Didn't particularly rate this - I found it to be quite dull and patronising. The idea of putting humans into 1 of 4 categories doesn't make much sense to me...and the author acknowledged that in saying that most people are a combination. But then I question what the book is really saying beyond 'people are different and we should be aware of that'? Not a bad read if you want some advice on how to respond when encountered with certain traits

This is a great read if you're keen to explore the idea of inner safety for the first time! I've been working on this a lot over the past year through therapy so a lot of it wasn't very new to me, but because of that experience, I can vouch for a lot of this stuff really working🌟

A good'un! Cassandra is such a little gem bless her and her narration made me laugh on more than one occasion😂 Sometimes the plot felt a bit disjointed and oddly paced, and it went on a bit too long for me, but on the whole an enjoyable read! I've loved living in the castle with them all this past week or so

I was so wanting to love this one because the concept that the blurb described was great! It just didn't really go anywhere though and I felt like I was just reading about random fish for the sake of reading about random fish. The message wasn't conveyed remotely subtly or smartly, and while at first I quite liked the prose, it stopped doing anything for me p quickly. I did enjoy learning the occasional dolphin fact

squirrelbrain I hated this one too, and it‘s not often I say that about a book. 😬 2mo

The relationship between the 2 mains in this is fascinating and I'm very much intrigued enough to want to read the rest of the series. Quite repetitive to me in parts but on the whole p good!

Good! I love a bit of folklore and this did a great job of blurring the lines between that and reality. Also my partner is Greek which made this even more enjoyable for me! Wasn't expecting it to have the storyline it did but I really enjoyed where it went - a gentle exploration of a man struggling with his sexuality in 1920s Cyprus & the impact that has on the people around him, including his pregnant wife

A Good Year | Polis Loizou

'Get this into your head: light will come and go. When the darkness comes, you make a fire, put on clothes...you protect yourself. You know you'll be cold, you know you won't see well. But then it goes away. The only thing you have to do is remember that it comes back. You get ready for it and face it again. But you know it always goes away again, too. Because the light always comes back, as well.'

I like what this book was trying to do, I just...don't think it did it😭 The prose is largely pretty wooden - it doesn't really *show* things/let you deduce them, it just prints in black and white exactly what you're meant to take from the book. So much was left unresolved/not explored in the depth it needed to be & it's disappointing because as I say, I do like the concept!

A really good read!! Strengthened my understanding of gender expression/identity tenfold. Also absolutely love that it's inspired by an Old French poem from the 13th century - my degree focused a lot on Lit like this and it really sparked parts of my brain that haven't lit up in a while

1/3 books finished as part of my #MarvellousMarch readathon goal! @Andrew65

Oooo it's another goodie! I think I liked The Idiot more but this is a very close 2nd. I don't want to spoil anything but I looooved the endings of the 2 books together. Also *need* a 3rd and 4th, come on Elif, get cracking

jlhammar Yes, such a good one! I think I liked The Idiot a bit more as well, but both fantastic. Will definitely read the next Selin installment if/when we are lucky enough to get one. 3mo
