Hi Littens ❤️ celebrating my first day of Christmas vacation/maternity leave with a little relaxation and reading. My belly and baby girl are getting bigger and bigger, but I still have around 10 weeks to go. I‘m feeling great, though, and plan on using the time, until she comes, on reading, relaxing and prepping all the baby-related stuff 😅

Hopefully, I‘ll get better at checking in once in a while in the new year 🤞

Happy holidays friends!

DivineDiana What an exciting time for you! I read to my daughter while she was still in the womb. You might consider including some of your favorite children‘s book! Sending lots of love and wising you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 💖 💕🎁 6mo

Help needed!

It‘s my birthday in November, and I‘m starting to think of a wishlist, and I‘m lost. 😳 I know I want books (obviously), but I‘ve been so far out of the book world, that I‘ve no idea what‘s good. So if you want to tag some of the best books you‘ve read so far, I would very much appreciate it! It doesn‘t have to be new releases, I‘m up for anything 🙏

Also, thank you all for the reactions to my baby news. I‘m well, and so is baby ☺️

squirrelbrain Only just seen your baby news - I missed it when you posted before. Congrats! Book-wise, I see you have the first Osman book - the second is even better, I think. And just the right kind of book; funny and warm, and just an all-round fun read! 9mo

Just checking in to give a little reason why I haven‘t been here lately. But my attention has been on the baby in my belly (and work and staying awake), so reading and Litsy has been on a break. I might pop in once in awhile, but don‘t count on me too much.

I‘m feeling well and happy, and can‘t wait to meet this little one in March ❤️

#BookReport and #WeeklyForecast. A good reading week, especially the O‘Neill book 🙌

I‘m only a few chapters into The Morbids, but it isn‘t grapping my attention right away, but I hope it picks up. I‘m not sure what‘ll be next, because I won‘t get as much audio time as normal. A colleague is going to be joining me on my commute the next few months, so I need to find out if she‘s an audiobook listener or not 😅

Cinfhen I see 3.5 stars for Lockwood...what didn‘t work for you?!! 13mo
Cinfhen Hope your co-worker likes audiobooks 💕💕💕 13mo
charl08 Sounds good for the budget (if not necessarily for the audiobook listening!) 13mo
See All 7 Comments
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I enjoyed it, especially the second half, but it didn‘t blow me away. The first half was hard to connect to, and I‘m not sure the audio format was the right choice for me with this book 🤷‍♀️ 13mo
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen @charl08 she has told me she has a tendency to sleep in cars (when she isn‘t driving 😅), so I might be able to listen while she naps 😄 13mo
BarbaraBB I hope you‘ll become engaged in The Morbids! 13mo
Cinfhen I agree, first half was hard to connect with but the second half was such a gut 🥊 I think I might have bailed if I was reading print/ because there‘s no way during that first part that I would have followed her thought process in print 13mo

Louise O‘Neill can do no wrong in my book, and this was just great! I finished it in the sun, but in my mind I was in the rain on the fictional island of Inisrun off the coast of West Cork with my heart in my throat.

O‘Neill‘s books are always feminist, and this one deals with domestic violence in all its forms (more focus on psychological abuse), and I really liked the flow of the story with the interviews, and shifts in time. Just a great book!

Oryx She's superb, I completely agree 13mo
TrishB Loved this too 👍🏻 13mo
youneverarrived She‘s fab. Still need to read this one! 13mo
BarbaraBB I am just listening to a true crime podcast set there. , that is such a coincidence. Also - wonderful review. (edited) 13mo
Kalalalatja @Oryx @TrishB @youneverarrived definitely an auto-buy author for me 🙌 @BarbaraBB that is a coincidence! I had to Google some of the islands, and the pictures where stunning 👌 13mo

A different, strangely touching book. The last half touched me in a way I hadn‘t expected after listening to the first half.

