Dreamcatcher
Dreamcatcher: A Novel | Stephen King
Once upon a time, in the haunted city of Derry (site of the classics It and Insomnia), four boys stood together and did a brave thing. Certainly a good thing, perhaps even a great thing. Something that changed them in ways they could never begin to understand. Twenty-five years later, the boys are now men with separate lives and separate troubles. But the ties endure. Each hunting season the foursome reunite in the woods of Maine. This year, a stranger stumbles into their camp, disoriented, mumbling something about lights in the sky. His incoherent ravings prove to be dis-turbingly prescient. Before long, these men will be plunged into a horrifying struggle with a creature from another world. Their only chance of survival is locked in their shared past -- and in the Dreamcatcher. Stephen King's first full-length novel since Bag of Bones is, more than anything, a story of how men remember, and how they find their courage. Not since The Stand has King crafted a story of such astonishing range -- and never before has he contended so frankly with the heart of darkness.

Man I love Stephen King. He also wrote Misery, 11/22/63, The Running Man (under the pen name Richard Bachman), The Shining and it‘s sequel Doctor Sleep.

Today‘s photo challenge prompt for #deweyjuly #readathon is even harder than yesterday...

But I suppose if I have to pick a #FavouriteAuthor it‘s going to have to be Stephen King. I‘ve been reading him since I was 11 years old and still haven‘t read them all, yet I can always count on him for a good read. The man is a legit storyteller. ❤️

1. I'm honestly not sure. HP isn't my fave anyway. I don't typically read series? Stand alones and trilogies are about it. His Dark Materials will be my vote.
2. Jessica Jones.. Supernatural. Anything in between. Food competitions. Travel food shows. I'm less picky with shows for whatever reason.
3. Hah! Nope.
4. Hopefully if we get the BBQ working..
5. Sort of. History & horror.

UnidragonFrag @monalyisha lol.. yeah, I'm finding it's losing traction for a lot of folks (like me) or people too old to have experience it as it released, which was entirely different than reading it otherwise, I think! 1y

This is my least favorite. I've only read it once, and I disliked it so much, I got rid of it. It's been a while since I read it, but I recall being annoyed by the bitterness of the character who suffers the same accident as King did. Not to sound heartless about the accident, but it read more like venting than part of the story. I also found the aliens childishly disgusting and absurd. #stephenking17

When this book first came out it definitely got the #dnf treatment! I just couldn't do it. It was too weird and too damn gross. It wasnt until 2013 when I read all of his books in publication order that I made it through. The second time around it wasnt as bad but this is an extremely odd book and the beginning throws you for a loop. #stephenking17

CocoReads I finished it but it was rough. I also didn't like Tommyknockers. 3y
TheNextBook @CocoReads I definitely fell into the Tommyknockers faster than I did this book. But they were both super weird! The Tommyknockers didn't feel as gross! King lost me with this one with the alien came out of the guys ass! I couldn't do it. I literally closed it, put it away and tried to forget it ever happened. 3y
CocoReads I hear ya @TheNextBook I had to wonder what he was trippin on when he wrote that scene! 3y

BookHermit I'm not sure if I will ever be psychologically prepared to read all of King's books in publication order but it sounds like a great experiment. 3y
TheNextBook @BookHermit Do it! I just told @Josie she needs to! It was great. Especially because he references so many of his stories in different books. If you read them in order it's easy to catch and an amazing nod to the #constantreader 3y
jmtrivera This was the first King I ever read. I didn't love it, and I think it hindered my second King (The Gunslinger). 3y
TheNextBook @jmtrivera I would recommend jumping all the way back in time to his oldest work because Carrie, The Shining, The Stand, Pet Semetary so many of his older works did an amazing job defining him as a writer and are absolutely amazing! 3y
jmtrivera @TheNextBook I'm also not super into scary books. Is there one you can recommend which won't keep me up at night? 3y
annkuch13 I just picked this one up at a used book sale because I adore the movie 3y
TheNextBook @jmtrivera Carrie, Firestarter, Christine, Dolores Claiborne, The Green Mile, Under The Dome, 11/22/63, The Eyes of the Dragon. His Mr. Mercedes trilogy is a detective series. All of these were really good and I wouldn't consider any of them to be keep you up all night horror. 3y
TheNextBook @annkuch13 it took me awhile to get through the movie too... 3y
TheNextBook @jmtrivera Enjoy. He is my favorite. He is so much more than a "horror" writer. The Shining is terrifying but the narrative is fantastic and the plot incredible. 3y
PenguinInFlight I LOVE King's writing, but this wasn't one of my favorites. There were a lot of "WTF am I reading right now?!" moments. ? 3y
TrishB I read them all in order as they came out....as I'm that old!! I finished them all, but didn't necessarily like them all. 3y
TheNextBook @PenguinInFlight yes! Way too many moments when I just shook my head and tried to roll with the punches. 3y
TheNextBook @TrishB I definitely have a few that I didn't care for. 3y
Gayan My niece and I referred to this as the "Butt Weasel" book. Not one of my favorites. 3y
TheNextBook @Gayan completely accurate 😂 The first time I just had to walk away. 3y

If you had asked me a year ago about my most shameful King novels I had never read/DNF, I would have told you The Stand and The Dark Tower series. Litsy inspired me to read them and I did! So, the only King book on my DNF list is Dreamcatcher. I started it when I was pretty young, and just couldn't get into it. #stephenking17 #DNF

These don't fall under #DNF so much as they do #neverstartedneverwill - these two hold zero interest for me, both in print & on screen.

Cujo... Couldn't tell you why I'm disinterested, but nothing about it engages me. Dreamcatcher... King + aliens just never works for me. (More on that in a later post.). So when I heard that was an element of this story, I walked away from it. And I have no regrets.

#stephenking17

Gayan I finished Dreamcatcher but it was a no for me. 3y
AmyG Dreamcatcher is the only SK book I couldn't finish. 3y
rohit-sawant I haven't read this, but I've heard like unflattering things about it. Maybe it has to do with the fact that SK wrote this when he was recovering from his accident. I think he even mentioned once how this wasn't a fav of his. Considering how bad a place he was in, I mean he actually thought about retiring, I think this novel might've been more of a springboard to get back into the groove of things. 3y
Sweettartlaura @rohit-sawant Perhaps. But like I said, I don't like King & aliens. We'll get to my feelings on the Tommyknockers. But even Under the Dome lost its appeal for me when it got to that point. For whatever reason, I just don't think he writes those stories well😕 3y
