6 posts | 2 to read
The year is 1902. The love affair between a young aristocrat and the seventeen-year old daughter of his tutor ends in sorrow disgrace and grief humiliation. He is sent away to Europe to forget while his lover, pregnant and ruined, is left behind. She bears a child, Harry, who is fostered by the Pritchetts, a humble and caring family. Harry grows up in idyllic surroundings with Alice, his foster-sister, sometimes going up to the big house to play with the beautiful but spoilt Madeline. Though secure at the Pritchetts', nothing can prepare Harry for the revelation of his father's true identity. Years later the truth finally does emerge, and he is claimed by his father's relatives. But Harry finds he cannot forget the care of those who had brought him up - especially Alice with her deep and enduring love.

At last a Bingo. Could have tried reading the one with 3 free spaces but just couldn't read those one. But I am quite happy with getting a bingo. My #bookspin the Librarian of Auschwitz was a masterpiece for me, I loved it throughly. I have started my #doublspin Kargil (9) but will not be able to complete it in time so won't add here. And as always a big thanks to @TheAromaofBooks for hosting this marvellous event.

ishan0986 I am happy I got A bingo this month as i won't be able to participate next month due to my exams. This will be a delight for the next month though 😄. 3y
TheAromaofBooks Yay bingo!!!! And I will keep you on the tag list for December!!! Good luck with exams!! 3y

IT'S FINALLY TIME!!! 😁 Good morning, everyone! The moment you have all been waiting for!! Our official #BookSpin number is SIXTEEN!! Our official #DoubleSpin number is TWENTY!! I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at everyone's lists & am really looking forward to seeing your reviews!

My next post will be the #BookSpinBingo card!!!

Just a few quick housekeeping items that I would really appreciate if you would take a moment to read -

TheAromaofBooks 1. Remember, this is a no-pressure challenge!! You can read one or both of these books. You can bail on them. You can read them in October & then tag me & tell me they were from August. Whatever works!! This is supposed to be fun not stressful!! ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks 2. I am hoping to have a giveaway at the end of the year. Entries are reviews of #BookSpin books, but I will only know about them if you tag me, so please tag me whenever you read & review your book for the month. DNFs count! The goal for #BookSpin is to get a book off your TBR, so if you decide not to finish it, it's still off the list, so tag me & tell me why you bailed. ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks 3. I am tagging everyone who posted a list, so if you posted a list & you do not get tagged here, please let me know! It means I either accidentally missed your original #BookSpin post OR I wrote down your username wrong. Either way, I'm really sorry. Everyone is welcome to join this challenge, so if I missed you it was entirely by mistake - just let me know!! ⬇ 4y

TheAromaofBooks 4 & final - While I don't have time to reply to all of the comments to this post, I do read every one and love seeing which books got picked for you!! Thank you all so much for your enthusiasm, and happy reading!!!

Bingo will be the next post after I finish tagging everyone here!!!

