I‘ve been told that reading to a baby when he/she is in the whom and is able to hear is good for them. So my baby girl and I have been listening to the HP series. ☺️ We will of course be reading it again after she‘s born and is old enough to understand what‘s going on, but for now we‘re enjoying the audiobooks.

Hmm, this one is touching upon some tough subjects, but I‘m liking it. It talks about infertility, which is surprising to me since it seems like a taboo subject. I‘m glad more people are talking about it. Thanks to those who venture out and talk about. It makes some of us feel like we aren‘t alone, the anomaly, the weirdos who can‘t do something that should be a piece of cake. 💜

I finished it about a week ago, but didn‘t know how I was feeling about it.

16yo MIM has moved to MS with her dad and stepmom after her parents‘ divorce. She isn‘t happy about it and after overhearing a conversation, in which she finds out mom is sick, she boards a greyhound to Cleveland to find mom.

#YesiReads #YA #cloudlibrary #litsyloveslibraries

👇🏽

TheBookAddict It‘s frustrating that dad wouldn‘t talk to her about the situation, she‘s 16 for Pete‘s sake! Her journey is very unrealistic and she meets who she needs to at the perfect moment without even trying. She‘s always witty and being very philosophical about everything. Also, where is dad during all this? 3y

Ok, so...I had mixed feelings.

Todd lives in a world with “noise.” This noise is the thoughts of men and creatures. There are no women in his town (the only town), because the same germ that caused the noise caused the women to die. Todd will be a man in a month, on his 13th bday and he‘s looking forward to it. He‘s going about his business when he happens upon a patch of quiet, which isn‘t possible in a world with noise... 👇🏽

#YesiReads

TheBookAddict Had mixed feelings because when he happens upon this “quiet,” we have so many questions. And as Todd gets some answers through people‘s noise we are not shown what info was given in the noise. Throughout the book we hear others‘ noise, but we don‘t see what‘s being revealed to Todd until we‘re about 400 pages in. It‘s a pick because the story was still enthralling and kept moving along, but it was so frustrating that he had answers and we didn‘t. 3y

Short but powerful.

Maleeka, a seventh grader, is being bullied at school because she has dark skin and she wears handmade clothes, among other things. Since her father passed away she had forgotten to see how beautiful and smart she is instead of listening to what others have to say. Maleeka has to learn to see herself through her own eyes, find her voice, and to stay true to herself.

A slow build thriller that prays on our attachments to technology and our detachment of nature & our animal instincts. I know that many people were disappointed with the vague ending (me too), but I think I understand. He wanted us in the characters‘ shoes & since information can‘t be shared without working technology nowadays the characters were in the dark. No one knew what was going on because no one could share info, not even the government.

AmyG I really enjoyed this, too. I liked knowing only what the characters knew, and I felt a bit of their fear and confusion. (edited) 3y
TheBookAddict @AmyG yes! Initially I was frustrated that I didn‘t get all the info as to what was happening, but once I took a moment to think about it I decided that it was ok 😆. It made me feel uncomfortable, confused, and afraid as well because I kept on thinking that if something similar ever happens I would not know what to do. So I made a list of things we should probably get in preparation and I want to learn some survival skills. 😆 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y
AmyG Ha...I have, many times, thought what would we do if something happened. I have this book that I got, years ago, from a government agency (?) about what I would need to do. You are not alone. 🤣 3y

It‘s definitely an interesting story, but I feel that it‘s purpose was more for world building than to make the reader get to know and connect with the characters. Most of what we know about the characters is superficial. Sadly Maddie had too many moments where I thought, “why Maddie, why?!?”. I was frustrated with her most of the time, but I just needed to know what was going on, so I read on. I hope book 2 is better.

There‘s a small basement coffee shop in Tokyo that has good coffee, is always cool (even on the hottest day), and you can time travel if you sit in a specific chair. Enjoyed the narration, the representation, and the style. I just couldn‘t stand Zuri for quite a bit of the book. She was too busy saying the Darcy boys were judge-mental, stuck up, and that they thought they were above everyone else to notice that she was doing the exact same thing, but worse. I understand that she was resentful because they brought change to her world, but like Darius said, he can‘t help how his life has been and is.

Pickpick

Well, I didn‘t hit my goal of 71 books this year, but I‘m hoping to hit that goal 2021. It was a tough one, 2020, I had a few months in which I couldn‘t pick up a book because of stress and anxiety, but I got through it. I‘m just glad I got to read the books I did. For a while I was stuck in the 20s.

The tagged book was my last read of the year and I enjoyed it. A collection of letters from Santa written by Tolkien for his kids.

Best Christmas Pageant Ever | Barbara Robinson

Pickpick

The traditional church Christmas pageant is usually the same predictable re-enactment of the nativity that everyone attends and that the kids are a part of, but no one really enjoys. That is until everything that can will go wrong. From one thing to the other it seems like the Christmas pageant will be a disaster, all you can do is cringe, chuckle, and wait for the big day...and then you‘d probably cry a bit for the Herdmans.

Lcsmcat My youngest played Gladys in a community theater production of this when she was 8. She had a blast! 3y
TheBookAddict @Lcsmcat I bet that was fun to be in and to watch! 3y
Lcsmcat @TheBookAddict It was! I can still quote lines from it and that 8 year old is 25 now. 3y
