This book takes place during the Spanish Flu Epidemic 1918 in Dublin in a large hospital that has maternity and flu patients mixed together. It takes place over 3 days and the writing is so good that you get invested in the characters who are well-developed. The book reminded me of Call The Midwife. I would have to say that it is Donoghue‘s best book so far. If you enjoy emotional reads, then you will enjoy this.

A Dark Mind | T. R. Ragan

#ADarkMind #TRRagan #20in4 #Readathon

This book is about a serial killer who is terrorizing Sacramento CA. Lizzy is compelled to go after the Lovebird Killer. It is a reminder for Lizzy Gardner who had an ordeal with the serial killer, Spiderman, in the past. I found this book to be the best book by far than the other two. Although it is more than gruesome and very dark, I found it hard-to-put-down and the other books hardly held my interest.

EadieB I enjoyed all the quotes at the beginning of the chapters that were references from other serial killers. I enjoy true crime books about serial killers so that was an added feature for me. I am looking forward to the next book in the series as the books seem to be getting better with each book. If you enjoy dark and gritty books, then I think you will enjoy this series. 3d
Elizabeth2 Another great review! I enjoyed those quotes, too. Definitely gruesome and gritty! 3d
Andrew65 Book 2 was my favourite in this series so far. 3d

This book is a prequel to the Cork O‘Connor series and takes place in 1963 and Cork is twelve-years-old. Cork‘s father, Liam O‘Connor, is Aurora Minnesota's sheriff and Cork helps his father solve a few murders. I have read and enjoyed Krueger's writing which is excellent throughout the whole series.

EadieB It was a great way to learn more about Cork's father and their father/son relationship. If you enjoy books about the wilderness then you will enjoy this award winning series. 5d

Mina is trying to focus on her job as a flight attendant and not the problems of her five-year-old daughter back home or the problems with her marriage. The inaugural nonstop flight between London and Sydney will take 20 hours. The plane has barely taken off when Mina receives a chilling threat from an anonymous passenger who is intent on ensuring the plane never reaches its destination.

EadieB Someone who needs Mina's assistance and who knows exactly how to make her comply. A lot can happen in 20 hours. You can save hundreds of lives, or the one that matters most. This is a page-turner with a surprise ending that I didn't see coming. It was a slow-start but once it took off the suspense began to build. 6d

Twenty years ago The Sinclair Sisters were taken. But what came after their return was far worse. Can a family ever recover, especially when not everyone is telling the truth? Leah‘s perfect marriage isn‘t what it seems but the biggest lie of all is that she‘s learned to live with what happened all those years ago. Marie drinks a bit too much to help her forget.

EadieB And Carly has never forgiven herself for not keeping them safe. This is a clever, twisted, fast-paced tale of characters with plenty of secrets. It is a suspenseful, psychological thriller which is full of high emotion which kept the pages turning for me. If you love books with surprise endings, then you will love this one! Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living in the woods. He still doesn't know where he comes from, and Naomi Pine is now missing. Naomi was bullied at school. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, asks Wilde to use his unique skills to help find Naomi. Wilde must venture back into the community where he has never fit in in order to find Naomi.

EadieB I loved reading about Hester again, a character from Coben's Myron Bolitar series. This book was very entertaining with twists that kept me interested. It had great humor that Coben is noted for and interesting characters. The ending was a complete surprise that I did not see coming. I'm looking forward to visiting again with Wilde in the near future. 2w

No One Goes Alone | Erik Larson

#NoOneGoesAlone #ErikLarson
#DoubleSpin #NovelNovember

This is Erik Larson's first attempt at Fiction. It is a ghost story grounded in history. Psychologist William James leads an expedition to a remote isle in search of answers after a family vanishes. Was the cause rooted in the physical world or were there forces more paranormal and sinister at work? It is only available on audio, because Larson says, ghost stories are best told aloud.

EadieB This book really didn't work for me. It wasn't really scary and I was a bit bored at times. I enjoyed the story but I think he should stick to what he does best, historical mysteries. 2w

It's 2017 & Carly wants to find out what happened to Aunt Viv as she mysteriously disappeared from the Sun Down before Carly was born.

