It has been many, MANY years since I last read Silas Marner. This will be an interesting reread.
Maia returns to the island where she wrote her first book, met & lost a great love, & still holds the secrets of her parents. When her host is found dead, it‘s up to her & the other residents to find out what is happening before the next victim falls.
Quite a ride! Loved all the Greek mythology references, the mystery kept me guessing, & feminine rage bleeds through the whole novel. Maia was a lot bit more relatable than I expected!🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
My favorite in the Rivers of London series. And y‘all my flight to London leaves on Friday and I am so excited!
The suitcase is packed, the itinerary is planned, I am ready! 🛫
#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day, and remember to tag me in your posts!
Ava thinks going back to her retail job after breaking up w/ a coworker is going to be hell. & then both of them are voluntold to rescue a lost customer through a multidimensional wormhole. Should be easy, right?
Such fun! We get clear views of who Ava & Jules are, & then wacky adventures! Such world building for such a short novella. A bit more ambiguous ending then I usually prefer, but I‘ll hope that‘s because there will be a sequel.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
When Toto & his human Dorothy are swept away in a tornado, he was not expecting a land of magic, political feuds, & revolution. Being a Good Dog was going to get him taken away by Animal Control, so it‘s time to see what a Bad Dog can do.
I laughed out loud so much. A modernized retelling, poking fun @ a lot of tech bro culture & far right wing masculinity, while also providing loving references to the wide spread cultural impact of Oz.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
The story of 3 generations of indigenous Hawai‘ian women, & the legacy of colonization, familial trauma, & secrets.
Such a powerful story. The real history of the overthrow of the Hawai‘ian govt & societal violence forced upon the indigenous population is masterfully woven w/ a story about coming to terms w/ legacy & future, while also paying homage to the beautiful tradition of hula dance. POV & phonetic accents takes getting used to.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
Happy #WeirdWordWednesday ! #WeirdWords
This one‘s one of my favorites. @CBee

Stella & Nick have joined their engaged friends at a Mexican resort to celebrate their wedding. Everything would be perfect, if the gossipy older lady also @ the resort hadn‘t unexpectedly dropped dead.
This was charming! Stood on its own okay, I loved the friendships between all the characters, the mystery was just twisty enough w/ lots of plausible red herrings, & the ending really surprised me! I also really enjoyed the setting. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Really looking forward to starting A Taste of Gold and Iron and Finna this week!

Some really interesting reads this past week!
For Lara‘s gap year, she decides to get a job aboard a luxury train. The trip across Europe is supposed to give her a clean slate. Instead, there‘s a confrontation w/ an old friend & train cars full of mysterious plants.
Gotta love some plant horror! The creepy factor was really well done, the characters were interesting, & the ending made me gasp out loud. But the flashbacks really killed the momentum, & the romance felt unnecessary. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
I‘ve had specifically the tagged book for years on a recommendation from a cousin, because she thought I‘d like the author. And I just haven‘t gotten to it yet! It‘s just sitting there, waiting for me. 😅

