This blew my mind. There were so many moments of true understanding, observations and feelings that could have been mine. I also wasn‘t expecting some major twists (not in a thriller sort of way, but a bit mind bending and heartbreaking nonetheless), but they worked seamlessly. I‘m not a woman on the verge (yet), but I understand how one gets there 😮‍💨😬 I highly, highly recommend this.

I 100% recommend listening to this on audio. A beautiful memoir that I‘ll remember and think about for a long time. Mikel is a beautiful writer and the last few chapters wrecked me 😭💔

Oh, Stella. This was an incredible read, fantastic storytelling and so well written and researched. I am drawn to stories like this, but even I was overwhelmed at times by the bleakness and trauma. Be warned - there are many triggers in this one. A powerful and intense book.

I‘m not sure if I was in a weird headspace (again) whilst reading this. I liked it, but it‘s very much an “inside the main character‘s head” book and luckily, I liked the main character a lot (we never learn her name). I enjoyed the interspersed stories from Chinese myth and would‘ve liked more of that. I just felt a bit removed from it - again, weird headspace 🤪🤦‍♀️

Did you know (I didn‘t) that the cashew is not a nut? It‘s the seed of a cashew apple, classified as a “drupe.” The book, “A Tree a Day,” inspired me to research this - there is a page devoted to The Cashew of Pirangi in Brazil - it‘s enormous! #naturalitsy #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday
