The Fellowship of the Ring
The Fellowship of the Ring: Being the First Part of The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien
The first volume in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic adventure THE LORD OF THE RINGS One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind themIn ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.“A unique, wholly realized other world, evoked from deep in the well of Time, massively detailed, absorbingly entertaining, profound in meaning.” – New York Times

As I‘ve mentioned, my bf and I are reading a LOTR book per month. This equals a chapter not quite everyday. To make sure we‘re on the same page, so to speak, he created Apple calendar events for our reading schedule. Now my calendar is full of interesting events that make my life seem way more adventurous than it currently is. 😆 Today I‘m going to The Council of Elrond.

Andrew65 Don‘t volunteer! 😂 28m
LibrarianRyan ahhhhh. My guy loves apple calendar. He is forever adding and removing things. Even thought this has gone on for years, he only just recently realized that I get notified every time he adds and removes something. and it's a lot. 7m

Me and the bf read today‘s chapter aloud with each other. He has a copy on his iPad and I have a thrifted paperback with the movie cover.

We‘re still on track for finishing this book by the end of the month and finishing the series in early November.

My bf and I are reading all the LOTR books before we leave for New Zealand in early November.

In July we read The Hobbit. In August we‘re reading The Fellowship of the Ring.

If anyone wants to read along, feel free. Say hi in the comments. 🙂

*Also, I realize I called it Lord of the Rings on the top of this reading schedule instead of the Fellowship. 🙈

rretzler My 17 yo son is also reading them for the first time. My 40+ year old copies are so dog-eared and falling apart that I bought him his own box-set. So far he‘s finished The Simarillion and The Hobbit and has just started Fellowship. If I didn‘t have some many other books to read, I‘d read along. And he‘s pushing for a vacation to New Zealand! 🤣 3w
pppooraikul I just finished rereading the first two books of LOTR. So I might be tagging along for book 3. 😁 P.S. I‘ve always wanted to visit New Zealand! (Esp. Hobbiton, of course.) Have a great trip! 😊 3w

An amazing adventure for hobbits, dwarfs, wizards, elves, and men. I loved it as much as the movie and loved the backstories to the characters. I recommend this to anyone and everyone. I can‘t wait to start Two Towers.

rretzler Same cover I have - I received the box set with those covers Christmas of my freshman year of high school around 40 years ago! They are so old and beat up from multiple readings that I just purchased a new box set for my senior in high school! 4w
abellism @rretzler that‘s so cool you still have the box set! 👍👍👍 4w
rretzler Wouldn‘t give the books up for anything. I now have the kindle edition too so I can reread them at will! Hope you enjoy them! 4w

Libby1 @suzie.reads and @JazzFeathers - I think it was well done. Some of the reviewers called it boring, but it was slower paced and more true to its time and place. I hope you‘ll enjoy it as much as I did. During one scene the tears were streaming down my face. So unexpected. 3mo

My first thought for #LongandWindingRoad was Fellowship and this poem from it:
"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say"

Litsy friends, it has been a long few days in the agricultural community where I live and teach as we have been dealing with a record crest of the Missouri River. So far all primary levees have held, but there has been a massive effort to sandbag the levees, and I've spent many hours helping fill sandbags. This morning I realized I had completely missed #TolkienReadingDay. This seems an appropriate quote for my late post.

Needless songs aside, I enjoyed the story. The Peter Jackson adaptation is awesome, but I loved the extra details and character development. It‘s not without flaws - I think in today‘s editing world it would (and should) be trimmed down a bit, but overall a great adventure. 4🌟

Day 14 - Amon Hen: Choices and Parting Ways

I love the episode of Amon Hen and not only because of Boromir. I also like the uncertainty, both in Frodo and Aragorn, that seems to mirror one in the other. That moment where both hesitate, then finally see the path clearly for some reason really touches me.

Day 13 - Lothlorien: Galadriel and Celeborn

Lotlorien is one of the most fascinating places in Middle-Earth. It's the present, but also the past, and l love that in Lothlorien they live together, in the same place, at the same time.
Which is always true, if you ask me. There would be no present without past, and our present depends on our past, just like out future depends on out present.
