THE MONSTERS WE DEFY | LESLYE PENELOPE
post image
Pickpick

Loved this book,I can‘t say enough about the creativity of the author to take a real story of a young woman named Carrie Johnson and historical events that happened in 1920‘s during the Harlem renaissance that also depicts the disturbing pieces of history of that era that sadly still have comparisons today. L. P. turned it into a fantasy heist story with a really interesting cast of characters that I got totally invested in!

A YA fantasy set in Victorian era, I enjoyed that this was a little Bridgerton with demons and magic, I never read the previous series but I enjoyed the cast of friends and their different qualities and drama, I will probably read the next one in this series
My wrap up of #20in4 read a little over 14 hours finished this book and only 2 hours away from finishing Monster We Defy, didn‘t make 20 hours but enjoyed all the reading that I did do!

Andrew65 That‘s brilliant, thanks for playing along 👏👏👏🙌🥳🍾🥂🥰📚 6d

Set in Chicago in early 80s this story was about a community of friends who sadly were effected by the aids crisis, and how a sister of one of the group‘s friends Fiona immersed her self in helping each of them but how the trauma of that effected her life
It‘s a important part of the past and brought back memories of a coworker who died from this terrible virus
My final book of #joyousjanuary was happy I met all my goals

This was a audio book from chirp, not really a fan of audio but I thought this one sounded good I disliked it This was a story of American au pairs in Paris, starts with a death so you think it will be interesting, but the story explains in painful descriptions of five woman involved, all of these women were broken on many levels, none had redeeming qualities,I didn‘t like one of them the story wraps up neatly but strangely

I enjoyed this book mostly hallmark movie vibes, set in Edinburgh Scotland Carmen the main character is not very ambitious or family oriented to the frustration of her mother and sister, her very put together sister gets her a job trying to help a failing bookstore and it‘s owner has his own family secrets and add a few love interests and a nice story though a little long,I really enjoyed the descriptions of the city

This book was between a pick and so-so Set in England Nicole comes to Lockwood Hall for a writing retreat, she meets an interesting cast of other writers.
She hears a story about Alys a rumored ghost that was hung as a witch in the 1600 hundreds she hopes this story will break her writers block,I liked the historical duel timeline but lacked luster thought it would be creepier but was more a mystery.
