Thank you for this #WondrousWednesday @Eggs 😀

🌹 I love a good space opera, so I‘ve been meaning to read Lois McMaster Bujold. Other authors who I have yet to read include Grady Hendrix, Riley Sager, and Samantha Shannon.

🌼 “The Black Echo” by Michael Connelly. I know people who swear by this series, but I found myself bored and thinking about other books I could be reading instead.

🌺 Tagged! The book that made me a bibliophile for life!

dabbe That's my all-time Christie fave! 🤩🤩🤩 1w
RaeLovesToRead Samantha Shannon 🥰 I also have Hendrix and Sager on my TBR (and physical shelf) (shelves). 1w
RaeLovesToRead I have a Space Opera section in the [top secret project] I told you about the other day. So far (apart from Saga), I'm also plugging Hyperion and Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series 1w

In honor of #Pride #LoveIsLove for today‘s #tuesdaytunes , I pick “Fever” by Judas Priest. Rob Halford, the singer for JP, officially came out as gay during an interview in 1998, and has since been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights. While Judas Priest is best known for “Breaking The Law”, the tender song “Fever” addresses Rob‘s journey, from feeling trapped in a false identity:
“Like I was in a cell, a captured heart as well”

(More in comments)

DaveGreen7777 Then Rob describes finding true love: “Then one night as I walked, I heard your body talk, I saw a shooting star. In some magnetic trance, our beating hearts would dance, and crash down from afar.” (edited) 2w
DaveGreen7777 Finally, the song ends with Rob spending his life with his soulmate: “Oh, so close together, we were like angels in the night. Living the dream, at last I‘ll be with you forever, and all at once it feels so right.” 2w
DaveGreen7777 Judas Priest isn‘t known for having many ballads, but this song is truly heartwarming, especially since after writing it, Rob has been together with his husband for over 25 years! A beautiful story of a person finding love after learning to love himself for who he really is! 😊🌈 🏳️‍🌈 2w

Awww! @Branwen is so thoughtful, she sent me an early birthday present! 😊 I love the bookish puzzle and the Funkos (the Joker one reminds me of seeing Batman ‘89 in the theaters when it first came out)! The tagged book has been getting a lot of love on Litsy, so that will probably be the first one I read, but all these books look so good! 🤩📚 Thank you, Branwen, you are one of the kindest people I‘ve ever known! 🤗

@TieDyeDude #TuesdayTunes

As a child of the 80‘s, I grew up on hair metal. But there was one song that 14-year-old David Green found so offensive, he would fast forward past it whenever listening to his Poison cassette. That song was “I Want Action”. It‘s not the bland guitars or ripped off vocal harmonies I hate so much, I refuse to listen to this song because of one lyric:
“If I can‘t have her, I‘ll take her and make her.”

That‘s messed up! 😳

Megabooks It is! Yuck! 1mo

“Thanks“ for playing 😉

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView and thanks for the tag @MaGoose

1. Multiple people have declared I‘m a dog whisperer. Even dogs that are normally standoffish are comfortable around me, and I‘ve been to parties where a dog decides I‘m their new best friend! 🐶

2. Tagged. The main heroine is a hypochondriac who discovers she can project her fears into others and uses this ability to stop crimes. It‘s a bizarre book but entertaining!

TheSpineView Dog whisperer is a great talent. Thanks for playing 2mo
RaeLovesToRead Dogs are all ambivalent to me. They sense (correctly) that I am a cat person and look at me with 😐 expression, haha 2mo
jen_the_scribe My husband has this talent too! Even though he is technically a cat person lol. Dogs love him. I was shocked when we were dating and he met my sister‘s dog (who always hated men because he had been abused), and the dog just adored him. 2mo
See All 7 Comments
jen_the_scribe @RaeLovesToRead It‘s funny to me how cats are the opposite to dogs in that way… if they sense someone doesn‘t like cats, they‘re all over them lol 2mo
DaveGreen7777 @TheSpineView 😊😊😊 2mo
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Cats have the same reaction to me that dogs do to you. When I meet cats, they barely register that I‘m even alive! 😂 If a cat ever learned how to shrug their shoulders, I‘m sure it would be a direct result of meeting me. 2mo
DaveGreen7777 @jen_the_scribe Awww, good to know there are other dog whisperers out there! 😊 2mo

