The first part of this huge collection is done. Read the first two short stories as my #DoubleSpin this month. Both stories are good and very Warhammer-ish, but too similar if read directly after each other. The first story is set before Xenos, the second one after. The stories are recommended for fans of Eisenhorn, especially since we learn how he lost his hand in the second one.
@TheAromaofBooks
How can Angie Thomas's books just get better and better? So glad I listened to this as an audiobook. It has all the vibes, all the depth and all the pain. Honestly, I, once again, felt ashamed to be born as a white person. Seriously, there's so much going wrong in this world, but this book still sends out a huge message of hope.
Went into this without knowing anything particular about it. But it didn't take long until I was hooked. Enzensberger talks about a cult in Germany's near future, living far out at sea. We follow the daughter of the leader on her way to find the truth and herself, and an artist who has lost her way and a lot more. I loved the way we're navigating Germany after a flood, practices to hold people down and small, and the person growth of both MCs.
My next move on #bookishmonopoly led me to our library, which was perfect because they organised a Blind Book Date for Valentine's day 💖
I had to choose between two books and ended up with The War That Saved My Life. Not a book I had chosen without this.
Now I need your help, Littens. I want to find out what book the other one would've been. The card said: Words are worth their weight in silver in this historical fantasy book. The industrial⬇️
Happy #5JoysFriday 💛 I hope you're all talking good care of yourselves 💛
1. Staying at home and having some days off
2. @VaniBarelyReads taking care of me while I was feeling sick
3. Little tiny flowers along the way
4. ADS medication is working and it feels so good to have a clear(er) mind
5. @VaniBarelyReads ordering these beauties as a Christmas gift for me 😁🧑🎄🎁
@DebinHawaii
This might be my favourite volume of the series so far. It's the story about the fish and the robot creature that takes care of it. A lot of depth is revealed here. The philosophical ideas that flew into this chapter, deeply moved also touched me.
Read this as a Buddy Read with my bookish bestie and was totally stunned by the inclusivity of the story. I'd expected a typical fantasy setting with typical romance - but no. The characters are deep and they all have their own packages to carry. The world building is stunning and I can't wait to read the next part in this story.
Is this an escapist read? Yes. Did I read this to escape reality? Absolutely. Did it work? 100%
Enjoyed it so, so much. And maybe, only maybe, I accidentally hit the preorder button for the next book? Maybe?
@PuddleJumper #roll100
I got sick and now I'm totally behind with my reviews 😬 My boss, cool as he is, gave me some extra days off, so this is the state I'm in now. I should probably post some reviews, but instead I'm starting my next book 🤣📚
A soft pick, because I learned a lot about Switzerland's history by reading this book. But all in all it's too long and totally forgets about Show Don't Tell. More than once I thought that no person in real life talks like the characters in this book.
In this story we dive deep into Switzerland's far right extremist groups. Therefore, we hear the N-word, we have to face sexism and all that comes with that.
Happy #5JoysFriday 💛
1. Got to try Báhn Mì 🥪
2. It's starting to feel like spring
3. My results for BBC ADD are pretty clear and I got some medication to try
4. Random guy showing up in our store, wanting to take pictures of everything connected to HR Giger. And I happen to work basically next to his birth house 😁
5. Surprise book mail from @fabienne.luethi ❤️ including an extra box for Secco
@DebinHawaii
This was recommended to me by one our best customers. I've heard about this book quite a lot, but thought it wasn't for me. When I started it, I still thought it wasn't for me. But the more I listened to the audio book, the more I got invested. It's interesting how the author mixes up memoir, biography and biology in one book. Without it being overloaded.
@PuddleJumper #roll100
This book was not written for me, so of course I struggled with it. And I'm totally fine with that. I think for those who need this story, it'll give them a lot. I was a bit lost between the Nigerian ghosts and gods, but also somehow fascinated. It's a unique read for me, but I'm not sure if I would another book by this author.
#queerbc @Puddlejumper
Last book read in January and it was a good ending for a good reading month. Discovered this book thanks to Erin's Book Challenge on FB. It's a queer historical crime novel set in 1942 and it showed me that queer people (and all other targeted people) always have overcome obstacles and have always been fighting for their rights.
I really hope that there'll be more stories with Detective Molly Malone.
My #BookSpinBingo for February. My #BookSpin is a book from my mother's shelf, and I chose a book about 50 Swiss women one should know. And for my #DoubleSpin ... 😱
Monthky wrap-up for January. Even though I rated A Scatter of Light higher, I'd go with Tears of the Nameless as #BookOfTheMonth
#botm
Managed one #BookSpinBingo this month. I'm happy I tried this, but I realised that I prefer to do my bingos online. Learned something new this month, too.
