🎧 I loved this super short story read by Zachary Quinto. It was unique. (Audible Plus Catalog) If a Dispatcher kills you, you will wake up naked at home, ALIVE. It‘s a job 😁 killing people so they will live. Takes place in Chicago.

Here we solve the mystery of what happened to a Dispatcher. He‘s disappeared after his last dispatch went awry & ended up permanently deceased.

Another dispatcher & a police woman are on the case.

🎧 HOLY SMOKE! What a well referenced piece of journalism, it just sucked me in!

A deep dive into three generations of Sacklers. The family who brought us OxyContin.

This is a very interesting fact-filled book about the people who may have escalated the opioid epidemic.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Twainy At the end of the book the narrator tells us that 10 states have a law that in order to prescribe this narcotic a doctor has to fill out 3 forms. The thought as to why opioid deaths didn‘t sky rocket in those states is that the Sackler pharmacy reps didn‘t push Oxy in these states thinking doctors would tend not to prescribe oxy as often due to all this extra paperwork so it wouldn‘t be profitable for them. 👇🏻 13h

🎧 Book 7 of the Orphan X series. 🖤 Evan Smoak (The Nowhere Man).

A bit morally grey, basically good.

This is my 1st Orphan X book & I loved it. I‘ll be going back & starting this series from book 1!

The story starts slowly but I learned a lot about the characters & the plot is clearly laid out.

A bad man‘s daughter is taken.

Evan‘s contacted & agrees to rescue her. If only it was as easy as it sounds 😆 Love Evan‘s tech support!

🎧 I‘m glad I‘m not alone in the low rating over at GoodReads. This is the most popular book on my library Loan list right now and I was unimpressed. 3.5 stars but I rounded up. The first half of this murder mystery, thriller was a hot mess. The second half picked up the thriller part but not enough. It was ok with an ending that surprised me so don‘t let my comments deter you if you‘re interested, just not for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

18 year old Daunis meets 22 year old Jamie on her brother‘s hockey team. They‘re on a reservation where people are showing up dead & meth is rampant.

Daunis becomes a CI for the FBI.

There‘s love, betrayal, mystery, murder, drugs, bad choices. A good story.

🎧 Difficult. Unique ideas!

Far off future. Sun‘s burning out. 100K humans left on Earth.

The story has already happened. This is Stefan‘s account.

The book‘s flavor? It‘s like if Michael Crichton & Jeremy Robinson rewrote Heart of Darkness crossed with The Terror by Dan Simmons in a quest-like sci-fantasy, maybe? ALL sorts of Abominations roam the earth. People are carrying Flintlocks & many can‘t read. Evolution. Extinction.

Katya deals in things of the past. She finds and sells them. One day while deer are crossing the road she meets a stranger named Johnny in the woods. Or did she? The story has an open-ended ending,

🎧 UNPOPULAR OPINION!

3 intertwined stories linked by a book.

Anna, Omeir & his oxen. 15th century Constantinople. One inside the walls the other out. This 1st 1/3 of the book was SO boring it put me off the rest of the book, may need to reread as this isn‘t my genre & might fall into a mood read category. If you like endless descriptive pointless rambling pretty prose about waiting for war, this book might be for you, the dreamer.

Rachel has an accident where her left hand is mashed & ultimately amputated at the beginning of the book.

Her and her newlywed Husband work through the aftermath. Then she starts feeling things with her missing hand and hearing things.

There are 3 myths about the body of a dead woman wound in a hollow tree & each myth is fully explored.

I enjoyed the book & liked Rachel.

#Illumicrate October 2021

This is one of my favorite subscription boxes.

The Iron Widow - revenge story - looks good. It‘s signed with sprayed edges & reversible jacket.

Also a pin, mug, art print & cloth book basket. The candle scent is honey/cinnamon. Not pictured: set of 4 black measuring cups with rose gold handles.

I moved to book only. I love the books! The money I save may allow me to justify one of their archive or special editions.🖤

🎧 Uhhhh what did I just read and why did I like it?

I don‘t know but the ending is insane.

TW: child abuse (verbal, sexual), incest, canabalism, a magical hedgehog … well what more can I say that would scare you away after that … Read at your own risk.

A translated work. Disturbing to say the least. Well written & narrated.

🎧 Felt like a cross between Ghostbusters, Shaun of the Dead & Peter Pan for different reasons & feelings.

No zombies but as I read I could easily imagine Simon Pegg as Cisco.

Maybe it‘s the British narrator?

Cisco returns to his childhood home 30 years after he saved his hometown from certain disaster only to have been all but forgotten. Then he saves it again … as a dad … doing daddy things.

Fun & cute & Simon Pegg should DO IT!
