Well my July #Bookspin list is easy. I really need to dig in on #14Books14Weeks and could really do with catching up on #Roll100

Oh my gosh, there is only one week of June left!!! Which means we are only a week away from being HALF WAY THROUGH 2025!!! I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that years begin with “20“ so we can all see how well I'm doing with the passage of time 😂 Anyway, I hope everyone is having a lovely summer so far (or a cozy winter, depending on where you are!). We are in the midst of an intense heat wave, unusual for this early in the ⬇
I‘m bailing out of this one. The premise of the adult granddaughter of Arab immigrants finding her own voice in stand-up comedy sounded great. Unfortunately the comedy isn‘t particularly funny, she‘s got a cringey schoolgirl crush on her boss, and, when trying to learn more about her history, her grandmother gives her a journal to read that is written in third person omniscient. 🤔 Might end up fine but I‘m just not vibing with it. This ending was a reminder that it can also be the beginning of a new story. What a powerful read. It touched on climate change, family, grief, loss, and the grind of moving forward. Dom tries his hardest to give each of his kids what they need to survive on a desolate island. Rowan‘s arrival sparks a change in the family dynamics as time runs out for the seeds they‘re protecting.

This was hand sold to me by a bookseller when I told her I like good historical fiction but am tired of WWII and dual timelines. While this post Revolutionary War story centers around a midwife, it's the story of a family, a town, sexual assault, power, and home. Great characters, a compelling plot, and a beautifully written setting made this book a 5-star read for me. June #Bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
Val is always a solid 4 star read for me.
I love her characters, their relationships and the very realistic growth they show.
Karen and her cold cases are quickly becoming my most favourite. The way Val structure these stories makes it page turners even knowing there's no life to save at the end.
This installment had a very intriguing plot and is set during COVID, so every normal thing had to be done slightly differently.
Andy Weir may be an auto-read for me at this point, and I‘m not sure I can say that about any other scifi author.
This one is a heist in a lunar colony. Jazz is hired to sabotage the smelting company on the moon so a billionaire can take over their contract with the lunar government. Of course things don‘t go as she planned, and a fast paced race to avoid the law, a mafia, and save the day ensue.
Projects Hail Mary is still my AW fave, but 👍👍.
Who is who and what the heck is what? All deception and twists.

I'm calling it... Bailing on House of Leaves. At least for now, probably for good but never say never I guess. I read the intro and 2 chapters and it's good but I can already tell it's not the book for me right now. Horror is just not where my brain is at right now.
That knocks off another past #bookspin, and I'm still counting it for #offmyshelf (for on tbr longer than 5 years) since it's off my tbr.
