I didn‘t like Nick doing that to her either. Nor did I like Liam getting all pissy that she‘s with Nick now. He has no right to be! It‘s early on, but right now, I kinda want Josie to kick them both to the curb. 😂 1mo
CrowCAH I didn‘t like Nick‘s physical reaction. Uncalled for. I think we‘d all like to think we‘d be okay seeing our true love/ex with someone else, but really we‘d be envious of their situation. And even a bit mad that they didn‘t wait for a love reunion. 1mo

LiseWorks There is no way that I would be able to be with Nick. Manhandling her like that really turned me off. I think Liam might know how Nick is, and of course, they seemed to have not liked each other in high-school, therefore the jealous reaction from both was obvious. 1mo
TheSpineView Nope, don't like Nick. I think he is going to be trouble in the future. 1mo
Roary47 I am on team kick Nick to the curb. Now that Liam knows about Noah he might want him in his life. I‘m glad that the wife of his friend who passed is inclusive. There has to be more there in his leaving. I can‘t see that he would leave them all when he was so happy without a good reason. 1mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.5-6: well I guess cat‘s out of the bag. Do you think she should have tried harder to tell him about his son or did the fact that he changed his number make it clear that he had moved on? If he would‘ve stayed, would he have even been able to go to college with a baby on the way? Would their lives have been very different? I think he would have grown to resent her for holding him back. He seems like that type.

OriginalCyn620 She clearly tried to get in touch, so I‘m Team Josie here. I agree with her that he has no right barking at her and wanting answers. But I do think you‘re right, Renee. If he‘d known and had stayed, he probably would‘ve ended up resenting it and her. Really not liking Liam! 1mo
willaful Sorry, but I'm dropping out. Liam's incessant misogyny is just too much for me. 😞 1mo
See All 7 Comments
CrowCAH I agree, he would still have felt trapped, even if he knew about the baby. It‘s why he left, he wanted to pursue his passion and it wasn‘t the traditional house, wife, and baby story. Sometimes men have to do some growing up before they realize what‘s important. 1mo
LiseWorks And I'm on Liam's team here. Do we really know why he left? No! Something must have happened for him to leave everything, and until I know what it is, I'm sticking with him. Don't tell me that a famous guy like that could not have been reached. She knew what he was doing if he was famous. 1mo
TheSpineView @LiseWorks Not on team Liam; however, I agree that there is something else going on that has not been revealed yet. If Josie had wanted to reach Liam she could have if only through attorneys. Maybe she decided that she didn't want Liam involved with Noah afraid that he would reject them both. Who knows... Maybe this will be revealed layer too. 1mo
Roary47 I‘m sorry @willaful not that you are out. I agree with you on Liam, and will miss your insight. @LiseWorks and @TheSpineView there definitely is something else going on in his reason for leaving everything behind. I‘m here to see if it justifies leaving the only woman he ever loved. His anger at her I feel is unwarranted. Sure famous dude I‘m sure could have been tracked down, but he went out of his way to ghost her. 1mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.3: so when he left, it looks as though he left everything and everyone. What was he running away from? And is he still running?
Ch.4: Do you think Nick knows that Josie still thinks of the past and isn‘t sure about marrying him, despite her best efforts? How must it feel to guess you‘re second place? ⬇️

StayCurious I‘m surprised that Mason‘s wife left an open spot for a pallbearer “just in case” - I‘m surprised she would want Liam involved in the funeral after all this time. 1mo
CrowCAH I do wonder exactly what happened and why Liam ran. Seems a bit drastic to leave everything behind when he had such a tight-night group of friends and a potential career in football. 1mo
See All 10 Comments
LiseWorks This fascinates me. It seems weird that Liam is even going to this funeral. I donalsongrt the impression he doesn't like his lifestyle now. 1mo
OriginalCyn620 First, your meme is on point! 🤣🤣🤣 Secondly, I agree that leaving an open pallbearer spot was odd, giving what we know about the situation. And I‘m with @CrowCAH…why did Liam leave the way he did? Very mysterious and we don‘t have all the pieces of the puzzle yet, but he clearly ran from something or someone. 1mo
willaful Liam continues to be a prime douchecanoe. What an arrogant ass.

