Yikes!!! Good book. Perfect Halloween read. Pretty sure this was the scariest of the SK books I‘ve read thus far. So unsettling, disquieting and bad to the bone. Dean was insulted by the cover. Lol

Texreader It was the last book of SK that I ever read (and I was a huge SK fan). It was too scary for me. 1d
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Texreader He admits it‘s his scariest book and he almost didn‘t publish it. It‘s in the introduction of my 2018 copy (Litsy didn‘t have exact copy I read-same cover but not same book). He‘s written such great stuff, could never give up on him. Try 11/22/63, that‘s not scary. Great read. 13h

Combustible kids who‘ve been neglected and abandoned by their rich politician dad. Quirky MC. This is what I love about BOTM, I probably would‘ve never picked up this book had it not been a choice. Magical realism, quick engaging read.

This book was...different. Very well written, enjoyable, but a bit strange. 3.5⭐️ set in 2001 and the 16th century. Cameo appearance by Shakespeare. Protagonist time travels via her dreams and each time she comes back, her real time existence is altered, leading others to believe she is mentally ill.

Goofy, but cute. 3⭐️. Some chuckles, a vampire from the Bronx, (he was fun) and the first time I‘ve ever read of a werebear. A nice little tour of Venice, and a little mystery, with “malcontent” vamps abducting mortals and brainwashing them.

Pleasantly surprised with the way this fleshed out. I‘m 4 decades out of the demographic for this one, so the teen romance drama was a bit annoying, yet this is what I loved about the book: the road trip which brought me through NoCal, Oregon, and Washington, the side characters, the up-trading on Craig‘s List and of course, the ‘68 Firebird Convertible with stick shift. This started out a 2.5 for me and ended at 3.75🚙

Sorry about my foot, it‘s been a bad hip spell. Dean Martin on my lap modeling with current read. It‘s slow, but so am I. I‘m digging the ‘68 convertible Firebird, but all the ex boyfriend angst is getting tiresome. I‘m sticking with this one bc it‘s a road trip in Northern Cal. Always up my alley🏔

ValerieAndBooks I might just have to pick this one up! Being a NorCal native and a veteran of many coastal road trips there! 2mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @ValerieAndBooks it‘s a little heavy on teen angst, but I am enjoying the Russellville, Fort Bragg, Garberville, etc road trip to Crescent City. A little circuitous due to unforeseen obstacles. These areas are unfamiliar to me, but I have done the Reno-San Fran road trip, which was fun, but different from this. 2mo

Bailedbailed

Almost 1/2 way in, and I know this is an unpopular opinion, but to me, this book is thoroughly overhyped and meh.
Maybe it‘s an age related bail, probably better for 20 somethings.

petersonks15 If I hadn‘t been reading it for a book Club I would have bailed. It was a cute romance overall, but a struggle to get through, felt way too long imo. 3mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @petersonks15 I just could not connect. The only one I semi liked was Henry. I found the book pretty boring. Unless the best part was the 2nd half? 3mo
petersonks15 It did get better, but still dragged in my opinion. Maybe it was just too hyped and my expectations weren‘t in the right place. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (edited) 3mo

CarolynM Always enjoy an unpopular opinion🙂 (I did like the book, though) 3mo
TheHeartlandBookFairy I thought the first 30% was good and I loved the last 30%! But the middle 40% could have been told in a fraction of the pages used. It was just more of the same and I nearly bailed. In the end I'm glad I didn't bail, that last 30% made up for it but that middle was a struggle bus for me as well 😝 3mo