A book about social media, about family tragedy and the impact of both on the protagonist. Can‘t wait to discuss it in #CampToB 🙌

squirrelbrain Very much two different books, I think, but I loved both halves. Glad you enjoyed it too. 13mo
BarbaraBB Great review. I felt the same. So touching unexpectedly 💔 13mo

Plain Bad Heroines | Emily M Danforth

This didn‘t grab me the way I had hoped it would. I found it hard to follow the story, different time lines and characters, and I don‘t if that is because I listened to it or because of the book itself. It might just be me, too. 🤷‍♀️

post image

Louise O‘Neill can do no wrong in my book 🙌 I‘m loving this, even though it is a bit out of my wheel house with its psychological-thriller-vibe.

BarbaraBB I‘m curious, it sounds like my wheelhouse 😉 13mo
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB it has a murder, an unreliable narrator, and controlling men. Set on a remote Irish island, filled with feminism, and a bit of a mystery to keep you turning the pages. I‘m hooked! 🙌 13mo

Not much to report in my #BookReport this week. I‘m still listening to Plain Bad Heroines, and I only miss a few hours, but it isn‘t living up to my expectations.

I got the Lockwood from the Library and hope to get to it this week, and I have Monday and Tuesday off, so I might get to read the O‘Neill 🤞 #WeeklyForecast

Everyone who told me to read this (I‘m looking at you @BarbaraBB ) were so right - it is great! The different screen play format took a bit to get used to, but once I got going it worked! This is the kind of book I would have loved to read in one go, to really disappear into the story and writing.

I finally got my second vaccine dose today! I got my first dose of AstraZeneca in February, and a week later Denmark stopped using vaccines from AstraZeneca. So I have been stuck in vaccine limbo - until now! 🙌

I took an early day, and hope to get a bit farther into this stylistically (is that a word??) weird, but engaging book!

Kalalalatja @Cathythoughts @Anna40 @Bianca my arm is so sore, and I have been really tired and a bit uncomfortable today, but other than that, I‘m not feeling too bad 😅 @marleed it does, I can‘t wait for life to return to some kind of normal! @Tamra I can‘t keep up with all the vaccine information any longer, but it‘s nice if it‘s true! 🤞 @Megabooks me too! And the book is definitely something else 👍 @KarenUK Yay! How are you feeling? 😊 13mo
KarenUK I felt horrible yesterday, like full on flu,but much better today. Just “COVID arm” today! Hope you are ok too! 13mo

A bit late with my #bookreport and #weeklyforecast, but I wanted to finish the last HP, which I did today.

My current read is confusing, but I don‘t know if it is the book or because I have only been able to listen to it sporadically. I‘m hoping it‘ll pick up soon 🤞

I‘m not sure which of my tbr books to start next, but I have a feeling it‘ll be one of the above

Infinite Country: A Novel | Patricia Engel

I keep forgetting to review this book, which says all you need to know about how I feel about it - not memorable. I just can‘t explain why. On paper, it is a good book - great writing, interesting themes of immigration, belonging and family, and mythical elements. I just couldn‘t connect to the story or characters at all 🤷‍♀️

This is a love story to libraries and librarians everywhere, with a true crime element running through it. And she mentions my local library in Aarhus quite a lot at the end, which made me like this book even more! 🙌

#Booked2021 #TitleIncludesLibraryOfLibrarian

Cinfhen I read this awhile back so I don‘t recall that connection. But I do remember loving the book 1y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen it was towards the end of the book, where she discuss the future of libraries. I was so surprised, because I‘m not used to Denmark being represented like this, but it was a pleasant surprise ☺️ 1y

I love books about therapy, both on a personal and professional level, and this didn‘t disappoint! Dr. Rosen‘s therapeutic style is very different from my own, but I was inspired anyway. Christie Tate‘s quest to heal her trauma, learn intimacy and feel her feelings was beyond interesting to follow, and it almost read like a novel👌

#Pop21 - A book where the main character works at your current job (Dr. Rosen)

