Some Stuff About Me
#AuldLangSpine

1. I tripped Queen Elizabeth II when I was 9 years old. True story.

2. I hate coffee. Yes. I said it.

3. My favorite color is green.

4. I‘m a New England native who can trace my family‘s roots in Massachusetts and Connecticut back to 1627.

5. I‘m a genealogy buff. I started doing research when I was 12 and haven‘t stopped. And boy, have I found some interesting skeletons by shaking that family tree… ⬇️

Amiable 6. I married the guy who lived next door to me in college. We just celebrated our 34th anniversary. We have two sons: one is a Marine helicopter pilot and the other is a rocket scientist. (edited) 12h
Amiable 7. I‘ve worked as a writer/editor for my entire career: at a daily newspaper, a university and a hospital health system. But I always wanted to be an astronaut. (Thank you, Carl Sagan!) 12h
Amiable 8. I love all 4 seasons. Even winter! 12h

Deblovestoread #1 What a memory! Love this ❤️ 11h
Amiable @Deblovestoread when she died my father immediately called me and said, “Do you think they‘ll mention in her obituary about that time in 1976 when you tripped her?” 😄 10h
dabbe I now want to hear the whole story where you tripped Queen Liz! Loved learning more about you, too. ♥️💙💚 9h
Amiable @TheKidUpstairs I‘m a die-hard tea drinker! 🫖 8h
Amiable @dabbe In 1976, Liz and Phillip visited the U.S. for the bicentennial. On July 11, they sailed from NYC to New Haven to catch a flight at Tweed Airport. My parents took us kids to the docks to see them. It was hot and I was bored, so I sat down on the curb and stretched my legs out. As they were traversing the wharf, the Queen stumbled over my legs. 😬 Thankfully she didn‘t fall. But it‘s a family legend now. 😄 8h
Bette Fascinating and fun—thanks for sharing. The jokes your son, the rocket scientist, can make. 😊 7h

Very happy to have finally gotten to this excellent selection from @monalyisha 's #AuldLangSpine list!! Sea creatures are a big thing in my community (San Diego) and in my household (professionally and recreationally), but I still learned a whole bunch about them from this book. Best of all was Imbler's gorgeous writing and the deep personal stories they enmeshed with the science-y stuff in the most brilliant way.

WanderingBookaneer One of my favorites! 1d
monalyisha I still think about this one. It‘s probably one of my favorite nonfiction books, period — not just from the past year (or two 😉). So glad it worked for you. And that cover, too, am I right?! 1d

#AuldLangSpine About Me @monalyisha
-My partner Linda and I met at a party in Long Island that I almost didn't go to, and somehow, 14 years passed. The upper left pic is from a Halloween party this year, me as a deranged emoticon, points for ID'ing Linda's character (think early 2000s TV, and not usually painted blue)
-I know it looks like we have a 2-headed cat, but this is Jem (left) & Scout (right), brothers as cute and cuddly as they come 👇

Billypar Other stuff:
- I'm originally from PA not far from Philly
- I commute from NJ to NYC where I work for the state mental health agency as a project manager
-Proud uncle to a 6- and 8-year old: both are readers, and my niece is pretty voracious.
-Big music fan - we covered punk and garage rock in your post, but I also like hip hop, soul, jazz, and pop, among others.
-Birding is my favorite non-reading hobby. And birding in marshes especially.

