Next ten books. From my at home TBR. All bought used.

I like Carl Jung‘s work and find him quite intriguing. Unfortunately, I had a hard time staying engaged with this book. There were aspects that were interesting, but it was mostly pretty complex for my taste. #MountTBR

Lullaby | Jonathan Maberry

I needed a short dose of horror and this Audible Original delivered. A couple buys an old, haunted house in the Catskills. Strange things occur in the nursery of their newborn. It‘s a pretty straightforward plot, but it truly gave me the chills. #MountTBR

Bull Mountain | Brian Panowich

Set in Appalachia, this book tells the story of a family‘s legacy of violence, drugs, guns, and intimidation. This story doesn‘t just build suspense for the end, he eloquently drops revelations and connections throughout the story. (My jaw dropped several times.) There‘s moments of cruelty and gritty humor…moments of levity are needed when absorbing oneself into the lives of these characters. Fans of David Joy will love this. #MountTBR

Everyone is welcome to join!

We‘ve made a longlist from last weekend‘s nominees. Link to the list: https://bit.ly/3w5SSIN

We hope you‘ll join, vote and share! Poll closes on Monday 16th May!

squirrelbrain Tagging a few friends who may not have done ToB before, so shout if you want to know more! 2w
julesG Shout! 2w
Megabooks So excited to see what our campers choose from the longlist! 🏕📚 2w

squirrelbrain @julesG - the Tournament of Books is an annual (American) knockout competition for books. Barbara runs a Litsy version alongside to see how our votes compare. It was my first year joining in this year - good fun! There is also a mini CampToB each summer, with just 6 books. We decided to nominate our own, which we did last weekend, as well as voting for them. When we‘ve picked the 6 we‘ll read 2 a month and vote our winner. 2w
rockpools **Kind of a whispery shout** When you were putting the lists together last week there were SO MANY I fancied reading. I think I‘m in, and I think I understand. As long as you don‘t require us to sign up to the grown-up tob because 🤯 2w
rockpools P.S. Nice spreadsheet 😘 2w
julesG Okay. Got it. Thought it was more complicated. 😬 2w
squirrelbrain I know @rockpools -there are so many good books! We had to take a few out even due to the dates not fitting; there were over 70! Could you tell my job was to do the spreadsheet?! 🤣 2w
julesG Spreadsheet queen! 2w
squirrelbrain No, just voting for books and then reading the 6 we choose over the course of 3 months @julesG (and chatting on here about them then voting for your overall fave) 2w
Leniverse Wow. So many books to research! I've eyed the ToB in previous years, but it was just way too many books in addition to what I had already planned on reading. This mini version looks doable though. 2w
KristiAhlers Y‘all have some great titles on this list! I‘m totally in for this! 2w
TrishB I‘ll do my best to have a look and vote. You know how rubbish I am at reading along with others! 2w
rockpools Next up in ‘things I didn‘t know I didn‘t know‘ - website Litsy shows who has stacked a book! The hours I‘ve spent going back through posts to see who I‘d meant to send stuff on to… (Thanks for adding the links to the spreadsheet, Helen!) 2w
squirrelbrain Ooh, good spot Rachel! @rockpools 2w
squirrelbrain It would be fab if you could vote @TrishB ! 2w
squirrelbrain @Leniverse @KristiAhlers - there are so many fab books. I ended up only voting for 1 of my own 6 nominations, there are so many others I hadn‘t even heard of! 2w
jlhammar Count me in! Just voted. Looking forward to it. 2w
squirrelbrain Yay! Thanks for voting @jlhammar - there were so many great books to choose from! 2w
vivastory Thanks for organizing! I'm really excited 📚📚🏕️ 2w
BarbaraBB @julesG @rockpools @Leniverse @KristiAhlers @TrishB @jlhammar So glad you all are thinking of joining. It‘s really low key and relaxed. Just a chance to read 6 probably great books during summer! 2w
Caroline2 Oh this sounds mega fun but I don‘t think I have any of those books and I‘m reallllly trying to stick to mount tbr this year. 😬 2w
squirrelbrain You could still vote @Caroline2 and you never know, one or two might be on Kindle deal! 😁 (I know you won‘t resist a 99p deal, never mind what you say about #mountTBR!) 🤣 2w
Megabooks Thanks for sharing Helen! Your spreadsheets are 💯💯💯💯!! 💜 and “probably great” @BarbaraBB 😂😂 but part of the fun is finding out for sure! 2w
Emilymdxn I would love to join this sounds so perfect! 2w
BarbaraBB @Emilymdxn Please do! Just read the two documents and choose the 6 books you‘d like us to read this summer ! We would love you to join! 2w
BarbaraBB @Megabooks You never know of course, we‘ve had some weird ones in the real #CampToB 😉 2w
squirrelbrain We‘d love you to join in @Emilymdxn ! 2w
Daisey This is so tempting! I see a few books that have definitely caught my interest, but I also usually have very limited reading time in the summer. I‘ll keep watching and see what‘s picked. 1w
squirrelbrain Why not vote anyway @Daisey ?! We‘d love to know your favourites! 1w
Caroline2 Oh yeah! 😃 I do love a good kindle deal. 😊 voted! ✅ 1w
squirrelbrain Thanks for joining in! @caroline2 😁 1w
Leniverse So... I've narrowed my choices down to 17. 🤣 Where do I go from here? 😅 Do I remove the ones I'm going to read anyway, or do I vote for them because it would make it more likely that I get the ToB books read? 😬 1w
squirrelbrain I got mine down to 13 before I chose my final 6. Then I picked one or two that I own but haven‘t read, and the rest were ones I *really* wanted to read. You definitely need to vote though @leniverse as it‘s so tight at the top, with around 10 books fighting it out at the moment! No clues as to which though! 😝 1w
Leniverse I paired it down, somewhat randomly, by removing the ones I have and the once that aren't published until June, and then made sure they weren't all bleak doorstoppers. And then I judged by the cover. 😂 I've voted now, but I'd happily read half the books on the longlist. 1w
squirrelbrain I saw that you voted Leni - thank you! 😁 CampToB is having a serious effect on all of our TBR lists! 1w
Oryx Voted. Couple that I was going to read anyway, but lots that I haven't heard of, but sounded good. When will the list be decided? Might impact my shopping on Saturday... 😉 1w
squirrelbrain Voting closes on Monday @oryx so we‘ll know the books by Saturday. Good idea for shopping…. We may be buying the same books! 😁 1w
jhod Voted! 1w
squirrelbrain Thanks @jhod - not long until we know the outcome now! 1w
Leniverse I'm ridiculously excited to find out which books to add to my shopping list for Saturday. 😄 1w
squirrelbrain Not long now @Leniverse - we‘ll announce tomorrow or Wednesday….. 😁 1w