Not real impressed with Josie not telling Noah anything about his dad, either, but he is young yet.
1mo
Read4life We are definitely missing key info. Liam says early on that he left the only girl he ever loved and she had a miscarriage two months later. Would he have made different choices if he knew he had a child? Mason‘s wife leaving a place for him, in my opinion, shows she knows how deep Mason‘s love for Liam went & that Liam wouldn‘t let him go without that final goodbye. 1mo
willaful @Read4life The passage is a bit confusing but I think the miscarriage was his manager, not Josie. It's not clear whether he ever knew Josie was pregnant but I suspect not. 1mo
Read4life @willaful Thank you. I‘m listening to the audio so I appreciate the clarification. 🤓 1mo
Roary47 Yes, I believe the manager was the one with the miscarriage. @Read4life @willaful There is mention of his dad and he doesn‘t seem too happy to see his dad. My thought is him leaving has something to do with him. I hope he can be accepted with his friend group again (not that I like his choices at the moment). I‘m glad that she left a spot to carry his friend. That is a great compassion move. 1mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.1. We meet Liam, who‘s definitely not coming across as a great guy. I sure hope he grows on us. But of course he should. This is a romance novel after all and we‘re supposed to like the lead. He‘s about to face his past at the most painful moment when everyone is already raw and emotional. ⬇️

StayCurious Ch.2. Uh oh - Our female protagonist is already in a relationship. I kind of hate that. I mean, in reality, you don‘t think she‘d wait for the guy who walked away and broke her heart. But the romantic in me doesn‘t want a love triangle. I don‘t like that trope. But we‘ll see what happens - it might turn out ok. 1mo
TheSpineView Fantastic! 1mo
See All 8 Comments
willaful Yeah, don't love that... and her kid thinks of him as his father, that seems like it will get very complicated everyone. But I hope the book doesn't turn the new guy into a jerk just to make it easy for her to dump her. 1mo
CrowCAH I agree. I always hope whoever it is waits for their true love to return. Like they can date, but it doesn‘t work out. She‘s engaged! 💍 How will she get out of this situation?! 1mo
Roary47 I‘m also not a fan of the love triangle. I hope it works out for her and her son. Plus I hope Liam warms up on us. I‘m not a fan yet. 1mo
OriginalCyn620 So, I‘m guessing the kid is Liam‘s and he doesn‘t know he‘s a father. Seems that nobody is liking the love triangle but it‘s definitely gonna make things interesting! And yes, I hope Liam gets likable, but for a rock star, his assholery isn‘t surprising. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1mo

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Ch.6-10:
Eve finds herself dealing with good witches and bad witches - as far as she is concerned they‘re all suspect. She meets Isis, the white witch that Alice ran to after her experiences in the dark with Selina. Isis gives Eve a warning and also invites her to their next gathering. Eve and Roarke visit Selina‘s club and speak to Lobar, who confirms her and Alban, her companion‘s, alibi. ⬇️

StayCurious Lobar then winds up dead practically on Eve‘s front lawn. Eve is pissed that she brought evil to their doorstep. She & Roarke also discover Alice‘s brother Jamie has managed to sneak in and he was the one who discovered the body. He claims to have seen other rituals that involved his sister. He wants revenge for her death. Eve tries to keep his involvement quiet. Eve is still warned by her commander to keep Feeney in the dark- this is not easy 1mo
Librarybelle This had some really good but creepy scenes. I‘m really liking this one. 1mo

LiseWorks This one is right up my alley as I like books that deal with witches. I love how skeptical Eve is , Roarke and Peabody are doing the "it doesn't hurt to cover the bases" bit. 1mo
TheAromaofBooks I know in Roberts's romance/romantic suspense she isn't afraid to use supernatural elements, so I'm really interested to see if there is a “science/logic“ answer or if there actually is some black magic at work here. 1mo
StayCurious @TheAromaofBooks I think a lot of it is on how you perceive things. Like Alice thought it was all real and so she was terrified. And they used droids and synthetic feathers to push her over the edge. 1mo

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR BK 5 Ch.1-5: we start off at the funeral of a fellow cop and a close friend of Feeney. While there, Eve meets the man‘s granddaughter Alice who asks Eve for a clandestine meeting. Eve is also tasked by her commander to look into the death of the cop which may not have been an accident. In fact, he might have been into something shady. Eve is put in a really tough spot wherein she has to hide things from Feeney. ⬇️

StayCurious When Eve meets Alice, she hears a horrible story of a youthful foray into Wicca and the dark arts and she hears about an evil witch named Selena Cross. Alice claims Selena is guilty of murder and that she saw a child being killed. Before Eve can look into things further, Alice is struck by a cab - but was it really an accident? What‘s interesting about this one is we know the culprit behind what‘s going on. Eve just has to prove it. (edited) 1mo

#BakerStreetIrregulars Thank you to everyone who revisited this mystery or read it for the first time with us! I‘ve found a new favourite lady detective! I‘ve put together a few discussion questions but feel free to talk about anything you want below: ⬇️

StayCurious Why do you think people, particularly the British, went crazy over Egyptian artifacts in the 1800s? Do you think that all items that were taken from Egypt over the years should be returned? 2mo
StayCurious Amelia is, no doubt, an early feminist. But having money definitely helps her live the way she wants. Do you think that if she hadn‘t inherited her fortune she would have been as free with her thoughts and so determined to live life her way? How did her upbringing develop her personality? 2mo
StayCurious How do you feel about her relationship with Emerson? Has she indeed met her match? Do you think “succumbing to romance” takes away from her feminist power? Or do you feel there is enough mutual respect between them?

