#deweyjuly #reversereadathon Book 10: holy freaking moly. I loved this. Very twisty but in a more subtle way. Fantastic thriller - I think I like this even more than Final Girls! #botm

Lovesbooks87 I loved this book too!! Loved all the twists and the ending OMG!!! I wish he wrote more than one book a year! 💙💙💙💙 1y
bookandcat @Lovesbooks87 soooo good! It reminded me of 1y
Lovesbooks87 @bookandcat now that you say something it does! That was a good book too! 1y

13 stories about one particular character's struggle with body image, meant to "skewer" our culture and be "caustically funny" (according to the back) but I mostly found it forgettable. The writing is fine but not much stuck with me. Book 9 of #reversereadathon #deweyjuly

Joy0201 I‘ve been working on writing about body image. This was on my to read list. 1y

Book 8 of #deweyjuly #reversereadathon
Oh, my heart. This book was powerful and powerfully sad. There There has so many connotations...a Radiohead song, a Gertrude Stein quote, a expression of comfort in an empty, hopeless situstion. No spoilers from me but I didn't expect this book to go where it went.

Samplergal I actually am on the library hold list for six months! Ima not waiting six months... yet I am not buying any more books. Hoping the library buys more copies. 1y
bookandcat @Samplergal I had to read it on my phone because the library hold came in for ebook first - the other hold lists are so long at my library too!! 1y
Samplergal @bookandcat I have read more positive reviews for this book than any recently. 1y
bookandcat @Samplergal they are well deserved! 1y

Swapped books for a bit (I'm in one of those #readathon ruts where nothing is sticking) and this book makes me want to highlight every quote. So many powerful thoughts every few pages. Too bad it is a library #ebook and will get returned.
P.S. Everybody's Autobiography is a great book, if you haven't read it. #reversereadathon #deweyjuly

Book 7 finished! It's Nancy Drew (#3), what's not to love?
Also...bungalow is such a fun word to say and Stumpy Dowd is a GREAT name for a villain. 🤣

#backpackEurope travelogue *fictional*
#reversereadathon book 5

Country 9: I feel like Estonia gets forgotten a lot. I saw the old city of Tallinn and the KGB Museum.
This book was okay, I think it hit me in the wrong mood. Well-written, it details the national traumas of Naziism and Soviet Communist rule through cousins on opposite sides (Roland and Edgar). The USSR was so Orwellian, and right after Nazi rule...I feel so badly for the people.😣

Linsy What a great photo! 1y
bookandcat @Linsy thank you! My violet has been working so hard to give me a new round of blossoms. I had to show her off - I'm always excited when I don't kill a plant 🤣😂 1y

Book 4 of #reversereadathon #deweyjuly - finishing up this one! Wavering between pick and so so for me (I'll probably put it at 3 stars on Goodreads) but I'll lean on the side of pick because I enjoyed the #lmpbc discussion my group had! The dual narrative was great and I think Lawhorn has grown as a writer since her debut. Great book for bookclubs. The Romanov story is so, so sad though. Thanks for your notes @Schlinkles @TsundokuAleax

Reviewsbylola This was such an ambitious book. I think Lawhon did a good job but it was a tricky read. 1y
Bookgoil I love the mystery of the Romanovs - an obsession I‘ve had since high school 1y
bookandcat @Reviewsbylola agreed totally! 1y

bookandcat @Bookgoil my friend growing up was similarly obsessed. I used to enjoy reading the Dear America Royal Diaries books about the romanovs and the like... 1y
TsundokuAleax Honestly, the discussion is what makes some of the eh books enjoyable and way more fun than they should be. 1y
bookandcat @TsundokuAleax *coughs* blind assassin *cough* 🤣🤣 1y

Book 3 of #deweyjuly #reversereadathon was GLORIOUS. What an absolutely stunning memoir. I was already 119 pages in (out of 290) before the #readathon. The razor's edge between life and death is a tightrope we constantly walk, and O'Farrell paints this tension and sweetness of existence beautifully. The first story (Neck) scared me out of my mind but I am glad I stuck with it because the stories are so beautifully put. Breathe in, breath out.

Bindrosbookshelf Oh I want to read this one. Glad you enjoyed it. Well done on finishing it ❤️🙌 1y
TrishB I loved this one ❤️ 1y
tammysue Can‘t wait to read this. Happy you enjoyed it! ❤️ 1y