magyklyXdelish my books are Devil in the white city and an arc from Netgalley everything I thought I knew...both of which I‘ve been putting off and would have continued to put off so I‘m excited to knock them off the list! 4y
Soubhiville My book spin is Last Night in Montreal by Emily St John Mandel and my double spin is Chocolat by Joann Harris. Yay! Thanks for all you do 🤗 4y
wideeyedreader My bookspin is from here to eternity—which I started reading yesterday! Doublespin is once upon a river 4y
Lovesbooks87 My #bookspin is How to be Remy Cameron and my #doublebookspin is American Street. 4y
rockpools As always, I‘m in awe of your organisational skills. Will you look at that list??! Both of mine are real life print books this month & gifts from lovely Littens - I‘ve got My Sister the Serial Killer as my #DoubleSpin and for #BookSpin: 4y
Kelly326 My #bookspin is The Summer Wives and #doublebookspin is The Guest List. Can‘t wait to get started as soon as I finish East of Eden!! 4y
Lesanne My #Bookspin is The Color of Law, #DoubleSpin is Opium and Absinthe! 4y
bekakins My #bookspin is Property by Lionel Shriver, #doublespin is We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson 4y
slategreyskies My #bookspin is These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman, and my #doublespin is Lillian Boxfish Takes A Walk by Kathleen Rooney. 4y
Allylu #BookSpin is Plainsong by Kent Haruf and #DoubleSpin is Illuminae by Aimee Kaufman. That‘s funny because my daughter encouraged me to read Illuminae but said I should wait until after my cataract surgery which is in September. Hmmm...if #DoubleSpin says August, I may have to try it. 😊 4y
Gissy #BoonSpin is....dandan...Summer at the Garden Café. #DoubleSpin is....(drums sound)....The Summer I turned, which is also part of last?N.E.W.T.s Magical Readathon (last N.E.W.T.s Thank You to Rawlings insensible comment, YouTuber Book Roast will not do this activity again). 4y
VeganCleopatra I know you didn't say here but I can't remember if you have before...are doublespins included in the giveaway entry or just the bookspins? Thanks again for all the effort. 4y
JamieArc My #BookSpin is Soar, a book I almost picked up to start yesterday (but decided to wait to see which number was pulled, lol), and #DoubleSpin is Normal People, which I‘ve been wanting to get to because I won‘t watch the show until I‘ve read the book. Thanks as always for doing this! 4y
Kalalalatja Yikes, my bookspin is Barnaby Rudge by Dickens 🙈 luckily my doublespin is a little less heavy 😅 4y
AmyG Yay! I forgot it was the 2nd. I love seeing what I read. My book is Dictation - Cynthia Ozick. 4y
Julies_Bookshelf_Adventures #bookspin is The Deep by Alma Katsu and #doublespin is Marauder by DW Roach 4y
TheAromaofBooks @VeganCleopatra - Yes, both BookSpin & DoubleSpin count as entries. However, any of the extra reads for Bingo (or Bonanza earlier this year) do not count - so, maximum of two entries per month, so that way people who read more don't get the giveaway stacked in their favor!! 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Bookspin is Ralph's Party, which has been on my TBR for over 15 years. Doublespin is one of my buddy reads, The Downstairs Girl. Yay!! 4y
Rissreads #doublespin I‘m excited to read both of these (edited) 4y
VeganCleopatra Thanks for the clarification! I knew the others didn't count but I started doubting myself that the doubles did! I'm really hoping both of us tackle our boards more effectively this month. 🤞 4y
Sargar114 #bookspin is The Diviner‘s (audiobook). I‘ve never done an audiobook before so this will be fun. I‘ve read this book but I‘ve heard such great things about the audio version! My #doublespin is The Rise of Magicks which will finish a trilogy for me, so that‘s super exciting. Thank you again for putting this together!!! 4y
LiteraryinLawrence You are an organizational wizard! This is a lot of work- thanks for all you do! I‘m really excited to participate this month! 4y
Selena85 Bookspin is The Dorito Effect. I'm more excited about my Doublebookspin which is Mrs. Fletcher. Planning on getting through both this month, but really want a Bingo! Excited to see what that will be 4y
claudiuo Both my spins are story collections, which is great, I love short stories. The BookSpin is The Emerald Circus by Jane Yolen and DoubleSpin is Dark and Bitter. I am behind, not having finished the July spins yet but hope to make it up this month. Thank you so much! 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira BookSpin tagged, which I‘ve started reading already 🤩 DoubleBookSpin : The Courage to Be Disliked. Thanks again, so much fun 🤗 4y

TheAromaofBooks @Suet624 - A new job is a fun reason to have less reading time!!! Any time you want to jump back in, you're very welcome to do so - it's a nice challenge that way!! 4y