What do you feel about the mystery itself? Were you entertained by the events of the book? Would you continue on with the series?
2mo
See All 16 Comments
CatLass007 This was just fun! 2mo
LiseWorks Money talks. But she has a character to be a feminist in any case. Remaining si gle gave her more power, I think she met her match and I was rooting for them. L 2mo
kspenmoll I have just started listening to this because of your posts. Already hooked! 2mo
Sace I didn‘t think the romantic element took away from her feminist power as I felt that there was a lot of mutual respect between her and Emerson. I thought the mystery was fine. I plan to continue with the series. 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement I really enjoyed this, and do plan to continue with the series. I thought the way Amelia wouldn‘t admit to us that she was becoming very fond of Emerson but we could tell anyway, was a fun way to write this. To me, they make a good couple of mutual love and respect. 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement I didn‘t predict the ending, mostly I didn‘t give Alberto enough credit to be a part of anything and had dismissed him completely earlier in the story. 2mo
DGRachel I think Amelia would have the same/similar feminist opinions. Inheriting a fortune gave her freedom to pursue her desires on her terms. I adore her and Emerson. 2mo
DGRachel I‘m not sure why there was such a surge in Egyptological interest in the late 19th/early 20th centuries, but IMO the artifacts belong to Egypt and should be returned. 2mo
CarolynM I think it‘s her upbringing, particularly her education (even though it was informal) that developed her personality, but that was only possible because her father was rich. Inheriting his fortune then enabled her to make her own choices. Her feminism is a large part of her attraction for Emerson, he‘s not interested in taking away her power. 1mo
TheAromaofBooks I loved rereading this one and am planning to work my way back through the rest of the series as well. Amelia and Emerson are a favorite couple of mine - there is so much respect between them for each other's strengths, intelligence, ideas, etc. So often the “strong female“ character means the man ends up being someone who just nods and goes along/is always wrong, but I love how Emerson is also stubborn, loud, and sometimes right as well 😂 1mo
willaful @DGRachel hear here! 1mo
willaful This was a fav when I was young and it was fun to revisit it. I never did finish the series--I felt it got too repetitious--and I'm stunned it got up to 20 books! (Though apparently Peters went back in the chronology a lot at the end, probably so her characters wouldn't get too elderly.)

It would be interesting to see an Amelia without money, because she's so fierce, it's hard not to believe she would have pulled off an independent life somehow.

#LittensLoveRomance: Ch.29-30: how brave Eve is to trust Ethan! That‘s so great and big of her. The better they start off on this rocky road the smoother it‘ll become. And what a birthing experience! I‘m guessing she didn‘t go for the epidural - silly silly woman. Review ⬇️

StayCurious I truly enjoyed this book. The characters were so likeable and they really worked on their flaws. The author worked on this book while she was pregnant with both of her sons and the experiences really seem so real. the conversations were honest and raw and made me feel all the feelings. I almost wished for an epilogue though - just to catch a glimpse of where they get to. (edited) 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement I enjoyed this one too. Eve coming home to her apartment all set up illustrating the loving, supportive community she has for herself and Miriam was beautiful. 2mo

julesG This romance was a breath of fresh air. I especially liked the honest characters and the great character development. 2mo
peanutnine I loved this book! The characters were so real and flawed yet lovable. I agree, an epilogue would have been the perfect cherry on top! I've enjoyed Bastone's other books but she's become an auto read author for me now! 2mo

Roary47 I would have liked an epilogue too, but Ethan‘s story @LiseWorks I love that idea for the same reasons @peanutnine mentioned. 2mo
julieclair I loved this book! I agree with everyone‘s comments - character growth, realistic conversations, epilogue (or even a sequel) needed. It was very fun reading this together. Thanks for hosting, @StayCurious ! 1mo