“Most of those old businesses are gone but the Sun Down is still there.”
“They say it‘s haunted,” Heather said.
“Really?” I asked in surprise.
“Well, sure,” Heather said. “Isn‘t every hotel haunted since The Shining? People have probably died there, I bet.”

While I certainly appreciate the Shining reference, I can‘t help but worry that Heather is being a little too casual about the possibility of the Sun Down being haunted! 😳👻

AnnCrystal 👏👻👍. I'm the wacky kind, I find haunted places enticing! 2mo
DaveGreen7777 @AnnCrystal I agree! I always wanted to explore a haunted place, I think it‘s because I grew up watching way too much Scooby Doo! 😂👻 2mo
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 me too!😂. Scooby Doo made it seem like a fun possibility. Been awhile 📺.

I've always been really crazy interested about the paranormal.

While I believe ghost are everywhere, there is something about known haunted places, about the extra activities. Perhaps, because a place is known for being haunted, people are more open to paying attention to those activities? Or is it really the “place“ giving more energy for those activities?

“The street I was on passed straight through town, as if a lot of people got to Fell and simply kept driving without making the turnoff into the rest of the town. The ‘WELCOME TO FELL‘ sign I‘d passed last night had been vandalized by a wit who had used spray paint to add the words ‘TURN BACK‘.”

Turn back? That‘s not a good sign! 😳

Litsy has spoken! When I recently showed off a picture of my “Bookshelf of Terror”, many of you suggested my next read should be “The Sun Down Motel”, so I‘m starting that now. Since I believe this is a ghost story, I even wore my spoooky Halloween tie to mark the occasion. 👻 Although if it turns out there aren‘t really any ghosts in this story, I may end up feeling silly…but only if it‘s possible to feel any more silly while wearing a Taz tie!

4 out of 5 scary carnivals for “Tastes Like Candy” by Ivy Tholen 🎡🎡🎡🎡

Reading “Tastes Like Candy” is a lot like actually eating candy… it‘s not the most nutritious thing you can feed your mind, but it sure is a lot of fun! A group of friends sneak into the Poison Apple Carnival on a scavenger hunt, only to be hunted themselves by a masked killer. A standard setup, but enhanced by the cast getting deeper characterization and witty dialogue.

4 out of 5 murder clowns for “Clown in a Cornfield”! 🤡🤡🤡🤡

I wanted a fun cheesy horror novel, and that‘s exactly what I got. Creepy atmosphere, amusing characters, and enough twists to surprise me even when I thought I figured it all out.

The story is not the deepest and the attempts at social commentary are a little too clunky to be taken seriously, but even if the story itself won‘t stick with me afterwards, the fun I had reading it will!

I recently reorganized my bookshelves to sort them mostly by genre. The shelf on the top in this photo is mostly dedicated to horror and thrillers. @RaeLovesToRead has questions, y‘all! ❓

1. Tagged! It‘s my current read and the only book I‘ve read this year with mystery elements so far. 😳 I‘m about 2/3rds of the way through, and already the book has thrown a twist at me I didn‘t see coming.

2. My vote for next book I‘m going to read changes almost daily, but I‘ve been eyeing my copy of “The Sun Down Motel”.

3. I do especially love mysteries with supernatural elements. 👻

@RaeLovesToRead has questions, y‘all!

