Not much of a weekend as I was doing work projects most of it but I did manage to make soup for lunches & for my #soupersundays blog post. It's Mark Bittman's yummy Garlicky Bean Soup with just a few simple ingredients--recipe link is below. I also started this #ARC for a book tour review this week.

Finally I am starting this #ARC for review, set in Singapore. Feeling very global this Sunday. ?

My library #bookhaul from earlier today. I checked out three veg-friendly meat-free cookbooks from the new-ish section & bought the two books on top at the half-price sale at the library bookstore. Both books got mixed reviews on Litsy, but they are in perfect condition & I love the covers, & on sale it was just $1 for both so if I don't like them, it's not a big loss.

Finished this week, my first by this author i I was interested due to its inspiration of the true-life Slender Man case where 2 12-year-old girls stab another girl to impress an urban legend. It takes some different turns that kept me guessing but some of my attachment to the characters was diluted because of the many POVs. Still I liked it & would read another. Paired with a Cheese Pizza (made Keto with extras) for my book tour review. Links👇🏻

I read many Pride and Prejudice variations & while reading, I often wonder what Jane would think. I think she would have loved this one. All of the witty observations of the original, but set in Pakistan, it verges away from the original story just enough & had me smiling & even laughing out loud. I borrowed the library e-book but enjoyed it enough to want a print copy for my Austen shelves & I feel the need to rewatch my Bride & Prejudice DVD.🤗

How I have missed you Avocado Toast!! 🥑🍞💚 A quicker stop than I'd like at my neighborhood coffee shop, but there's an orchid & plant sale going on outside & it's insane here this morning. Buttermilk Graffiti has to go back today & it tells me online it can't be renewed, so just in case I used an audible credit for the audiobook to finish up & I'm taking pics of the recipes I might want to make for my virtual foodie book club. Happy Saturday!☀️

WWII fiction is already a favorite of mine & even better when set here in Hawaii. Ackerman's second book focuses on Eve, a nurse, escaping her past in Michigan by sailing to Hawaii for an Army Corps post at Trippler Hospital on Oahu in the days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The author does a fantastic job illustrating the dichotomy of the beauty of the island & the ugliness of war. Romance, history & intrigue. Giving a copy away, details👇🏻

This was a last year audio listen, but back then it wasn't in the Litsy database so I didn't review it. I just finished the second book in the Mystic Bayou series & this is the first. Harper writes such fun, snarky female characters that it makes me want to head to The Rift & get some shifter mojo myself. 😉A fun & funny listen, the narrators do a great job bringing the MCs, Jillian & Bael to life, along with Zeb, the focus of the second book.

From last week's book tour but I remain behind in posting. I quite enjoyed this debut novel about three friends who meet at West Point in 2000 & form strong bonds before their lives pull them in different directions. Paired with my recreation of a meal shared by Dani, Hannah & Avery in the book. Link👇🏻

I love books about books & this one was an endearing & easy read. Martha is a isolated library volunteer & a people pleaser/doormat--always overdoing for others while life passes her by until a battered book of fairy tales has her seeking answers about her family & herself. Mehso-so

I realized that although I broke the rules with #90sSpringFling & talked about Fight Club, I didn't review it. A so-so as it's not the book for me--too grossly wacko, but I think Palahniuk shows some demented brilliance in especially the twist. My e-book's afterward about fight clubs in culture was fascinating. I never would have read it except for the #buddyread but now I want to watch the movie full on instead of the parts/pieces I saw before.

Cinfhen I think the movie is better!! The ambiguity of the book flows better on film. But it was still wacko and too violent and I think somewhat juvenile too. Thanks for joining in on discussion. It helped me appreciate the book way more. 2mo

From earlier this week. WWII historical fiction is my jam & I enjoyed this YA novel set in San Fran & the Manzanar Relocation Center. Italian-American Evaline's relationship with Japanese-American Taichi was difficult enough before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor & now with his family sent to Manzanar, it seems impossible. Written for YA readers, but it works for adults too. With Grilled Eggplant w/ Orange-Miso Sauce for my book tour review. Link👇🏻

#90sSpringFling. It was about the coffee in this pic, the only one I had available-circa '94, when I was a SBUX store manager & on the 'Star Team' to open/transition Boston. Not what I'd wear to the spring dance, but I did love that sweater-even though I'd worn it for about 24 hours when I went from PDX to Boston, but my luggage went from PDX to Peoria.😬Luckily my roommate on the far right loaned me a fresh tee-shirt for the opening party...