#IDLR: Ch:16-20: Eve is determined to find her killer and she‘s determined to have that killer be Jess Barrow. True, he‘s a prick who delves too deeply into her and Roarke‘s minds and played games with her and the people she loves - but does that make him a killer? Mira doesn‘t think so and Eve decides to seek a second opinion (how awkward) from Rhianna. But just as she gets the go ahead from Whitney, Eve realizes Rhianna is behind it all. ⬇️

StayCurious Was anyone surprised by this? I was thinking it was both her and William so that was a bit of a surprise, and to think she had no idea about the effects of her experiments on her victims‘ brains. I found this was a very fascinating concept - mind control and the power of suggestion- aren‘t we already seeing hints of that today with advertisers listening in on our conversations through our phones (creepy). ⬇️ (edited) 2mo
StayCurious To think what can come of VR gaming in just a few years is a bit worrisome.

This book places an emphasis on Eve, but we also caught glimpses of Roarke‘s darkness and what he does to keep it at bay. I also liked the strengthening of bonds in this book - btw Eve and Peabody, Roarke and Feeney and Roarke and Mavis. I look forward to more of this relationship building in future books.

Librarybelle I had started to get a little suspicious of Reeanna when the case against Jesse fell apart. It was a good red herring! She just seemed too eager to help. What a scary concept - Roberts/Robb wrote a really good thriller!! 2mo
ShananigansReads I knew Jess was sus when after we first met him Eve and Roarke lost their minds in the car but he didn't seem like he could pull it all off. It took a bit longer to become suspicious of Rhianna but I blamed her right before Eve realized it. This was such a good installment and so scary.when you think of real life implications. I hope this stays on the pages of books but you never know. 2mo
LiseWorks I so agree with the relationship building, and thanks to those members who journeyed with us for this series so far. Can't wait for the next one 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I really love our five chapter/week pace because it means when we get to the final five chapters I can just blaze right through to the end 😂 This one got really intense. With a long-standing series like this, the author keeps introducing various secondary characters so at first I thought Rhianna may be one of those. But when the case against Jess started to fall apart, she seemed a little too convenient. I really liked how this book felt more ⬇ 1mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) futuristic than some of the earlier books, with a murder method that isn't quite within our current society's realm... yet... 1mo

#LittensLoveRomance: Ch.21-22: what a great cathartic hug-fest with Willa. It makes me happy that they‘ve been honest now with each other and are back on track. Although I think Eve feels more for Shep than she let on. It‘s love - not just a crush. Will Willa support her more if she understands it‘s more than just a whim? Is it more than just a whim?

Read4life I was relieved that they had a real talk. I think they both needed to talk and listen to each other. It seemed like they were making assumptions about each other‘s feelings, behaviors, etc because they have known each other so well for so long. 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement Willa sharing about her miscarriage added so much to being able to understand her, and I don‘t fault her for not telling. When people know, they have “helpful” questions/comments and it is too much. Eve admitting to herself that, yeah, she often doesn‘t even know what she wants seems like a really good thing to now know about herself and way overdue. To know yourself, how you generally operate makes life better. 2mo

Roary47 @CogsOfEncouragement I‘m also glad she opened up about it. My heart broke for her all over again. 2mo
julieclair I‘m so glad Eve and Willa cleared the air and were honest with each other. I do think Eve downplayed her feelings for Shep a bit - although maybe she hasn‘t realized or admitted to herself that they are true, deep feelings. 2mo
julesG I agree with you all. It was necessary for Willa and Eve to talk and I'm glad they hugged it out. I'd love to see a happy ending for Willa too. 2mo

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent Ch.19-20: So Mr. Dunkirk actually killed the man that married his (14!) yr old sister - that‘s a bit crazy. Do you guys feel this was a protection of his sister and family‘s honour, or should this be considered murder? An interesting dilemma. And Melody - Oy. What a jealous cow. Sorry for those of you who like cows 🐮

BarkingMadRead Anyone who marries a 14 year old gets what he deserves 🤣 2mo
mcctrish I am amazed that my dislike for Melody continues to grow. She is such a twat! I was a bit shocked to learn Beth had actually married her tutor and I‘m not sure it isn‘t murder. Just because you think the man is beneath your sister ( literally and figuratively 😆) is that grounds to 🔫? (edited) 2mo
See All 13 Comments
StayCurious @mcctrish right? And does the fact that it was in a duel protect him or not…pretty sure duels were illegal too. 2mo
mcctrish Pretty sure Bridgerton says duels are illegal but honour code trumps the law? 2mo
vonnie862 @BarkingMadRead I'm with you, anyone who marries a young girl deserves harsh punishment. 2mo
vonnie862 @mcctrish gosh, me too! I keep disliking her more! And how she read that book without remorse, jeesh! Though I am curious of what that book says, lol. What does Vincent say in it? 2mo
Princess-Kingofkings I can‘t wait for Melody and her mother to go to Bath. They would drive me crazy! I‘m not confident I could remain as nice as Jane. 2mo
willaful I'm curious how he killed someone, even in a duel, and got away with it. Or did he flee the country for a time?