This was pretty decent! The goal is to build relationships through improving our communication skills. Some important take aways were active listening skills; moving away from distractions and not multitasking. I love the acronym WAIT; Why Am I Talking? There are some specific areas of my work life where talking less will be beneficial. I enjoyed how she framed the use of silence and how we seldom experience true silence in our day. #MountTBR

I seldom read YA, but I‘m a fan of John Grisham and will read any book he writes. The Theodore Boone series is a cute, wholesome collection of stories with good themes and lessons for readers. In this installment, Grisham tackles standardized testing in schools and a group of teachers who cheat the results. #MountTBR

Be Here Now | Ram Dass

Not the tagged book - I‘m reviewing Here We All Are by Ram Dass. This is a short audiobook; it‘s a live recording of one of his talks in front of a live audience. He shares about his experience at Harvard as a psychologist and how getting fired led him to India where he met his Guru and got on the spiritual path. He then shares some amazing lessons about spirituality. This is a great book for anyone new to Ram Dass. #MountTBR ☮️🕉

Wonderful! Perfect for #audiogardening It felt expansive, beautiful, and dangerous. Just like the Alaskan wilderness where it is set. The writing is gorgeous, just like every Hannah book I‘ve read. I listened on #audio though I‘ve owned the book since it was released. Glad I finally got to it! #MountTBR #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

The Forgotten Garden | Kate Morton

LOVED THIS! 💕 The story is wonderfully long. It spans several generations as Cassandra uncovers family secrets and works through her grief to rebuild her life. The engaging story is set partly in an English cottage with fairy tales and of course a hidden garden. 💐 #MountTBR

AWahle I have a copy of that around here somewhere. I‘ll need to find it and move it up in the rotation. 1mo
NatalieR @AWahle 😉👍 I hope you like it! 1mo