🌒 It‘s hard to pick a scariest, but the first book that freaked me out was the graphic novel “Batman: Gothic” by Grant Morrison. It features a serial killer with no shadow, a haunted monastery, and even a jump scare when a ghost showed up on one page! 👻

🌒 I love horror! Not a big gorehound, but I like anything haunting and creepy! 😱

🌒 Tagged! A fun gothic dark fantasy! 🥀

RaeLovesToRead Wow! A jump scare in a graphic novel! 😱 8mo
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead I read the original comic books when I was much younger and new to horror… which is why I made the rookie mistake of reading them at 2 in the morning! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Freaked me out when I turned the page and there was a bizarre ghost face staring at me! 😱👻 8mo
RaeLovesToRead @DaveGreen7777 The one time I literally jumped back from a comic was when I read the first Preacher volume and there was a TWO PAGE spread of a TORN OFF FACE 😳 I actually sold volume 2 before I read it 😅 Can't deal with Garth Ennis 8mo
See All 6 Comments
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Yeah, I‘ve read some Garth Ennis, so I understand! 😳 What annoys me about him is when he tries, he can really tell a compelling story (like most of his Punisher MAX series), but too often he just falls back on potty humor and shock value! 🤦🏻‍♂️ It may be a hit show now, but I gave up reading The Boys by him when his writing devolved into that of a teenage boy who thinks anything vulgar is automatically funny! 🤮 8mo
RaeLovesToRead @DaveGreen7777 I've been warned that I won't like The Boys (TV show) so I shall avoid 😵 I swear I'm getting more sensitive not less 😅 8mo

Thank you for this #WondrousWednesday @Eggs 😊

1. Toss up between “Airplane” and “The Naked Gun” by the same filmmakers. The madcap 20-jokes-a-minute pace always makes me laugh and they still hold up decades later.

2. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”. Overall I really liked it. It was a little too somber for me at times, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge brought some much needed levity to it!

3. I often pray for help for anyone who needs help!

@RaeLovesToRead #IHaveQuestions
For 10 books to save I decided no cheating, I can‘t save my Kindle, only books I own in physical format. “Good Omens”, “Mistborn”, Talisman” and “Killing Moon” are favorites; “Storm Front”, “Eye of the World”, and “Magic Bites” are the start of some favorite series. “Priory” and “Green Rider” I need to read and will now have more time. And “Sojourn” I‘m keeping for sentimental reasons… @Branwen knows what I mean!😁

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great books! The Jim Butcher, Ilona Andrews, and NK Jemisin are great. So tough to just pick 1 of a series though. 1y

@RaeLovesToRead has questions!!!

In this scenario, the world is ending, and one of my biggest regrets is… oh, no, I can only save 10 books! Sounds about right! 😂 I‘m sharing this for anyone who wants to play. My 10 books are about to be revealed in photographic fashion! 😁

#IHaveQuestions #BelovedBooks

RaeLovesToRead Ooh, can't wait 🍿🍿🍿 1y
Branwen This prompt is giving me so much anxiety! 😂 1y
RaeLovesToRead @Branwen I'm sorry!!! I'm a terrible Litten 🙈🙈 We can all hang out in the same shelter and do swapsies? 😁 While we work on our learning-how-to-use-nunchaku-for-the-apocalypse montage!!!! 1y

@RaeLovesToRead has questions, y‘all! 🤔

Even at an early age I loved Sherlock Holmes mysteries, so I‘d go with Sherlock, Dr. Watson, and Irene Adler. For the entertainment, I would leave a bunch of fake clues around so every time Holmes used one to make a deduction about me, I could tell him, “That‘s not even close! You were way off!” Holmes wouldn‘t be amused, but I‘m sure Watson and Adler will enjoy watching Holmes suffer!😂

RaeLovesToRead Hahaha, Sherlock picks up PlayStation Controller... "I suspect we are looking for a gamer, Watson..." *looks at bookshelf* "a gamer who likes Brandon Sanderson ? 1y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead That‘s one of the ways I‘ll get Sherlock, I‘ll leave an Xbox controller around, and when he deduces I‘m an Xbox player I‘ll say, “No, I‘m a PlayStation player, I don‘t even own an Xbox! You‘re really bad at this, Mr. Holmes!” 🤣 1y
RaeLovesToRead Haha. "An xbox controller without a console, Watson? I think we may be being trolled. I call shenanigans. Also, when does takeaway arrive?" ?? 1y

Paging all Littens, @RaeLovesToRead has questions!