Cinfhen I‘ve seen mixed reviews but your review makes me want to pick this up. How does it compare to this NF ( which I LOVED) 1y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen the POV is different, as this is from the patient‘s POV instead of the therapist‘s. Tate isn‘t necessarily likable, but she burrowed into my heart anyway, because I could she a lot of my former patients in her. It didn‘t quite reach the height of MYSTTS, but it got very near, imo. And the audio was great 👍 1y
KarenUK I‘ve been on the fence, but You‘ve made me really want to read this! 💕 1y

This was good, but it felt a bit messy, and I got lost in all the court details, people, and the horrifying facts of the story. I‘m shocked by the careless ways of (some) doctors and big pharma companies, but at the same time, I‘m not really surprised...

@squirrelbrain thank you for sending me the travelling books, those fancy Litsy stickers, and that very sweet card! 💕 hope you didn‘t feel too bad after your vaccine 🤞

#LitsyLove #BookMail

squirrelbrain That didn‘t take too long to get there! Felt weirdly exhausted after my vaccine, but nothing horrendous..... thanks for asking! 1y
Kalalalatja @squirrelbrain I felt the same when I got my first dose of AstraZeneca, but now the use of it has been discontinued in Denmark, so I‘m waiting for my second dose of another vaccine. 🤷‍♀️ 1y

This pains me to write, but... I really wasn‘t impressed. I had such high hopes for this, but it just didn‘t keep me attention. The pacing felt off, and I almost had the feeling I was listening to an abridged audio, because everything felt rushed. I needed more world building, less action and some characters I could relate to.

wordslinger42 I read this in college and loved it, but I tried to read it last year and couldn't even finish it. I can't figure out why I enjoyed it so much the first time! 1y
ravenlee It‘s been ages since I read this, but as I recall the series builds more with each book, despite having pretty disparate stories. I think I liked them better as I went along. 1y
TheAromaofBooks Ah no, so sad when a book doesn't go where you want it to!!! 1y

emmaturi The Absolutist is such a great book! I also liked A Court of Silver Flames and After the Silence 1y
LeahBergen I‘ve been meaning to buy After the Silence. 👍 1y
TrishB Good choices 👍🏻 1y

Kalalalatja @LeahBergen I love Louise O‘Neil, so I have high hopes for it! 🤞 @emmaturi @TrishB I went with fave authors and fantasy, as that is all my brain can do 😅 1y
TrishB The Absolutist is one of my fave books and I enjoyed the Louise O‘Neil. 1y

A small pick from me, because I think it is a case of #ItsMeNotYou between me and Queenie. I was underwhelmed by this book, mostly because it took me quite awhile (for me) to finish it. This made it harder for me to be emotionally invested in Queenie and her experience. I did enjoy the humor of the book, but I felt like it only touched the surface on some of the heavier topics.

#Pop21 - A book whose title starts with Q

Cinfhen It was meh for me too!! Queenie was tough to “embrace” at times but great choice for #pop21 1y
BiblioLitten Queenie grew on me. I almost gave it up but by the end I was rooting for her. But I haven‘t recommended it to anyone. 1y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen @BiblioLitten I couldn‘t even really root for her, but I rooted for her therapist! 😅 the ending and felt too rushed 1y

I‘m continually late with my #BookReport but my #WeeklyForecast is almost always on time 😅

I‘ve been off work since Thursday, so I finally found time to finish Queenie (after family time and practical stuff were done), and I was underwhelmed - review to come. The other books I read this week were great, though!

