TheBookgeekFrau @UwannaPublishme I never the saw the movie, but my father did and loved it. Based on our discussions, it seems like the movie sticks close to the book. But of course, you know . . . the book will be better 😆 8h

After reading Hogan's other books this one was a bit of disappointment. Honestly, it would have much better without the Alice and Mattie component because Masha and her friends were perfectly intriguing and entertaining on their own. I also enjoyed the lessons on Victorian cemeteries and death customs 🪦⚰️

Never watched the Netflix series, but when I came across the book in Goodwill I figured 'Why not?'

The biggest impression it made on me was to wonder if Teresa Guidice's book was similar bc they both served in Danbury, or if there was a little ....um, "borrowing" happening.

I read a lot of #TrueCrime in my 20s. I especially loved Mafia books.

#MarchMagic

Eggs I do like Mafia history from time to time - great choice 👏🏻 2w
UwannaPublishme I enjoy books about the Mafia too. I remember reading a good one about “Vinny the Chin.” (These nicknames are a hoot!) And of course, who didn‘t love watching Mob Wives! 😁 2w
TheBookgeekFrau @UwannaPublishme Yes! If I remember correctly - he tried to get out his trial with an insanity plea by wondering around the streets in pajamas and a bathrobe (if I'm remembering the news stories correctly). Never read that book though. And funny I never watched Mob Wives, but my daughter used to watch it with my mother. 2w

TheBookgeekFrau @UwannaPublishme Good to know my memory is still working! 😂 I think when that book came out I had already moved on to my literary fiction phase; but I might have to circle back. ... Just finished and it was painfully boring. However, because of the subject of eternal life and the ending it will stick with me. Overall, it was a little too A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek for me.

LibrarianRyan Have you see the movie? I liked the book as a kid but as an adult I agree with you. But I did like the movie. 3w
TheBookgeekFrau @LibrarianRyan I didn't even know there was a movie, but should I ever come across it I'll watch it. As I was reading, I kept picturing my 6th English teacher and wishing we'd read this. I still don't think I would've liked it, but the class discussions would've been fun. 3w
LibrarianRyan @TheBookgeekFrau The movie was maybe not made for TV but not a big budget either. It has Alexis Bledell either right before Gilmore Girls or early in her run in that series. 3w

dabbe I love when books popped up from my (ahem) younger days! MHC was THE female writer of mysteries; I kind of likened her to Sidney Sheldon. We couldn't WAIT for the next book to come out. And wait we had to do--in the good ol' days! I might have to revisit her! #thanksforthememory 💕 4w
TheBookgeekFrau @dabbe MHC was the bomb digitty for my mother, along with Sidney Sheldon. I couldn't wait to be old enough to read them. So right after I snuck Flowers in the Attic, I read Where Are The Children, moved on to Sidney and never looked back. It's funny, when I was taking the picture I thought the same about a MHC revisit! #thanksforsharingmymemories 💕 4w

TheBookgeekFrau @Prairiegirl_reading Other than being afraid of the cover -- I don't remember the story, and I read it TWICE 😅 But the last time I read it was 30 some odd years and thousands of books ago. 4w
Prairiegirl_reading Oh same!! But I know where I was when I read it and I remember being in trouble about staying up so late. Mary Higgins Clark had a way of doing that to me. 4w
TheBookgeekFrau @Prairiegirl_reading I love how a book can bring back such vivid memories, yet we can't remember the story 🤣🤣 4w
dabbe @TheBookgeekFrau OMG! Flowers in the Attic! That's another one! I told my mom it was a heartwarming family story, and she let me read it in middle school! 🤣 I only read the first one, though. It really creeped me out. 4w
TheBookgeekFrau @dabbe I think I was about 10 or 11 when I read Flowers. It creeped me out too, but like a train wreck; I couldn't stop reading. 3w

At first I was bummed because the first half of the book is just a history of the move west BASED on some of the women's diaries. However, once I started reading I was just captivated. It's actually quite amazing that anyone made it West!

I thought the trek from NY to CO in a U-Haul towing a car with 2 cats during a pandemic was hard enough, but if we had to take everything apart to cross a river by raft...Yeah, I'd still be in NY 🤣
