Mythology in Game of Thrones | Valerie Estelle Frankel
post image

I have been flailing on #BookFitnessChallenge the past two days. I have had after work events both nights and had no time. I did have about an hour last night but I chose to watch Game of Thrones. Trying to catch up before Sunday.

Emilymdxn No shame in being too busy! No one is a fitness guru every day of their life, there are worse days and better days. Catching up on game of thrones matters too! 2d
ReadingSusan @Emilymdxn I miss my book time. But yes catching up in GOT is my priority the next two days. 2d

Day number five of #BookFitnessChallenge. I have met my four mile goal every day on the craziest week ever. I have been struggling through this book. It‘s just falling a little short for me but I will keep going... Headed to bed early tonight since I have an early morning meeting with my new boss. I have nothing to report to him because I have only been training the last two days. Hoping it goes well.

Well I made my daily goal of 4 miles yay. I really had to push myself to do it when I got home from work as this was my first day working 8-5. Excited for my new job but sad to lose some reading time. I also listened to the Pachinko audiobook. It‘s started to lag a little in the middle. #BookFitnessChallenge

Caterina Yay you did it!! I hope Pachinko picks up again for you. I feel the “sad to lose some reading time,“ I'm starting grad school in the fall and feel like I have to devour ALL the books in the meantime. 5d

Day #2 in the books! Still working on Pachinko. It‘s such a good book. It is living up to all the good stuff I heard about it. I am so excited I met my four mile goal again today and exceeded my steps from this whole week. I enjoyed parts of this book. I liked the concept of what happens in the middle. I liked Babe. I loved the travel. But other than that the book was a bit of a mess. Shane‘s klutziness was beyond a YA cliche and I detested that. I hated all the lyrics and talk about books that I don‘t like. (Con‘t in comments)

I love a book with Jane Austen flavor. This wasn‘t really a retelling of Pride & Prejudice just more like lots of gentle nods to the great work. That being said this book was a wee bit disjointed. There were some confusing parts where it seemed like Trisha had been estranged from her family for 15 years but no they are close? I didn‘t understand that part. And the romance felt a little forced and I wasn‘t that interested in it. (con‘t in comments)

ReadingSusan But the part I hated the most was when it would quote her and then it said of course I didn‘t really say that. Ughhhhh. This book as a whole was disappointing. 3w
DGRachel I'm struggling with this ARC, too. I think the part you mentioned in your comment about quotes and then “of course I didn't really say that“ is a fairly common element of Bollywood movies. It just doesn't translate well into print. 3w

I wanted to love this book. But I could not. Cole is the absolutely worst person ever and I don‘t understand the attraction. Maeve was annoying and Megs was obnoxious. I don‘t mind books about terrible people when the author knows they are terrible but I think we were supposed to like them all. Also, I felt this book had a very anti feminist slant to it which I am not used to reading in books anymore.

This is an overview of crime, punishment and the rule of law by the former US Attorney for SDNY. I am so excited I got this ARC but just realized it comes out in 19 days so I better start reading it today. I love Preet‘s podcast and the times he has appeared on Pod Save America. He has so much knowledge so I know I will learn a lot from this book.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I bet this one will be good! 3mo