A friends‘s reading the HP books for the first time, which made me want to do a reread, so that‘s the plan for my next two days off😄

TrishB You‘ll do well if you re-read HP in 2 days 😁 1y
Kalalalatja @TrishB haha! I love the books, but I‘m not that fast 😂 I‘m thinking they‘ll be a continuing project during April 👍 1y
charl08 Boys and Sex sounds like a tough one. Look forward to hearing more. 1y
Megabooks Boys & Sex is really interesting. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. 1y
Cinfhen Enjoy your days off!!! 1y

I filled out my first quarter form for #Booked2021 today, but I had to do a post, too. In 3 months I have gotten through half of the prompts by reading all over the place 😅 this is what I get for not planning my reading. I have a feeling the last half of the prompts will take a good while longer to get through, but that is part of the fun 🙌

TrishB I‘m the same 😁 1y
Cinfhen Well done!!! Woohoo!!!!! 1y
BarbaraBB So many good ones 🤍 1y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Terrific!! Confirming we‘ve got your form also! 🥳🥳 (edited) 1y

I heard about this book from a Danish podcast, because the debate regarding endocrine disrupting chemicals has been getting more attention in Denmark. And this book was informative! And scary! I want to have children at some point, and this made me both deflated and motivated. It feels like an impossible task to safeguard agains EDCs, but hearing Shanna Swan‘s suggestions made me hopeful about doing what I can.

#Booked2021 #NFScienceByWoman

Kalalalatja Edit: I don‘t know why Litsy puts Stacey Colino as main author, it is authored by Shanna Swan 1y
WorldsOkayestStepMom I don't want more children (I have 2 stepkids, hence my handle), but books like this are fascinating to me! 1y
Reggie I‘ve been seeing articles like this pop up in my news feed lately saying even as close as 2050 we could see way less human beings. 1y

I‘m ready for April‘s #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin numbers, and I have a feeling I have some good books to choose from 🙌

Moray_Reads Some great bold on this list, especially 6, 7, 12 ,13, 14 1y
Lizpixie I‘ve read or own 10 out of 20! Great reading minds and all that🙌 1y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 1y
Kalalalatja @Moray_Reads I tried Plain Bad Heroines last year, but couldn‘t get into it because of timing, but I‘m so ready to give it a try again! @Lizpixie definitely! I have a feeling April is going to be a great reading month 🙌 1y

Yes, yes, yes to everything about this book 🙌

British magicians, witches and sorcerers, fights against racism and sexism, diversity, a little bit of romance, and a lot of intrigue are the foundation of the story, and I‘m here for it!

I can‘t believe it took me this long to read it, but I‘m so glad I did. Now I just need the second book.

AllisonM89 Oooo! This is my next read! 1y
Centique This was such a fun read. And the second one is great too! Hope you enjoy it 💕 1y

I have been with friends all weekend, so I haven‘t read much. Still reading Queenie, and liking it, I‘m just too tired to read print books these days. I have had a good audio week, and I‘m really digging Sorcerer to the Crown!

I‘m off from Thursday to next Monday, so I‘m hoping to get some reading done there, and hopefully my BookDepository haul will arrive soon, so I can read some of the books I ordered 🤞

Cinfhen I bailed on this one, this week 1y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen because of the narration? Or something else? 1y
Cinfhen The narration grew on me but the story was too heavy for my #VacationBrain....I just didn‘t want to go there with him... 1y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I get that, it is heavy! Are you enjoying being back in the States with your family? ☺️ 1y
Cinfhen Yes!!! But I‘m SO DISTRACTED @Kalalalatja I just can‘t focus on anything or anyone 1y

This books has a unique, special feeling about it, and it makes me want to find other books like it!

If you aren‘t scared off by the graphic sexual content (it‘s there, but it fits the story), you will be swept away by Jonny and the story of their life, their family and their way of being in the world. Jonny is two spirited, indigenous, and someone I enjoyed getting to know!

