🦋 I loved this fictional story of a young woman‘s journey to bring her abuela‘s ashes to Mexico for Day of the Dead as it coincides w/ the monarch‘s migration there for winter.
🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
🌳 This author incorporates environmental issues in her novels, so I will definitely be reading more by her.
🖊 I love buying used, & felt honored to add my initials to the group that read this copy. I‘ll be the last for awhile bc it‘s a keeper!

I had a great reading month in October!

I read 2 books and completed 3 challenges for #Screamathon with @4thhouseontheleft .

I read 6 hours and 24 minutes, and met 2 reading goals for the #20in4 Readathon with @Andrew65 .

(I did finish Dune, but Bookly won‘t count it until I finish the afterward by his son.)

Hard to pick a favorite because I liked them all. Probably Dune or The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

I just finished this book which was
✔️ one of my #20in4 goals
✔️ a horror book by a female PoC for #Screamathon

When Noemi‘s father gets a letter from her newly-wed cousin stating that something strange is going on in her bridegroom‘s mansion, Noemi is dispatched to solve the problem. She quickly unearths a mystery and a horror. I spent the story worrying if they could both make it out alive.

I officially completed the Week 1 #Screamathon Scare Pair challenge! I read Dune earlier this month and watched the new movie Saturday night.

🪱 I loved the book because it was action packed, combined with being an extraordinary coming of age story, I was worried about the length, but it flew by.

🎬 I also loved the movie. It stayed pretty close to the book.

🧙🏻 Yes, it‘s an October story. There are witches and monsters!

✔️ I met my #OutstandingOctober goal and finished this book before book club this morning, with about 20 minutes to spare!
💚 I loved this fictional story about a Marilyn Monroe-esque starlet who tells her life story to a writer. It‘s fast-paced and entertaining. Most of book club agreed, but one friend was stressed out from the darker content.

I forgot to post my review of this book last month!
🧠 Although reading about the family highlighted in this book was heavy at times, I was fascinated. I also found the history of studying schizophrenia in the United Stares interesting. Spoiler alert: people who don‘t believe science cause delays in helping people with this devastating mental health condition.
Most of my book club didn‘t like it as much as me, saying it was boring.

🌷 Thanks for the #WondrousWednesday tag @TheSpineView !
1. Tagged - read with my anti-racist teacher group
2. 👍
3. I like horror, thrillers, memoirs, historical fiction, true crime, coming-of-age, magical realism, and animal stories most. However I do read and enjoy a variety of genres especially because of my book club.

💐 I tag anyone who wants to play!

🌻 Thank you for asking @Eggs !

Gimme a Kiss | Christopher Pike
post image

💋 I feel like I‘m killing the National Kiss Day aesthetic on the #JulyJourneys thread with this book, but it‘s my only one with Kiss in the title! Lol. I guess I need to read more romance.
🔪 Who else was a Christopher Pike addict as a teen?
You @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks ?
You @Eggs ?

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks No, not me! And I don‘t read much romance either 🤷‍♀️ 5mo
PaperbackPirate @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Every once in awhile I‘ll read one, but I usually prefer a little more mystery as to how a book is going to end. 😆 5mo

🐴 Today‘s #CuriousCovers prompt is Pets.
🐴 Although the horses in this book are not pets, I think horses are wonderful pets.
🐎 This book centers around a family that breeds race horses, but that‘s really just the backdrop to a masterful illustration of how generational wealth works. Without hitting you over the head, the author makes a good case for reparations for slavery.
It‘s long and very dark so get in a good headspace first.

BkClubCare This book is great 👍 5mo

Late for Day 23 of #CuriousCovers #Building prompt!
💪🏼 This week I finished Mary Colter because we spent 2 nights at La Posada in Winslow, AZ, which she designed. What a remarkable woman, & this book has just the right amount of history & historical photographs about her.
💪🏼 Among many other Fred Harvey stops, she also designed Desert Watchtower at Grand Canyon (which is where I bought this in 2020 pre-Covid shutdowns).
