I enjoyed this read, an underwater, sci-fi, horror. I can't say I was scared, but I definitely felt claustrophobic at times. Had a haunting/ psychological horror element, lots of gore, and situations involving animals...

Well that was a read. Extreme horror/ splatterpunk. I enjoyed this. It obviously had over-the-top violence etc, but there was a storyline, it wasn't purely for shock value. It had a coming of age element to it. If you enjoy that genre I'd recommend it. I didn't realise it was a series, so I may look into that.

I have a love hate relationship with this one. This sweeping family saga was fantastic. Set over three generations, mainly in the Australian outback. All the joys and heartbreak expected over decades. Also I love all the different settings, not just the Outback. The part I didn't enjoy was the main "romance". It was a bit of a chunkster, but you just wanted to keep reading.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Venting time.. Meggie and Ralph's relationship was awful. He (a priest) basically groomed her as a child, then left her to advance his own career, she chooses her shitty husband because he kind of looks like Ralph, Ralph continues to pop into her life so she has no way of moving on, he breaks his vows and knocks her up, while she is married, but she doesn't tell him that it's his son, eventually sending Dane to Ralph... 1mo
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Just hoping he'll just figure it out on his own, then Dane dies tragically, so she throws it in Ralph's face that Dane was his son all along so he'll do what she wants him to, then he basically dies of heartbreak. What the actual f@$k!?!? I hate these kinds of "romances". So toxic and unhealthy. 1mo
GinaKButler I just picked this up at a used book sale…looking forward to reading it! 1mo
See All 6 Comments
ChaoticMissAdventures @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I honestly despised Ralph. This is what a groomer is. Totally gross, and for her to frame it as a romance? All of the parts they were together made me just angry. I remember my mom watching the miniseries and everyone swooning over the priest, and now all I can see is him as a predator. 1mo
Clare-Dragonfly I have the impression the “romance” is supposed to be okay because they don‘t have sex until she‘s a fully grown adult, but… 🤮 You described my feelings well! 1mo
CarolynM I read this as a 15 year old and even then I thought Ralph was thoroughly repulsive. I didn‘t see the grooming at the time, obviously, I just couldn‘t work out why Meggie was so keen on him. I‘m often bemused by what passes for romance with a lot of people. 4w

I have to admit that I wasn't really into this book at the beginning. Each book has a different writing style, so it was hard to get into, and hard to see how all these stories were going to connect. But of course it all worked in the end, it even had me tearing up.

Karisa Oh! I love those books so much! I was just mentioning Oryx and Crake at dinner when we were talking about lab grown meat made from animal cells. Atwood knew it was on the horizon! 2mo

Mira is heading back to the segregated town she left to attend her childhood friend's wedding. However she is not happy that the wedding is being held at a newly renovated plantation, and neither are the ghosts that haunt it. This was kind of slow and redundant in the first part. Took too long to get where it was going, but the haunting scenes were really good/horrific, very powerful. #bhm #horror