TheKidUpstairs That's gotta be Tobias Fünke! 3d

Billypar @TheKidUpstairs You can't see in the picture, but she cut up a pair of my jeans for the cutoff shorts. 3d
kspenmoll Love all of this! 3d
LeahBergen This is great! 3d
Texreader Love this!! 3d
JamieArc @Billypar Have you read Questlove‘s books? Seems like they may be up your alley… 3d
monalyisha Hi Jemnscout (doesn‘t work quite as well as Samneric 👑🪰 — going for a literary classics mash-up & failing 😅)! 3d
monalyisha I get those bonus points because I immediately thought, “I blue myself.” Fantastic/hilarious costume. Very committed! 3d
monalyisha So cool that your nieces are readers! If you ever need book recommendations, I offer myself as their librarian-by-proxy. 🤓 3d
monalyisha I *wish* birding was my thing! And marshes are such a cool environment! Maybe one day? I‘m honestly SO BAD at seeing small wildlife even when it‘s directly pointed out to me. I blame my terrible eyesight (but I fear it might just be me). It‘s a skill, for sure! 3d
Billypar @JamieArc I actually haven't yet, but they're on my list - I've listened to his podcast for years. I have read his band mate's book, which I really liked. 3d
JamieArc @Billypar Ha! I was also going to mention Upcycled. I got it for my husband a couple of years ago and he liked it. Also, if you ever get the chance to go to southern AZ, it‘s great for birding. I happened to be there and a friend took me birding. It was a really cool experience. 3d
Billypar @monalyisha I only read LotF a year or two ago for the first time, but I still had to look up that reference. There's got to be some kind of listical for literary pet sibling names right?
And re: the costume guess, that totally counts 🫂
3d
Billypar @monalyisha I might take you up on the kid- books recommendation offer. Even though my nephew reads now, I could see him falling out of it if he doesn't keep finding books he can get excited enough about. 3d
Billypar @monalyisha The good news about birding is I think it's a very learnable skill. My friend got me into it, and I'm nowhere close to her skills at id'ing by sight or calls, but I still learned enough to make it fun to do, without having any obvious natural ability 🐦🦅 3d
Billypar @JamieARC The only time I visited AZ was before my birding hobby started, so I missed that aspect. I would love to visit again though, so I'll keep that in mind! 3d
BarbaraBB Very nice to learn a bit more about you 🤍 3d
TheKidUpstairs @Billypar perfect! I love it. 2d

When all 4 of the books I requested for #auldlangspine come in at once! Thankfully my library doesn‘t have late fees so I can get to all of these! Now to decide what to read first! @Librarybelle @monalyisha

Librarybelle Oh! I hope you enjoy! I am so looking forward to beginning Sandwich in the new year, and I‘m still thinking about which one to do after that. I may select The Colony Club! 3d
Jerdencon Both good choices - hope you like them too! 3d

A novella I might re-read this time every year. An excellent reminder that unchecked power and injustice targets the most vulnerable in society, and only a few quiet heroes tend to decide not to look away. This was a top choice on my #AuldLangSpine2026 list. #AuldLangSpine #DashingThruDecember #Green

Eggs It does sound compelling 👏🏻 3d

I added this to my TBR after reading Sandwich by Newman. I‘m so glad I did, I really loved this.

It‘s a short read but powerful. Ash‘s life is in turmoil, as she deals with the terminal cancer diagnosis and hospice placement of her best friend since childhood, Edi. It‘s quirky and very family focused, and I especially loved Ash‘s daughter Belle.

If the #AuldLangSpine lists hadn‘t already gone out this would have made mine. Next year!

TheKidUpstairs This is on @CBee 's #AuldLangSpine list, I'm looking forward to reading it in the New Year! 4d
OriginalCyn620 I really liked Sandwich too…this one is stacked! 4d
squirrelbrain I adored this! 😭 4d
CBee @TheKidUpstairs Catherine Newman is now a favorite 💚 Sandwich was on my 2025 #ALSpine list - not sure if you‘ve read that one? It‘s also amazing. 4d

And again somewhat belatedly here is my some things about me for #auldlangspine

AnnCrystal 👏🏼🤩👍🏼💝💝💝. 4d
Born.A.Reader Swimming is my only 'sport' I enjoy too lol. Reading gives me my nightly reset as well. Do you ever want to move back to the city? I've never lived in a big city and don't particularly want to. Country, quiet living is soo much nicer. 💕 5h

My #auldlangspine list again shows how awesome @monalyisha is at creating matches. I can;t wiat to get into this great list from @Born.A.Reader I think it's going to be the Kings Jewel first as I have read a few of the same author and really enjoyed but Beatiful Ugly is calling me too! The Judy Blume book also looks right up my street!

monalyisha Oh yay! I‘m so interested in the Judy Blume. 5d
Born.A.Reader @monalyisha @Itchyfeetreader the Judy Blume book is amazing. A nostalgic trip down memory lane with biographical information as well. 4d
Born.A.Reader I am so happy you've found a couple you're interested in! I have all of Elizabeth Chadwick's. Such an amazing author! 4d