I can see how he wouldn't have looked upon killing him in a duel as immoral, especially given her age. but not telling his sister at the very least was cruel and horrible. Does she even know she's a widow? I guess she must...
(edited) 2mo
julieclair A widow at 14. Unbelievable. In my mind, killing in a duel is murder… although it‘s weird because the victim consented to the duel. So was it really a “suicide by dueling”? 2mo
willaful @julieclair Yeah, I guess that's why I'm uncertain. It was apparently an accepted practice and the person consented. On the other hand, I think Alexander Hamilton was murdered... 2mo
mcctrish @willaful he obviously feels some shame/remorse since he won‘t tell his sister. Does she think she was left? So she‘s internalized she wasn‘t worth it instead of being allowed to be outraged at her brother‘s actions #thesepeoplearenuts 2mo
willaful @mcctrish That would certainly help explain why she's still so ready to be treated badly. :-( 2mo

Hello new #BakerStreetIrregulars - unfortunately @CatLass007 and I have decided to end our group after our April discussion - yes, we are still in our infancy but unfortunately I had to consider all of my groups and commitments on Litsy and in life and some things I‘m unable to give the attention they deserve. Thanks to those who have joined us on what we thought was a fun delve into the many mysteries that are out there.

Librarybelle Thanks for hosting this! I know I just joined up, but it‘ll be fun to discuss this month‘s book with you and @CatLass007 ! 2mo
CatLass007 Thanks, @Librarybelle! It‘s a good idea. All the buddy reads are good ideas. There are just so many, something‘s gotta give. I‘m going to continue exploring the topics on my own as time and finances permit. I‘ll miss the discussions, but I know that Littens are so supportive of one another that discussions will continue informally. 2mo

CogsOfEncouragement I‘m really enjoying this first Amelia Peabody story. I had NEVER HEARD of the series. So I thank you for making me aware. I appreciate you making hard decisions about stepping away from good things in order to properly enjoy other good things. Good example to all of us. 💟 2mo
Read4life I‘m sorry to see this end but I‘m struggling with all of the buddy read groups I‘m in and I don‘t even run any of them. Thank you both for the time you put into this. 💙💙 2mo
julieclair Thank you both, @StayCurious and @CatLass007 , for hosting this very fun group. I often feel like a kid in a candy store with Litsy. There are too many fun things to choose from! But we can‘t do everything, and sometimes real life needs our attention. I applaud your search for balance. 💙 2mo
CatLass007 @CogsOfEncouragement @Read4life @julieclair I‘m glad you‘ve enjoyed #BakerStreetIrregulars. I was dimly aware of the Amelia Peabody series but didn‘t know much at all. I‘m enjoying the first book in the series and I‘m happy to share that the first dozen books in the series are free on Audible. I agree that being a Litten is very much like being a kid in a candy store! My Audible wish list is miles long because of Litsy. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Thank you both so much for hosting - I totally get it on the overcommitments! 😂 @CatLass007 2mo
CatLass007 @TheAromaofBooks Thank you for hosting your buddy reads. Because of Litsy I‘ve gotten to meet many wonderful people. Was your handle once @barkingmadruns? (edited) 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @CatLass007 - No, I've always been TheAromaofBooks Perhaps you're thinking of @BarkingMadRead , who is still active? 2mo
CatLass007 @TheAromaofBooks Wow. I really shouldn‘t try to think and/or write anything unless I‘m fully awake. That is exactly who I meant and since your handles are nothing alike, the only possible explanation is that I was sleep typing.😅 2mo

Hello #Pemberlittens friends! I‘ve made the difficult decision to end our #JaneAdjacent buddy reads starting in May. Or at least to end my role in hosting them. I‘ve found recently that I‘ve overcommitted myself on Litsy and in real life and I need to step back. I‘ve so enjoyed our discussions and the books we‘ve chosen that have brought us back into Jane‘s world. If anyone is interested in taking up the mantle, you have my blessing!

mcctrish It‘s so easy to do. I‘m so sad but I‘m so happy I got to hang out with you for a brief while 2mo