Leftover Gruyère and Irish cheddar cheese and leftover bacon = scones ❤️

#BookSpin breath of Earth, #DoubleSpin A Witch‘s Guide to Magical Inkeeping
#Roll100 Final Harvest, A Kingdom Strange, Breath of Earth
#OokBOokClub Feet of Clay (one of my favorites!)
#BobWhiteBuddies Mystery on the Mississippi
#BeyondTheYellowBrickRoad The Scarecrow of Oz and Rinkitink in Oz
#QueerBC Finna
#ThematicCozies Foul Play at La Playa
How exciting! My #BookSpin read is also a #Roll100 book! And my #DoubleSpin is my buddy read with a friend!
Guns are invented on the Disc, & we can all agree it‘s a terrible idea. & while the City Watch begins its own DEI initiative, there are mysterious murders, & a lost heir. & Angua! ❤️
I don‘t know if this would have hit as hard in a reread if I had read it last year. A powerful examination of racism & prejudice, the benefits of a diverse workforce, & what kind of people call for a monarchy made for a very interesting experience in 2025. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
When Betsy & Hank the mule fall overboard in a storm, they have no idea they‘ll join up w/ the Shaggy Man rescuing his brother, a lost daughter of the Rainbow, & a small army intent on conquering Oz.
I had forgotten a lot of this 1! The army of Oogaboo is just ridiculous, Polychrome & Betsy are a joy, we get to meet a dragon, & the Nome king makes a dastardly reappearance. So does the Love Magnet, & I really wish they would lose that. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Sue Black, a Scottish forensic anthropologist, uses the areas of the body to explain the process of using human remains to piece together the life & death of an individual.
This was a fascinating read! Definitely for any fans of Bones. Black is empathetic while discussing some truly horrific scenes, while also providing in depth (if a little too dry) academic knowledge at the same time, so there‘s a bit of tonal whiplash. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Almost done with my second #JuneOfARC read! And got to start the #OokBOokClub book today!
My July #ThematicCozies pick! This one‘s got such a fun cover I couldn‘t resist! @julieclair
Sophy & Vyerin have come together to search for their missing siblings. While E & Henery are acclimating to the new world they find themselves in. All of them will need to work together in the face of a threat to their entire world.
A fantastic conclusion to this duology! A lovely ace romance, all the characters I loved from 1, plus new characters, & an ending that really surprised me. A little slow & a little info dump heavy at times.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
This one. This one made me really reexamine a lot of things I thought I knew, and started me on authors like Angela Y Davis and Patrisse Khan-Cullors.
#SundayFunday I hope you all are staying safe and healthy and happy today, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts.
On the run from a controlling/abusive father, Lark finds refuge w/ humanity‘s greatest enemy. She‘s drafted to help protect the city w/ her magical control over fear from monsters. A romance, an enemy within, & an approaching army make finding a home more difficult.
I wanted to like this. The world building was interesting, but everything seemed so shallow. The romance, the magic, the people. I just wasn‘t invested in anything. 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
The discovery of an old letter hidden in the Belden‘s attic leads the Bob-Whites on the trail of a lost necklace & an old plantation house. But they‘re not the only ones seeking the emeralds.
Such fun, & not just because I‘ve also traveled to Williamsburg & Virginia plantations. It‘s also a fun mystery with secret passages, friends working together, drama, & redemption. Some ableist language for a wheelchair user, but not too bad.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
The young Munchkin Ojo is on a quest to save his beloved uncle. With friends like Scraps the Patchwork Girl, the Glass Cat, & the Shaggy Man, he will travel across Oz to save his family.
I feel so weird about this. I love Ojo, Scraps, & the Glass Cat. But reading this now, I don‘t like Ozma‘s banning of magic except for Glinda & the Wizard, & I really don‘t like the final treatment of the Glass Cat or the Wizard Ex Machina at the end.🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑
When Maddie‘s cat cafe is invited to a literary festival, she‘s thrilled. W/ the debut of her mobile cafe, networking w/ famous authors, & sister Val‘s wedding all coming up, life‘s looking great. & then the guest of honor is found stabbed.
This was a lot of fun! A lot of good red herrings, a fun cast. A few too many characters, but I really enjoyed Maddie‘s community & the relationships she had w/ her crew. Definitely want more! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

I am so thrilled to be diving into the Patchwork Girl of Oz! I love Scraps and I love the Glass Cat! 💕

Forgot to post this last night! I finished three ARCs in the past week! 🎉🎉
In 1863, Jules Verne wrote a novel of a future Paris. A Paris where the writers & artists are forgotten, & all is done in service of industry & money. & poor Michel is a poet just trying to survive.
This felt just so very sad. Full marks for the terrifyingly accurate predictions of industrialization, the sanitation/devaluation of entertainment, & the rise of capitalism. Stars taken away for a dull plot & really uninteresting characters.🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
Murdock & her team have been imprisoned in an enormous former warship that‘s run by an AI with delusions of godhood. It‘s going to take everything she has to get them all out safely.
A breakneck story! I really enjoyed the world building, & the story kept the tension at just the right place. I didn‘t really feel for the romance, & the ending felt rushed & haphazard. I‘d read a follow up if I can get more of the secondary characters.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Fantasy. I learned to read with fantasy books, my dad read fantasy to me and my sisters every night growing up. Fantasy is baked into my very foundation. ✨
#SundayFunday Have a great day everyone, and don‘t forget to tag me!
After escaping his abusive father, Charl & his mother find refuge in a small town. Life becomes more complicated when a dragon comes into town hunting them, a plague sweeps through, & Charl can suddenly see ghosts.
Lovely.I was enraptured & felt angry when I had to stop reading to go back to work. I adore Hartman‘s world building. Charl was a wonderful protagonist. He acts his age, but is also kind. Need to dive back into the world.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
Vivian hopes that things will finally calm down at the Nightingale. & then a mobster from Chicago comes poking around the club, & mysteries from her own past come knocking @ her door.
This was gorgeous & what I wanted from a finale. I really love the lush setting of a 1920s speakeasy, the casual diversity of the cast, & the relationships between everyone. The stakes were much higher here & so tense, but it all resolved satisfactorily. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
An in depth exploration on introversion in a world that currently values extroversion.
This was fascinating! A lot of information, along with personal anecdotes made this an interesting read. I wish I had found this book when I was in high school when I was absolutely convinced I was broken in some way, because I was so introverted. There‘s value in how we see the world. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Benny, trying to find a place for himself in NYC, instead finds himself helping a Coney Island sideshow capture a merman. Only, when he starts connecting w/ the merman, Benny must decide what his new family is worth.
I really enjoyed this! It‘s a very slow start, setting up all the fun side characters & the show, but it‘s worth it when the plot really kicks in. & NYC was such a fantastically detailed setting. I did predict the twist. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Using all sorts of resources, from DNA testing to old translations of Homer‘s epics to archaeological ruins, Hauser recontextualizes the women of the Iliad & the Odyssey within history.
As a recovering Greek mythology obsessive elementary kid, I really appreciated seeing all the ways that there is historical evidence behind the characters. Maybe not these specific women, but similar enough. A little dry sometimes, but very informative!🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