#Pop21 - Indigenous author

Cinfhen Beautiful review ❤️I listened to a sample from Audible and I didn‘t love the narrator‘s voice 🙄does it grow on you?? 1y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I didn‘t really think about it. It is narrated by the author, and it worked for me, but it wasn‘t outstanding, either 🤷‍♀️ 1y
Megabooks So glad you enjoyed this too Katja!! @Cinfhen I though the book in a less regional accent wouldn‘t have been as powerful, however I a am huge bailer due to narrator accents so definitely no judgement! 1y
Cinfhen If I can #BorrowNotBuy I‘ll probably manage with the author‘s voice but im not ready to own it @Megabooks 1y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yeah, I was really lucky my library had it. Perhaps it‘ll come to hoopla or scribd. 🤞🏻 1y

A tentative pick, because it is good, but not great, imo. It got a bit messy for me with all the shifting character perspective and time jumps. I don‘t know if it would have worked better in print, but I was often confused listening it. I‘m glad I read it, but I wish I enjoyed it more 🤷‍♀️

#ToB21 #Pop21 - A book about forgetting

BarbaraBB Great use of this prompt 1y
Megabooks This was a mild pick for me too. 1y
4thhouseontheleft I felt similarly! 1y

TrishB Same 👍🏻 1y
Cinfhen I liked it on audio, but honestly I only vaguely remember any details other than the MAJOR plot of passing 1y
BarbaraBB I keep coming back to it when people read this book: read Passing by Nella Larsen, it is so much better! 1y
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB thanks, I‘ll look out for it! @Megabooks @4thhouseontheleft @TrishB @Cinfhen glad I‘m not alone. Bennett seems overhyped, and I‘m not rushing to read The Mothers 1y
BarbaraBB I did enjoy The Mothers a lot 😀 1y
Cinfhen Funny @BarbaraBB I did not care for this one/ I thought it was OVER HYPED 1y

Another week gone, another week of reading (and work) ahead! 📚

#BookReport #WeeklyForecast

TheKidUpstairs You've got some great reading happening and coming up! Your current reads and TBR are all books I really liked/loved. 1y
BarbaraBB Great reading week! 1y

Kalalalatja @TheKidUpstairs that is good to know! I‘m liking Queenie so far, but feeling meh about The Vanishing Half with only a few hours to go. @sb3626 it is good so far, but I‘m only 80 pages in. Hopefully I‘ll get to read a bit during the week 🤞 1y
Cinfhen Hmmmmm, only 3 stars for 1y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen it started as 4, but I forgot about it so quickly. It is probably 3,5, but I forgot the ✨ 1y

It isn‘t often books make me cry, but on my way to work today, I got teary eyed listening to the ending. Something about Susan‘s struggle to figure out her way through all sorts of challenges just moved me.

From a psychologist perspective I couldn‘t help wondering if Susan‘s on the autism spectrum. I had to stop myself from diagnosing, and just focus on enjoying myself 🌵

#Pop21 - definitely seen it on @Cinfhen (virtual/audio) bookshelf

BarbaraBB Wonderful review Katja 💚 1y
Cinfhen Yup!!!! YOU HAVE!!! I thought this was brilliant- better than 1y
Megabooks Great review! 1y

You know those books, that you really enjoy while reading, but it fades away as soon as you finish reading? This was such a book, for me. I get why this is being compared to Sally Rooney (but on another note, can we stop with all the Rooney comparisons??), but it didn‘t make me feel like Normal People did. I don‘t mind 20-somethings-existential-crisis-books, but they have to make me feel something to be memorable.

ephemeralwaltz Exactly, not memorable at all, nothing like Rooney for me. 1y
BarbaraBB Rooney is for contemporary literature what Flynn is for thrillers. Super annoying indeed! 1y
Megabooks Fantastic review! I often feel that way about books. 1y

Yeah, that didn‘t last long. I don‘t really care enough to write a lot. I‘m just mad this is the play-in that got picked for #tob21. Seriously, The Resisters was so much better!

vivastory I agree. I honestly didn't even have an opinion on this until the final 15-20 pages 1y
Kalalalatja @vivastory where the last pages worth it?? 1y
vivastory No. 😂 I'm a firm believer that an ending doesn't make or break a book. I did LOVE the ending, but it wasn't enough to redeem an overall frustrating experience. 1y

Better late than never with my #BookReport and #WeeklyForecast.