1. Tagged! It takes a story from Russian mythology and weaves it into a historical fiction with high fantasy elements threaded in. 🤩

2. I‘ve read cyberpunk and steampunk, but has a book ever combined both genres? Cybersteampunk should be a thing! 🤔

3. Nonfiction romance… wait, that makes it sound like I‘m opposed to real-life love! Now I have questions about myself! 😳

RaeLovesToRead I agree... DOWN WITH LOVE!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I would totally love cybersteampunk... maybe in a Western setting instead of Victorian aesthetic... *imagining Clint Eastwood with a technological Invisibility poncho infiltrating an airship base* (*with cogs*) 1y
DaveGreen7777 Clint Eastwood in a technological invisibility poncho… NOW I NEED THIS BOOK!!! 🤯 1y
RaeLovesToRead I'll add it to the list of "books I'm pretending to write" ? 1y

IndoorDame @RaeLovesToRead yes please!!! *cancels entire day and reads all the “books you‘re pretending to write” instead of doing actual work 1y

@RaeLovesToRead coming at us with the tough questions today! 🤔

1. Tagged! This book committed one of the worst sins for me… it was boring! Loooooong stretches of nothing interesting happening. Add to that shock value just for the sake of shock value, and a terrible ending.
2. As beloved as it is, I can‘t bring myself to read “A Storm of Swords” by GRRM. I don‘t want to continue a series that I suspect will never be completed! 😔

RaeLovesToRead I feel your pain on 2!!!! One of my favourite series' of all time and so much emotional investment ??? I can't blame GRRM though. He'll post something like "Happy Birthday to my lovely wife" on social media and all he'll get back is WRITE THE NEXT BOOK YOU #@$ &%^€¥!!!" ? 1y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Hee hee, I never thought of it like that… maybe Martin was all set to finish Winds of Winter, but when everyone kept demanding he get back to it, he folded his arms and said, “Well, now I don‘t WANT to write it anymore!!!” 🤣🤣🤣 (edited) 1y
RaeLovesToRead He's probably finished it all and is sat back on a deckchair sipping a cocktail and smiling to himself 😄 1y
See All 12 Comments
BiblioLitten Omg the visual imagery is too much 🤣🤣 1y
Branwen @RaeLovesToRead @DaveGreen7777 Georgie needs to get his butt in gear and finish that series! 😭 You are smart Dave, to have stopped reading when you did! I'm in the same boat as Rae... it's one of my favorite fantasy series and it's absolute torture to have to keep waiting! 😵‍💫🫠 1y
DaveGreen7777 @Branwen I still wonder if GRRM was originally going to end the books the same way as the Game of Thrones show did, and after he saw how dissatisfied everyone was with the show ending, he burned the original draft of Winds of Winter and started all over?!? 🤔 1y
Branwen @DaveGreen7777 I will cry so many tears of that's the case! 😭 I mean, the ending to the TV show was atrocious! But if he has to start all over we're probably looking at another decade before we see the next book! 😂🫠 1y
DaveGreen7777 @Branwen We may still get to see the next book… if George RR Martin lives to be 135 years old! 😳 1y
DogMomIrene I‘m with you too Dave. I read the first 2, maybe 3 books years ago. Can‘t even remember, but I stopped for the same reason. I‘m also waiting for Patrick Rothfuss to finish his Kvothe trilogy. I‘ll never be the person who‘s abusive to an author, but I‘m also like, pleeeeeeaaase finish! 1y
DaveGreen7777 @DogMomIrene These authors don‘t realize what they‘re doing to us by not continuing these series! Or maybe they do but they just don‘t care! 😩 1y
DogMomIrene @DaveGreen7777 🤣Perhaps a new field of study? Storytelling psychopaths?😂 1y

