Audiobook courtesy of Hoopla. It‘s about time! Second book in a row that was actually a scary book! This is sort of a Jurassic Park but with demons & monsters. Not for the faint of heart!! Loved it. My Hoopla queue is down to these 6 .... I have no more available loans 😫 ... we used to get 20 a month! This was a good horror book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

Audio narrator was a great choice. I‘m on the hunt for a darn scary book. Halloween is coming. This is DEFINITELY not a book for everyone. It kept me guessing ... Occult/witch craft? Demonic possession? Multiple personalities like Sybil? It‘s not for the faint of heart as the subject matter is unsettling. This is a good book for Halloween. The image is my Hoopla queue which now sports book 2 of this trilogy! 😈😈😈😈1/8 on the horror scale.

Audiobook review courtesy of Hoopla. I think there‘s an idea here but it could have been a short story, it‘s not worthy of a novel. The narrator is below average but passable. This time it‘s probably the story that brings down the narration. I‘m glad it was free but even so I cranked the play-back up to 2X. ⭐️1/2

Audiobook review. Twists & turns galore! Can you say red herring! It‘s an easy & quick beach read! Fun book. Narrator was also good choice. At the end of the audiobook there‘s a ten minute interview with the author, nice touch. If you like The Silent Patient you may also like Twisted by Andrew Kaufman. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

This was a recommendation. Audiobook on loan from Hoopla. I shamefully admit that this was almost a DNF! This is not my genre and I had a difficult time finishing it BUT it was worth finishing because it‘s a really good book! Story covers friendship, family secrets, generations, all female diving collective, a small Korean island. I really enjoyed the character interaction. Well done! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/4! I read & loved this book a lifetime ago and decided to listen to it ... thank you OverDrive. I‘m so glad I did. It made me fall in love with it all over again. Great narrator. Even better in audio! I listened to it straight through, I couldn‘t put it down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So The Silent Patient finally moved from my Wait List to Loan status at OverDrive and I can‘t wait to .... ohh look at the pretty pictures ... I‘ve been distracted! Definitely nice artwork. I feel like drawing now. These books are inspirational in more ways than one. Listening to The Silent Patient, paging thru some books & reaching for a sketchbook. Another amazing weekend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I normally steer clear of YA ... angsty teen romance or sparkly vampires really aren‘t my preferred genres ... but this was pretty good. I like the source material and Amy seems believable in her role. Not sharing “the plan” really moved the story along as I wanted to see where it was going. Thank you Hoopla, this was an audiobook review. ⭐️⭐️⭐️7/8 ... Happy Sunday 😁

I guess I don‘t apologize enough so I‘ll start here ... confession .... I‘m creating a Goodreads shelf called ... DNF ... and this is my first book. So it‘s 7.5 audiobook hours. Just over 1 hour into it last night I fell asleep. So today I restarted the book. At 2 hours 12 minutes I returned it. I‘m sorry, didn‘t like it at all. I wanted to! I liked her book about washing your face enough to want to borrow this one but nope. Sorry Hoopla -⭐️1/2

Audiobook review. I‘m looking for a scary book. This one was interesting alien monsters with a bit of The Thing, Bladerunner and West Side Story? Not bad but not horribly scary either. Good narration. ⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

Audiobook courtesy of Hoopla. Well another recommendation that‘s not my typical genre but it‘s cute & funny as hell. I had no idea what to expect. A fun, funny, engaging quick listen. Good choice of narrators. The author picked a great secondary character to be the main character in book 2. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The most loving parents and relatives commit murder with smiles on their faces. They force us to destroy the person we really are: a subtle kind of murder.
Oyinkan Braithwaite, My Sister, the Serial Killer ........... I loved the narration by Adepero Oduye. (The above picture is the narrator)

Audiobook. Narrator was nothing great or bad. I‘m disappointed. It‘s not what I thought it was going to be. Oh it was good, a novel based on reality but not as much of a horror novel as I thought it was going to be. It was a well written and engaging short book. Library loan via OverDrive. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Audiobook review. Good narrator. This isn‘t a book I would buy in any format but I‘m glad I have a library card. It‘s a book about a generation of 2 mostly Irish American families living in NY around 1980-2015. That‘s an over simplification! It felt like the author had experience with mental illness & substance abuse. This isn‘t my genre but it was well written, interesting & easy to listen to! It‘s one of Jimmy Fallon‘s summer picks. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I love the illustration hardcover! That book contains all of the cover art. Beautiful! I love Sui Ishida‘s artwork. Let‘s talk about the Monster Edition #1 exclusive from B&N that contains volumes 1, 2 & 3 it is ahhhmazing! It‘s huge! The pages are heavy weight paper & it lies flat. What an awesome quality book! I already ordered #2 & pre-ordered #3. Now I can pass along the individual volumes. Great idea B&N! All PROS no CONS! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Audiobook - great narrator! Story was easy to read. Library was correct, an enjoyable quick beach read or in this case listen. There was something that bugged me about it but I can‘t remember what it was so it couldn‘t have been that bad! I liked it. Great accent! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/8