EadieB Carly moves to Fell, New York and visits the motel. She soon finds herself involved with the same mysteries that claimed her aunt. This is a creepy ghost story and mystery full of secrets. It is a dark and twisted story with an ending I didn't see coming. The story switches back and forth between 1982 and 2017 with two points of view. 2w

This is the 3rd book in the William Warwick series. Detective Inspector, William Warwick is asked to go undercover in order to investigate the corruption of the Metropolitan Police Force. His team (Detective Rebecca Pankhurst and Detective Nicky Bailey) is focused on following Detective Jerry Summers but Nicky ends up in love with Jerry which complicates things.

EadieB Assem Rashidi goes on trial, defended by Booth Watson QC, while William‘s father Sir Julian and sister Grace lead the prosecution case. William‘s wife Beth, makes a new friend in Christina Faulkner, the ex-wife of criminal financier Miles Faulkner. Faulkner dies suddenly of a heart attack and Christina inherits his estate. William soon learns that the corruption runs deeper than he thought. 2w

Jeffrey Archer's Hidden in Plain Sight is the second novel in the William Warwick series featuring Detective William Warwick, a character from his series The Clifton Chronicles. William has been promoted to Detective Sergeant. He has been reassigned to the Drugs Squad. They are tasked with apprehending Khalil Rashidi, a notorious drug dealer. William runs into old enemies.

EadieB Adrian Heath is now a street dealer. Financier Miles Faulkner makes a mistake that could finally see him put behind bars. William and his fiancée Beth enjoy making preparations for their upcoming wedding. This book is not a detective story but a story about Detective Warwick. It is a family saga with interesting characters. 2w

Rachel finds a body in the woods and is considered a prime suspect because the victim is identified as her boyfriend's estranged wife. 20 years ago, Rachel was Casey, a young nanny trying to make it as an actress in Los Angeles. TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3w
EadieB She narrowly escaped the death penalty and managed to free herself on appeal and changed her name to Rachel. Now she‘s fighting to save the life she‘s spent years putting back together. Was her discovery in the woods really just a coincidence, or is someone framing her for murder? Someone who knows she is Casey, and wants revenge. The head of Scotland‘s most powerful crime family is brutally murdered, his body dumped inside an ancient grave in a remote cemetery. Detectives Max Craigie and Janie Calder arrive at the scene, a small town where everyone has secrets to hide. They soon realise this murder is part of a blood feud between two Scottish families that stretches back to the 1800s.

EadieB Now Max and Janie must turn against their closest colleagues. This book is a complete page turner. It grabbed me from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat. #TheVanishedDays #SusannaKearsley #BookSpinBingo

The Vanished Days is a prequel to The Winter Sea. It goes back in time to the 1680s and introduces the reader to the Moray and Graeme families. King James has been exiled and there is a new Union with England. In 1707, the French are preparing to launch an invasion to bring the young exiled Jacobite king back to Scotland to reclaim his throne.

EadieB Queen Anne's commissioners have begun paying out money sent up from London to settle the losses and wages owed to those Scots who took part in the disastrous Darien expedition eight years earlier. It was an ill-fated venture that left Scotland all but bankrupt. Lily Aitcheson comes forward to collect her husband's wages but her claim is challenged. 3w
EadieB Adam Williamson is assigned to investigate and to decide if she's telling the truth. The chapters switch back and forth from the 1680's and 1707. Kearsley has done excellent research. The surprise ending is an interesting plot twist. If you like historical tales of adventure, endurance, romance and hope, then you will enjoy this book. I thought I would listen to this audiobook because it‘s due back to the library on Tuesday. I got to the 2nd CD and the author‘s characters are discussing The Oppressor and The Oppressed, a Woke Liberal concept that I don‘t buy into. Decided to research the author and found out she refuses to allow a Hebrew translation for Israeli publishers. How racist is that? So tired 💤 of this garbage! Hypocrite!