Hey friends! So I'm kicking around some thoughts for May & am considering a #BookSpinBonanza! Would anyone be interested in a challenge where I draw all 20 numbers & then we see how far we can read through our lists in the order the numbers were drawn?? Only the first two numbers would be eligible to be entered in the end-of-the-year drawing, so it wouldn't be giving participants an unfair advantage for that over people who don't read as many ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) books or who don't feel like joining. But would anyone even be interested in trying this challenge?? Let me know what you think!! 4y
Jari-chan I will fail hugely, but I'd be in only for the fun of being in 😄 4y
See All 33 Comments
AmyG I would try. Ha....not sure how far I‘d get. 4y
jenniferw88 I'll fail too, but I'm in! 4y
LeeRHarry Sounds fun - need to give my list a bit of shake up! 😊 4y
Butterfinger I will probably just stick with the first number. It is a great idea - I just have numerous challenges and discussions to do more. 4y
AmyK1 There‘s no way I could read all 20 but I‘m in too 😁 4y
zezeki Sounds fun! I'm not sure how far I'd get but I'd be willing to try. 😄 4y
Soubhiville I‘d attempt it, but I‘ve been mood reading a lot lately so I‘m not sure how far I‘d actually get. 😊 4y
Crazeedi Sounds like a neat idea 4y
Lesanne I‘d give it a try, although like most of the others I know I wouldn‘t make it through the whole list! 😃 4y
BookmarkTavern You know what? Why the hell not?! Let‘s do it! (edited) 4y
candority I‘ll try it! I really need to read my own books, instead of continuing to borrow new ones from the library, and this challenge might encourage me to! 4y
HeyT I definitely wouldn't be able to do all 20 (I have quite a few chunksters on my list) But it would be fun to try. 4y
wideeyedreader I know I won‘t be able to read all of them, but why not right? 4y
hes7 Ooh, yes! Reading them in drawn order would definitely be a challenge. 4y
rockpools That‘d be a fab way of getting me to read book no. 20 (not sure about books 1-19 🤣) - sounds really fun! 4y
GinaKButler Yes, but I might need to take some of the doorstops off my list! 🤣 4y
ImperfectCJ I'm game...like others, I know I won't get through all 20 (unless I give my kids the month off from homeschool), but it would be fun to try! 4y
rabbitprincess A fun challenge! Let‘s do it! 4y
marleed Oh yes, I‘m having fun trying to get through as many of the 20 books as I can. I fell off this month so this would give me a new challenge. 4y
Addison_Reads Sounds like a fun challenge. 😁 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Let's do it! If I read 4 I'd be happy, and pleasantly surprised if I read more. I'll have to curate a good list to keep the momentum going and mix up some genres. To save yourself the time, I would suggest just sharing the order in one post. 4y
Hooked_on_books I haven‘t been joining in as I‘m notoriously a mood reader, but I‘m also trying to read down my owner books, so I‘d totally join this! 4y
BookwormAHN I'm game. At the very least I can get through some to see if I'm going to keep them or not. 4y
wordslinger42 Yes!!! 😊😊 Would it be possible to draw the numbers on May 1st so we have the extra day to start reading? If not, no biggie! 💜 4y
KatieB Sounds like fun! 4y
llwheeler I think I'd be in, sounds like a fun challenge 🙂 I'd make a different list to take some of my chunksters off and put in a few lighter reads 4y
KarouBlue Excellent! Do it, my friend! 4y
PaperbackPirate I‘m a fan of this idea! 4y

TheAromaofBooks Oh man you have some more fun titles up for grabs this month!! 4y
Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m really struggling to figure out the age of my authors. I can‘t tell if anyone is a millennial. HELP!!!!????? 4y
alisiakae On your list above, Sabaa Tahir makes the cut into the millennial generation. According to Google, she is 36yo. 4y
Cinfhen Trevor Noah is 36 as well ❤️ (edited) 4y

My author friend has a new release based on the Greek tale of Arachne and Aphrodite. A sweet romance with an HEA! She does her own cover art, too.

*note the tagged book has the same title but is a DIFFERENT book from the pictured book.