Avanders Oooh ok fun! Thanks! 😁🤩 2y
RaeLovesToRead How did I miss this post?? 😲 I adore the UK covers to thus series too ❤ 2y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Hee hee, fun fact, whenever I see a poll on Bookstagram asking if the U.S. or U.K. covers are better, more often than not I vote for the U.K. ones. The U.K. has all the coolest stuff, especially when it comes to book covers… and rock bands… and Raes! 😎 2y

1️⃣ Shallan from “The Stormlight Archives”. Shallan started as a con artist, so she‘s experienced in pretending to be other people. And now that she can cast illusions, she could even bring her own CGI effects to Hollywood!

2️⃣ “Orphan Black”. Shallan could play an entire Clone Club almost as well as Tatiana Maslany did! Sorry, Shallan, but NO ONE could be better at playing clones than Tatiana was!

TheSpineView Didn't think about her. Excellent choice! Thanks for playing! 2y

Thanks for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView and thank you for the tag @RaeLovesToRead 😀

1. Lying Cat from the “Saga” series. Who knew a cat that only says one word could add so much poignancy to a story?! 🙀

2. I appreciate a strong supporting character, but sometimes they can hurt a story if they overshadow the lead. In the tagged book I was more interested in supporting character Snow and didn‘t enjoy the parts when she wasn‘t around as much.

RaeLovesToRead Yes! Lying cat! 😻 And Ghüs! 🦭💕 2y

It‘s a few days since I finished this buddy read with the wonderful @Branwen and I‘m still processing my feelings. 1. Raboniel. She‘s everything a book villain should be: charismatic, clever, formidable, and usually at least three steps ahead of the heroes. She‘s so good at being bad, I almost started rooting for her!

2. I‘d like to see the main characters all get happy endings, but since it will be a Sanderson book, that ain‘t happening! 😭

3. Tagged! In this alternate history, Jean Grey disguises herself as a man to sneak on a ship, and Angel finds himself falling in love with her.
(More in comments).

DaveGreen7777 Later when Angel learns Jean is really a woman, he reflects on how he loved her just the same when he thought she was a man. It was such a beautiful portrayal of everlasting love, as well as representation of LGBTQIA themes at a time when graphic novels almost never included them. 🌈 (edited) 2y
Branwen YAY! I hope you end up loving The Starless Sea as much as I do! 😃💕📚 I devoured both Eon and Eona and THEY WERE BOTH SO GOOD! 2y

DaveGreen7777 @Branwen Awww, I‘m so glad you enjoyed those books! 😀 2y

The blizzard is in full effect here in Massachusetts! 😩🥶🌧 On the plus side, I should have some extra time for reading today while waiting to start the snow removal! 😁📚

DogMomIrene I was watching coverage of the storm earlier. Looks like you‘ll be getting in some cardio time for sure. 2y
RaeLovesToRead Oh wow, that is... snowy! 2y
TheSpineView Burrr..😱🥶 2y

