have y‘all read this book? that prologue is SPOOKY (especially if you‘re an animal person)! bad decision to start it at night, looks like it‘ll have to wait until morning. 😂

Gissy Those first chapters are indeed creepy. So good. The audiobook is amazing. Later, well not too creepy, at least not for me. But I love the audiobook in those creepy scenes. 2mo

you want me to believe that - with the exception of Mira - these people are college students/young adults? no, thanks. this was also kinda…boring? i get that this is a road trip in a blizzard, but how many times do we have to go through ‘oh no! we hit a patch of ice/snow! let‘s get out of the car and yell and each other!‘ also - there‘s a random hit and run that‘s never addressed again after it happens? #wintergames #ghostsofxmas

a popcorn thriller with short chapters to keep you reading - nothing much more than that. i‘m a little confused at how so many people - grandma, fiancé, best friend, friend of a friend, ex-therapist, ex-therapist‘s boyfriend, and ex-therapists patient - can all be murdered by this one person and NO ONE - INCLUDING THE POLICE - seems to be suspicious that their close friends/family/relationships are dying/disappearing?! #wintergames #ghostsofxmas

My fascination with Mount Everest continues! I, however, did struggle through Krakauer's account of his time climbing Everest because it's...kind of dull. It's a horrific recount of the terrible tragedy that claimed 12 lives on Everest's slopes in 1996, but it lacks...human emotion? It's very dry and sometimes the timeline jumps around a little too much and there are so many people it's hard to keep up with who is who.

very Hercule Poirot without the charm...it gets a bit meta when a character asks, “Who do you think you are? Hercule Poirot?“ doesn't it?

1. I love a good Caramel Apple Spice! Usually from Starbucks, but due to the boycott I have been making them myself - amazingly, it's better than the SB one!

2. Lately, I have been singing and humming Feliz Navidad! everywhere I got.

3. I like to spend my evenings on the couch with my pups and a cozy blanket.

Thanks for tagging me, @Read4Life!

Pickpick

My first Heather Gudenkauf didn't disappoint!

While it's not the best mystery ever written and some of it is predictable, I'm extremely impressed with the way that Gudenkauf was able to give us three seperate stories and tie them all together beautifully. All of my questions were answered and there weren't any lose strings hanging around after it was all over.

It makes an entertaining and thrilling winter read.

People are dropping like flies at this chalet, but no one seems to be worried that there is a murderer in their midst?? There is no sense of urgency. It's more 'Oh, another one.' *sigh*

It might be helpful to have more than two POVs - especially if you're going to make one of the POVs the murderer. You've got a 50/50 shot at guessing who the killer is from the very first page. Hint: It's absolutly who you think it is.

#wintergames #ghostsofxmas

TheDaysGoBy I wasn‘t impressed with The Woman in Cabin Ten. I‘ve seen this around but wasn‘t overly motivated to pick it up given my feelings toward the book of hers I‘d read. This makes me feel glad I never sought this one out. Good review! 2mo
LocalTXLibrarian @TheDaysGoBy I read The Woman in Cabin 10 either earlier this year or late last year and wasn't super impressed, so I thought I would give Ware another try...my mistake. My fascination with the hikers on Dyatlov Pass in 1959 continues to grow. This one was a little more historical and gave tons of background info of Russia/near Russia during the time of this particular incident.

It kind of jumps all over the place and is rather repetitive, which made getting through some of this book a slog.

I am mostly fixated on infrasound begin the culprit, but am also open to a government coverup. #wintergames #ghostsofxmas

1. We put up a tree and stockings, but don't necessarily decorate our home.
2. I love the 70-year-old Candy Cane ornament we hang on our tree that my Dad made when he was in elementary school.
3. I'm not really into Christmas music, but I guess you could say that I like 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' because I adore the Hershey's Kiss Christmas commerical!

Thanks for the tag @Read4life!

I haven't finished Jane yet, but I wanted to share a neat tidbit I just came across - there is a mention of a Jane Murchison who donated $500 to Virginia Whitehill's committee to lobby to the Texas state legislature to change its abortion laws.

Jane was the wife of Clint W. Murchison, a man that donated $35,000 to open the library I currently work in (which is also named after him).

i'm so excited that egg prices are finally beginning to fall around my area - there was a point where we were paying nearly $3 for a dozen eggs! I have highly debating getting chickens next year to help offset the cost if prices go back up, or I guess I can take Pennywise up on his offer... #NationalEggDay #scarathlon #AutumnPlease

SamAnne Trust me, you will pay far more for eggs with your own hens. But the eggs will be such higher quality. Personally, I don‘t mind spending $6 for a dozen of good local eggs. They aren‘t cheap to raise and take care of. But can be fin. 🐓🐓🐓 (edited) 4mo

forgot to post yesterday! every few years I like to give EAP a try to see if my tastes in gothic literature has changed - and so far, no dice. I read The Fall of the House of Usher and have no idea what I read and am unable to tell you anything about the story. (thanks to Wikipedia for the explanation) I find myself zoning out each time I try to read EAP...maybe I'll try again some other time. #scarathlon #mischiefandmayhem

a little bit slow in the beginning, but things eventually pick up when the killer starts to slice and dice. the pacing can be a little odd - especially during the flashback scenes - and i was completely blindsided that a fish was part of the reason for the killings?? but it was fast and it was fun and it was set at an amusement park - i had a good time! Okay - so - creepy? yes! did I like it? eh, yeah, it's okay I guess.