BarkingMadRead Awwwww that‘s a bummer, but I totally get it! If I wasn‘t already hosting a couple others I would take it over! 2mo
Sace While I was not part of the reading I totally understand the Litsy overwhelm! There are so many fabulous activities here and it‘s hard not to overdo. 2mo
Librarybelle Thank you for hosting this! I completely understand - I can barely keep up with all of the activities I‘m hosting and participating in. It‘s been a lot of fun. ❤️ 2mo
Bookwormjillk Thanks for hosting! 2mo
peanutnine Totally understand! Thanks for hosting for so long, we read some great books as a group ☺️💕 2mo
Gissy So sad but understandable. I‘m always behind in my readings so I will spend these months to read all your recommendations😃Enjoy your reading time and enjoy🤗Thank you so much for hosting all these buddy reads 🥰♥️♥️♥️ 2mo
willaful It's been really fun! I hope you can find more balance in your life; it's so easy to take on too much here! 2mo
CatLass007 You do you. You have done an awesome job hosting this and so many other buddy reads. ❤️ 2mo
IndoorDame Thanks for taking this on for so long. You‘re awesome! I‘m glad you‘re looking out for yourself ❤️ 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement I have great appreciation for the fun way you host, as well as deep respect for this decision. 💟 2mo
rubyslippersreads I‘m sad it‘s ending, but happy that I‘ve learned of so many wonderful #janeadjacent books. Thanks for being such a great host. ❤️ 2mo
julieclair This has been a wonderful ride and I will miss it. But I totally get the overwhelm. I, too, suffer from what my husband calls “overcommitment syndrome “. 🙃 Thank you for the time, effort and heart you have put into hosting us. 😍🥰 (edited) 2mo
CrowCAH Thanks you so much for heading up the buddy reads! 😘 Totally understandable about commitment; lots of book clubs! Take it easy! 2mo
quietjenn Thanks for all you've done! Take care of yourself. 2mo
daena Thank you so much for all you‘ve done! 2mo
SarahBookInterrupted You did a great job so thank you for all the reads and congratulations on taking care of you! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I definitely get it!! Thank you for all the work you've put in on this little group - we've had some great reads together!! 2mo
CatLass007 @BarkingMadRead Did you change your handle while I was on hiatus from Littens? Did you used to be @BarkingMadRuns? 2mo
BarkingMadRead @CatLass007 I used to be BarkingMadRun but I can‘t run anymore so i changed it 2mo
CatLass007 I get that. If running is something you enjoyed, then I‘m sorry you can‘t run anymore. But you must be pretty memorable since I was off Litsy for about three years. 2mo
Larkken Thank you for hosting as long as you did! I found some really fun books through this group - even if I also often overcommit to joining groups.🥰 I hope you find some breathing room! 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @StayCurious After I finished hosting last's years #JaneAndTheExcellentReadAlong both here and on Instagram, I hadn't planned on continuing. But if you're good with it, I'll use the #JaneAdjacent tag and start sharing for any #PemberLittens who are interested. 2mo
StayCurious @Crinoline_Laphroaig absolutely! That‘s totally fine with me 💜 2mo

#LittensLoveRomance: Ch.17-18: I‘m glad we got to see pregnant dragon lady come out with that jerk Eve ran into. The nerve of him to say those things! I love that she had a little saviour in that old lady. Eve needs to open herself up to the possibility of Shep and be honest with him about what she‘s feeling. It‘s obvious he‘s feeling something too. Friends are not usually so cozy cozy. And now she thinks she loooooooves him - that‘s a big deal⬇️

StayCurious But oh wait, Ethan comes back and he‘s been under lock and key. Geez man - that‘s a toxic relationship you‘ve got going there. Yeesh. Wake up and smell the fresh air of freedom. And stop living someone else‘s life and start living your own! (edited) 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement Eve ripping into Jeff was so satisfying and then that feisty woman having her back was the cherry on top. It really seems like Ethan should not be with Eleni whether he got Eve pregnant or not, crickey. 2mo

OriginalCyn620 @CogsOfEncouragement I agree with you 💯 2mo
LiseWorks I'm glad Eve made Ethan realize that maybe the relationship he has is not good for him. She seems a bit controlling. 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement Also, I get why Eve doesn‘t trust herself to make a big move with Shep right now. And I LOVE that she made a decision to be happy when he is happy - to actively make him happy. Superb decision. 2mo
Read4life I agree with all of those points @CogsOfEncouragement 💙 I like that we‘re seeing Eve speak up and make decisions she believes will make her happy. 2mo
julieclair I‘m glad Ethan found the courage to sneak out and visit Eve. But my goodness gracious, why can‘t he see that he needs to ditch Eleni? 2mo
julesG Ethan needs to get out of the relationship, or Eleni needs a reality check. Either way it's toxic right now. Team Eve and Shep. Can they please get together? 2mo
Roary47 I agree @CogsOfEncouragement Eleni is bad news. Plus finally we see firey Eve. The older woman is my hero. Just talk to Shep already. 🤩 2mo
Graciouswarriorprincess I hope that Ethan dumps Ellen and I loved the feisty woman! Eve just needs to admit to herself and Shep that she loves him. 2mo

