Day 16 - #song #TheSoundofSilence #SimonandGarfunkel #PoetryMatters

The poem consists of five irregular stanzas in which the poet describes the conflict between spiritual and material values in our modern world. It begins with an address to darkness. The narrator says that he has come to talk to it because a certain vision has planted its seeds in his brain while he was sleeping. The vision still remains there in the sound of silence.

Cathythoughts I love this song ♥️👍🏻 (edited) 17h
gradcat @Cathythoughts Me, too, and I know of several other singers and/or bands who have covered it—all beautifully. This song must lend itself to alternative arrangements, but I‘ll listen to any & all of them—with relish! ♥️ 16h

The Lady of Shallot

From the bank and from the river
He flashed into the crystal mirror,
‘Tirra lirra ‘ by the river
Sang Sir Lancelot.

Reminded of this poem recently while reading the tagged book ✨✨✨✨✨

From “The Demiurge‘s Laugh”

“It was far in the sameness of the wood;/I was running with joy on the Demon‘s trail,.../The Demon arose from his wallow to laugh,/Brushing the dirt from his eye as he went;/And well I knew what the Demon meant./I shall not forget how his laugh rang out./I felt as a fool to have been so caught,.../Thereafter I sat me against a tree.”

From “The Batman Who Laughs”

“To win you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. You see...a Batman who laughs...is a Batman who always wins.”

I got so caught up in finding quotes related to Batman (I don‘t know why, it just happened). I will now find poetry that relates to this post‘s quote, thereby redeeming myself?

I wrote down this excerpt from Virgil‘s Aeneid book 6 a long time ago, and now have no clue whose translation it is.
