Daisy Jones and The Six | Taylor Jenkins Reid

Pickpick

Told as the written form of a docudrama, this touches on the personal lives of a 1970s fictional rock band. The amazing audio version amplifies personality traits of characters, especially Daisy & Billy, who are both egotistical yet insecure. Daisy is described this way, “She‘s gorgeous—even as a child. She has these stunning big blue eyes—dark, cobalt blue.“ Based on the bookcovers, you'd never know it, so that is my one small quibble. #audiobook

marleed A couple years back I read TJR describe Daisy as a cross between Stevie Nicks and Linda Ronstadt. I love that Elvis Presley‘s granddaughter portrays Daisy in the adaptation- what a great tribute to music. 5h
Ann_Reads @marleed Thank you for mentioning that. I didn't realize Riley Keough is Elvis Presley's granddaughter. I hope the Amazon miniseries stays true to the book. 2h

Dombey & Son | Charles Dickens
post image
Mehso-so

Mr. Dombey is part of the social elite who pins all his hopes on a son joining his business, while ignoring the existence of his daughter. I really liked the opening chapters but eventually most of the characters felt like caricatures. The good were angelic and the absurd were very absurd, but many seemed one dimensional. The end of the story does offer some redemption. A Christmas Carol still remains my favorite novel by Dickens. #classic

The Age of Innocence | Edith Wharton

Have my initial #192025 reading list for the 1920s & 1930s done. I'm trying to add several options per year, so I have some flexibility. Never know what I'm going to be in the mood to read. 📙 😏
@Librarybelle

Librarybelle This looks awesome! 5d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I am looking through some of my books and making a preliminary list, too. I may have to get a buddy read going for The Age of Innocence. @TheBookHippie has it on her list, too, and I haven't read Wharton before so I was thinking of going that route. 3d
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I‘m up for a buddy read for sure! 3d

Ann_Reads @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TheBookHippie I think @Graywacke and @Lcsmcat will eventually be getting to The Age of Innocence in their #WhartonBuddyRead, though it might be during 2023? Up next is, The Custom of the Country, followed by Summer, then The Marne, and finally The Age of Innocence. 3d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick That's great! I am garbage at coming up with questions & sticking to a schedule so I'm happy to hop in whenever it happens. We've got 3.5 years to finish the challenge. I think I have others to read. 🤣 3d
TheBookHippie @Ann_Reads that‘s fine by me . 2023. 3d
Lcsmcat @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick You‘re welcome to join us for any of the Whartons. 3d

I think this lovely illustrated book should have a place in every child's (and parent's) library. Especially now, sometimes us adults mentally need to take a walk back in time and visit the comforting world of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

A book worth checking out just based on the lovely botanical cover. Marta McDowell writes about Frances Hodgson Burnett‘s various gardens and how they influenced her stories, especially The Secret Garden. This well-researched book is conversational in tone & there are loads of gorgeous photos. This makes a great companion piece to The Secret Garden by Burnett but be aware there are spoilers in this nonfiction book. #gardens #nonfiction #coverlove

Graywacke This sounds great 3w
Ann_Reads @Graywacke Thanks! :-) I really enjoyed it. I hope more readers discover this gem. 3w