Finished last weekend before it was due back at the library. Very quick & very quirky (OK, weird) ?book where the MC, Keiko, has worked in a Japanese convenience store for the past 18 years, using its rules & routine to make her act & feel "normal"-although at 36 with no marriage & kids, in a dead end job-she is anything but normal to her concerned family & friends. Yesterday's library haul of books I won't be able to finish but had to check out. I went to pick up my hold of The Water Cure & the tagged book grabbed my attention as I have a thing for books about women who choose to live in the wilds. Preserving by the Pint is a cookbook I have been wanting to read. The Tagalongs (my favorite Girl Scout cookie) were acquired after the library when I was grabbing groceries. I have to have at least one box! 🍪😍

This week's#audiosouping is actually the 2nd book in the Mystic Bayou series but wasn't in Litzy's database. Come to think of it neither was this one when I listened to it last year.🤷🏼‍♀️It's a cute & funny listen so far, as most of Harper's books are. Bubbling away is Yotam Ottolenghi's Adas Bil Hamoud (Sour Lentil Soup) with lentils, potatoes, & rainbow chard stems; chard leaves & LOTS of lemon to be added. Finished soup pics to come. 🍲❤️

Bookartbookmarks Molly Harper is an author I‘ve wanted to read, but never have. You might have convinced me! 3mo

I liked the premise of a beautiful yet possibly 'evil' golden dress tying 2 eras (1765 & 2015) & 3 POVs together, but 320 pages wasn't quite enough to develop the characters & dive into the history. Not the best book I've read lately yet still a pick for the idea, creep factor, suspense & historical mystery/Gothic/horror mix. Paired with an Easy Avocado Caprese Salad inspired by one made by a character in the book for my book tour review. Link👇🏻

My finished Cream of Watercress Soup (potatoes, onions, watercress & coconut milk instead or cream) served with Hot Pepper Toasts (Sriracha-Tabasco butter 😋) was lunch & is on the blog for #soupersundays.🍲 Pictured with my current read, an #ARC (historical fiction with some mystery) for a book tour review later in the week.

Yeah, I had to finish... 🤷🏼‍♀️
I'm sorry this series is over but I think this book was a fitting end to a series that I've enjoyed. The ending brought smiles & a few tears as it's hard to let go after 13 books with Charley Davidson & Reyes & company, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Darynda Jones does with some of these characters next as it is set up well for spin-offs. Lorelei King did her usual excellent.narration.
🤗😥😅😱📚

The dilemma--finish up the last hour or squeeze it out #audiosouping with it one more week? I think I have to keep listening to find out what happens because I've already teared up a few times & the end is getting good. This week's soup is a retro (1958) Gourmet Magazine recipe for Cold Cream of Watercress Soup, only I am making it vegan & probably eating it hot--it's still cool here. Finished soup post coming later. 🍲💚

I never got around to heading Tudor's first book (although I checked it out of the library yesterday) but I enjoyed this creepy thriller with horror elements & a Stephen King-ish vibe-especially once I got into it & the tension started to build. Not perfect but a good solid read. My blog book tour reviewed paired with Tuna Melt Sliders inspired by the book is on the blog this week. There's a GIVEAWAY for a copy too 🤗 (for U.S. addresses) Link👇🏻

Library haul from earlier today not that I'll likely be able to read them before they are due back, but a girl can dream.😉The tagged book I tried to get for a Slow Food Hawaii bookclub but it came in this week & the event was last weekend. 🤷🏼‍♀️Still checking it out for a possible virtual foodie book club pick. The bottom cookbook I liberated for .50 cents from the library bookstore to add to my Sheila Lukins/Silver Palate cookbooks. 🥄📚❤️

Weaponxgirl That‘s a great haul! 3mo

My finished soup for lunch & #soupersundays blog post. Added a few ingredients & made some changes to turn a Mark Bittman tomato & garlic soup into Margherita Pizza Soup with Pizza Toasts for dipping. Pretty darn good if I do say so myself.🍕🍲😋With one of my current reads, a NetGalley book-store set cozy mystery that I keep setting aside for other books in my limited reading time, but am determined to finish. Soup recipe & toast how-to link👇🏻

Still listening to this one, savoring it by #audiosouping with it each week to draw out this series finale. In the pot is Mark Bittman's Tomato and Garlic Soup that I am adapting & using as the base to my Pizza Margherita Soup. Finished soup pictures will be up later. 🍕🍲❤️

Reviewed earlier this week, I thoroughly enjoyed this WWII historical about 3 strong women. In 1943 Eleanor is tagged by her boss at the OSE to run a ring of female agents sent to France spy on the Germans, Marie is one of the brave recruits & in 1946 after the war, Grace finds photos of the lost 'girls' & looks for the truth. Hard to put down. Here with French-Inspired Egg Salad on toasted baguette for my book-tour review. Review/recipe link👇🏻