How We Disappeared were great, but other than that my week was kind of meh. So far, we aren‘t off to a good start with Red Pill, either. My reading mood is shifting quite a lot, so other than Queenie, I don‘t have many plans for the week ahead 📚

Cinfhen Bunny was straight up weird but the book discussion was really revealing / I think you‘re gonna like 1y

Nope. This was too weird, and I felt like it was trying to much. I should have bailed, considering it took me 2,5 weekends to get through it, but something about it kept me reading.

This gave me Pachinko-vibes, which is high praise for me. We follow dual time lines about the Japanese occupation of Singapore during WW2 and around the beginning of 2000. We learn about Wang Di‘s experiences in a brutal time and about Kevin‘s quest for knowledge about his family. Wang Di‘s story was stronger imo, and the ending got a bit too neat, but it was a pleasure getting there. 👌

Thanks again @erzascarletbookgasm ❤️

Amiable I too loved “Pachinko,“ so I will definitely be picking this one up. Thanks! 1y

squirrelbrain Oooh, you‘re all so quick - was just about to post this! 1y
Kalalalatja @LeeRHarry I hadn‘t even begun to have any expectations, I‘m mostly excited because a lot of the books are on my tbr already, and the ones I have read from it, have been great, so I‘m hopeful the rest will be, too 😊 1y

BarbaraBB This is a great list. I am happy I‘ve read a lot of them already. 1y
Lindy I‘ve read 7 of these and bailed on 2, but maybe I should give those 2 another try? 1y
batsy I'm thinking of attempting this list, or as many as I can from this list :) @Lindy Which two did you bail on? 1y
Lindy @batsy Luster and Transcendent Kingdom. 🤷‍♀️ 1y
batsy @Lindy Ooh, interesting! I'm keen to read both books; let's see how it goes 🤞🏽 1y
mklong @batsy I‘m going to attempt the whole list this year too. I mean, what else am I doing these days? 1y
Kalalalatja @batsy @mklong I want to give it a go at the whole list, but I can‘t find any of the books I haven‘t read on my audio apps 😅 fingers crossed they will appear soon 🤞 1y

I‘m pretty sure this is a case of “it‘s me, not you”. I just couldn‘t keep my attention to the poems, and I‘m not sure audio is the right media for me to read poetry.

Cinfhen Yeah, I listened to a different collection and it just didn‘t move me at all. A few poems were powerful but nothing memorable. 1y

#BookReport #WeeklyForecast

The New Wilderness blew me away, and has kept me from my other books. I‘m not really feeling either the Atwood or Bunny (it is so weird!?!?), but I‘m so far in both I‘ll keep going. How We Disappeared is my #DoubleSpin, and it was just the push I needed to finally get to my gift from @erzascarletbookgasm ❤️ I‘m going with a print/audio combo since audio is how I get through most books these days.

squirrelbrain Bunny is *totally* weird - I ended up not really liking it. 1y
Cinfhen Bunny was SO STRANGE!!!!! It‘s clever, once you peel back ALL THE LAYERS but not sure it was worth it. 1y
Megabooks Bunny is crazy, but I loved it!! 1y

I have been hesitant about picking this up, because I expected it to be high brow and very literary. So when this came up as my #bookspin pick, I felt a bit annoyed. But I shouldn‘t have been so worried, because this was great! In a not so distant future where our world has been ravaged by man‘s greed and polution, a group of people goes to live in the Wilderness State as an experience. It could be a book about survival, but at its core it is a 👇

Kalalalatja Book about a mother-daughter relationship that had my sympathies shifting all the time. Neither Bea nor Agnes where very likable, but I couldn‘t keep myself from rooting for them both. I finished it a few days ago, and I can feel this is a book that will stay with me 👍 #Pop21 - A book set mostly or entirely outdoors 1y
