Hi Littens ❤️ celebrating my first day of Christmas vacation/maternity leave with a little relaxation and reading. My belly and baby girl are getting bigger and bigger, but I still have around 10 weeks to go. I‘m feeling great, though, and plan on using the time, until she comes, on reading, relaxing and prepping all the baby-related stuff 😅

Hopefully, I‘ll get better at checking in once in a while in the new year 🤞

Happy holidays friends!

DivineDiana What an exciting time for you! I read to my daughter while she was still in the womb. You might consider including some of your favorite children‘s book! Sending lots of love and wising you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 💖 💕🎁 2y

Help needed!

It‘s my birthday in November, and I‘m starting to think of a wishlist, and I‘m lost. 😳 I know I want books (obviously), but I‘ve been so far out of the book world, that I‘ve no idea what‘s good. So if you want to tag some of the best books you‘ve read so far, I would very much appreciate it! It doesn‘t have to be new releases, I‘m up for anything 🙏

Also, thank you all for the reactions to my baby news. I‘m well, and so is baby ☺️

squirrelbrain Only just seen your baby news - I missed it when you posted before. Congrats! Book-wise, I see you have the first Osman book - the second is even better, I think. And just the right kind of book; funny and warm, and just an all-round fun read! 2y

Just checking in to give a little reason why I haven‘t been here lately. But my attention has been on the baby in my belly (and work and staying awake), so reading and Litsy has been on a break. I might pop in once in awhile, but don‘t count on me too much.

#BookReport and #WeeklyForecast. A good reading week, especially the O‘Neill book 🙌

I‘m only a few chapters into The Morbids, but it isn‘t grapping my attention right away, but I hope it picks up. I‘m not sure what‘ll be next, because I won‘t get as much audio time as normal. A colleague is going to be joining me on my commute the next few months, so I need to find out if she‘s an audiobook listener or not 😅

Cinfhen I see 3.5 stars for Lockwood...what didn‘t work for you?!! 3y
Cinfhen Hope your co-worker likes audiobooks 💕💕💕 3y
charl08 Sounds good for the budget (if not necessarily for the audiobook listening!) 3y

Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I enjoyed it, especially the second half, but it didn‘t blow me away. The first half was hard to connect to, and I‘m not sure the audio format was the right choice for me with this book 🤷‍♀️ 3y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen @charl08 she has told me she has a tendency to sleep in cars (when she isn‘t driving 😅), so I might be able to listen while she naps 😄 3y
BarbaraBB I hope you‘ll become engaged in The Morbids! 3y
Cinfhen I agree, first half was hard to connect with but the second half was such a gut 🥊 I think I might have bailed if I was reading print/ because there‘s no way during that first part that I would have followed her thought process in print 3y

Louise O‘Neill can do no wrong in my book, and this was just great! I finished it in the sun, but in my mind I was in the rain on the fictional island of Inisrun off the coast of West Cork with my heart in my throat.

O‘Neill‘s books are always feminist, and this one deals with domestic violence in all its forms (more focus on psychological abuse), and I really liked the flow of the story with the interviews, and shifts in time. Just a great book!

Oryx She's superb, I completely agree 3y

A different, strangely touching book. The last half touched me in a way I hadn‘t expected after listening to the first half.

A book about social media, about family tragedy and the impact of both on the protagonist. Can‘t wait to discuss it in #CampToB 🙌

I love books about therapy, both on a personal and professional level, and this didn‘t disappoint! Dr. Rosen‘s therapeutic style is very different from my own, but I was inspired anyway. Christie Tate‘s quest to heal her trauma, learn intimacy and feel her feelings was beyond interesting to follow, and it almost read like a novel👌

#Pop21 - A book where the main character works at your current job (Dr. Rosen)

Cinfhen I‘ve seen mixed reviews but your review makes me want to pick this up. How does it compare to this NF ( which I LOVED) 3y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen the POV is different, as this is from the patient‘s POV instead of the therapist‘s. Tate isn‘t necessarily likable, but she burrowed into my heart anyway, because I could she a lot of my former patients in her. It didn‘t quite reach the height of MYSTTS, but it got very near, imo. And the audio was great 👍 3y

This pains me to write, but... I really wasn‘t impressed. I had such high hopes for this, but it just didn‘t keep me attention. The pacing felt off, and I almost had the feeling I was listening to an abridged audio, because everything felt rushed. I needed more world building, less action and some characters I could relate to.

A small pick. Lee writes quite beautifully about trauma, mental illness, love, family, queerness and so much more. Her essays pack a punch while listening, but unfortunately, they didn‘t really stick with me for long.

It feels like the days are flying past me, and I keep forgetting to post reviews, #BookReport and #WeeklyForecast. I even forgot to include the next HP books, because my head is filled with other stuff. It is all good, mostly, and I‘m enjoying being in my happy, but scatter-brained zone. 😅

Oh, and I read some good books, too! 👍

Wishing everyone a lovely week ahead ❤️

Today was a great #bookmail day! 🙌 I treated myself to a little book haul in March, and now I‘m only missing two books. I can‘t remember the last time I bought books for myself, so I‘m excited!

emmaturi The Absolutist is such a great book! I also liked A Court of Silver Flames and After the Silence 3y

Pickpick

A small pick from me, because I think it is a case of #ItsMeNotYou between me and Queenie. I was underwhelmed by this book, mostly because it took me quite awhile (for me) to finish it. This made it harder for me to be emotionally invested in Queenie and her experience. I did enjoy the humor of the book, but I felt like it only touched the surface on some of the heavier topics.