Audiobook. I love this series! Always adding a new threat or genius new monster. I wasn‘t disappointed as I hate bugs. Sadly I also hate Kate. Actually a few of the females in this book are flat, caricatures or never developed. All she does is whine & plead with her hero BF not to leave. She should know her BF by now. It woulda been nice if she mentioned working on something in her field before the final hour. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 due to Kate hate. 😆

Audiobook .... nonfiction ... good book if this is the type of book that interests you 😆 it‘s short and interesting. The author‘s engaging & you can tell he‘s passionate about the subject matter. Finite are the everyday lives we lead, games with an ending, winners, losers, etc. I guess I relate it to a stand alone novel & a huge never ending series. Interesting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Audiobook - loved the narration. I enjoyed how the story is slowly developed. A bit of a thriller mystery. I waffled between liking the main character and being a afraid and hating him. It was great!! There‘s a sad lesson to be learned. Perfect ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Audible version. Well that was one made for head phones. Yikes it gets a little graphic but you need to hear it to understand the horror of it all. Interesting true crime (not my genre but held my attention). The book felt a little disjointed at times but they were piecing together the author‘s notes after she passed away. Creepy, scary, informative.

OMG I almost hated the main character at first. LOL I had to make it to about the 4th “replay” to even start to like him. He made several mistakes but I‘m not sure how I would react in the same situation. Yes I‘ve thought about it & I‘d hope that I would fly under the radar and do all of the things I couldn‘t cram into my first life without bringing attention to myself. I‘d say it ended up an enjoyable listen (thank you hoopla) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was actually an engaging fun horror/thriller. The audiobook had a good narrator though the female & child voices kinda made me laugh. If you‘re looking for a creepy quick summer read, this could be it!! I enjoyed it. I was a little disappointed that Tess didn‘t end up with Nick but there was always the bartender ... the last sentence ... noooooo!!!! Thank you HOOPLA! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 fun palate-cleansing stars! 😁

Tough one. If it didn‘t end the way it did, if the last third of the book had continued the story of the spoiled vacuous party girl, I might have hated it. I actually sped up the audiobook to 2X a third of the way into it & thought about returning it early but I stuck it out & enjoyed the ending (if I‘d thought about it I would have slowed it down). Good character development. Not my genre but worth a read/listen. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yuck. I‘m not sure what I just listened to. On one hand it read like a true crime story ... on the other like historical fiction about a serial killer. I‘m not sure how I feel about it. Has anyone read this that can better explain it to me? Well this is a completely unhelpful review. Despite the cold technical aspect of it & lack of character development ... I live in the Chicagoland area so it was interesting ... now I‘ve got to do some googling.

britt_brooke This book‘s title is so misleading. It‘s really heavy on the worlds fair, light on HH Holmes. Something about it didn‘t mesh well even though both aspects happened simultaneously. It felt like two separate books forced together. I rated it “so-so” as well. 1mo
violabrain Erik Larson‘s books are amazing! They are all 100% true and meticulously researched, but read like historical fiction. This book is no exception. The serial killer part is unsavory, I agree! But I never judge a book by whether the subject matter is pleasant or not, but rather how well written it was. 1mo
Lea Agreed. I didn‘t care for the book or the writing style (I‘ve read a few of his books and it‘s not really for me). It was just a so-so for me too! 1mo

Twainy @violabrain oh my, this was recommended to me as a novel with magic & horror aspects not true crime. This explains a lot. As a true crime book it is really interesting. I‘m talking to a co-worker right now that loves true crime & she‘s interested in reading it. 1mo
violabrain @Twainy That‘s hilarious! Yes, Erik Larson is a well-known historian who writes history books that read like fiction. :) This book would definitely be weird if you didn‘t realize that! 😂😂 1mo
Ericalambbrown I believe Scorsese got the rights to this several months ago and plans to make a movie. I enjoyed the book, but I also had a good idea what I was in for before I read it. 4w

OK one last audiobook review for this week. This book was the reverse of Lincoln in the Bardo! I can only imagine it as an audiobook! The full cast narration gives it the feel of a rockumentary! I imagine reading it would be blah. So I highly suggest the audiobook! I didn‘t think I‘d like it but ended up completely loving it! Did I mention that all of this week‘s books were sort of on the adult side? YA beware. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An audiobook review. The female narrator was British. This is a fabulous book. I loved it & zoomed through it in a day. The book‘s premise ... a newspaper decides to stay in business by starting a podcast called Missing Molly in an effort to find her & solve her disappearance. Ten years earlier. A family of 4. 3 killed. 1 escaped. An assumed name. Someone involved with the podcast is Molly. Is it safe for her to emerge? Great thriller! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Audiobook review. Truly a very good book! I had 3 endings in mind, the author picked one of them. I found it a little far fetched but it‘s a really enjoyable story with a teachable moment or two. The narrator did an above average job! The main character was well fleshed out from 7 to mid twenties. Good mystery! It was worth the price. It‘s not the genre I‘d choose. I read it for Book Club. Still enjoyed it!

This is an audiobook review. Don‘t listen to it! I imagine it‘s a great book & the 166 narrators was novel but without the book in front of you the footnotes & annotations being read inline with the text were really confusing. You need a copy of the book. I still listened to the entire book & I liked the voice actors. The story mainly takes place between his wedding to Mary & shortly after the death of his son William. Good! But you need the book!
