Did I need new books? No, I did not. Did I buy them anyway? Yes, yes I did. For the first time in years I skipped the local YA conference because I was disappointed in the diversity of their keynote speakers so I consoled myself with a trip to Barnes and Noble. Cost less than the conference would have at least! #bookhaul

I'm covering my library's mystery book club for a colleague on vacation this week which means I get to reread the first one in this delightful series. Decided to try it on audio this time around since it's on hoopla. Enjoying it so much, I may reread the whole series this way before tackling the fourth one since I'm waiting for my hold to come in anyway. #audiobooks

Spent today touring the Biltmore Estate. Amazing place and check out this library! If I had a room this big, I'd actually be able to fit all my books in one place instead of having them stashed in bookcases spread out all over the house.

NatalieR I ❤️ the Biltmore! My favorite library, too! I always imagine myself sneaking from a bedroom at night into the library through the secret passageway. 🤫 2mo

We were supposed to be in FL by now, but the condo we rented is on the coast in Brevard County which has announced some mandatory evacuations. Backup plan was Hilton Head, but since they may also get hit by Dorian we are heading to Boone, NC in the mountains tomorrow. On the bright side, we had time to hit the Barnes & Noble #bookhaul event this morning. Left so many pretties behind, but excited about these. Hope all on the East coast stay safe!

Adored listening to this one. I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to horror so middle grade scary is just about the right amount for me. Thrilled to discover it's going to be a quartet although with the second one just coming out this fall, will clearly be awhile 'til it will be finished. #audiobooks

Listened to this one on hoopla and it was great! Second in the series so the only drawback was it had been so long since I read the first, I had to go find a plot summary. The world building is really complicated and interesting and all three sisters are sympathetic in their own way. I'm definitely starting to root for all our main characters to unite and completely overthrow the island's current ruling system! #audiobooks

Nute Is this series complete now, because I‘m holding out? I‘m in the same boat as you, if I read trilogy books at the time of individual publication, I‘ll remember very little by the time that the next book comes out. So I wait now until all the books are available. 2mo
Bkwrm7 @Nute Final one comes out this Fall! I figure by the time I get through the short stories and the third book, the last one will have arrived. 2mo

Took me forever to read this one, but I did enjoy it. Charming banter and cool jobs for both protagonists plus a geeky fandom adds up to lots of fun. I also really appreciated that our main couple had mediocre sex at one point while they were struggling to connect emotionally. Nice to read a romance where the sex isn't spectacular every single time.

Been trying to do better about keeping my book journal up to date. Mine Till Midnight did not have my kind of hero and heroine. Not enough consent and once Rohan started taking control Amelia seemed to lose her agency entirely. It was fine, but Kleypas' Ravenels series is awfully similar and better.

After 10 years working in libraries, it's finally time to admit something: summer reading at work is terrible for my personal reading life. Only one more week left at my library though and since I worked this evening, I puttered around the house this morning catching up on Hey YA. I love this podcast from Bookriot hosted by Kelly Jensen and Eric Smith and have been very much missing it, so really enjoyed the chance to binge three or so episodes.

Vacation is almost over. :( On our way home from Bermuda, but we have a long layover on NY before heading back to Chicagoland. Since we are here for so long, hubby suggested we try the TWA hotel - mostly to check out their rooftop pool with a view of the runways! While he watched planes, I braved the pool with my Nook and some Tessa Dare. Drying off now before grabbing lunch. Not a bad way to wind these lovely two weeks up!

Excellent narration. I was emotionally invested in Freya and her sister and Harun and his family. I think it's a sign that I'm old that my biggest response to this was anger at some of the parents, especially Nathaniel's mom who abandons her child to his mentally ill father's care with very little oversight. None of the adults in Nathaniel's life see anything wrong either which is infuriating because it is so realistic. #hubchallenge19

A mess. Jealousy as a turn-on just doesn't work for me and that was so much of the book. Kind of nice to see a character with a chronic heart condition as the lead although I don't know enough to know if the rep was accurate. Also - I think Jamie was supposed to be redeemed by the end, but I still think he's pretty terrible as a human and as a brother. #audiobooks

Loved this. Bri and her family seemed so real to me with all their strengths and flaws. Bri is charming, witty, funny and makes several terrible decisions all while trying to help her family and achieve her dreams. She also faces racist school security guards and a society determined to label her a thug whether the label fits or not. Turpin as usual did an excellent job with the narration.

Johnson is really leaning into the cliff hangers with this series, but she did a good job of including enough of the details from the first book (which I read a year ago when it came out) that I wasn't lost so hopefully that will be true of the third book as well. Fun, angsty mystery with much more to uncover.

I originally thought this series was a trilogy and this was the last book, but it turns out there is a fourth! Even so this wraps up the threads from the first three very nicely. I read this so fast I definitely missed some of the clues - I really should have paid more attention to everyone's last names for example. Overall a very enjoyable YA mystery series - a good read alike for Jennifer Lynn Barnes' Naturals series, I think.

Interesting characters, good verbal sparring, some stuff in the sex scenes I really appreciated - safe sex addressed and our heroine didn't get drunk to work up her nerve among other things.
