Great read to finish my summer holidays! I enjoyed the crime/mystery part but even more I enjoyed the family drama and how it's told from three different perspectives. I found all three voices interesting and liked how they added more and more details to the story.

The last couple of months have been a bit stressful and there's been too many things not going as planned so I've been taking a break from social media but now we're on our summer vacation and I'm feeling a bit more relaxed. We've just been on a city break to Bruges with the beautiful houses and lovely canals but now we're home and I have lots of time to read some books.
Next I need to update some of my challenges I've neglected the last months 😊

This was my grandmother's book and it was published in Denmark in 1969. I guess 50 years is old for a book and it's starting to fall apart. But I hope it'll make it through the #EoE #buddyread 🤞So far I'm enjoying it and I look forward to hear thoughts and opinions from all of you 😊

I'm up early this morning trying to finish this one so I can start reading East of Eden for the #buddyread.
My #BookFitnessChallenge has sort of went downhill the last weeks. I've been super busy with work and our kitchen project which has cost us some headaches so I haven't had the desire to work out and I've just been 😴.
I'm trying to decide whether I should join next #bfc...

Cinfhen I know you really like this author @TrishB ❣️ 4mo
Marina_h @Cinfhen I finished it this afternoon but I wasn't too impressed. I liked the idea behind it and the story felt new compared to other WWII books but I don't think Ben Elton is a historical fiction writer. I like his more humorous and sarcastic books though, but I felt this was a bit tedious and repetitive. Now I'm ready for East of Eden 😊 4mo
Marina_h @wanderinglynn I think I'll join but I'll be lowering my fitness goals and focus more on yoga and maybe try setting some goals for meditation as well. 4mo

I wasn't a fan of this one. It started out strong but the pacing of the book seemed off. And I really didn't like the main character.
This was my first book by Ruth Ware. Maybe I'll give her another chance but this isn't a book I would recommend.

This is such a hyped book but it didn't really work for me. I didn't care for the main character at all. The writing was poor or maybe it was the translation, either way I was close to DNF'ing it several times. I guess it didn't help that science fiction isn't really my thing.

I wanted to love this book and I understand why it's considered an important novel but it didn't really work for me. Marina_h @hilded I definitely didn't read for 24 hours 🤣 Life always gets in the way! 9mo
hilded I struggle a bit with reading on my phone/pad, hurts my eyes too much. So mostly reading physical books and audio. The Kindle is great for travelling though, and those free classics. 9mo
Marina_h @hilded I always change the light on my tablet or phone. In the daytime the light is okay, but if I read on my phone in bed at night I quickly get tired and can feel it in my eyes. 9mo

#20thingsaboutme

Number 21: I found it really difficult coming up with 20 things 😊

Mitch I‘m addicted to Australian Masterchef! 9mo
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego If you don't already follow dswt on Instagram (Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya). It's an elephant rehabilitation centre. We fostered one last Xmas (Enkesha) and then went to visit her last summer. Such an amazing experience! 🐘 9mo
sudi I love Masterchef too, my favorites are Australia and USA 9mo
See All 11 Comments
Marina_h @Mitch @sudi Australian Masterchef is my favourite as well! But we have to wait half a year or so before it's shown in Tv here, so I've only just started the 2018 series. 9mo
Marina_h @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego that sounds amazing! I already follow them and I love what they do to help elephants. I have a soft spot for Maarifa the baby rhino 😍 9mo
sudi @Marina_h same here, it's so weird, we get to view game of thrones within 12 hours of it's USA premiere but they can't show Masterchef that early 😒 9mo
Eggs Welcome to Litsy 🌺 9mo
hilded You‘ve never read Harry Potter?! Wow! 😂 I‘ve only read it once myself (when they came out), so I think I need to re-read soon! 9mo
Marina_h @hilded yeah I'm one of the few. I plan on reading them one day so I can get an idea of what everybody is raving about 😁 9mo
hilded Maybe 2019 is the year, most of them should fit well with your chonk plan this year I think 😊 9mo
Marina_h @hilded There's an idea 👍 I'll have to see if I can borrow them from the library 9mo

This was great 👍 Classics are often a hit or miss for me, but this was definitely a hit. The characters, the setting, the atmosphere... I loved it all. I did think the ending dragged a bit but that's quickly forgotten! #recommend #aroundtheyearin52books

Second Life | S. J. Watson

Panpan

I didn't really enjoy "Before I go to sleep" but this one I liked even less. I found it slow and the main character annoying. I don't think I'll be recommending this book and I'm in no hurry to read any other book by S.J. Watson.