JanuarieTimewalker13 @Cinfhen ok, great!! I liked this book, it‘s weird bc I went to Floral Park Memorial HS...and Kate and Peter live in Floral Park...knew the Carvel Anne spoke of. First time I‘ve ever seen my zip code in a book. I was from the next town over, but we shared the Floral Park zip. 4mo
Cinfhen That‘s so weird!! Is Floral Park considered Long Island or Queens??? 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Cinfhen It‘s both. I think the Queens side is called Floral Park Manor. I was on Nassau side, in Bellerose. Back in the day, I would walk up the block, cross over Jericho Turnpike/Jamaica Avenue to call my boyfriend in Howard Beach so it wouldn‘t be A long distance call...hahahaha...that‘s back in the 80s. My mother didn‘t want high long distance bills. Queens is on Long Island, so is Brooklyn, but they are boroughs of NYC. 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 When people say Long Island, they mean Nassau and Suffolk counties. Where I lived was so close to Queens, as I got older, I just said I was from Queens and my cool factor went up...hahahaha....at least in my mind. 4mo
Cinfhen My husband grew up in Far Rockaway, which is technically Queens but he went to school 10 minutes down the road and it was considered Nassau. And all his school friends lived in Woodmere, Cederhurst & Lawrence ( where his parents eventually moved) but after he graduated HS. 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Cinfhen Did he go to a private school? Otherwise, he must have used someone else‘s address. Nassau school tax is high. I know for a fact there were some kids from Queens in my HS. The parents would‘ve had a fit if they knew, bc our parents paid through the nose, tax wise. But maybe there were special circumstances in Far Rockaway. I have no clue. But I had a couple of friends from Cedarhurst and Lawrence. Not all that far from Floral Park. 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 There was great confusion in the early days when my side of Bellerose (Nassau) had a Queens ZIP....they changed that in early 80s. It‘s a very blurry line there...but funny that one side is Jericho Turnpike (Nassau) and the same street on Queens Side is Jamaica Avenue. The Nassau people always call it Jericho and the Queens people call it Jamaica. (edited) 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 I got my Queens schooling at St John‘s U...lol...hence the boyfriend from HB. It was fun, very diverse, yet separate in those days. Now things are diverse and together...which is SO much better! 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 But of course, the fact that it‘s not just a commuter college anymore, brings people together. Back in the 80s, it was strictly commuter. 4mo
Cinfhen Yes, he went to a private school ( Jewish Day School & HS) He went to Baruch for collage and Hofstra for law school. He‘s a total New Yorker!! We met & started dating on a gap year program in Israel between graduating HS & starting college. I was at NYU, while he went to Baruch. Such a small world ( also the 80‘s) we graduated HS 1984 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Cinfhen It IS a small world!!! Ooooh, NYU!! Awesome!! Baruch is a GREAT business school!! Hofstra Law, wow!! Ok, I graduated SJU in ‘84. Ok, this is embarrassing, but I knew that was the school for me bc I was Queens boy-crazy.....hahahaha...they were “cooler” than the LI boys (in my head). My mother wanted me to go to Adelphi, but I was like, “no way, lady”. I‘ve had enough of Long Island. LOL...Kids! (edited) 4mo
Cinfhen That‘s really funny!!! Queens boys were totally cooler than LI boys!!! More “dangerous” 😂😂😉Half of NYU were either city boys or LI boys!! And the other half were gay😜 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Cinfhen No doubt, but you still had it better than my friend who went to FIT😀she actually believed her boyfriend from there was straight, and everyone was like “no girl, you have to open your eyes” lol denial. It was a different time. If you were hunting Queens and Brooklyn boys back in the day, SJU was the place. It was just guaranteed there would be a baseball bat on the floor of the back seat. Which intimidated me a bit. Lol 4mo

Hahahaha...such a blast from the past I had to take a photo. I find it interesting that 3 out of 3 of the people who took out this book were men, a book about a female detective.
38 years ago. Wow!

I enjoyed this approximately 10 year snapshot of Mary Glatzle‘s NYPD career from Academy days (1969) to her promotion to first grade detective in 1979. It covers some pivotal cases she was on in her SCU days. That was a super rough time period in NY-a Lot of discussion about juvenile street crime. Also a lot of rape, so this could be triggering. She came on the job at a time when women had different shields and were called Policewomen.

Cinfhen Well done!!! You‘re nearly all “caught up” 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Cinfhen hahaha thanks!! Truth is, I‘m all over the place, as usual, in life! I can‘t even make a bed without getting sidetracked! 4mo

