Personally, I think this one was worth the hype. There were parts that had me shook! There were some very graphic and violent scenes. Some of the characters were stone cold bad a**'s and others just cringy or psycho but overall very real. I think the author did a fantastic job painting a very realistic picture of how people from around the globe would react to a situation like this. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

"Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human."
For me this is between a so-so and a pick. It felt much like reading the novel version of a comic book. The powers of the characters were interesting and it was well written. If they ever get around to making the movie I would say that it would probably be better than the book. Undecided if I'll read book two.

Having a lot of fun already with #authoramonth. I don't think I would have ever revisited Shirley Jackson otherwise! I got this little shorty in the mail and vaguely remember reading it in school but re-reading it has left me with so many questions. Who ARE these people and what kind of world do they live in that needs the lottery? Looking forward to reading more of her works in the near future.

Soubhiville I‘m assuming you meant to post this as a review? I logged it 💚 2w
Mynameisacolour Hi @Soubhiville I didn't post it under review because it's such a little shorty like 20 pages. So I wasn't counting it. 2w

Looking for Alaska | John Green
post image

Recently I found this at a book sale and was SO excited because boy, do I love books/movies/shows about Alaska. For some reason I totally thought this was the novel that the movie Into the wild is based on. Wrong. 🙄🙄🙄 Which didn't dawn on me until about 20 pages in, ugh. Reading it anyway for #BBRC #Teenangst not appropriate for middle grade.

LibrarianRyan It does fit in that category. It is being made into a series I believe. I couldn‘t stand it. But I feel that way about most Green books. 3w
TheAromaofBooks @LibrarianRyan - I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Green's books. I've struggled through two, and it was like reading a really long cliché... 3w

Mehso-so

So the premise for this story was very cool but I'm going to have to agree with some other reviewers that this one sadly just didn't meet its potential. A group of women is hypnotized and dropped off into what is known as Area X for an exploration expedition in a slightly charted area that's been closed off from the rest of the world due to some unknown/undisclosed event leaving the area void of humans and in pristine condition. 👇

Mynameisacolour Strange things happen but are described vaguely and the climax left me feeling pretty confused and wanting answers. This is the beginning of a trilogy and since they are short I will probably read the second one in hopes of finding some clarification. Side note it has gorgeous end pages! 💚 🌟🌟🌟#BBRC #Bookswap 2mo
