A more sombre book than its prequel PS, I Love You, Postscript is set seven years after the death of Holly‘s husband and portrays how she has coped, and is still coping, with life, love and loss. A large portion of this book is incredibly sad with many lump-in-your-throat moments, but oh my goodness the final few chapters! The author has handled this type of storytelling with truth and compassion and the narration was excellent ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A really good story of how one woman copes with the death of her husband through letters he wrote before his passing. There‘s also support from family and friends who help Holly as she navigates through life seeking work, holiday fun and Christmas celebrations, all without her childhood sweetheart. This book will be a particular hit with fans of Jojo Moyes. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Freespirit Lovely movie also! 2d

An incredibly powerful story of a time that was so unpleasant. Faulks weaves a fictional tale with actual events to make the story resonate and can‘t help but feel impacted by the horrors of World War I. There‘s fighting, injury, the most horrific death and PTSD yet the story is compelling and told with compassion. A brilliant, brilliant book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From the very first page I knew I was going to love this book. It‘s disturbing, darkly erotic and unabashedly gothic. The concept of this book is unusual yet inspired and Grenouille, the main character, is frighteningly creepy, moving from social outcast to man most hated, then man adored. An incredibly good read and one I‘ll certainly read again. Also, that cover is beautiful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a beautiful story. The author has tackled an uncomfortable subject with frankness & compassion. Leon is nine years old and after a fraught start to his life is struggling to deal with emotions he doesn‘t understand. The loss he feels sends Leon on a path of despair. The child perspective of this book works wonderfully while Maureen provides the anchor he so desperately needs. A really touching read with lots of lump-in-the-throat moments. 5⭐️

If you‘re after a quick read that‘s not too taxing, this is perfect. There‘s no doubting who the author is, with its style mirroring the Fifty Shades of Grey series, but I was expecting that and wasn‘t disappointed. Only just a so-so (and I‘m being generous) due to me enjoying the chapters telling the history of sisters Iris and Laura. What I didn‘t enjoy at all were the chapters about the blind assassin (the story within the story) which I found tedious and for the most part, unnecessary. I feel this book could‘ve been great without these chapters, instead they made it rather tiresome. On a positive note, the narrator was very good ⭐️⭐️

It feels contradictory and somewhat disrespectful to give this book a pick. It‘s a story of such plummeting lows, despair and desperation, of loneliness and confusion, but the writing is incredibly powerful and the tale it tells so insightful. It was only after finishing the book that I Googled Sylvia Plath and discovered The Bell Jar is almost autobiographical. A tragic tale both in fiction and fact. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ms_T @Lea To read that makes me incredibly sad. 3mo
Centique Its still used in many places. My brother in law recently had some shock therapy for his mental illness and it was reasonably successful and he didn‘t hate it. I think the treatment has changed a lot - and more thought is put into prescribing it (in this country at least) My grandmother had it also in the 1950s which would have been awful 😬 3mo
Ms_T @Centique I‘m sure it‘s much more humane and a lot more considered nowadays. As you say, in the 1950s (the time in which the book is set) must have been dreadful. I‘m glad your BIL felt it was successful. 3mo

As with all Hislop‘s books, this is another Greek fiction story based on fact. Set around a leper colony in the 1940s as well as the present day, this historical story is in equal parts sad and uplifting. A really good summer read and the perfect companion if you‘re heading to Crete. It‘s made me want to check out Spinalonga when I travel to Crete in September ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

TrishB Just finished her new one, it was a great read. 3mo
Ms_T @TrishB Ooh, which one? 3mo

Ms_T @Birdsong28 Thanks for the heads up! I‘ll have a look 👍🏻📚😘 3mo
Peterfox123 I‘ve bought this for our trip to Crete - WHICH IS VERY SOON. We won‘t be close enough to Spinalonga to visit so I‘ll just have some extra food instead. 3mo
Ms_T @Peterfox123 Enjoy the book and save some of the glorious sunshine for me. 3mo

I‘m really excited for this, the sixth book featuring the indestructible badass computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. Released 22nd August.

#Preordered.

Pruzy 🙋‍♂️ Guilty pleasure read 3mo
Ms_T @Pruzy 🙌🏻😃 3mo
Peterfox123 I‘m really hoping this one gets back to top form. I wasn‘t thrilled by the last one but I can‘t abandon the series. 3mo
Ms_T @Peterfox123 Ditto, I can‘t not read a book starring Lisbeth. 3mo

This is a lovely read. Sarah Lachapelle is being brought up by her grandfather, Henri. While Henri leans on Sarah for domestic help, Sarah gains from him the knowledge and skills of dressage. When disaster strikes and Sarah is left on her own, nothing will deter her from fulfilling a quest.

Moyes‘ writing is great with well rounded characters and a sympathetic, light touch. A really good read that‘s up there with Me Before You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘ve been struggling to decide on my next audiobook - right now I don‘t fancy any that are currently in my library - then I remembered this book, set on the Greek island of Crete. As I‘m holidaying there in September it seems perfect 😎✈️

TrishB I remember really enjoying this one 👍🏻 3mo
Ms_T @TrishB That‘s great to hear! 3mo

For a relatively short audiobook (4 hours 30 minutes) this story packs a big punch. Telling the tale of the relationship between two sisters, one of whom is a serial killer, this book is a quick and engaging listen with excellent narration from Weruche Opia ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

inmegslibrary Oh this book 😍 3mo
MarriedtoMrT I thought he narration was fantastic! 3mo