RadicalReader @Marina_h this title of this version in French? Beautiful!! 9mo
Marina_h @RadicalReader no it's Danish 😊 9mo
RadicalReader @Marina_h never been good at telling one from the other. How did you learn English or is English your primary language and you‘re learning Danish? 9mo
See All 7 Comments
Marina_h @RadicalReader Danish is my first language but we learn English in school. I also learned German and Spanish but I haven't used those two languages since I left school so I wouldn't be able to have a conversation today 😊 9mo
RadicalReader @Marina_h your English is absolutely excellent. I have heard it is a really hard language to learn for those who are learning it. I learned four years of Spanish in school and I prefer writing it to speaking it because I can think clearly and be able to focus more on what I‘m saying than coming up with something off the top of my head 9mo
Marina_h @RadicalReader it's the same for me with English. It's much easier when you have time to think about it. But my husband is from Northern Ireland so when we visit his family I get to practice talking it 😊 I wish I could still write and read in Spanish 9mo
RadicalReader @Marina_h it‘s interesting to hear a language with different accents especially English. Very unique that each country can have their own accent and still be speaking the same language. 9mo

This weekend has been freezing cold so I've been snuggled up with this #chunkster under my homemade blanket! I might have to find an audiobook again so I can #readandcrochet at the same time

BarbaraBB Such a great read 💜💜 9mo
BarbaraBB Do you read this for the ATY challenge? Which prompt? 9mo
Marina_h @BarbaraBB I think I'll use it for a book with a stong sense of place. I think it fits really well for that prompt but there are a few other possibilities like untraditional written and 1001 books to read! 9mo
See All 15 Comments
BarbaraBB Yes you‘re right. It also fits Something Old, Published before 1950... anyhow, I hope you‘ll enjoy it, I really loved this one! 9mo
Marina_h @BarbaraBB I have a hard time putting it down 😊 I'm not always a fan of the classics but this one is great! 9mo
BarbaraBB I know what you mean. I went in with zero expectations and then it turned out to be such a great book! 9mo
Kalalalatja I have this on my shelf, but can‘t get myself to pick it up. Good to know it‘s a good read! 9mo
ProfReader Welcome to Litsy!! 9mo
Lcsmcat I love this book, and the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical adaptation! 9mo
erzascarletbookgasm This is a good one, I really, liked it! Great read. 9mo
Marina_h @Kalalalatja absolutely, it's worth reading. I've had it on my TBR for years but I'm glad I finally started reading it 📚 9mo
Marina_h @Lcsmcat I would love to see the musical at some point. Maybe if I one day go to London 😍 9mo
MayJasper Your blanket is gorgeous 9mo
Marina_h @MayJasper thank you ? I'm really pleased with the result myself and it's just something special when you can say "I made this" 9mo
MayJasper I am pleased for you. I am not very good at finishing projects. 9mo

Pretty Girls: A Novel | Karin Slaughter

Pickpick

I finished this one for the psychological thriller prompt for #aroundtheyearin52books. I like Karin Slaughter's books and this was also enjoyable. Some find it too graphic but it wasn't an issue for me. The psychological part was lacking a bit in my opinion but it's a good thriller.

4thhouseontheleft Way to fill a lot of challenge prompts with one book! I love when that happens. 9mo
Pricel101 Great post! I love her short stories best! This one 💔 @4thhouseontheleft what do you think? 9mo
tracey38 I loked this one, too. 9mo

BarbaraTheBibliophage Great job! 👊🏻✔️📚♥️ 9mo
Marina_h @4thhouseontheleft exactly, I always try to use a book for as many challenges as possible 9mo
Marina_h @Pricel101 I didn't even know she wrote short stories as well. I might have to see if I can find any of those! 9mo

My first chunkster of the year! Enjoyable but a bit too long... but first task for the #aroundtheyearin52books challenge is completed. That's enough history lesson for now so next up is a psychological thriller.

#ATY2019

Crazeedi I have this ready to read next! 9mo