Suet624 I love blizzards and I‘m bummed it‘s not happening up here in northern Vermont. Best wishes! 2y
mcctrish Or don‘t remove the snow and say you are trapped and have to read 2y
5feet.of.fury I‘ve been out twice but it all blew back 🙄❄️⛷ 2y
Gissy Great excuse to read and since we don‘t have snow here, it looks pretty to me😳🤷🏽‍♀️☺️
BookBabe Pretty! I like @mcctrish ‘s idea 😄 I say just cozy up with a warm beverage, a book, and a blanket, and milk that snowstorm as much as possible! 😃❄️ 2y
DaveGreen7777 @DogMomIrene @RaeLovesToRead @TheSpineView @Suet624 @mcctrish @5feet.of.fury @Gissy @BookBabe Thanks, everyone! 😁 I just finished round one of the snow removal so I won‘t have to do it all at once tomorrow. Now I‘m staying inside the rest of the night and curling up with a book as many of you suggested! 😊 (edited) 2y
Branwen WOW. 😲 That is...a lot of snow! 😲❄❄❄ I hope you are enjoying your cozy bookish evening after all that snow removal! 💕📚 2y
PaperbackPirate Stay warm! 🌞📚🔥❄️🥶 2y
DaveGreen7777 @Branwen @PaperbackPirate Thank you! My power is back on and the snow removal is complete! 😁 2y
Branwen @DaveGreen7777 HOORAY! That is fantastic news! 🎉🎉💕 2y
Desha Over here on the west coast we‘ve been watching your storm in amazement...I don‘t know how you survive the snow! We visited Boston and Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha‘s Vineyard in September and it‘s hard to believe it‘s the same place! I loved it though when we were there!! 😊 Best wishes for good reading time during the storm!! 👏🏻📚 2y
DaveGreen7777 Thanks @Desha Sadly, we just get used to snowstorms after a while… it gets to the point where if we get less than a foot of snow, we just shrug it off like, “Hey, I don‘t even have to clean off my car for that little snow!” 😂 2y
Desha So funny! Here we complain and stay inside all day if we get a little rain! 🤪 Yes, we‘re wimps! 😂 2y

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView 😁

1️⃣ Not often, but every once in a while, if I‘m at an appointment where I‘m waiting longer than expected and I didn‘t bring a book with me, I‘ll start reading on the Kindle app on my phone. Desperate times and all that!

2️⃣ I love my Kindle Oasis, it even has a warm light option to read comfortably in the dark, so I don‘t have to stop reading for some silly reason like it being past midnight! 🤓

TheSpineView I do understand desperate times!😆 Thanks for playing! 2y

The Palace Job | Patrick Weekes

Thank you for this #Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView 😁

1️⃣ Oooh, this is a tough question for me! Usually, I prefer books to have a quicker pace. However, there is something magical about a slow burn done right when the payoff is worth it!

2️⃣ Tagged! I‘m happy when a book has one great twist, but “The Palace Job” has one in almost every chapter. What started as a seemingly breezy heist story turned out to have many more layers than I was expecting!

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! Happy Tuesday! 🤩📖📚 2y
PathfinderNicole Patrick Weekes helped write two of my favorite video game series of all time and I can‘t believe they wrote a novel and I didn‘t know it!! (edited) 2y
DaveGreen7777 @PathfinderNicole Oooh, I hope you enjoy this one! 😀 2y

DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead I just found out they wrote for Mass Effect myself! 😱 (edited) 2y
RaeLovesToRead Sorry, just realised their pronouns are they/them. Look forward to reading the book (and playing the trilogy again) 😊 2y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead Ooops, I didn‘t know their pronouns either. ☹️ Hope you enjoy the book! I don‘t recall it reminding me of Mass Effect or Dragon Age in any way, other than it features a team made up of several fascinating companions! 2y
RaeLovesToRead I'm always up for a fantasy heist ❤ 2y
PathfinderNicole I didn‘t know their pronouns either and changed my original comment accordingly! I can‘t wait to read this one, I might have to move it up my tbr… @RaeLovesToRead I still need to finish playing the legendary edition but I just don‘t want it to end yet!! 2y
RaeLovesToRead @PathfinderNicole On my phone it won't let me alter comments for some reason so I deleted mine and started again! 🤔🤔 I actually didn't get that far into mass effect the first time because I wouldn't leave the citadel until I'd scanned all those spidery things... and I couldn't find the last one 😭😄 Going to play the trilogy once I've finished Dishonored 2 😊 2y
DaveGreen7777 @RaeLovesToRead @PathfinderNicole I had such a love/hate relationship with the Citadel in Mass Effect 1! On the one hand, I loved the world building and the glimpse into so many characters lives. But on the other hand… WOW, was there a lot of superfluous fetch quests there, and the completionist in me felt compelled to do every single one! 😩 2y