#LittleBones #PatriciaGibney #BookSpinBingo

This is the 10th book of the Lottie Parker series. It can be read as a standalone as I enjoyed it and haven't read any of the other books in the series. But in order to connect better with the characters, it is a good idea to read the series in order. It is a police procedural set in Ragmullin, Ireland. It was a fast-paced plot with lots of secrets and kept me guessing until the very end.

EadieB The case is complex as there are two different investigations going on at the same time. Isabel Gallagher has been found dead by her mother, Anita Boland, but her new-born daughter, Holly, was not harmed. Joyce Breslin, Isabel's friend, has also been found murdered and her son, Evan, is missing. Also, a walker discovers child bones on a hill under a tree. Are all these events connected? That's what Lottie and her crew need to find out. 1mo
EadieB We end up with lots of suspects from all the well-developed characters. The book has themes of domestic abuse, self-harm and violence against children. The book ended with a cliffhanger regarding Lottie's relationship with DS Boyd so I am looking forward to the next installment. If you enjoy mysteries which are emotionally gripping, then you will enjoy this book. I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for a free copy for an honest review. 1mo

My husband‘s brother bought him a very small plot in Wigtownshire Scotland near Wigtown where they hold a book festival every autumn. In Wigtown there is a secondhand bookshop on every corner. Check this out:

EadieB @wanderinglynn It was a depressed town in the 90‘s and so they are selling land to build up their economy. It is a great idea! 1mo
Crazeedi @EadieB what a cool thing! I'd love to visit the bookshops! And drink tea on your land! Does your brother in law live in Scotland? 1mo

EadieB @Andrew65 Did you decide what you are going to do about your job? 1mo
Andrew65 @EadieB Back at work fully from today. Now exhausted. Will be handing in my notice later this month, with a finishing date of 1st April. 1mo
EadieB @Andrew65 Wow! That's a big decision! Do you have any plans for after April? 1mo
Andrew65 @EadieB We are going to travel over the Spring and Summer first of all. Then looking at various options including selling second hand books on line or day trading, and possibly some education work, but most probably leaving that career totally. Will have been a principal for almost 20 years by the time I leave so time for a new phase in my life. Not planning to access pension for a few years. I‘m 56 later this month. (edited) 1mo
Andrew65 Bonus of day trading is that if we want to can do much of this whilst travelling. Always wanted to become more professional in that area. My successful investing means we can easily survive for a few years before accessing any pensions so no real concerns. 1mo
EadieB @Andrew65 That's great! I'm really happy for you! Sounds like some good ideas! 1mo
Andrew65 @EadieB Thanks, we‘ve spent a lot of time over the past 4 weeks discussing it. Really made the decision the day I had to take my wife to A+E, can‘t keep putting us both to this high level of risk. Things we want to do so time to get on and do them before it‘s too late. Will be paying off our mortgage this week, although not that much left on it. Only guilt will be leaving staff, but need to make the decision that is right for us. 1mo
Andrew65 COvID means I can‘t do the job in the way I need to do it and it‘s just not the sane. Might as well go to work in a box! Not good for mental health and well being. Will also allow more time for reading. (edited) 1mo
EadieB @Andrew65 That would be hard to leave a staff that has been so loyal to you but like you said, you have to do what is right for your family. You will finally get a real chance to enjoy reading your books without the feeling of the weekend will be over soon and I will have to return to work. No clouds hanging over your head and all the stress your job always laid upon you. Free at last! Free at last! lol 1mo
Andrew65 Free at last! Lol! 1mo
EadieB @Andrew65 I'm sure that when your MP finds out you are leaving, they will offer you the sun, moon and stars to stay as they know that you have given your all to your job. 1mo
Andrew65 @EadieB Thanks, a lovely thing to say. All I‘ve known so will be very different. 1mo
EadieB @Andrew65 You shouldn't have any regrets as you are so talented and have such great ideas. I have confidence that you will be a success at whatever you decide to do. (edited) 1mo
Andrew65 @EadieB Thanks :))) 1mo
EadieB @Andrew65 I think you should think about writing a book. Maybe about your experiences as a headmaster or an ideas book for other headmasters. (edited) 1mo
