Pickpick

I finally finished it! It's a low pick for me, but that might be my headspace right now. I should probably go back to Cozy Fantasy for a while. #LosersClub At least I met my one and only goal for the#SummersEnd readathon.

We are following our 9 year old protagonist Tricia as she is lost in the woods and it's her love for Tom Gordon, a famous baseball player, that pulls her through the ordeal.

Does Tricia read like a 9 year old girl? No. Does Tricia read like a 30 year old man? Yes. Am I mad about it? Not really no.

Im also not into baseball at all but again, I wasn't mad about it.

Not his best but far from terrible.

This summer, the in-person Constant Reader book club I attend read “It,” by Stephen King. It was an excellent choice for a summer read! Since the book is quite lengthy, our facilitator divided it into three parts to cover our meetings in July, August, and September. This was a reread for me, as I had first read it in 2017. I was delighted to reread “It” as I remembered loving it the first time.

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #cujo
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

Bookwormjillk One of my earliest memories is asking my Dad what he was reading and him teaching me what rabies was....

I thought this was okay, but it dragged a bit. I'm pretty sure I've read it before, but didn't remember much.

BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk this one always gets me because it‘s something that could totally happen 4d

BookwormAHN I remember reading this in 4th grade and the first few pages terrified me but I also remember me and my mother getting in an argument on how to spell damn and me showing it to her in the book 😸 4d
BookwormAHN I also agree that this is the most realistic of his terrors and all dogs should be vaccinated for rabies. 4d
BookwormAHN Also the monster/man in the closet is the same as the serial killer in The Dead Zone. 4d
BarkingMadRead @BookwormAHN yesssss I love a good Easter egg! 4d
5feet.of.fury @BookwormAHN lol for the vocal lesson 😂 and I agree, Cujo didn‘t want to be a bad dog. The whole thing is so upsetting. 4d
KathyWheeler I ended up feeling bad for Cujo as well as for the people in this novel. It does drag a little bit though. 3d
AllDebooks This one hit me hardest. I thought the pace was goid and added to the tension. My heart broke for Cujo. I was incensed at Tad's parents for not being more supportive. Both of them had the heebie jeebies around the cupboard and noticed the awful smell. There is no rational explanation, but I would not be putting my child in that room. 3d

I'm working through Fairy Tale right now, but I don't think I'll finish this weekend, so it'll carry over, then I have some library checkouts to work on.

Mehso-so

For a novella there was a lot of characters, details, world building, and intricate moments which is all King. There were one too many moments that were just slow and King felt the need to take up pages rather than paragraphs to describe the waiting in between the moments of action and character dialogue.

All in all, not my favorite but I finally got this off my TBR.

Lower end of the pick scale for me. Like many of King‘s books, it could have been a little shorter. I liked the way King handled a parent‘s love for their child. There is only a vague whisper of the supernatural in the story; the horror here is nature and illness. I saw a goat in someone‘s front yard on my walk. #audiowalk #LosersClub
