Started this book last night. It's not quite what I thought it was going to be when i first started it but I'm really enjoying it. The relationships seem a bit forced and cringey at times. Pretty interesting so far, though! #netgalley

Buddy reading The Shining with @Traci1 . Only a few chapters in but I'm enjoying it so far.

Traci1 I'm going to convince you to read The Stand with me next. I know it. 😁 6y
GarthRanzz @Traci1 Do it! 😊 I‘m reading The Stand with @YouReadMyEyes right now and we‘re really liking it. First time for her, probably at least the 15th time for me. 6y
mcipher That book is SO SCARY!! Hope you love it! 6y
See All 7 Comments
Traci1 @GarthRanzz it's a harder sell because of the length, but it's my favorite, so I'm pushing for it. 😁 I've read it 5 or 6 times, enough that my copy is falling apart. 6y
so1quilt @GarthRanzz @Traci1 If The Shining goes well I'll consider it. 6y
so1quilt @mcipher Only 5 chapters in, but I'm loving it so far!! 6y

I've been wanting to read something by Stephen King, but I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should read by him??

ofthatilk I have no idea but I‘m obsessed with this corgi! 6y
tournevis He's written so much, there is something for you for sure. 6y
BookwormAHN The Dead Zone was the first book I read by King and is still one of my favorites 🖤 6y

CSeydel Depends what type of story you like. Tell us more about yourself. Do you like a lot of backstory & character development? Do you like a quick jolt, heart pounding, race for survival? How‘s your tolerance for detailed descriptions of blood and gore? Children in peril? Sexual violence? Monsters of the supernatural or earthly variety? King has written some of everything. @GarthRanzz @TricksyTails. @rohit-sawant want to chime in? 6y
so1quilt @CSeydel I like realism and character driven stories more than supernatural and action packed type stuff. Violence doesn't bother me, but im not crazy about SUPER gorey stuff. I am open to trying anything, though! 6y
Wife I‘m not a big King fan, but I enjoyed Misery and 11/22/63. 6y
xicanti I also rec Misery. It was my favourite when I went through an, "I wanna understand King" reading phase, and it's psychological rather than supernatural. 6y
Bookish_AF I always recommend Misery, 11/22/63, and The Green Mile. Other favorites of mine are The Shining (this one is supernatural), Revival, and The Long Walk (think crazy version of Hunger Games before the Hunger Games was a thing). There really are just sooooo many though! 6y
TheBookgeekFrau Joyland - very underrated King novel, very character driven, little bit supernatural (but it almost doesn‘t matter) 6y
imabusybee I am reading my first SK The Dead Zone I think its perfect for a first timer!! 6y
GarthRanzz I always recommend to start small. Tackle a small story collection first. Night Shift is my choice. Then a novella or collection like Different Seasons which is four novellas containing a couple of stories you‘ll know. Then a classic like Misery, ‘Salem‘s Lot or The Shining. Even @imabusybee ‘s The Dead Zone is great for a first full length novel. After you‘ve gone through some of them you can tackle It, The Stand or The Dark Tower series. 6y
mcipher The Shining might be a good one! Or Salem‘s Lot. Both creepy but not too gory and lots of character. And not super long! 6y
Crewgurl I second The Shining! @mcipher 6y
so1quilt Thank you all so much! I haven't quite decided which I'll start with but I have narrowed it down! I'll post about it when i decide! @Crewgurl @mcipher @GarthRanzz @imabusybee @C.Perone @whippoorwill815 @xicanti @Wife @BookwormAHN 6y
GarthRanzz We will be doing The Shining with the #LosersClub soon! That might be a good time for it. 6y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I‘ve only read 3 King books. Didn‘t like The Tommyknockers, Loved 11/22/63, and IT was long but really good. My next King read is either Salem‘s Lot or The Stand. He‘s a great storyteller. 6y
TricksyTails If you like character driven stories without too much gore or supernatural, I would second the suggestions for Joyland and The Green Mile. 6y
eirracm Agree start small, his short stories are great. However, I just finished Sleeping Beauties a few months ago and it was really good. A collaboration with his son, but that was certainly not a bad thing. Wasn't in your face scary, but a thought provoking story. 6y
bookaholic1 DESPERATION was my first Stephen King book. It was awesome. So are BAG OF BONES and THE DOME 6y