@TheAromaOfBooks
Happy #5JoysFriday 💛
1&2: Rossa and Secco being Rossa and Secco. Secco had to see the vet and is now back to his old self.
3: my new Gideon The Ninth shirt. House VI of course 💀📚
4&5: the little things that make you laugh 💛
@DebinHawaii
George Mann did an awesome job here (after reading the afterword it's even more impressive and moving). These books are getting better and better and better. And there's always a character I loose my heart to. Here it was Amadeo.
And I LOVED Dorian's part. I imagined a young, maybe confused kid reading this and finally finding some answers. Just all the hearts, really.
#StarWarsBuddyRead @BookwormAHN
No the tagged book, but by the same author and set in the same universe
I have a weird fascination for the Order of the Sacred Rose. These women are just so hardboiled. And fanatics, but most of the characters of the 40K universe are. But for some reason I find these women to be really inspiring.
This books ends like there might be another part to it, and I really hope there will be more stories with Avaline.
It's T. Kingfisher. So it's good. It really is. I loved the characters, especially Hester and Penelope. And I loved the fact that the females make the stories, the males are barely there to be there and help out. Everything else is true Kingfisher. Magic, humor, fantasy. Can't get enough of her.
Not in the Litsy database. “Nachwasser“ is a new word creation by Frieda Paris, and could be translated as “AfterWater“. It's a long poem and it's deeply impressive. The way Paris uses words, creates new ones and evokes pictures and emotion is unforgettable. At least to me. It took me some time to get used to the style, but it was so worth it. There must be so much time and work put into this poem and it shows.
This second book is a sequel and a prequel in one. Which I thin is a brilliant idea. We learn about the original Ambrose and Kodiak, and about their kids. It's part cuteness and part heartwrenching. I did prefer the first book, but I still loved learning more about the characters and their worlds ❤❤❤
Every now and then, I do enjoy reading Ruth Ware. This one was another eerie book that I indulged in. It's about things, that have the power to hunt us our whole lifes. Things, that change our lifes lifes. I loved how involved the baby was, which gave the story an interesting touch (poor little one, though).
#bookishmonopoly @AkashaVampie
These are my #roll100 picks. I decided to go for #62 because I need some fluff and cuteness in my life. The MacDonald one was a tip from a customer and I so can't wait for the last one 😍
@PuddleJumper
Happy #5JoysFriday 💛 First, I wanted to leave this over empty (you know why), but then I decided that I won't let them win. Finding joys is a tiny act of rebellion, because they want us to be afraid.
1) Tasty Italian dinner with @VaniBarelyReads and FIL
2) Stupid mental health walk with @VaniBarelyReads
3) Actually doing what's on my to do list
4) These little Dodge cars @VaniBarelyReads gave me
5) two cups of Koawach each day
@DebinHawaii
I think for now five adventures are enough. The stories all work pretty much the same way, if you know one book, you know them all. Usually, I think that's pretty fun, but right now I'm not in the state of mind to listen to Cain. Also, I got tired of the Male Gaze pretty fast. And even though I really like Jurgen, it's not enough to keep me going. This series is paused for now.
#roll100 @Puddlejumper
Another book that is so good, that it's hard to write a review about. I had a lot of thoughts and emotions while reading this, but it's a whole other thing to put these into words. It's a beautifully written story and kudos to Ki-Hyang Lee, who translated the book to German. The author works with symbolism and magical realism to create strong images and scenes. Some of them we might won't forget again.
One Piece was a huge part of my childhood and teen years. Now as a 30 something I see too many red flags in these stories and characters. But still... still... The manga made me laugh and it was just nice to spend time with those old friends again. And then sexism hits again. And then Oda reverses it. I definitely need some time between each volume. So whenever I feel like, I'm going to read vol. 62. It might take a while.
Happy #5JoysFriday ? has anyone of you lovely people seen my motivation? No? Well, then let's try focusing on the small joys in life?
1. I'm apparently the Top 3 of Switzerland's reviewers on GR
2. Going to the Ornaris in Zurich with my boss
3. Going to the thrift store with @VaniBarelyReads and finding a book about Main Coons ?
4. "Painting" with Seccos "help" ?
5. The vegan bakery in Zurich and their sign about what's not welcome in their⬇️
I almost bailed on this one. The misogyny was just too much. And every time I thought that there is domestic violence against men, Isaka just came with another another sentence that made my eyes roll really, really hard. It got better after the first half, but I wouldn't have missed anything if I had bailed. But the way Kabuto deals with his conscience and treats others was moving and made me like the character.
