Star Father | Charlie N. Holmberg

Pickpick

This is my first time reading Holmberg‘s work and I can‘t believe I‘ve waited until now. The writing is beautiful and soothing, the plot is well crafted, and the characters are lovable. I would recommend Star Father to fantasy lovers, especially if you like reading about gods, godlings, celestial beings, and the feeling of discovering and being involved in something far greater than yourself.

January wrapped up! I read two audiobooks, one ebook, one physical copy and one reread, which is a lot to me in a month! RoseBlood is a new fave and I highly recommend it! I finished reading it during #20in4 Readathon. Overall it's a great month of reading 📚

RoseBlood | A. G. Howard

This book. So beautiful yet tragic. I love The Phantom of the Opera and this? This is another Phantom in the making. Another poor soul, stripped of the love and kindness he's supposed to receive.

I know the quote is long but I just love this passage so much. Continue in comments.

"Today, you become someone new. From this moment on, you belong to the underworld, from which you were born. You are something monstrous, but beautiful.

LaurelChandler Something fierce, yet fragile. You are Thorn. The part of the rose that is unloved... that everyone fears for its ability to bring a soul to bleed. [...] It is a falsity, that monsters are the instigators of all the evil in the world. Our kind is capable of acceptance and mercy where mankind is not. For we see beyond the surface, as we live beneath it." 2y

I love every aspect of this book! Badass woman warriors, complicated rescuing schemes, near-death adventures, and so much more! I love the emotional struggles within both Lara and Aren, as well as their complicating feelings for each other. The length they were willing to sacrifice for each other, even knowing they couldn't be together, was even more romantic to me than the previous book! I cried at the ending 😭

1. Finished reading Frozen Hearts and Death Magic this weekend. Haven't decided what to read next!
2. The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen
3. Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry

Thanks @DannyDan for the tag!

@rachelsbrittain #weekendreads

DannyDan The Bridge Kingdom was fantastic,😍🤩 wasn't it! The 2nd book was even better! The political intrigue, to me was the best part! 2y
LaurelChandler @DannyDan To be honest I wasn't impressed by the first book... but the Traitor Queen really got me. It was the perfect sequel and it had everything I wanted to read! I cried like a baby at the ending 😭 Overall I really enjoy the duology! Need to read book three soon! 2y

This one is between a Pick and a So-So. I love the second half of the book, but struggled through the first half. Some characters felt flat to me while others I adored. The execution of their conflicted emotions could also have been better. However, I loved the uniqueness and the variety of magic, and the plots is thrilling. Overall it was a fun read and I can't wait for book 2!

*My thanks to the author for the review copy

Mehso-so

It was a decent enemies-to-lovers but not worth the hype. The plot was a bit predictable and I wish there were more world-building and things other than romance.

I will read the sequel but probably won't reread

Happy New Year everyone!!

Here is my top 6 (10 actually, with the entire Stalking Jack the Ripper series) of 2021! I branched out to other genres and more indie authors this year, and was pleasantly surprised by the results 😊 Can't wait to read more in 2022!

I'm totally in love with this book! The Shattered Castle is the final book to The Ascendance series, which I highly recommend!

I love how this book digs deeper into Jaron's past, and how well it connects with the previous four books and wraps up the series perfectly. The personality arcs are both touching and inspiring. The plot is super fast-paced and with lots of plot twist that makes me scream a lot!

BookmarkTavern Thanks for the tag! ❤️👻❤️ Yeah, BookSpin is great for knocking stuff off of TBR lists! There are also a bunch of readathons going on you could jump on board with! (edited) 3y
TheAromaofBooks Hey there!! I host #BookSpin & do have a master post about the challenge here - https://www.litsy.com/web/post/1989556 - but just let me know if you have any questions!! October is a little crazy on Litsy because of #Scarathlon, a month-long reading frenzy where participants have divided into two teams & are trying to earn points for their team by reading books, participating in readathons, & completing challenges. So there are a lot of hashtags ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) flying around!! 😂 But if anything catches your eye, just ask whoever posted about it - almost everyone around here is happy to share info/explain how to join!! One of my favorite readathons is coming up later this month - @Andrew65 hosts a monthly readathon that lasts for a week. You set your own goals (amount of time reading, pages read, books read, etc.) & check in with him throughout the week by posting about your progress!! There ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) are a lot of readathons & activities similar to that going on. Anyway, hope you find some challenges/readathons/shenanigans that fit your reading style & feel free to ask if you have any questions!!! 3y
LaurelChandler Thank you @Eggs for pointing the way! And thank you @TheAromaofBooks your explanation are so clear and helpful! #BookSpin sounds fun though I'm guessing I'm too late to join this month? 3y
Andrew65 You‘d be welcome to join our #OutstandingOctober Readathon where you can set your own goals. It is very informal and friendly. You can dip in or out as much as you want to. This is the link to the Readathon post. https://litsy.com/p/Y2xhZlZyRFNF 3y
Andrew65 If you want to take part in a shorter Readathon we do a four day Readathon at the end of each month, #20in4, where takes place other 4 days. Aim to read 20 hours in 4 days, or 20 chapters, or set your own goal. This will take place from 28th October - 31st October. Again very friendly and informal. 3y
LaurelChandler @Andrew65 Thank you for the info! A friendly and informal challenge is just what I need now! I will be participating! 3y
Andrew65 @LaurelChandler Will be great to have you with us. 😊 3y
Andrew65 @LaurelChandler I will add you to the people i tag in when I post about it. 3y
TheAromaofBooks You are still welcome to join in for October's BookSpin if you want!! All you need is a list of 20 books and then I can tag you in this month's posts. Or if that feels a little rushed, I can add you to the tag list so you'll get a reminder when it's time to post November's list. My rules are very relaxed 😂 3y
LaurelChandler @TheAromaofBooks Please add me to the tag list! I'll start planning my 20 books list now and join in November! Thank you 😊 3y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! I usually tag everyone with a reminder about a week before I draw the numbers. You're on the list!! 3y
LaurelChandler @TheAromaofBooks Yay thank you! Looking forward to November! 3y

This book is not just about a young man‘s journey in battling cancer. This is a book that explores the meaning of life and death. I was moved beyond words and thought so much about my own life. How lucky I‘m and how much there is still to chase. Yet the most important thing is to love the ones around you.

I believed When Breath Becomes Air is a book that you have to read at least once in a lifetime.

Happy book birthday!

The Water Catcher's Rise is the second book in The Kyprian Prophecy series. It has everything you want from a YA fantasy series: cool magic, intriguing plot, fresh characters and sweet romance. The strong personality arc of not only the MCs but also the side characters is very inspiring. Recommended!! Full review in bio

Many thanks to the author for the ARCs for an honest review