Slajaunie Vegan beach lover here! 🤗 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog yahoooooo!!🌞😎🏖 (edited) 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog question, I‘m the food police, apparently, but how can you be vegan if you had fried shrimp for lunch? 4mo
Slajaunie Not real shrimp, vegan shrimp. Don‘t ask me how they make it but it is delicious! @JanuarieTimewalker13 (edited) 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @bookfrog. Ohhhh Hahahaha!! 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @bookfrog where oh where can I find that? And I‘ve had vegan crab cakes...which were amazing!! They were made out of hearts of palm!! I swore I was going to make them, even bought old bay seasoning, and, alas, never did I make a one! Best intentions, but laziness won out. 4mo
Slajaunie A little place in Denham Springs near my daughter. 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog Have you ever had Vegan Treats‘ cannolis? They are not to be missed if you are on east coast!! They‘re actually in Bethlehem, Pa, I so want to road trip there! 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog Oooh, you‘re in La. cool. I‘ve only been to NOLA. (edited) 4mo
Slajaunie Also, Vegan Foodhouse in Dallas and Breads on Oak in New Orleans are fabulous if you ever go to those two cities. @JanuarieTimewalker13 4mo
Slajaunie No! If I make it up that way I will have to try them! @JanuarieTimewalker13 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog great!! Thanks!! If you‘re ever up North, jersey or NY, we have a plethora of great vegan spots...I recently tried By Chloe in Rock Center and it was great!!! There‘s so many great places in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Down here, at Jersey Shore, we have Seed to Sprout, Kaya‘s Kitchen, Good Karma Cafe...all good 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @catiewithac I should‘ve included you in above conversations! We‘re talking yummy vegan places! So look above👆🏽😊 (edited) 4mo
Slajaunie They are hard to find around here! @JanuarieTimewalker13 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog you must do a lot of cooking, which is going to happen to me soon, when I move to Long Island...they don‘t have many options, but slowly getting better 4mo
Slajaunie We do when we have time. My husband makes guacamole, salsa, and spaghetti sauce by the truck load for times we don‘t cook. @JanuarieTimewalker13 (edited) 4mo
Slajaunie Also red beans and rice! @JanuarieTimewalker13 4mo
Slajaunie Our local market, Rouses has some vegan grocery options. Live some veganaise!!! @JanuarieTimewalker13 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog I do too. Today I actually mixed veganese with ketchup and sriracha to make a nice sauce for my chik‘n sliders. I‘ve become too lazy. I really have to get back to cooking! I used to make tomato sauce all the time, but then I found Jar Goods Classic Red at WF and I don‘t even make my own tomato sauce anymore!! Cooking for one is sometimes problematic and not really motivating. 4mo
Slajaunie I‘m lucky because my husband is the cook. I like to make a salad and use Veganaise as the dressing. I put some smothered potatoes in it as well. @JanuarieTimewalker13 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @BookFrog you are lucky!!! That‘s great!! And yum on the salad! 4mo

Turns out, American copy wins. This is why, and this is why I‘ve lost my bookish mind....last night I noticed in the British copy, 2 things were missing: Map end pages of Ievoli, AND the family tree (which I have posted below). I want you to know I didn‘t sleep well last night (hence losing my bookish mind over details). I went to Barnes and Noble today to secure an American copy. I left BN on a bookish high and drove through puddles of sewage👇🏽

JanuarieTimewalker13 There was some kind of major poop dilemma at Houlihan‘s and my car still smells like a sh&tmobile. This too shall pass. The things we do for book love. Lol 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 If I hadn‘t had a library copy initially, I would‘ve never known the difference in the 2 editions. #Librariesrock 4mo
marleed I‘m fascinated by the UKvsUS edition of books. I want the UK Daisy Jones! I just saw Cecilia Ahern post the cover for PostScript and I bet that the UK cover! 4mo

JanuarieTimewalker13 @marleed I like the different covers, but I want the guts to be the same. Lol I have the BOTM of DJATS...love both the American and British ones...loved that book! Will never let go of it, but I want to listen to audiobook next year, bc it‘s supposed to be a great format. 4mo
marleed @JanuarieTimewalker13 DJATS I listened and read simultaneously! And then I immediately relistened (first time ever!) to see if I could pick up on any nuances- having known the end. 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @marleed that‘s so funny bc I wanted to immediately re-read it too, but I got sidetracked with other books 4mo
cookreadsleep I loved the family tree - the book wouldn‘t have been the same without it! 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @cookreadsleep I agree! It was especially helpful in the beginning. Oh my goodness this book is incredible. 4mo

For those of you with the British copy of tagged book. Your copy does not have the family tree, so I‘ve taken a photo for you.

RatherTooFondofBooks Thank you so much, I really appreciate you posting this picture. 😊 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @RatherTooFondofBooks you‘re so very welcome. I don‘t want those owning the British copy to miss out📚❤️ 4mo

Aims42 I always hunt for the UK versions of my favorite books because they‘re always prettier!! Love this version 😍 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Aims42 I do too!! Once in a blue moon, the American cover is prettier. I can‘t think of one off the top of my noggin, but it has happened! Maybe Circe? 4mo
Aims42 @JanuarieTimewalker13 LOL, yes once in a blue moon it does.... not that I can of any right now though 😆 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Aims42 Well, I just discovered my British edition doesn‘t have a family tree in the beginning of the book, like my American library copy had. That‘s a shame-in this case, I would go with American copy for that piece of information....I‘m a bit shocked it‘s missing!! 4mo
Aims42 @JanuarieTimewalker13 totally shocking! Why wouldn‘t that be in all copies?? 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Aims42 I have no idea, but you kind of need it!! I just asked someone that gave a review and had the British one pictured if her copy had it. It may take awhile for a response. This is disheartening! 4mo
JanuarieTimewalker13 This edition is also missing map. 4mo