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent Ch.15-16: so glamour is used to hide - certainly in the case of Lady Fitzcameron. It hides her true financial status and in the case of her daughter hides her physical flaws. It‘s clear that Mr. Vincent hates working for her - having to use his art for her gains. What a shame. But I think that has often been the case for artists and their patrons. ⬇️

StayCurious So now Melody is off to Bath, probably to find Captain Livingston. Jane is right - someone needs to watch them in Bath. But I think Jane is fed up with it always falling to her. 2mo

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Sorry for the late post! Ch.11-15: Still convinced there is a connection between the suicides, Eve is even more certain once she comes face to face with a woman who kills herself right in front of her. Eve knows this woman was somehow coerced and begins to worry that it‘s a VR unit that Roarke manufactured that is the culprit. But how can such a thing be possible? ⬇️

StayCurious When she asks Roarke he has no idea if it can be done but insists he didn‘t do this. So who did? At Mavis‘ big party, Roarke gets coerced into hurting Eve, something he would never do in his right mind - it rings too true to the suicides. Eve realizes it was Jess and his music console that were behind what happened to Roarke. And both she and Roarke want blood. We don‘t know exactly what Roarke does to Jess behind closed doors. ⬇️ 2mo
StayCurious I doubt we want to know. We see a dark part of Roark that he mostly keeps hidden. But can Eve pin the murders on Jess? (edited) 2mo
See All 7 Comments
Librarybelle Yeah…we probably don‘t want to know what Roarke did! 2mo
LiseWorks Considering what Roarke went through with his Dad and what he had to do living in the streets in Ireland, i think we know what he did before. But somehow, I don't think Jess is the mastermind behind this. 2mo
willaful I think Jess is too obvious. Someone is using him, maybe.

That was a really disturbing scene. I find it hard to believe Eve wouldn't have been a lot more upset than she was, especially with her history.

Also not loving the cops covering for each other. Hits too close to home.
2mo
CatLass007 @willaful I also found Eve‘s reaction to being sexually assaulted in a closet by her own husband unbelievable. If Roarke was influenced by Jess, is it possible that Eve was influenced by Jess also? 2mo

#LittensLoveRomance: Ch.15-16: Ethan is entitled to his feelings - but the baser part of me is shouting he‘s a coward! I can‘t believe he hasn‘t checked in with her!? But Shep brought her groceries and these two need to get together so bad! Not just for Eve‘s state of mind - but for mine. Also - only having 12 weeks of maternity leave is so hard - I‘m sorry for any new mom that loses out of extra recovery time and time with their baby.

LiseWorks It is about time that she decides to go to stores for stuff for the baby and to let people know she is expecting. It's like she finally realized this baby is real and is coming fast. Ethan got scared!. 2mo
julesG To me(!) 12 weeks maternity leave sounds like too little and a lot. But that's just because when I had child #1 I was self-employed and hated the mandatory maternity leave (here in Germany: 6 weeks before the due date plus 8 weeks after the birth) - this meant not earning, but having expenses for 14 weeks at least. Anyway, I agree, Eve might want to tell people soon and get ready for the baby. As for Ethan, I can only offer 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
See All 10 Comments
Graciouswarriorprincess @StayCurious I was screaming at Ethan too. I am not sure if he is confused about what to do or a coward but probably both. Poor Eve trying to figure this out and 12 weeks is so little time. 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement I‘m so happy Eve is making pregnant friends, especially Marla at work. We got the scoop on Heather and Shep. She was incredibly good to him when he still needed her. He seems like a guy who deserves that kind of treatment too, he would have done the same. 2mo
OriginalCyn620 @Graciouswarriorprincess @CogsOfEncouragement I agree with you both! It‘s like Eve was waiting around for Ethan to offer up guidance and companionship through the wild journey that is pregnancy. I‘m glad she finally realized she doesn‘t need Ethan for that. 2mo
julieclair I‘m so disappointed in Ethan. Ghosting her at this point is so wrong. 2mo
StayCurious @julesG it‘s interesting how different things are depending on where you live and what your situation is. I was lucky enough in Canada to have 14 months off - with 6 months paid from my work (which I know is amazing). But the rest of the time with a chunk of my salary gone and having to afford formula and diapers and everything else - it was a lot. 2mo
julesG If you're employed (not self-employed or a freelance) you get a year of maternity leave and you still get your salary every month (the company will be recompensed). I could enjoy this perk with child #2. 2mo
Roary47 For all three of my pregnancies I had a leave bank I earned. I was able to be paid for about 4-5 weeks with the bank (varied with each) and then could still take more with FMLA, but because I didn‘t have hours in the bank I wouldn‘t be paid. I just took the minimum required amount of 6 weeks. Pregnancy feels slow, but it goes so fast for others. I want to think that Ethan is figuring out things or working extra hours to provide her funds. 2mo

