I‘m in my first year as a school librarian and am so excited about the response my Valentine‘s Day display received! It wasn‘t my idea—libraries and bookstores have been doing it forever, but it was new to these teens. I had 15 books checked out from my “Blind Date with a Book” shelves in the first morning!! I so love trying to engage kids with reading! ❤️📚

Thank you, @Chrissyreadit , for my awesome #CreepyChristmas box!! Two very intriguing books and chocolate to eat while I read! My kids (visiting for the holidays) were very impressed with the candles that bleed when you light them (as was I)! 😁 Everything looks great and provides quite a satisfying ending to the gift-giving season. Thanks to @teebe for organizing!

1. So happy to have my family together around our tree for Christmas Eve and to celebrate Christmas this year as a high school librarian with my very own library to decorate! The biggest gift of all, though, was to have both of my kids home for Christmas! 🎄🎁🎅
2. Just a quiet evening at home mulling over goals and resolutions—my favorite!

@Karisa Thanks for the lovely #JalabokaflodSwap box! I‘m thrilled to get this book, A Gentleman in Moscow, which my daughter tells me I am WAY overdue to read, so I will be rectifying that soon! 😁 You also REALLY knocked it out of the park with the chocolate. Love that you saw my Hershey‘s Symphony and raised it with See‘s toffee! Can‘t wait to dive in to all of it! Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Jalabokaflod! 🎄🎅🎁

1. Horror or fantasy, usually.
2. When I need a good comfort read, I grab one of Georgette Heyer‘s regency romances. I‘ve read them so many times that I don‘t have to devote a lot of brain cells to follow the story. Her delightfully sharp wit, masterly plot building, and beautifully silken prose are a perfect distraction!
3. Sprig Muslin, Venetia, A Civil Contract, and The Talisman Ring are my favorites, but they‘re ALL great!

1. I‘m torn between classic lit and horror, but guess I‘ll go with classic since it offers some variety.
2. I must say, I think this question falls under the heading of cruel and unusual punishment since this would be a nightmare choice for most readers. I‘m going to go with the last half if I have to pick. I‘d rather have to guess what happened at the beginning than live in perpetual suspense, never finding resolution.

The Vicar of Bullhampton | Anthony Trollope
post image
Pickpick

I read this with the Victorians! group on Goodreads. This was my first Trollope and I really enjoyed it. It was fast-paced and engaging, with healthy doses of humor. The story focuses on an attempt by the Vicar and his wife to match up their single friends, the travails of a local family with a fallen daughter, and the Vicar‘s run-ins with nobility. I have a lot to look forward to since this is not even one of his more popular works!

CindyMyLifeIsLit @vansa I agree! I‘ve actually never watched the miniseries. The book is SO engrossing and her writing creates such vivid pictures in your mind that I was afraid that a film would taint them. Although there is some paranormal activity in this, I think it leans more toward psychological thriller than horror. Very engaging and unpredictable—it definitely kept me turning the pages! And where would our plot graphs be without poor choices? 🤷‍♀️ Solid entertaining read!

Apparently I‘m the only person on Litsy who is NOT a fan of this book. I found the premise too far fetched (calling a parent and telling them their 5-year-old is going to die?) and the chemistry between the two main characters unrealistic 🤷‍♀️. It‘s YA and a lot of kids enjoy sentimental stories like this, so I think it works well for its targeted audience. So for those of you who loved it, I‘m so glad you enjoyed it. I guess I‘m dead inside! 😂

1. My book groups influence my choices heavily—the two books I‘m reading right now are both for groups.
2. Book rating is based on my response. I usually write pretty detailed reviews explaining my thoughts on the book.
3. Today I‘m grateful for the opportunity to move from the classroom to the library and for a librarian mentor who would give up part of a summer day to spend time taking stock of my library.
#WondrousWednesday

SilversReviews I choose by publication date since I do reviews for all the ones I read. 😊 Not sure how I decide on a rating, but if I love it, it‘s a 5/5 - something that wasn‘t perfect - 4/5 - 3/5 is usually the lowest I go unless it is horrible with swearing and bad content. A 3/5 is one I didn‘t like. Authors take a lot of time to write a book so I always like to give an opinion that reflects that…I usually don‘t like the content or it drags. (edited) 7mo

The Egoist | George Meredith
post image
Pickpick

I was very surprised to find a book so critical of male arrogance written by a Victorian male! Meredith is ruthless with his brethren, laying bare their egotistical folly. The antagonist, Willoughby, is the epitome of self-centered narcissism. The story is about his search for a bride and his bewilderment about how rough his path is. I mean, how can that be? Why don‘t these girls realize how lucky they are that graced them with his attention?🤦‍♀️
