ErinSueMreads This is one of my very favorites. I believe it was the second king I read. I have always thought it has some of the best character writing and absolutely one of the best openings I've ever read. 2w
BarkingMadRead @ErinSueMreads this is definitely a top 10 for me, reminds me a lot of the Stand 2w
ErinSueMreads Yes I agree! The narrative pacing and the "dark levels" have the same vibe! 2w
5feet.of.fury @ErinSueMreads I agree. So many different perspectives and individual motivations. Old, young, selfish, nurturing, honest, egomaniacal, Kids, teens, adults, elderly, Horace the Corgi. Everyone gets a chapter. It‘s really impressive. 2w
Karkar I forgot how much blood was at the beginning. I agree with you all - this is one of my favorites 2w
Bklover Still haven‘t finished it but it‘s a reread and I love this one! And I agree completely with @ErinSueMreads ! 2w
ErinSueMreads Oh @5feet.of.fury Horace the corgi is legit 🤣🤣🤣 2w
ErinSueMreads @karkar yesssss! But it's all so well used! Like it's horrible but man does it set the scene 2w
5feet.of.fury @ErinSueMreads Horace chapters were my favorite! It was really good. I was shocked by how straightforward and easy to follow it was with all the POVs. 2w

5feet.of.fury My personal Favorite Stories: The Cat From Hell, The Gingerbread Girl. Least Favorite: the Stationary Bike. 🚲 2mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury I totally agree on that 🚲 one! 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRun it made no sense! Couldn‘t wait for it to end. What were your faves? 2mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury gingerbread girl, the things they left behind, and the cat from hell 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRun The Things They Left Behind was good, NY Times at Discounted Rates was sweet but pretty predictable- especially considering how off the rails some of his stuff can get. 2mo
Bklover My favorites were The Cat From Hell and The Stationary Bike. I thought TSB was odd at first, until I figured out that the workers were actually inside him. Or at least that was my understanding. Anyway I also loved The Gingerbread Girl! Was fun revisiting this one. It‘s not one of my faves overall but the stories did keep me reading. 2mo

5feet.of.fury The beginning was such a bummer that I almost didn‘t go on. (Pam, The divorce, the DOG😩) but I ended up really enjoying it. 3mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury I know! Stephen King is so messed up! 3mo
ErinSueMreads Ohhhh the dogggg 😭😭😭😭 but in typical king fashion it gets so much worse 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I remember the first time I read it closing the book and setting it on the coffee table and staring at it when he finds out about Elsa. I knew it was coming from all the foreshadowing but still! @BarkingMadRun and @5feet.of.fury 3mo
BarkingMadRead @ErinSueMreads that was the worst, knowing it‘s coming never helps! It almost makes it worse! 3mo
ErinSueMreads Yessssss especially since the heavy foreshadowing started like 4 chapters prior! 3mo
ErinSueMreads Also going back to the first time i read it....did anyone else think it was going to a weirdly normal king book at first? Like the paranormal stuff really took me off guard for some reason. 3mo
BarkingMadRead @ErinSueMreads yes! I thought it was going to more like a cujo type of thing, something scary but real, and then wham! 3mo
5feet.of.fury @ErinSueMreads agree! The change in narration with the daughter “that was the last time we ever talked” 😭 and I was like “what he just saved her, she burned the picture!” Ugh. Everything after that became such a frenzy. Loved it @BarkingMadRun (edited) 3mo
5feet.of.fury @ErinSueMreads I did, Edgar was so tortured after the accident I thought it was going to be more of a war with his mind type of thing vs…. All the other things that happened. 3mo
ErinSueMreads @BarkingMadRun it really is a WHAM too! 3mo
ErinSueMreads @5feet.of.fury that literally hits you like a ton of bricks. Like physically feel your stomach drop out of your body. And yes! I thought it was going to be a psychological one too! And it's not even like he tries to hide that it won't be! The whole book gets progressively weirder! But for some reason my brain just avoided and avoided 🤣🤣🤣🤣 3mo
ErinSueMreads Also can we talk about how jack, wireman, miss Eastlake, and Edgar are literally some of the best characters he has ever written? Like we all know he's a strong character writer, but he really outdid himself on this one. Wireman especially is just so overtop yet so real at the same time. I want a wireman friend 3mo
ErinSueMreads Unless he comes with a moldy old mansion full of maybe vampires and porcelain dolls. If so so I'm out 3mo
ErinSueMreads Also also...ifso....since we were on the subject of iykyk @BarkingMadRun I'm almost deleted the last sentence in my previous post 🤣 3mo
BarkingMadRead @ErinSueMreads omg yes! Such vivid characters and everyone needs a wireman. I was really hoping for a Shawshank ending! 3mo
Addison_Reads I didn't get a chance to re-read this one but this discussion is making me want to go back to it soon. 3mo
Bklover @ErinSueMreads I agree- his characters are always wonderful but these are exceptional. I remember though the first time I read this the whole book felt weird as it doesn‘t take place in Maine. It still feels odd to me reading a SK book that takes place in Florida. I love this one though! 2mo
NikkiM5 I just finished the book, so I avoided the post until now. I loved this book. And totally agree, these are some of the best King characters; I loved them all. Except Pam, she can kick rocks in socks 🤣 2mo
BarkingMadRead @NikkiM5 I agree lol what a horrible human she is 2mo
NikkiM5 I admit she is a good “villain”. And despite the size of this book (I promise, I will be on time next month 😂 I need to check these page numbers) I did not want this book to end. And I loved looking up the artwork. That‘s also why I took so long, as usual, King had me googling a lot. Losing Wireman was pretty painful, ugh la loteria 😢 2mo
BarkingMadRead @NikkiM5 I love when I have to Google during a book, but it can often be such a rabbit hole! After this we are doing Under the Dome, but I think I‘m going to extend the time because it‘s THICK 2mo
NikkiM5 Yes and I am a sucker for Rabbit holes 🤣 I‘ve read Under the Dome, so I won‘t be late for that 2mo

ErinSueMreads I was literally just thinking about this 3mo
BarkingMadRead @ErinSueMreads I meant to post the other day and it skipped my mind! Luckily I remembered to order the book, I don‘t have this one yet! I think I read it and passed it on 😳 3mo
MatchlessMarie I‘ve never joined this tag, but I will give it a try for this one! 3mo
ErinSueMreads I found a first edition of this used and still in wonderful shape the other day actually 😍😍 3mo
5feet.of.fury Just snagged the audiobook, 15 hours is downright short for a Stephen King 😂 3mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury wow! That is short 🤣 3mo
Bklover Woohoo! 2mo