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent Ch.13-14:
Poor Mr. Vincent, to feel obliged to his patroness Lady FitzCameron so that he overtaxed himself nearly to the point of death. And to think she won‘t feel even a glimmer of guilt over it. And then, there‘s Melody. It‘s obvious she‘s talking of captain Livingston. Ooh, what a pig he is! He‘s probably got all sorts of secret engagements with all sorts of girls.

willaful Starting to get more of a “Sense and Sensibility“ vibe now, though also some “Emma.“ It would be more interesting if it *isn't* Livingston, but it certainly seems the most plausible. I'm surprised Jane didn't immediately see it, but she doesn't expect people to behave that badly. 2mo
BarkingMadRead @willaful I was definitely getting Frank Churchill vibes at first, but now I‘m getting Willoughby vibes. Either way, I don‘t trust Livingston at all! 2mo

mcctrish I can absolutely hear Ron Swanson uttering those lines. Captain Livingston is giving me Sir Edward Denham from Sanditon vibes ( in fact that‘s who I picture) melody continues to be insufferable just like her mother 2mo
willaful It was interesting to see that magic *does* have some uses in their society. I wonder what else we don't know about yet. 2mo

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent Sorry for the late post! Ch.9-12: what an interesting character Vincent is! I‘m not quite sure what to think of him - and neither is Jane. I worry about Captain Livingston and Melody doing something silly. Not sure what yet…but he spends more time with her then is proper I think and Melody loves the attention. And then to find out he is secretly engaged to Beth! What a cad! ⬇️

StayCurious Poor Jane. To be tempted to use glamour to change her appearance. I understand - but I think it‘s a dangerous path to take. Besides - everyone would know what she was doing, just like with Miss Fitzcameron. But hearing mean comments at the dinner, that had to hurt. Poor Vincent-I wonder how often people die or become ill overdoing glamour. clearly Lady Fitzcameron didn‘t care about his health. He‘s like a toy she gets to display at her whim. 2mo
Librarybelle I feel bad for Jane. 2mo

vonnie862 Ooh I sense drama unfolding! Mr. Livingston is a cad! 2mo
willaful Honestly, I was just feeling like the book was dragging and something had better *happen*. I'm not used to fantasy being so plotless, and surely there's some actual uses for their magic besides entertainment? 2mo
Princess-Kingofkings I wish Jane thought more of herself. I was excited that she chose to be concealed until I saw it create more concerns for her. 2mo
StayCurious @willaful I‘m with you - it is slow. And I was starting to wonder, how is there a series of like 6 books when I can‘t see there being much story to stretch. I hope more happens with the magic. I‘m interested in Vincent‘s background. 2mo
mcctrish Well we‘ve got a 🎶you love her but she loves him and he loves somebody else, we just can‘t win 🎶 situation unfolding. Someone needs to intervene on Beth‘s behalf cuz Livingston just lost her allowance. Vincent loves Melody?! Livingston can have Melody, they both suck! 2mo
DebinHawaii @mcctrish I agree Beth is too sweet & good for Livingston. He & Melody are better suited as they both seem to be users & losers! 😠 2mo
BarkingMadRead Ugh I think Livingston is using Beth for her money, and I think Vincent put Jane in that painting, even though she looks like Melody. It reminds him of their Tableau together, and in the tableau she looked like Melody 2mo
julieclair @BarkingMadRead ooohhh… interesting thought about it really being Jane in the tree painting. I do believe Vincent is in love with Jane. 2mo
BarbaraJean @BarkingMadRead I thought the same about the “her” in the tree being a reference to Jane instead of Melody. In spite of his brusqueness, Mr. Vincent seems to truly respect and appreciate her. Mr. Dunkirk seems to as well—it‘s frustrating that Jane doesn‘t see those signs because she‘s too insecure—and because she keeps comparing herself to Melody. 2mo
