Another excellent Christie! I saw the recent adaptation, so I was worried it wouldn't be as engaging ... turns out I shouldn't have worried! I totally forgot the ending.

I love audio puzzling! Haven't been able to do it for a while since I have small kids, but the husband got me a puzzle and some me time and it was heaven!!

This was just so excellent. It should be required reading in every middle and high school. The graphic novel edition takes Snyder's text on how tyrannical governments get power -- and how to resist -- and makes it even more accessible. Definitely going to be gifting this to my nephew!

Side note: I was reading this during #potteraday and saw so many parallels! HP + On Tyranny would make an excellent course together.

Why Didn't They Ask Evans? | Agatha Christie

I know I asked for more plucky heroines, but I missed my Poirot! This one was cute and fun, but had almost nothing to do with golf. That cover misled me.

And thus ends my Agatha Christie week! The husband is back and I finished 8 Christies and started ABC Murders (once I finish I'll be all caught up with #agathachristieclubr2). The children refused to let me read much, so I mostly listened. Hugh Fraser and Joan Hickson are just perfection!

I really liked the stories in this one, but I'm of two minds about Mr. Quin. At first, I thought there were way too many coincidences; then it seemed impossible that this wasn't supernatural. And for some reason, even though I usually love supernatural everything, I wanted a real-life explanation from Christie -- probably because thats what I expect from her. I liked seeing Mr. Satterthwaite again. I didn't expect that! 💛

At first, I really didn't like Parker Pyne. I was like: Those poor people!!! But he grew on me once I realized how many people he was helping. Though I still wish there had been a resolution to the first story. How many women did he trick into thinking they had a secret romance? How long did they wait?? Because he may not have said he was coming back, but it felt implied.

Many of the invasive species in North America were introduced here as “ballast waifs.“ Now many of these ballast grounds ... have become archaeological sites.'

I was on a bit of a roll this week, so I listened to this early. I loved it!!! I kept thinking I knew exactly what was going on, but the rug was pulled out from under me EVERY TIME. And yet, as is the magic of Christie, the solution felt completely fair. A crime is committed at a party that happens to have Hercule Poirot, Superintendent Battle, Colonel Race and Ariadne Oliver all in one room. It was so fun!

I've read a few of these stories before, but listening to all of them -- read by Joan Hickson -- was such a treat. Perfect cozy night in. Before this, Tommy & Tuppemce were my favorite Christie sleuths, but now I think I'm firmly on team Marple!

Three Act Tragedy (Poirot) | Agatha Christie

Pickpick

I've been obsessively listening to Agatha Christie this past week! When the husband's away, this is apparently how I play.

Poirot seemed a lot more authoritative (almost domineering?) with suspects in this book.

Egg was a hoot. I always love Christie's "terrifyingly alive" modern young women. I wish more of them were from their pov!

I really liked this one!! Kept me glued the whole time. Definitely recommend!

My husband is leaving for a week with his mom, so I decided to try to catch up on as much Agatha Christie as possible to keep me busy. I also grabbed Maureen Johnson's Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village because it goes with the theme and sounds delightful!

I start tomorrow and go until the 10th. First up: The ABC Murders (which is fitting because I just started alphabet week with the kids).

102 picture books with my boys for #scarathlon2021! It's hard to pick a fav, but our new favorite of the year has to be Creepy Carrots! My 4-year-old is obsessed and now even my 2-year-old knows all the places to *gasp* by heart. It was a hit! Creepy Underpants is good as well, but doesn't quite capture my boys like the franken-carrots. 🥕😋

I did Stephen Kingo while only reading one of his stories, so it's no wonder! There were a surprising amount of King-esque tropes in my other thrillers though. 🫖📚🤓
