June's #20in4 Readathon starts today! I'm going to aim to read/listen for 10 hours over the next 4 days. I have several books started hopefully, I can finish one or two. @Andrew65
Another good installment in this series. Veronica and Stoker investigate a personal matter for Sir Hugo Montgomerie and encounter old passions. I love these books, it's one of the two series I'm up-to-date on.
A quiet, gentle story about life in a neighborhood of Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. It explores the effect the genocide and AIDS had on the community through the eyes of Angel, a professional somebody, who runs a cake-baking business. I enjoyed this and look forward to reading the second book. It was also my #Bookspin book for June. #ReadingAfrica2022 #Rwanda @TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
This is a blend of fantasy and historical fiction that expands the myth of Yemaya, a Yoruba goddess. She falls in love with a human, and when enslavers capture him, she follows him to America. I enjoyed the story, although I thought the end was a little rushed. #Booked2022 #BlackOwnedImprintOrPublisher @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
This is a collection of short stories in a variety of genres. I thought most of the stories were interesting, but a couple did make me realize again I really don't like horror. #Booked2022 #TitleRepeatsItself @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
I listened to this from Hoopla and it had music in the background throughout the story that I found distracting. The story was Ok but I don't think I'll continue the series.
I'm still behind, but thanks for the tag @Andrew65
1. I think they are mostly interchangeable, but a writer might be someone who writes for themselves, while an author makes it available for anyone to read.
2. Not really. I sometimes struggle to find the words for a short review.
#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView
A little late, but here are my May #BookSpinBingo results. I read 8 books including my #BookSpin - An Argumentation of Historians. @TheAromaofBooks
Although I like her books, this isn't my favorite Anne Hillerman. Jim Chee and Bernie Manuelito are separated and working on two different mysteries. Each mystery is interesting but it felt like two books instead of one cohesive story. I'm using this for #Booked2022 #MakeYourOwnPrompt - A favorite author. @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
I picked this one because of the cover. Suzy is bored living on a farm in small-town Michigan and dreams of adventure. Her uncle starts to work for an eccentric elderly lady who owns ostriches. Suzy tags along one day and eventually finds her adventure. It was a cute middle-grade story.
Things have been a little crazy lately and I'm behind on my reviews so here comes a bunch. First, this graphic novel in verse. Ava is an Iranian-American teen living in California. She loves surfing, singing, and poetry. She is also learning to navigate friendships old and new, her mother's expectations, and illness. I liked it.
#MarvellousMay report - I finished both the books on the left and have about 100 pages left in The Sacred Bridge. I didn't touch Shallow Waters. @Andrew65
Did you know most earthworms in the U.S. are non-native, including nightcrawlers? I picked this because I enjoy Stewart's Kopp Sisters books. She made worms interesting and I learned how important they are. First book finished for #MarvellousMay @Andrew65
Listening to this felt like I was eavesdropping on two old friends just chatting about music. I liked the addition of Dolly singing parts of the song they were talking about.
The crew at St Mary's is determined to trap their enemy Clive Ronan and use a trip to Persepolis as a decoy. Of course, their plan goes wrong and Max gets kidnapped and sent back to St Mary's in 1399. Another great installment in the series. My May #BookSpin book. @TheAromaofBooks
Many years ago, I made a quick trip to Leadville while visiting Colorado. I've been intrigued with it since. This is set in the 1880s when Leadville was at its height and involves murder and treachery. I liked it and will continue the series, but at a little over 400 pages, it took me a while to read.
I didn't read too many books in April but at least I read both #BookSpinBingo books. @TheAromaofBooks
Would you believe a story about a 1913 copper mine strike could be both compelling and tragic? The author pulls it off in this great book. Calumet, MI is a company-owned town whose miners are endangered by the mine's policies. They form a union and stage a strike. It was hard to read in places and some of the characters made me mad, but overall it was outstanding. I'm glad I finally read it.
#WeRemember #StephenSondheim wrote the lyrics for Leonard Bernstein's reimagining of Romeo and Juliet @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
The author did an excellent job of taking what little is known about Nefertiti and turning it into an intriguing story. She follows Nefertiti's life through the eyes of her sister. I'll definitely read more of this author's books. #ReadingAfrica2022 #Egypt #AlmostAChunksterChallenge (464 pages). It was also my March #DoubleSpin for #BookSpinBingo @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB @TheAromaofBooks
This is the story of Hamish Charles Sutherland Fraser's school days, a socially awkward boy who tries his best and sometimes triumphs. He struggles with making friends, bullies, and academics. I liked it, but I think I would have gotten out of it if I was more familiar with South African schools and sports. #ReadingAfrica2022 #SouthAfrica #Booked2022 #AuthorBornInAfrica @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
#AwesomeApril wrap-up. I finished Reggie & Me and am about halfway through Nefertiti. Both are good. @Andrew65
Another book on the Iditarod on my TBR pile. #WeRemember #GaryPaulsen @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
#AwesomeApril starts today! I'm planning on reading these two books over the 9 days and maybe a third. I haven't picked my next #ThingsInCommon read yet. @Andrew65
My next read is Reggie & Me. #ThingsInCommon - Musicians. James Hendry is a South African author, safari guide, and musician. It will also be my first book for #ReadingAfrica2022 @Clwojick @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
I mostly liked this, but there weren't any poems that spoke to me like his music does and it was kind of short. I would have thought he'd written more poems. My #BookSpin book for April. @TheAromaofBooks
This was good, but for some reason, I didn't connect with the story as much as with her other two books. #BookSpinBingo #DoubleSpin @TheAromaofBooks
I finally decided on my April #BookSpin list. I'm also going to try #ThingsInCommon from @Clwojick It's going to be an interesting month. @TheAromaofBooks
I've been all over the place with my #Booked2022 reading. @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
(I've sent in the form)
This comes out on April 12th. I can't wait to read it. #SavvySettings #Bridge @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
@Eadie Thanks for the tag
