Was interested in this after reading that it was a major influence on the original Matrix movie. And like the first few times I saw The Matrix, I didn‘t grasp all of it, but I did understand it well enough that I wasn‘t totally lost! Definitely see how groundbreaking it was when it was published in 1984. I‘m glad I read it!

Liking this series! When the best man is murdered at a high profile wedding, amateur sleuth Siobhán O‘Sullivan flies into action to help solve the case. There was a good cast of characters, not all likeable, but entertaining, and the killer was a surprise to me! Plus, I just love hearing the Irish accents on audiobook. ☘️

This seems to be an #unpopularopinion, but this didn‘t do it for me. This is another character-driven book where not much happens. It‘s just a bunch of privileged or bohemian people doing a lot of drugs and having a lot of sex. I need plot! Or some semblance of a plot. I would‘ve bailed but was reading this for #pop24, a book about a 24 year-old. I‘m just glad it‘s over.

I watched Happy Days as a little girl and had a crush on the Fonz, and I‘ve enjoyed some of Henry‘s other work as well. This is a joy to read and he is such a great storyteller! I devoured this is one sitting - Henry kept me interested with stories about the highs and lows of his career, his struggles with dyslexia, and his home life growing up. Definitely recommend if you‘re a fan!

TheAromaofBooks I struggled with this one because of the fact that they actually did murder the guy through neglect! I have a genuine (if completely irrational haha) fear of suffocating/being buried alive so I was HORRIFIED that that was the way he died. I wish she had just had him die in the car wreck and the whole book would have been better for me. WHY DID NO ONE CHECK HIS PULSE FOR REAL!?!? 6d

Loved it! I‘m not a huge sci-fi girl but this is my 2nd Weir book (also loved The Martian) so maybe I just love his sci-fi. Just a great read!

#bookspinbingo
#pop24 - book set in space

ChaoticMissAdventures I think it is the humor he throws in, and the focus on the characters. I loved the 2 you mentioned but was really let down by his other novel. You might enjoy Becky Chambers she has a similar scifi style to her series 2w
OriginalCyn620 @ChaoticMissAdventures Definitely love his humor! I‘ve not heard of that series but I‘ll have to check it out sometime! 2w
TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed this one and The Martian. But like @ChaoticMissAdventures I wasn't a huge fan of Artemis. Weir did NOT do a good job writing a female POV lol A scifi series that I really enjoyed was the Aurora Cycle. Mainly because I need my scifi to have some snarky humor 😂 2w

18 y/o Bel and her family are the subject of a documentary, centering around her mother‘s disappearance 16 years ago, an unsolved mystery. As the title states, her mother reappears, alive and well, upending Bel‘s life as she knows it. HJ does a great job of casting doubt on all the characters, and I never knew who to trust, or even WTH was going on until close to the end…but in a good way! The last 1/4 was very twisty!

Really liked this one, although the gender unfairness absolutely pissed me off! Of course, that was the whole point, and I think the author did a good job of portraying that. Yeah, this one didn‘t do it for me. Right out the gate, Liam, the MMC, acted like an entitled prick and never got much better. And there was zero communication between him and JoJo, the FMC. #unpopularopinion here, but I was mostly bored with this. I appreciate that Hughes puts the reader in the mind of a serial killer, how she made the LA fog feel like a character, and this definitely had strong noir vibes. And the writing itself is fine. It just seemed like the whole book was the MC was driving around, eating, drinking, and obsessing over his bombshell neighbor. The killings were in the periphery-just not a lot of action.
