This book was everything I hoped the first one would be! This was excellent!! Adventure, intrigue, magic, darkness, lightness, magical creatures, kick ass women: it‘s everything I could want in a fantasy book. I loved seeing all these characters fleshed out and enjoyed the new additions. Loved it!

This was an interesting and different book. And what a fabulous cover. But if you want a wrapped ending this isn‘t it. I hope this is a stand alone book though.

While I love the enemies to lovers trope this one was a bit muddled. I feel like they never explained the hate until close to the end but there was no foreshadowing to indicate there were further reasons than that they just didn‘t like each other. Emma was annoying and I don‘t get why she liked Cooper. He was a bit of a cad honestly. I want a book about Henry and Nick though. This was a fun alternate history book of what would have happened if America was a monarchy. Now I love the British Royal Family but that‘s only because I am not British. That would make me mad if I was. So I think an American Royal family would be terrible but this was still an entertaining book and a quick read.

mcipher Awww, I loved The Spellman Files and have Hugh hopes for this one - what would you say was disappointing about it? 2w
ReadingSusan @mcipher I was excited to read this one because the concept was awesome with the underground resistance at a boarding school. But it ended up falling really flat for me. This book is fast paced and exhausting. The authors really brought forth the fear and scariness of this night. I liked the commentary on white privilege. I do wish it had gone a little deeper. But I really appreciated this book.

This review from 2015 even though I just finished reread last week: Another installment in the Veronica Mars canon. If we can't get another movie or tv show I will have to content myself with books. I really enjoyed this book and liked how it switched between Veronica and Keith's POV. It felt much more true to the series then the last book. And it had lots of Leo which I loved (no pun intended). (Con‘t below)

ReadingSusan ). I like when Veronica is confronted with moral issues and does something that is in a gray area. I also loved watching her struggle with her feelings of Logan going back to the ship. I think that was very realistic to her character. 1mo
ReadingSusan One of the reasons I love Veronica Mars is because she is such a flawed protagonist. She definitely is selfish and focused on her work. But that is how real people are and sometimes I just enjoy a non perfect protagonist. 1mo
ReadingSusan Back to 2019: interesting to see my thoughts now based on what happened on the tv show. I guess I always realized Veronica was kind of terrible. 1mo
wanderinglynn Yeah, it was easier to understand her terribleness when she was in high school. But I started watching the new season & stopped after the first episode as I‘m not sure her character has grown that much whereas Logan has had an amazing development from spoiled rich kid to military officer. 1mo
ReadingSusan @wanderinglynn yeah she really had no character growth. It was disappointing 1mo

I listened to the Audible drama of this and what a disappointment. I love the actual book but this version was terrible. Poirot‘s accent was horrific! And so were a lot of the actors. Did not work for me.

lele1432 OMG I agree!! I'm so glad I didn't get this version. I love the one narrated by Kenneth Branagh. I think he does a wonderful Poirot accent! His American accents were over-the-top, but I think the end proved the purpose behind them. Sorry this one was a dud! 1mo
the-woman-who-read-everything Audiobook accents are always hit-or-miss with me, and they can really make or break a book. 1mo
Naomis-shelf I really enjoy Dan Stevens as narrator for the audio book. It is always a disappointment when the problem is with the voice and not the story. Although, it is always annoying to come across both in the same book 1mo
MoniqueReads305 Thanks for the Audible review. I am always looking for books to invest my Audible credits in and this was one that I was looking at this one as my first mystery audiobook. 1mo

This book is a gut puncher. I vaguely have heard about what is going on in the Philippians but the details are awful and tragic. This is a story of grief and looking for answers. I feel like I would like to now read a non fiction book about this. Seeing the world through Jay‘s eyes were interesting.