I know this is not an easy book. The whole series doesn't make it easy for you, but this one, narrated in second person, is quite the thing. But there's a good reason to the narration style in this book. Just one of the many surprises awaiting us. There's so much I missed or couldn't have known while reading it for the first time. So, while rereading the whole series, I decided that there will be a third reread in my future.
What a beautiful book. So much soul. It's about growing-up, coming out and about getting to know yourself. It reminded me a lot of my years as a young tween. Lo's language is so much more beautiful and moving in this one than in the Telegraph Club (but this might also be the translation). It's not needed to have read that one either, the parts with Kath and Lily are very short.

Doing some of this number by number painting thingies (a Christmas gift) and listening to Harrow The Ninth. What a delight ❤️💀
Did I really, really love this book? Yes.
Did I go and buy myself a copy for my bookshelf? Also yes.
Did I wait several extra weeks to get the cover I prefer? Obviously.
Am I excited to hold the book in my hands? Littens know the answer 😸
I liked this book from the beginning, but I absolutely loved the ending. Pratchett is (was 😭) such a smart man. Writing about religion is not easy, and even though I'm judging from a priviledged, no religious point, I think he did deliver his message. And without shaming or bashing. More than once this book made me laugh out loud, but I was also moved and it made me think.

This is a very tender, but also very sad book. In different very short texts, Han Kang talks about white things. White being the color of mourning in Korea. We learn about her older sister, who died shortly after birth. We learn how that still hunts Kang, how it affects her life. I was deeply moved by this work, by its calmness, by its insights.
My mind was telling me to get another audiobook, but my heart wanted this one. And it was a fairly good choice. Loved the twist and how they both dealed with it. It could've had a bit more atmosphere for me and a little more depth, but even without that I was engaged with Ambrose and Kodiak and am quite happy that there is a second part ❤
Not the tagged book, but by the same author featuring the same character. Translates as: The F*ck off Kitty Fights Back/Resists.
This is an angry book. It's for all of those who are angry at the cistem, at right-wing politics, at transphobes and whatever else you find out there. It's not a comic, it's not non-fiction, I can't really say what it is exactly, but it's cathartic. And sometimes you just need books like that.
#roll100 @PuddleJumper
After finishing my last book for #BookishMonopoly it's time for the next one! I landed on Chance and just did the little paper thingy again. @VaniBarelyReads was so kind to draw the book and it is ---- The Lying Game by Ruth Ware🎉
What a great start into my reading year! I almost got late out of my lunch break because I couldn't stop reading. Sure, I might not have gotten all of the science stuff, but that doesn't really matter. The plot itself is captivating and digs into the questions of how human AI can be. Especially at the end it got some got ethical input and I also got more emotional than I thought I would.
@AkashaVampie #BookishMonopoly
Happy #5JoysFriday 💛 I did remember to go to work on Monday, but then it was weekend in the middle of the week, now it's weekend but it's Monday to me...? I'm confused 😰
My joys this week:
1) Secco cuddled up in his Christmas present
2) Coloring Pusheen
3) Winter walk with family
4) Vegan New Year's Eve dinner
5) Rossa and Secco being cuddly siblings and not scared of the fireworks at all
@DebinHawaii
I tried to do a handwritten #BookSpinBingo again/for the first time (can't remember, tbh 😅). Not sure if it's for me or if I switch back to my old one.
@TheAromaOfBooks
Soft pick. This would've needed some editing. There are too many “...“ in this text to read it fluently, too many underlines and bold sentences. But all in all it's a good, even though a bit 'esoteric', introduction on how to help the trans and non-binary people in your life. Some good ideas and since it's only 28 pages also possible to get through for non-readers.
#roll100 @PuddleJumper
This one was more or less clear, even though I've read a lot of important books in 2024. Runner Up was “Was wird es denn? Ein Kind!“ (“What will it be? A child!“).
But Unlearn Patriarchy covers so many every day things that are based on patriarchal structures, that we don't even realise how they discriminate against other people. This book made me furious, I almost broke down in tears and it really openend my eys. Volume one was the same.
My 5 star reads in 2024 with Gideon The Ninth being my book of the year ❤️ Runner up is Somewhere Beyond The Sea and it was a very hard decision.
Stats for December 2024, including my #bookofthemonth for both, fiction and non-fiction. It was a good reading month and a good way to end the year.
