Unbelievably this is the last weekend in March coming up 😱 Time for our end of month #20in4 Readathon, and a chance to boost your reading before the month end.
Either aim to read 20 hours or 20 chapters over the four days, or even set your own goal. Both new readathoners and our regulars welcome for this fun, engaging and informal Readathon.

Want to take part, then share the goals and books you aim to read.

Clwojick This photo has me looking forward to spring! We just got another dump of two feet of snow. Sigh…. Hopefully we‘ll see flowers here in two months! 🌻 13mo
Clwojick Turns out I‘m training this weekend at work, so I‘m not sure how much I‘ll be able to read. Officially, I‘m going to go with “goal free”, but unofficially my secret goal is to finish any 8 books. 😉 13mo
CBee @Andrew65 it‘s a lovely poem! 13mo
RebelReader Heading to the farm to visit my Mom so not sure how much reading I‘ll get done. Maybe early morning or late at night. My goal is to finish the four books I‘ve already started. 13mo
Andrew65 @RebelReader Hope you have a great visit. 😁 13mo
Andrew65 @Clwojick 🥶 Even with the training, I back you to do it. 😁 13mo

Andrew65 @kezzlou85 I feel the same so was surprised to see how many books I had read, struggled with reading in the first half of the month. Best of luck for the Readathon and the rest of the month 😁 13mo
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 thanks so much. Trying a new blondie recipe tomorrow so something to enjoy whilst I read. 13mo
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Best of luck with that too. 13mo
TheSpineView I'm in! Don't think I will get much reading done since I am headed to FENCE in Tryon for another horse show tomorrow. At least some audio book time coming and going. We'll see. 13mo

#OnThisDay in 1802 a brother and sister stepped out for a walk. Sounds unremarkable, I know. But those siblings were William and Dorothy Wordsworth, and their walk that day by Ullswater inspired the words:
"I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."

"I wandered lonely as a cloud
Which floats on high o'er hill and dale,
When all at once I heard a roar
And saw the fighter jet's contrail"

There were three, perhaps four, fighter jets on practice manoeuvres over the Lakes around Rydale Water & Grasmere today, an unwelcome reminder of global conflict, & a sobering reminder of how terrifying it must be for those who hear that roar & know it's no practice run, but comes with intent to kill. ??

Lcsmcat I just started down the rabbit hole of online video lectures about Wordsworth last night. I learned this poem in elementary school, but by the time I was in high school the Romantics were out of favor. I feel like there‘s a real hole in my knowledge. 5y
EadieB @Lcsmcat I love Wordsworth. I have a whole collection of his poems! Enjoy your study of him! 5y
Velvetfur I have to admit I'm not generally into poetry but I have always loved this one 😊 5y

Crazeedi I learned this poem in second grade! And can still repeat it from memory. Funny how that was a big thing in elementary schools years ago-memorizing poems. "The Cow" was the first one I ever memorized @Lcsmcat 5y
Dragon I learned this one from Sunday morning cartoons. 😂 5y
Herschelian I think it is a pity that children today do not learn some poems by heart. (BTW I am not in the USA) Later in life it is a real joy to remember a poem or two. Back in my day (over 60yrs ago) we learnt quite a few. The one that comes to mind most often is ‘Ozymandies‘ - thought of it when Saddam Hussain was toppled, think of it now when Trump bores on about building a ‘great wall‘!! 5y

valeriegeary Ooooo! We still have a few weeks to go before our daffodils start popping. They're my favorite! 7y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @valeriegeary This one bunch is up by the house it's always my first one. But it's been unseasonably warm here in Oklahoma and there popping up all over the yard and my trees are leafing out. 7y

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

...

Tanner "And then my heart with pleasure fills / And dances with the daffodils." Never fails to make me smile. 8y