#Pop21 - A book whose title starts with Q

Cinfhen It was meh for me too!! Queenie was tough to “embrace” at times but great choice for #pop21 3y
BiblioLitten Queenie grew on me. I almost gave it up but by the end I was rooting for her. But I haven‘t recommended it to anyone. 3y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen @BiblioLitten I couldn‘t even really root for her, but I rooted for her therapist! 😅 the ending and felt too rushed 3y

I‘m continually late with my #BookReport but my #WeeklyForecast is almost always on time 😅

I‘ve been off work since Thursday, so I finally found time to finish Queenie (after family time and practical stuff were done), and I was underwhelmed - review to come. The other books I read this week were great, though!

A friends‘s reading the HP books for the first time, which made me want to do a reread, so that‘s the plan for my next two days off😄

TrishB You‘ll do well if you re-read HP in 2 days 😁 3y
Kalalalatja @TrishB haha! I love the books, but I‘m not that fast 😂 I‘m thinking they‘ll be a continuing project during April 👍 3y

I filled out my first quarter form for #Booked2021 today, but I had to do a post, too. In 3 months I have gotten through half of the prompts by reading all over the place 😅 this is what I get for not planning my reading. I have a feeling the last half of the prompts will take a good while longer to get through, but that is part of the fun 🙌

TrishB I‘m the same 😁 3y

I heard about this book from a Danish podcast, because the debate regarding endocrine disrupting chemicals has been getting more attention in Denmark. And this book was informative! And scary! I want to have children at some point, and this made me both deflated and motivated. It feels like an impossible task to safeguard agains EDCs, but hearing Shanna Swan‘s suggestions made me hopeful about doing what I can.

Yes, yes, yes to everything about this book 🙌

British magicians, witches and sorcerers, fights against racism and sexism, diversity, a little bit of romance, and a lot of intrigue are the foundation of the story, and I‘m here for it!

I can‘t believe it took me this long to read it, but I‘m so glad I did. Now I just need the second book.

I have been with friends all weekend, so I haven‘t read much. Still reading Queenie, and liking it, I‘m just too tired to read print books these days. I have had a good audio week, and I‘m really digging Sorcerer to the Crown!

I‘m off from Thursday to next Monday, so I‘m hoping to get some reading done there, and hopefully my BookDepository haul will arrive soon, so I can read some of the books I ordered 🤞

Cinfhen I bailed on this one, this week 3y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen because of the narration? Or something else? 3y
Cinfhen The narration grew on me but the story was too heavy for my #VacationBrain....I just didn‘t want to go there with him... 3y

This books has a unique, special feeling about it, and it makes me want to find other books like it!

If you aren‘t scared off by the graphic sexual content (it‘s there, but it fits the story), you will be swept away by Jonny and the story of their life, their family and their way of being in the world. Jonny is two spirited, indigenous, and someone I enjoyed getting to know!

#Pop21 - Indigenous author

Cinfhen Beautiful review ❤️I listened to a sample from Audible and I didn‘t love the narrator‘s voice 🙄does it grow on you?? 3y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I didn‘t really think about it. It is narrated by the author, and it worked for me, but it wasn‘t outstanding, either 🤷‍♀️ 3y
Megabooks So glad you enjoyed this too Katja!! @Cinfhen I though the book in a less regional accent wouldn‘t have been as powerful, however I a am huge bailer due to narrator accents so definitely no judgement! 3y

It isn‘t often books make me cry, but on my way to work today, I got teary eyed listening to the ending. Something about Susan‘s struggle to figure out her way through all sorts of challenges just moved me.

You know those books, that you really enjoy while reading, but it fades away as soon as you finish reading? This was such a book, for me. I get why this is being compared to Sally Rooney (but on another note, can we stop with all the Rooney comparisons??), but it didn‘t make me feel like Normal People did. I don‘t mind 20-somethings-existential-crisis-books, but they have to make me feel something to be memorable.

#WomensPrize

This gave me Pachinko-vibes, which is high praise for me. We follow dual time lines about the Japanese occupation of Singapore during WW2 and around the beginning of 2000. We learn about Wang Di‘s experiences in a brutal time and about Kevin‘s quest for knowledge about his family. Wang Di‘s story was stronger imo, and the ending got a bit too neat, but it was a pleasure getting there. 👌

Thanks again @erzascarletbookgasm ❤️

I have been hesitant about picking this up, because I expected it to be high brow and very literary. So when this came up as my #bookspin pick, I felt a bit annoyed. But I shouldn‘t have been so worried, because this was great! In a not so distant future where our world has been ravaged by man‘s greed and polution, a group of people goes to live in the Wilderness State as an experience. It could be a book about survival, but at its core it is a 👇

Kalalalatja Book about a mother-daughter relationship that had my sympathies shifting all the time. Neither Bea nor Agnes where very likable, but I couldn‘t keep myself from rooting for them both.
